4 Simple Changes You Can Make To Your Home To Clear Your Mind

4 Simple Changes You Can Make To Your Home To Clear Your Mind

A lot of us struggle to switch off when we get home from work. We lie in bed wide awake and can’t shut off. You might be surprised to know that your house could be the reason you can’t clear your mind. Here are a few simple changes you can make to your home to help you release some stress.

Add some scented candles

You will be surprised to know that scented candles can help clear your mind. In particular, scents such as lavender can help reduce anxious feelings and balance your moods! And lemon can make you feel calm. Therefore, you need to add some lovely scented candles around your house. Put them in the rooms you spend the most time in, such as the bedroom and living room. And as well as helping you feel calm, they are great to add some character to your property!

Get rid of all that clutter

There has been a lot of research which has found that clutter can cloud your mind. It can stop you from being able to focus on anything. And it can stop you from being able to get to sleep quickly at night. Therefore, the best way to clear your mind is to get rid of that clutter. This weekend, dedicate a day to cleaning your home. Get rid of all those unnecessary items that are making you feel stressed. If you have a lot of items to get rid of, you might want to look into skip bin hire. That way, all the mess can be removed quickly from your home! Once all your unnecessary items have been removed, you can give everywhere a good clean. Not only will it help to clear your mind, but it will make your house look nicer. And cleaning will ensure your family stays healthy in your home!

Change your wall color

If you are feeling stressed, it could be down to the color of the walls in your home. There has been a lot of research which has found the colors can affect our mood. For example, red increases your energy, while yellow can fill you with excitement. If you are struggling to feel calm in your home, you need to repaint your room in a calming color. Blue would be an excellent choice for your bedroom; it has been found to make people feel relaxed and serene.

Move around the furniture

If you have too much furniture in one room, you need to move it around to create some space. After all, if there is too much going on in one room, it will clutter your mind! Therefore, get moving your furniture around to make the room feel more spacious. And according to feng shui, it can help improve the energy in the room! As this feature says, any impact on the environment can lift your mood and provide satisfaction. So you might feel better straight away after moving the furniture around in the room!

Hopefully, once you have cleared your home, your mind will empty of negative thoughts!

Thinking Of Selling? How To Survive The Home Inspection

Thinking Of Selling? How To Survive The Home Inspection

When you are selling your house not only do you have to think about making it look like a show home but you also have to think about the home inspection. Fail that, and you’re likely not to have a buyer anyway. At a home inspection, your home will be surveyed from top to bottom, with all the nooks and crannies being thoroughly checked for any problems. Home inspections are carried out to protect the buyer from any unforeseen problems in the investment. And in the US nearly four out of five homes sold have had a home inspection. Curious to know what some of the biggest problems in your home could be? Read on to find out how to survive the home inspection.

Dress Up Your Home

Before the home inspection, the best thing you can do is dress up your home so it looks the best it can be. This means sparkling clean windows, carpets, and curtains. Check exterior steps for any loose bits and fill in any cracks in the interior walls. Also give you home a fresh coat of paint if possible. Before the home inspection repair disconnected or rotting gutters and clear them of leaves. Go through your house with a fine tooth comb. It may be that you need to fix your blocked toilet or get the oven professionally cleaned. It could be that you have a dripping faucet that needs repairing or your heating and cooling systems need a service. Make sure to address all these points before a home inspection to show your house off in tip top shape.

The Roof

Sometimes it could be your roof that causes issues with the home inspection. It may be that you simply need to fix a few loose tiles or it could be that the whole roof needs replacing. Usually, if there is a problem, the repair will be negotiated after the inspection. It will be up to both seller and buyer to work out who is willing to pay for what.

The Windows

Another issue that can come up at inspection are problems with the windows in your home. It could be that they don’t open properly, that they have bad seals or are leaking, or that they cause a large amount of condensation. If it’s small problems like small gaps near seals, the issue can be fixed at home using chaulk. However, if you need to replace windows, it is going to be a costly job. But if you don’t, your buyer may pull out during the home inspection. It’s worth weighing up the pros and cons.

