Ugh… It’s back to school already

Yep. It’s that time of year again. And it’s gonna be a great one! You’ve got the right clothes. You’ve got the right books. You might even already have the right book bag. But if I remember anything from my school days, I hated carrying my books in the bulky backpack and squeezing myself (and them) into a tiny space with an even smaller seat. My locker or car wasn’t always close to my next class, so it was impossible to switch out books after every class.

Tote up

The trick I used was keeping a tote bag in my locker. Every morning, I would unload my bulky backpack and exchange it for the tote. I’d fill up the tote with the books and supplies I needed until I could make it back to my locker. My back and classmates appreciated it. It compacted my life in a stylish tote that still fit my identity.

HELLO SUNDAY-LARGE TOTE-JACQUARD AND STRIPES

HelloSunday has totes and wallets that can fit anybody’s personality. I recently got a boho chic tote from them. It’s fun and durable with enough space for me to carry books, a laptop or my work supplies. But it’s stylish enough for me to use as an everyday bag, consolidating a work bag and pocketbook into one.

Switch up

Whether it’s school or work, we love to feel stylish. We all have our own big personality and we want to share that through what we wear. But health comes in to play even in the world of fashion. Many people end up with lifelong issues from carrying a bag that is too bulky or heavy. For example, women tend to carry the same purse on the same arm or shoulder every day. They fill up the bag with more and more, which causes more weight. Then, the body compensates for the weight by shifting, which can result in knots in the neck or lower back pain. It’s best to switch up your bags every so often, so your body doesn’t become accustomed to being off balance on an everyday. Switching bags can make you carry a lighter load or even carry your load in a different way. Plus, it allows one to have more fashionable bags. I don’t see a downside.

I switch up handbags for wristlets depending on where I’m going. And for me, the higher the heels, the smaller the bag.  It’s all about convenience.

Our bodies want us to look good, but they also want to feel good. Be kind to your body now, and you’ll reap the rewards later in life.

Understanding the Causes and Treatment of Problem Thyroid Goiters

Understanding the Causes and Treatment of Problem Thyroid Goiters

Although most thyroid goiters are harmless, often thyroid goiters can be caused by autoimmune diseases tied to hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism. Treating the root causes can help minimize or even reverse the progression of the goiter.

Goiter is one of the most commonly encountered types of thyroid conditions. This refers to the enlarging of the thyroid gland that has roots in a broad array of different causes, among them autoimmune diseases. Although usually seen as harmless, goiters are sometimes indicative of a more serious condition or may lead to various other symptoms, which may require interventions as determined by a physician.

Addressing extreme forms of goiter is one of many disciplines under thyroid management. Patients in Provo can rely on a trusted healthcare provider to deliver accurate diagnoses and treatment programs to manage extreme goiter and a host of other thyroid conditions.

All About Goiter

Goiters refer to a larger-than-usual thyroid gland, which has many different causes. Most instances of goiter are harmless, having no associated inflammations, and do not cause any lasting impediment to the function of the thyroid gland. Often, these so-called simple goiters do not have a clear cause and can be left alone with little to no treatment as determined by the attending physician.

Most minor goiters are merely felt rather than seen, although a sufficiently enlarged thyroid gland is typically visible when one turns around while looking in a mirror. The only real symptom experienced by most people with benign goiters is a minor difficulty in swallowing. Problem goiters, however, do exist. These often involve the abnormal swelling of the thyroid gland that is caused by a motley group of different diseases.

Worldwide, the most common cause of goiter is iodine deficiency, although this is rare in the United States and the rest of the developed world due to the abundance of iodine in the water and many types of food. The second most common cause is autoimmune diseases, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, and Graves’ disease. Doctors usually identify problem goiters is usually done through their associated symptoms and careful testing.

Hypothyroidism vs. Hyperthyroidism

Hashimoto’s thyroiditis is an autoimmune disease where the body’s immune system attacks the cells of the thyroid glands. This causes hypothyroidism, a reduction in the thyroid gland’s ability to produce hormones, causing a shortage that can negatively affect the body’s thermoregulation and ability to consume and process energy.

