Three Reasons Why It’s Important To Take A Break From Tech

Technology has been a wonderful thing in our lives, it has meant that we can stay connected to people all over the world, we can send emails in seconds, video chat with people on the other side of the world and find out news instantly and from all over like never before. However, with all the benefits our laptops, smartphones, and tablets bring, they have also brought a lot of stress and anxiety to people’s lives, and they are not always good for our health. People have become so reliant on their phones that a new cell phone law has been introduced as many people cannot cope for a couple of hours without using their phones. How did we cope before we had phones? There are many reasons why we need to take a break from tech, and here are three of them.

To better connect with people.

While you might think that you are connecting with people on your phone, you’re not – not properly. If you put your phone down, you can connect with those people you are with in real life. It’s easy to think you’re connecting with someone because you’re sat having dinner with them, but if you’re constantly looking at your phone or even just aware of your phone, then you’re not giving the other person your full attention. Have some time where you switch off your phone and spend time with people, get them to turn theirs off too, and see what a difference it makes. If you find that you’re struggling to make conversation, then it shows that you’ve been spending too much time on your phone and is definitely time to take a break.

You’ll be more productive.

For many things you need technology to get the job done, but how many times do you go to look something up and then get distracted by notifications and end up down a rabbit hole watching Youtube videos that are completely irrelevant to what you wanted to do in the first place and in fact you have forgotten what you were going to do in the first place. If you have jobs you need to do, turn the notifications on your mobile phone off, close down your social media pages on your computer, and cut down the distractions so that you can focus on whatever it is you want to achieve.

You’ll reduce stress. Being connected 24/7 is very stressful, whether it’s work who can contact you or it’s you checking your work emails all the time, there’s never time to switch off. Not only that, but too much time on social media means that many people are experiencing higher levels of anxiety from comparing themselves to other people and constantly feeling the pressure of how they look in their photos or what they are doing with their lives. Using technology can also disrupt your sleep, which is no good for stress, so it’s a good idea to turn off at least an hour before bed and read a book. Start doing this, and you’ll soon begin to feel less stressed.

4 Great Reasons to Make Your Home Smart

It’s safe to say that technology is advancing at a rapid pace. In no more than a couple of decades, we went from corded phones to smartphones you can use to chat with your friends and shop online. Still, one of the biggest advantages the age of technology brought us is smart homes. Now you can have devices in your home like a thermostat, security cameras and a TV connected to a system you can control from your smartphone. If you’ve been thinking about making your home smart, here are 4 great reasons why you should go through with it.

Security

One of the best things about having a smart home is that it means you’ll have an advanced security system that includes cameras and motion sensors. When it comes to cameras, you can connect these to your smartphones, which will allow you to take a look at what’s happening inside of your home when you’re away. Motion sensors can be set up to send you a notification whenever someone enters your yard. Some smart homes even have fingerprint identification instead of traditional locks, and if you decide to invest in this as well, it’ll be even more difficult for burglars to get inside.

Flexibility

With more and more people deciding to make their homes smart, most new devices on the market can easily be integrated into an existing smart home system. This is a huge plus, mostly because even if you have top-notch devices, it doesn’t mean they’ll last forever, so it’s possible that you’ll need to find replacements at some point. And since you can integrate any new device into your smart home system, there’s absolutely nothing to worry about when making your home smart. Not to mention that there are all kinds of new smart devices being released and you’ll be able to add each of these into your smart home.

Remote control

We’ve already mentioned that by making your home smart, you’ll get to control all of your devices from your smartphone. It cannot be stressed enough how important this is, as it makes your life much easier. Let’s say you’re on your way home from work on a hot day. All you need to do is tap your smartphone and you’ll have your air conditioner turned on. It’s also important to mention that it doesn’t take a lot of effort to make your home controllable from far away as you can have professional CBus installers get the job done for you.

Functionality

If you’ve decided to make your home a smart home, you’ll also get to see all of your devices performing better. For example, by replacing a traditional TV for a smart one, not only will you be able to watch Netflix or YouTube on a big screen, but you’ll be able to connect it to your smartphone with just a few taps. Or, in case you choose to get a smart oven, cooking your chicken to perfection will be a real piece of cake. No matter which smart devices you opt for, your home life is guaranteed to become more enjoyable.

Smart homes sure are exciting stuff, and they’re definitely worth investing in. And with more and more homeowners deciding to turn their homes into smart homes, the biggest tech companies out there are giving their best to outdo one another. As a result, there are all kinds of smart devices available and some of these simply have to find their place in of your home. We can only expect to see more of these being released, so make sure you keep an eye on new smart home devices on the market.

The 2020 Vision: 5 Tips To Ensure Your Home Is Ready For The Next Decade

The 2020 Vision: 5 Tips To Ensure Your Home Is Ready For The Next Decade

Now that the year of 2018 is in full swing, many homeowners will be thinking about the upgrades that can be made to their properties over the next 12 months. While creating a better home is certainly admirable, it’s important not to get completely blinded by the immediate desires. In truth, you should aim to get your home in the best health for years to come.

Even if you believe that selling could be likely within the next 10 years, adopting an approach that considers those long-term needs is vital. Here’s how.

Incorporate technology | Home technology has evolved at a rapid rate over the past decade, and that trend will continue over the next. Therefore, a property that doesn’t incorporate those ideas in the near future will soon start to feel even more outdated than it already does. Tech features can make the home smarter, safer, and more cost-efficient. Frankly, this is an essential task for bringing the home into the current day and preparing it for the years ahead. Overlook it at your peril.

Protect the building | Most homeowners are happy to protect their homes against the threat of burglars. However, many forget to treat the equally common issues that surface due to natural elements. Being exposed to harsh weather conditions can result in damage that impacts your life as well as the property’s condition. Upgrading the roof and windows will go a long way to helping, while also boosting the insulation. When added to items like flood barriers, you won’t go wrong.

Consider family needs | It’s very easy to think solely about interior beauty. However, your home needs to boast a sense of practicality. This is especially true when considering the changes that your family may encounter over the coming years. The need for space may grow as the family gets bigger, so it’s vital that you make those preparations now. Otherwise, you could be left facing another renovation cycle far sooner than initially expected.

Focus on quality | Every homeowner shares a goal of making their money work harder. But the word cheap should not be confused with value. Seeking the latter is pivotal at all times. This home renovation guide will encourage you to consider all factors. These can range from when the DIY approach is best to knowing what to look for before signing work off. Unfortunately, if you do something wrong, you’ll inevitably end up doing it twice. In turn, that will obliterate your finances and sanity.