Interior Problems

The home inspection can also bring to light issues inside your house. These can be electrical problems such as bad wiring or heating problems such as out of date thermostats or old HVAC systems. There will also be an assessment on your plumbing to make sure there are no old or leaking pipes or badly running hot water heaters. Try and resolve all of these issues before the home inspection. Because once you are at this stage you are likely to be accepting the lowest price you are willing to reach. And the buyer is also likely to be at the highest price he wants to go to as well.

Choosing Your Wedding Colours: How Do You Go About It?

Choosing Your Wedding Colours: How Do You Go About It?

Your wedding colors play a vital role in how your overall day will look. They’ll set the tone, show your personality and affect how everything comes together on the big day. If you’re unsure of how to go about it, here are some pointers which might help.

Speak To Your Bridesmaids

Your accent color will decide what color dresses your bridesmaids will be wearing on the day. Talk to them and ask them if there are any colors they are especially uncomfortable with wearing, which may help you to narrow down your choice. For example, certain shades (particularly very bright shades) like orange, green or yellow won’t be the most flattering with most people’s skin tones. Of course, it’s your big day, but try not to go too bridezilla! Your close friends as your bridesmaids will be up there with you too, and you don’t want them to feel insecure or self-conscious. It could be a good idea to have a few shades in mind for your wedding, and then go dress shopping with your bridesmaids first. Then if you manage to find the perfect gown, this is your main color choice to go for.

Draw Inspiration From Your Setting or Venue

Once you’ve decided on a venue, take a look around at the existing color scheme. If it’s a blank slate, you have free reign but anything with colored walls or carpets will look better with coordinating tones. For example, if your venue has orange carpets and you want mint green as your accent shade, it’s not going to look visually pleasing overall! If you have a charming, rustic looking venue, then a super modern and crisp color scheme may look out of place. So it can be worth spending some time thinking about how everything will look and all come together before finalizing your choice.

Think of Your Wedding Decorations

If you have a particular type of flower you have always wanted to use in your wedding, find out what colors these come in. Many flowers such as roses can be bought in lots of different colors, so you have more choice. But bear in mind that more unusual shades will be harder to locate, and cost more money. If for example, you’ve always loved lilacs or sweet pea flowers, it’s a clue that you should go down the purple/ lilac route. If you plan on using lilies, peonies or traditional roses, then pink is the best choice. Another thing to think about is your wedding stationery since this will also incorporate your colors. This is the first hint guests will get of your big day so you’ll want to get it right. You could order some wedding invitation samples before placing the full order so you can see how your colors and designs look together.

Co-Ordinate Colors By Season

Use the season you’re getting married in to help decide on your color palette. Pastel hues are typical in the spring- lilacs, powder blues, and pale dusky pinks are good choices. For summer you could go with something more vibrant- fuchsia, coral or teal could be a great option. Fall moves into warmer shades, burgundy, berry red, burnt orange, and golds. And winter works well with cool blue shades from light ice blue to navy to silvers and gray tones.

Pick Your Favourite Colours

While there’s more to choosing great wedding shades than simply picking your favorites, it’s a good place to start. These are your favorites for a reason, they inspire and draw you to them and so could be a good option for your wedding. If you’re not sure, there are an enormous amount of wedding pictures online to look through. Search somewhere like Pinterest and see which shots you’re most drawn to. From that, you should get a good idea as to what colors attract you most.

Search For Color Combinations That Work

For your accent color, you could pick two different shades of the same color- for example, pale blue and navy. Or you could choose contrasting yet complementing hues. This includes combinations such as blush pink and gray, mint and peach or red and black. That way once you’ve decided on your first shade, it’s easy to choose a second since you can narrow the search down to complementary shades.

Go With an Achromatic Color

Finally, if nothing seems quite right then an achromatic shade is a good way to add accent hue without going down the colorful route. Tones of gray/silver or black can look striking against white for a wedding. So if you’re not really into color, or just want to make a statement this is an excellent way to go.

