Top Tips For Men’s Skin Care This Winter

Top Tips For Men’s Skin Care This Winter

We are now in the autumn and before we know it, winter will be upon us and with that is cold, harsh weather. This can play havoc with our skin, leaving us with dry and often sore skin.

Men, in particular, tend to neglect their skin and leave it to the elements. They are more likely to be working outside, they are more likely to be shaving their faces and much less likely to be using any skincare products. Put all these things together and you have the perfect recipe for sad winter skin.

Here, we look at some of the things that you can do to help protect your skin this winter so you can have skin that feels smooth, soft and perfectly touchable.

Clean your shaving tools

No matter how good your cleansing and skincare routine is, if your tools aren’t clean, your face won’t be either. For example, if you are using a beard trimmer or a razor and do not clean them in between uses, you are transferring all of the dead skin cells, oil, and grime back onto your skin. Not only is this pretty gross, but it is a cesspool of bacteria which can even cause infections of the skin.

Make sure you clean your shaving tools in between use. And remember, if trimmers begin to show signs of rust or damage, get rid of them and buy new ones straight away to avoid injuring your skin.

Moisturize

If you are going to do one thing for your skin, whatever time of the year it is, make sure you moisturize it. Moisturizing is not just for women – it is for anyone with skin! It is especially important to use a moisturizer along with other skincare products from letsdisco.co in the winter to replace all the natural oils and moisture lost from your skin. Opt for something rich and luxurious and slather it on every morning and every evening after cleansing.

Invest in a humidifier

Skin is our largest organ and reacts to our environment. In the winter, when we have our central heating and car heating cranked up to full blast, hot, dry air is pumped around the space that you are in. This plays havoc with your skin, causing it to feel dry, itchy and flaky. Combat that by increasing the amount of moisture in the air. The best way of doing that is to put a humidifier in the room and get yourself a good supply of distilled water from somewhere like Golyath so that the air that is pumped into the room is as pure as possible.

Quality humidifers disperse moisture into the air that will hydrate you and the air around you. This will not only benefit your skin but your hair, eyes, and overall health.

Keep it covered

The two main causes of skin dryness in winter is cold and dry air. If you can minimize your skin’s exposure to harsh winter winds and cold, dry air, you can stop the natural oils of your skin from being stripped away. Where possible, wear gloves to protect your hands and use your scarf or collar on your jacket to cover your nose and lips. The less contact with the cold air and your skin, the better.

Keep hydrated and eat well

This is not really a winter skincare tip, but more of an all-year-round skincare tip. One of the best things that you can do for your skin, and general health, is to drink plenty of water and eat a healthy, balanced diet. When it comes to winter, we tend to eat lots of rich, heavy comfort foods and, when it comes to Christmas, drink lots of alcohol. This will leave your skin looking and feeling dull, lifeless and feel pretty horrible to touch. Balance out the beers with plenty of water and have a side of veggies with that pizza. It might be boring, but your skin will thank you for it.

Slough it off

This is a part of the skincare routine that many people – men and women – omit, but a gentle exfoliator or scrub will clear the skin of dead cells that cling to the face, clog up your pores causing acne and blackheads and make your skin look dull and patchy. It is particularly important as you get older – at the age of 25 or so, the rate that your skin sloughs off dead cells naturally slows down. Avoid the sandpaper though; something light and gentle is the way forward.

Taking care of your skin is not just something for women. Taking care of your skin helps your skin feel and look great, whatever the weather and whatever your age.

How to Grow and Keep a Great Looking Beard

How to Grow and Keep a Great Looking Beard

So, you’re a guy that’s decided to grow a beard? You’ll be the envy of all of the guys that secretly wish that they could sport a handsome beard and you’ll no doubt turn a few heads from those that admire beards on guys.

But where do you start when it comes to growing a beard? How do you make sure that your beard looks dapper and not a complete mess?

Here are some beard care tips for the guys out there that want to grow their mane. Read on for more.

Know Which Beard Shape Will Suit Your Face

When it comes to beard gains, you need to know which style of beard is going to best suit your face.

Generally, you should let the beard soften any extremities in your features and pull everything closer to the centre of your face. For instance, if you have a long face, you wouldn’t want a beard that is long, and that will accentuate this fact. You’ll want a beard that widens your face so plan to grow a beard that has wider sides and is kept short at the chin. If you have a square face, think about softening up your jaw and having a larger patch of hair under your chin.

A Good Beard Takes Time

When it comes to growing a great beard, it will take time. You shouldn’t expect to see your beard appearing within days or even weeks. A good beard could take months or even longer to cultivate.

Be patient with your beard. It will grow eventually.

Shave the Perimeter

There is a difference between a beard that is left to grow wild and a well-kept beard, and that is that the perimeter is always kept neat and tidy on a well-kept beard.

This means shaving your cheeks and your neckline to keep your beard in check.

Know How and When To Trim Your Beard

If you want a great looking beard, you need to know when and how you should trim your beard. Trim too early or too short, and you’ll be left with a weak-looking beard.

Invest in a good quality trimmer. If you are not confident that you’ll do a good job, find a barber that is experienced at trimming beards. A good rule of thumb when looking for a barber for your beard is to see if they have a beard themselves. They will understand the plight of perfecting the perfect mane.

