Modifying Your Car

The whole motivation for tuning your car is to extract the best possible performance from it by adding, altering or completely replacing the parts fitted as standard by the factory. So what car tuning parts are available to achieve this aim? Read on to find out a little more about this addictive hobby.

The prime area where modifications can be made through the use of specialist aftermarket performance car parts is to the vehicle’s engine and management systems. Buy and fit an appropriate engine tuning box and you can expect to see significant gains in fuel efficiency, as well as overall increases in torque and brake horsepower. This device is relatively inexpensive and can be easily installed into your engine bay, usually plugging into the engine’s existing wiring structure. Alter the engine to increase its power output, though, and you may find that it’s desirable to make some other modifications to help you and your vehicle cope with the additional, improved performance that results. Of course, you need to choose the correct auto electrician for you if this is something you do not have experience in.

One set of car tuning parts you might want to invest in, for instance, is a suspension kit. By improving your car’s suspension, you’ll have the ability to drive your car that little bit faster without compromising on safety. With a lower ride height, and therefore, lower centre of gravity, for example, some car tuning parts can reduce the chances of body roll and increase the stability of the vehicle when cornering or travelling at speed. These are just two examples, and even within this area, there is plenty of choice available depending on your type of car and your goals for improving its performance.

New Or Second Hand?

Performance parts online are widely available to give your car a bit of an added oomph. Everyone loves a bargain, so it can be tempting to shop around at online auction houses for second-hand pieces. But are you really saving money or will this cost you more in the longer term?

If you are interested in improving the performance of your car, then to a large extent, it makes a lot more sense to buy new. Only this way can you be absolutely certain that you are getting good value for money and that the performance car parts you are buying will be both durable and give the improvement in results that you expect. Other factors to consider are the convenience and the availability of the parts you need. Because it’s vital that you buy parts that are actually compatible with your vehicle, then purchasing second hand can be labour intensive and fairly hit and miss too. It may take you ages to source the right used exhaust at the right price for your model of Audi, for example, whereas most new sellers will be able to supply off the shelf solutions for many makes and models. The other thing to be aware of is that some car performance parts should never be reused for simple health and safety reasons. These include brake pads and shoes, clutch discs, and shock absorbers, for example. It is essential that you buy these new every time.

How To Learn More About Yourself

How To Learn More About Yourself

We often go through life being led by our emotions, or driven by our desires. We plan our lives based on what we might want or think is ‘right’ to do. We can often be led by circumstance and development, and the choices we make also dictate who we are. This article will not be some faux-helpful attempt to try and make you a ‘better’ person. We’re not here to judge you in any capacity. Instead, we’re here to try and help you become more actualized in yourself, giving you the tools to consider yourself.

Many of us can go through life feeling somewhat confused. We might find our identity through our passions, our craft, our responsibilities. But do we spend time deliberately finding out who we are? Not always. After all, much of life is making who you are, not finding it out for yourself. But some things you cannot change, and they all are valid when it comes to who you might be and how you might act. If you feel that this kind of inquiry interests you, considering yourself in the following ways could be a phenomenal approach:

Keep A Journal

A journal can tell you much more than you might have otherwise realized. There are many reasons as to why this is the case. When you have thoughts, they are usually quite pressing at the time. We all have our own ‘storylines’ we keep a hold of. But then, just like sand, these call fall through our fingers, and as we move onto the next thing we forget the minute details of our past. This is where keeping a journal can become one of the most brilliant methods of keeping in touch with your past self. Reach an entry you had written one year ago today, and you’ll likely see a completely different person. The content you apply to those pages isn’t for us to decide, only that you’ll see how your life has progressed since you started upholding said journal, and it will often humble you, and see just how far you’ve come.

Consider Your Needs

Learning from and listening to your body is one of the most important things you can do for your health. But instead of simply resting, drinking and eating when you need to, learning about your actual requirements can be achieved before you jump into yo-yo dieting, or trying the new ‘panacea’ health supplement. This excellent blogger review of a food sensitivity test results kit can show you just how learning about your dietary sensitivities, your needs and how you might react to many different food groups can revolutionize your diet, and instead of simply ‘trying’ diets you’ll have a better idea of what works for you. This way, you’ll be considering your needs with an objective understanding.

Try

Challenge can shape us all. Often it’s not the result that we come to which is the biggest reward, but the lessons we learn on the way. Getting in shape, going for that promotion or even launching your own initiative can all be an excellent set of efforts to keep in mind, and if you do that, you’ll be much more likely to try and define yourself through action.

With these tips, you’re sure to learn more about yourself.

Surviving Your Family Road Trip This Summer

Summer is fast approaching, and soon, it’ll be time to take a well-deserved holiday with the family. Road trips are a fun and cost-effective way to spend time with your family, allowing you to see sights that other holidaymakers might miss on their adventure. While family road trips can be a blast, it can also be challenging to pack the whole family in a car or camper for weeks at a time. Thankfully, Thule products will make that part of it a lot easier. If you’re planning on taking a family road trip this summer, here are some tips to help you make your holiday a smashing success.

Pack Plenty of Snacks

We all know that children can be bottomless pits in between lunch and dinner time. On a road trip, it’s not always possible to pull over and grab a bite to eat when the kids are getting hungry, so it’s a good idea to have plenty of snacks on hand. Bring a cooler to pack some healthy fruits, vegetables, and trail mix, but don’t forget to bring a couple of treats along too. Nothing keeps kids happier than munching on a biscuit or a chocolate bar when their stomach is starting to grumble. You should also pack plenty of juice and water so that nobody gets dehydrated, but try not to let your kids drink more than necessary, as this can lead to bathroom emergencies.