Trouble Drifting Off? Take Note Of These Five Tips!

Trouble Drifting Off? Take Note Of These Five Tips!

There is nothing worse than laying in bed at night, not being able to drift off. You lay there, tossing and turning, trying everything that you can think of to doze off, but for some reason, nothing seems to work. The more you try to fall asleep, the more awake you feel. This can be a real problem because it can become a habit. This is because when you go to bed the next night, after not sleeping well, the fact that you struggled to sleep may play on your mind. This can then make it hard to fall asleep, as you’re obsessing over it.

While some people suffer from insomnia for unknown reasons, for the majority of us who struggle to sleep, there’s a reason behind it. It’s important to determine what that reason is because a lack of sleep can have a big impact on your daily life. You see, how well you sleep at night can impact your waking hours by leaving you feeling constantly exhausted. Before signing up to attend a sleep clinic, give the five tips below a try and see if they make it easier for you to drift off.

  1. Implement a sleep schedule

The chances are that the reason you’re struggling to doze off is because you don’t have a sleep schedule in place. Any sleep specialist will tell you that one of the best things you can do to get a better night’s sleep is implement a sleep schedule. The reason for this is because having a set schedule in place will ensure that when you go to bed, you are tired and ready to sleep. Making it easier to drift off. Most adults need eight hours of sleep a night, so choose a bedtime and wake-up time that will allow you to get that amount of sleep. To make the process a little easier, there are sleep apps available that you can download to schedule a sleep pattern. The most important thing is to stick to your sleep schedule every single day – even on the weekends.

  1. Keep technology locked away after nine pm

A common reason that we struggle to sleep is because when it comes to dozing off, our minds are too active. The main reason for this is because we are constantly using technology. Computers, smartphones, tablets, and TVs encourage our brains to be active. That’s why it’s a good idea to ban all technology after nine each night, to allow your mind to relax. Instead of watching TV or playing on your smartphone, try reading a book or listening to calming music.

  1. Be smart about how and when you exercise

run-1290022_960_720Picture link

Studies show that people who exercise regularly tend to be less prone to insomnia. So it’s important to ensure that you’re getting enough exercise each day – even 10 minutes of light walking can make a difference. To see a difference in your sleep habits, it takes a couple of months of regular exercise. So it’s important that you stick at it. While it’s important to exercise, exercising in the evening is a bad idea. This is because exercise ups body temperature and increases the body’s production of cortisol. Cortisol is a stimulant that encourages the mind to be active. Thus making it harder for your mind to relax, and you to fall asleep.  So it’s best to exercise in the morning or early afternoon, instead of in the evening.

  1. Create a comfortable sleep space

If the environment that you’re sleeping in isn’t comfortable and tranquil, this can have a serious impact on how well you sleep. This means having a sleep space that’s cool and well ventilated – most people sleep best in cool spaces. It’s also important to ensure that your bed is as comfortable as possible, this means having a quality mattress and cotton bedding. If your mattress isn’t comfortable, it could make it hard to fall asleep. So it may worth considering replacing it with a new memory foam mattress, or if you can’t afford a new mattress, with a mattress topper. To find out more about memory foam, search for an online guide to Tempur memory foam mattresses. As for your pillows, if you don’t have a comfortable pillow, this can also have an impact. Head to your local home store and test out some pillows to find the perfect one.

  1. Put a relaxing bedtime routine into place

As a child, your parents may have had a relaxing bedtime routine in place to help you sleep. This probably consisted of having a warm bath, putting on your pajamas, and having a story read to you in bed. Just because you’re all grown up, that doesn’t mean that having a relaxing bedtime schedule won’t be beneficial. Think about what relaxes you, such as having a lavender bubble bath, followed by a cup of tea and reading a book in bed. Put a relaxing bedtime schedule in place and see if it makes it easier to drift off each night.

There you have it, five tips for making it easier to drift off and get a good night’s sleep.