Grave’s disease, meanwhile, is one of the most common causes hyperthyroidism, a condition that leads the thyroid glands to overproduce hormones, causing the body’s metabolism to speed up considerably.  Also an autoimmune condition, Grave’s disease involves the overproduction of antibodies, which spur the thyroid glands to produce more hormones in response.

Treating Problem Goiters

Problematic thyroid goiters are often managed alongside the conditions that caused them. Goiters stemming from Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, for instance, are often treated through hormone replacement therapy, which supplements the thyroid gland’s production of hormones. This helps arrest the enlargement of the goiter but cannot shrink it.

Goiters caused by Grave’s disease, on the other hand, are treated with antithyroid medications, beta-blockers, and radioactive iodine. Radioactive iodine is one treatment that can reduce the goiter’s size.

In extreme cases, surgery may be deemed necessary. Surgery is pursued as a last resort and is often only done when the body’s production of thyroid hormones has already reached baseline levels.

Everything You Need For A DIY Kids’ Party

Everything You Need For A DIY Kids’ Party

Image by Adina Voicu from Pixabay

So you’ve got a kid’s party coming up, there’s loads to do and these days it can cost a fortune, but it doesn’t have to. There are plenty of ways you can give your child the best party ever, give them everything they could wish for without spending a ridiculous amount of money. All it takes is a little bit of creativity, planning and preparation.

Invitations

These days, who needs to buy or make invitations. Send your invitations digitally to the parents; then there’s no chance of anyone missing it and finding it two weeks later in the bottom of their child’s bag, it’s free, you can save on paper and also send as many as you like.

Avoid Party Shops

Specialist party shops may be full of exciting products and ideas, but you will pay a huge markup when you could get the same thing at the supermarket, the pound shop or online for a lot cheaper.

Get Creative

When it comes to decorations, then you could get the kids to make them as part of the party and entertainment. Or if you want to get everything set up beforehand, then you can make everything from bunting to plates and cups. Buy plain paper cups and plates, and you can jazz them up yourself. Search for ‘blank’ or ‘DIY’ on party-supply on sites to see what comes up. You can then decorate it in the theme of the party or personal for the birthday child. If you have a vinyl cutting machine, then you can make cool stickers or fonts to stick onto party cups which could be personalised for each child. You can also use it to create custom labels and stickers. Check out this guide for more information on the machines vinylcuttingmachineguide.com.

Use Your Contacts

Don’t fork out for expensive entertainment which might not even be very good when you could either do it yourself or utilise people you know. Do you know anyone who can do magic tricks? Sing? Dance? Or just a couple of family friends to dress up as princesses and help the kids do some activities? There will always be cheaper versions of everything, and the kids won’t know the difference, nor will they care. So don’t go wasting money on things you don’t need to.

Think Outside The Box

When kids are still little, you don’t necessarily need to have a traditional birthday party as such. Why not just meet at a park with a play area and everyone brings a picnic? It’s easy and costs you nothing other than your picnic.

Make The Cake

Even if you’re not that good at cake decorating or baking, if you can’t do the whole thing then you could buy a plain cake and decorate it or the other way around, make the cake and get someone else to decorate it. There are also some fab no-bake cakes that you can put together which look super impressive but they’re straightforward to do.

Remember Games Don’t Cost A Thing

Many kids are easily pleased, and it’s the simple thing that they love the most. You could spray paint some rocks and do a  treasure hunt for “gold†that the kids can then take home as favours. Then another couple of classic games such as Keep-Up-the-Balloon, Musical Chairs, Hot Potato, Duck, Duck, Goose or Simon Says, and you’ll have everyone entertained and happy for hours.

Age Is Just A Number – Feeling Healthier Beyond Your Years

Age Is Just A Number – Feeling Healthier Beyond Your Years

Say it with us – there is absolutely no reason as to why age should determine how limited you feel. Up until the point where your body might not play ball as it used to (this usually happens much later than people imagine and could include conditions like arthritis, which you can use a lidocaine roll on to help reduce the pain), you shouldn’t feel as though your age is some kind of wet blanket, slowly falling on your shoulders to lower your quality of life. It is more than possible to have an excellent quality of life no matter your age – and to feel much younger than your age might imply.