Bring Something to Entertain the Kids

Every parent dreads the point in a road trip where you begin to hear that question from the backseat, the one that’s sure to keep popping up relentlessly throughout the day- “are we there yet?”

Bringing entertainment for your kids can help to keep them occupied throughout your trip while helping you to maintain your sanity. Portable DVD players, gaming devices, and other electronics can keep children of all ages entertained for hours. You can pack a backpack with inexpensive toys, games, colouring books and other activities. Your kids will have so much fun digging through their goody bag, they won’t even notice that you’ve been driving all day.

Pack an Emergency Kit

On a road trip, your car needs to be in a safe condition before setting off on your journey. Ensure that the oil and water are checked and that your tyres are fully inflated and road legal.

You should also pack an emergency kit which needs to include more than blankets and extra toiletries. You also need to bring equipment to maintain your vehicle just in case it breaks down. There are a few essentials that every emergency kit should include:

  • A charged emergency mobile phone
  • A full first aid kit
  • A fire extinguisher rated for Class B and Class C fires
  • Reflective warning triangles
  • A tire gauge
  • Foam tyre sealant or a spare tyre and jack
  • Jumper cables
  • A flashlight and extra batteries
  • Duct tape
  • Towing tools
  • A utility knife

Get Your Car Summer Ready

Get Your Car Summer Ready

Summer has got to be the best season for getting out and about and enjoying a healthy lifestyle but is your car ready for it? Some people don’t think about getting their car ready for the summer and don’t know where to start but if you’re planning on doing day trips and wanting to take equipment then there are some essentials that you should be considering. Have a look below at some of the things you could be looking at to get your car ready for this summer.

Service

It’s always useful and recommended to have your car serviced at least once a year to ensure it’s running smoothly and correctly. By doing this you are able to identify any problems that may have been bigger problems if not noticed. While having services things such as tires, engines, water, and oil will be checked to make sure it’s safe for long journeys. It’s a good idea to check your pollen filter in your car too as if you have any allergies such as hay fever not having this replaced could mean your allergies are worse than normal and your car should be a place you are able to keep relatively pollen-free.

Equipment

If you’re planning on taking any equipment on your days out then it is definitely worthwhile considering if your car needs any adaptations to be able to do this. You may want to take bikes with you, if you do sometimes you are able to install a universal bike rack however in some cases having a Tow Bar is essential for carrying bikes on your car. Having a towbar can also be useful for pulling things such as caravans, trailers and horse carts. Another way to carry equipment on your car is to have roof racks where you are able to carry equipment like bikes, roof boxes and kayaks making it very versatile. Roof boxes can be extremely useful for day trips as well as holidays away as you can store all the equipment you need out of the boot of the car.

Summer Essentials

We all know that in the winter it’s a good idea to have items such as blankets, a torch, and a few emergency food items in case you ever break down or are stuck in hours of traffic however did you know you can also have one of these for a summer emergency. Now you’re not going to need things such as blankets but having useful items such as bug spray, cooling mists, sun creams (because yes you can burn sitting in a traffic jam), water and emergency foods can be your best friend if you were to find yourself stuck for a while. Bear in mind that some of these items need to be kept out of the sun though and can become unsafe if not in the shade and get too warm.

Do you have any other ways you can get your car ready for summer? Please share them in the comments section below.

Cut The Cost Of Motoring By Making Smarter Choices

Cut The Cost Of Motoring By Making Smarter Choices

The average cost of motoring has reached record highs, thanks to increases in the price of fuel, insurance, and vehicles themselves. Getting from A to B has never been more expensive.

But it turns out that there are a lot of things you can do to cut the costs of motoring. It’s not always easy, but if you implement the following tips, your bank balance will thank you.

Check out the following.

Service Your Car According To The Manufacturer’s Schedule

While putting off servicing costs will save you money in the short-run, it’ll almost certainly cost you in the long-run. Cars need a regular maintenance schedule to prevent parts from wearing out and engine damage. If you don’t abide by a strict schedule, you risk causing damage to the engine and other components, leading to higher overall costs.

Carmakers provide a maintenance schedule in the handbook that comes with the car. Sticking with it will help you cut down on the total money you have to invest in keeping your vehicle on the road. Currently, most motorists spend more on maintaining and servicing their cars than they do insurance: this needs to stop.

Repair Chips In Your Windshield

Chips in your windshield can quickly develop into cracks, necessitating windshield replacement. It’s a good idea, therefore, to deal with chips immediately. Usually, your insurer will pay for you to have chips repaired, without affecting your no-claims and with no excess to pay – always a good thing.

Stop Paying For Parking

Paying £2.50 a day for parking might not seem like much. But if you park for work and go to work in the car 200 days per year, that’s £500 you’re forking out for practically nothing.

If you work in an urban area, look for alternative places to park your vehicle. Perhaps a friend who lives near where you need to be has a free driveway you can use. Or maybe there’s a street around the corner with no parking restrictions, ten-minutes walk from where you work.

Don’t Pay For Insurance Products You Don’t Need

Insurance companies have an annoying habit of bolting on insurance products that you don’t need. Companies will try to sell you all sorts of things, like courtesy cars, litigation cover, and payout protection cover. Yes, you might benefit from some of these, but for most people, they’re not worth the money. Slash your premiums by cutting your added extras.

Buy A Speed Monitor

With local authorities strapped for cash, many are turning to motorists to pick up a quick buck. Police resources are being diverted from other areas to catch drivers who may be speeding. This setup is bad for everyone: it’s bad for the motorists who get caught speeding, and it’s bad for the people who aren’t being protected from crime. Speed monitors help to make sure that you stay within the speed limit, no matter where you are. Many of these devices connect to GPS and a database of known speed limits. Together, they provide warnings when you drive too quickly and alert you when you make mistakes.