Wash Your Beard Often

Just like the hairs on your head, you need to wash your beard often. Think about getting a good beard wash that will not only clean your beard but the skin underneath it too. Dead skin under your beard hairs can be a problem, so you may want to clean your beard with an antidandruff shampoo.

Then, once you have washed your beard, gently pat it dry. Never use a hairdryer or aggressively towel dry it as this could cause damage to your hairs.

Body Art for Men: Trends for 2020

Body modification and body art is nothing new; men and women alike have been adorning themselves with piercings, tattoos, and other forms of body expression for years now. Trends come and go, though, while a few old classics have managed to stand the test of time.

Below, we’ve compiled a list of the current most popular trends and men’s styles in body modification and art for both piercings and tattoos in 2020. Do you see yours on the list?

Piercings

Piercings will never go out of style. With so many different types to choose from, and so many different varieties of body jewelry, you’ll never get bored with your piercings.

Back in the late 1990s, when piercing hit a fever pitch, it was all about the tongue ring and the eyebrow ring. Those are still around, but they’ve fallen a little out of trend, in favor of other, newer piercing styles. While not new, labret piercings (in the chin), philtrum piercings (just under the nose/top lip), and septum piercings (under the nose as opposed to the side/nostril) are all hugely popular at the moment, and for good reason: all of them look really cool. All three styles are relatively easy to care for and don’t pose a lot of risk for infection as long as you take care of them.

Classic piercing locations that have stood the test of time are the lip piercing, the side nose ring, nipple piercings and the ever-traditional ear piercing (both earlobe and helix, which is higher up on the ear). All of these classic styles look great on any guy (or gal), and are easy to care for, with a huge variety of jewelry options available.

Then there are some of the more avant-garde piercing styles, such as corset piercing and dimple piercing.

If you’re interested in making an appointment for men ear piercing, or any other type of body piercing, contact your local piercer or body studio to make an appointment. Many tattoo shops also do piercings.

Tattoos

Tattoos are also nothing new, but the technology that tattoo artists are using is always changing and just gets cooler and cooler. In many ways, simple, effective tools such as the best tattoo stencil paper can empower people to learn this excellent craft and understand body art at a deeper level. These days, tattoos are more than just your usual blocky design or quick-to-fade ink. Tattoos can be done in watercolor, in white ink or invisible ink, 3D style tattoos, and so much more.

In recent years, popular trends have waned from the usual blocky lettering or tribal tattoos of the past, with body art enthusiasts instead opting for lifelike portraits of loved ones, celebrities, and even their own pets. These ultra-lifelike portraits are so detailed that you’d never guess they could be done on flesh, but they can.

Many enterprising tattoo studios are also starting to offer cover-up tattoos at lower or discounted costs for victims of abuse who may have scars, which is a really empathetic and creative way to give back to the community. And you’d be surprised at how amazing these tattoos look!

Tattoos used to have such a stigma attached but these days, almost everyone has at least one. So what are you waiting for?

Whether you’re interested in a piercing, a tattoo, or both, 2020 is a great time to take advantage of a hot new trend and get some body art that looks totally awesome.

5 Things to Consider When Buying a Motorcycle

5 Things to Consider When Buying a Motorcycle

Millions of people around the world buy a motorcycle every year. An exciting vehicle to own as it’s so exhilarating to drive, so many adventures can be had from purchasing it. However, before you take the leap and buy one of your own, there are certain things that you’ll want to consider.

So to help guide you, here are 5 things that you have to keep in mind:

  1. Your Budget

One of the first things that you’ll want to think about is how much you want to realistically spend on the motorcycle. They don’t come cheaply and you might want to save ahead of time before setting your heart on your dream one. Also, you’ll have to think about how much the maintenance will cost, fuel, routine MOTs and the safety gear you’ll need to wear when driving it.

  1. New or Used?

Another thing that you’ll want to consider is whether you want to buy a motorcycle new or used. This will depend on several factors, including your personal preferences and what your budget is. However, there are also practicalities of each option.

For example, a new bike will come with a warranty – which will ensure that if anything happens to it in the first year or so of owning it, you’ll be covered. However, the newer the bike, the more expensive the initial outlay. Which is why it’s a good idea to compare and contrast the two options first, before settling on the one that you want.

  1. The Style

It’s important to know that motorcycles come in different styles. From touring motorcycles that are ideal for long-distance driving to sport bikes designed for racing to achieve maximum speed. Before deciding on one style, it’s therefore worth looking at the variety and what they have to offer.

  1. The Engine Size

This is a very important factor to take note of. The engine size will vary hugely depending on the type of bike you’re looking at – from 50cc for a moped to 125cc and more. This means that the speed and fuel economy will be affected – two factors that will undeniably impact your purchasing decision.

  1. Motorcycle Insurance

As part of your purchasing journey, you’ll also want to think about what type of motorcycle insurance you purchase. Not only in terms of its inclusions (liability coverage is frequently the number one choice because of what it includes) but how much it costs. It’s also a legality in many states.

Helping to protect you in case of property damage or from a typical motorcycle accident victims sustain, it gives you the peace of mind you need when on the road. Even if you’re striving to be a safer driver, this is a must-have from the get-go.

Final thoughts

So, there you go! Those are the top 5 things you’ll want to consider when buying a motorcycle. As long as you think about the above and factor them into your final decision, you’ll feel more prepared for the process.