However, it might take just a little more effort into taking care of ourselves to experience this. Is that a problem? Not at all. This effort helps your life become much more enjoyable in the first place – so it is a win/win. Many of us know that the key to a fulfilled lifestyle is living healthily – but what does that mean in practical terms with the necessary scope of age to consider? Let us consider that below:

Lessen The Carbs

Carbohydrates are, of course, a natural part of any staple diet unless someone wishes to follow a ketogenic-based lifestyle. However, lessening your carbs can be a wonderful approach. When you eat carbs, you gain a great deal of glucose, and that spikes your insulin. For some, especially those who might be a little more mature, this can lead them to feel ‘sleepy’ as they might be quite familiar with it. If you’re hoping to feel active and attentive during the day, then lessening the carbs and eating a protein-rich, healthy, fat-rich, and vegetable-rich diet could be worthwhile. On top of that, complex carbs can provide much more prolonged sustenance, allowing you to keep a close watch on your calories. It’s in this manner that you can keep a healthy weight.

Consider Hormone Therapy

Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy is becoming all the rage lately, but this is much more than just a passing trend. When having your hormones replaced, what you are doing is giving your body the vital sustenance it needs for growth. Let us consider how this works in relation to a natural exercise, like a full-body squat under load. When squatting, the body releases HGH, which signifies that your body is in a growth stage. As we age, these elements can become less and less effective at firing, but under a training load, or replacement, your body continually understands that it is in a growth situation, meaning that you continually feel youthful. Moreover, the more you commit to an exercise like this, the better your body produces said hormones. This could help you gain that youthful vigour you might have been missing thus far.

Open Your Heart To  Experience

The moment you are ‘old’ is the moment you close your heart to new things. That is it. Until then, you are eternally young, no matter what your body might suggest. Keep traveling, keep being interested, keep being entertained, and keep learning. The more you do this, the more you can squeeze out of this life.

With this advice, you are certain to understand that age is always just a number.

Five Tips When Driving To Avoid Car Damage

Five Tips When Driving To Avoid Car Damage

Being able to drive is a luxury that many of us have, and it certainly does make living a little easier, especially if we rely on commuting to and from work or needing a car to go on holiday or to see family. However, not everyone is as safe and careful when driving when they should be. Cars are expensive to purchase and to maintain or fix, so it’s worth considering these five tips when driving to avoid car damage.

Know Your Speed Limits

When it comes to your speed, it’s good to always be aware of the speed limits that are on the road. You may be fairly confident with regular routes, but it’s worth doing a bit of road research when traveling somewhere new. Check out the route you are taking beforehand and what the specific speed limits are for that road.

Stay A Safe Distance Behind And In Front Of Cars

A lot of accidents are often caused by being too close to other cars and so when sudden brakes or turns happen that you don’t expect, the response time can often be too late. As a rule of thumb, ensure that you can still see the license plate of the car in front of you. If someone is driving too close to you from behind, then give way to ensure that they aren’t going to cause you any damage as a result of driving too close.

Store Your Car Under Shelter

Whether it’s a used Vauxhall Adam or a brand new Land Rover, you should always try to store your car under shelter. That goes for when you’re at home, i.e. a garage or parking in a public space. Public parking may be a little more difficult, but if there are any free spots that have shelter above it, then it’s worth choosing that as a place to park, rather than somewhere that’s out in the open. From a security viewpoint, it’s also beneficial to park within eyesight of a CCTV camera.

Be Aware Of Those Around You

As mentioned above, being wary of drivers is key. Not everyone is going to be as careful as a driver as you are, and accidents do happen. It is important, therefore, to be aware of everything going on around you. Keep an eye on your wing mirror and rear-view mirror at all times to make sure that you are doing everything you can to maintain a safe distance from other drivers. Look out for pedestrians who often have a bad habit of running across without the go-ahead of the traffic lights.

Take Away Any Distractions

And lastly, distractions within the car are a big no-no. Using your phone or getting distracted in other ways like changing the music station or having passengers in the car are all worth avoiding.

Hopefully, with these tips, you can keep the risk of accidents or car damage to a minimum. Accidents do happen, but hopefully, most can be avoided with these precautions.
