How To Fix Slippery Shoes

How To Fix Slippery Shoes

A great pair of shoes can help anyone conquer the world in front of them. However, some fabulous footwear doesn’t fit all the criteria’s needed to make them the perfect pair. Some shoes are too big, too small, pinchy, unsupported, or slippery. Most of these issues can be discovered just by trying them on. Unfortunately, slippery shoes might only be realized after you have them out on the town. So what are some ways how to fix slippery shoes?

Shoe Sole Grips

There are shoe sole grips that can be placed on the bottom of the shoes that feel like a sandpaper sticker. They are easy to apply, just peel and stick. This option lasts for a while depending on how many miles the soles take on.

Duct Tape Fixes Everything

The magic of duct tape can help you fix something that’s broken or remove a wart. In addition, if you are out on the town and slipping all over the place, find yourself some duct tape. Break off about an inch and a half and place on the bottom of each shoe. The duct tape can still have a little slip, but it will gather much more traction than without it.

To make it have more traction, scratch the sole with the duct tape in place against the blacktop or the concrete sidewalk. The scratches in the tape will be like groves that can hug the ground better.

Hairspray for a Temporary Fix

Hairspray isn’t only for keeping your hair in place. Spraying the bottom of your shoes with hairspray will leave a tacky grip that can make it more bearable to walk. It won’t last, but it will work for an evening.

Spray the sole generously. Wait a minute for it to almost dry completely. A little bit of stick will do the trick.

Sandpaper to Scratch the Surface

Using fine-grit sandpaper on the sole of your shoes will allow enough groves to provide more traction. Scratch the surface in a circular motion or in a side-to-side sweep. Do not over-sand the sole. The point is to gain traction, not make the shoes look rustic with sandpaper. By over-sanding, you could make it smooth again or potentially damage the sole.

Any of these options can help you gain some traction on a night out. The peel and stick option is the most reliable. However, I’ve used the duct tape option on several occasions with great success. Nevertheless, use what you got to stay sturdy on your night out since not all shoes are created equal.

Coping with New Puppy Troubles

Coping with New Puppy Troubles

They’re cute and cuddly. They can win your heart over in a split second. However, new puppies are a lot of work. They are just babies that need love and attention as they learn all about this great big world. From crying all night long to continuously peeing on the carpet can make you go a little crazy. However, this time will pass as long as you dedicate time to training your new family member. Here are a few things to remember when coping with new puppy troubles.

Crying Game

When a new puppy enters a home after being taken away from its momma, it can be a lonely experience at night time. If the puppy is put into a crate at bed or gated off from you, expect to hear the sobs of the little one for the first few nights.

Do not give in to the tears if you plan on having boundaries when it comes to where the pup will sleep. If you cave, the dog will always expect you to give in to its crying.

If the puppy is crying, it’s best to make the puppy as comfortable as possible. Lay a blanket that smells like you into the crate. Perhaps, you have something that smells like their momma; that is a perfect option as well.

Another great trick is using a heartbeat stuffed animal for the puppy. The battery-operated toy simulates the heartbeat of other puppies being close by.

If the puppy keeps on crying, comfort them in the space you wish for them to learn as their space. They will eventually understand that you will keep coming back for them instead of feeling abandoned. If you don’t want the pup to sleep with you, don’t cave or that’s where the little one will end up every night.

That’s Not A Bathroom

The little puppies have little bladders. It’s difficult to potty train any breathing species, but patience and consistency will make it happen. However, accidents are bound to happen, especially in the beginning.

If the pup makes a mess on the floor or furniture, clean it up as soon as you notice. The longer the mess sits the more it sets into the fabric. That smell will attract them to come back to that area time and time again.

Use soap and water on the area to break down the scent and sanitize the area. Once the area is dry, use baking soda on the area to absorb the remaining odor. Let sit for 10 minutes before vacuuming up. Baking soda will also take away dog odors that will build up in the house that most dog owners become nose blind to. Using baking soda once a week on the carpets will keep allergens at bay while keeping floors smelling and looking fresh.

It Bites

Puppies teethe like all babies. The gums hurt as puppies cut new teeth, and the only comfort is gnawing on all your favorite things. It might not hurt when a little puppy mouth chops on your hand, but remember that little one will grow into a bigger dog with a harder bite if you don’t nip it now.

When you find the puppy chewing on inappropriate things, say ‘No’ and give them something that is acceptable to chew. It’s important to stay consistent with this command. It will save you a lot of headaches and material objects.

Enjoy the newest member of your family to the fullest as you learn how to cope with new puppy troubles. The puppies grow up pretty fast, so stay diligent in your training. The harder you work on early training will make your beloved puppy easier to handle as they grow,

5 Ways To Boost The Confidence In Your Kids

5 Ways To Boost The Confidence In Your Kids

If you want to ensure you have happy children, you have to make sure that they’re comfortable with themselves and their surroundings. Confidence plays such a huge part in life – and especially in young people as they grow. If you have a kid with very low confidence, it can have a huge effect on them when they’re fully grown.

The good thing is that you can do plenty in order to ensure that you have kids that grow into confident grown-ups with solid self-esteem. Here are just a few ways you can make that happen:

Teach Them New Things Whenever You Can

The more a child knows about life, the more confident they’ll become as time moves on – that’s just how life tends to go. If they have more common sense, they’ll be more confident. You could also supplement your child’s learning when they’re not at school by teaching them relevant skills.

Buy Them Certain Things That Might Help Them Feel Grander

Every now and again, you have the opportunity to buy your kids things that might add a little variety to their lives. They might even improve their situation somewhat. Whether you help their teeth with a cosmetic dentist appointment or you get them the outfits they’ve longed for, a little generosity in this regard can do a world of good.

Don’t Allow Them To Sit Around All Day

If your kids are sitting around and looking at screens all day, then they’re probably going to develop a pretty negative habit. It’s so easy to get stuck in this kind of way – especially with how convenient and comfortable the likes of video games and social media are. Letting them chill for a little while would be fine, but don’t let them get into a bad routine of it. They’ll lose self-esteem pretty quickly and begin to forget basic social skills.

Provide A Positive Home Environment In General

The home needs to be a place of positivity. If there is positive energy in your domestic life, then the chances are that the energy is going to be kept for other places, too. Your kids will be so impressionable during their learning and developmental years, so you have to make sure you’re raising them with happiness and positivity. Their adolescence and adulthood could be very awkward if all they know is misery.

Watch Out For Who They Spend Their Time With

Who a person spends their time with says an awful lot about how their life pans out. If your kids are spending their time with other kids who are good-natured with the right attitudes, then you’re going to have very few worries about their behaviors and actions. The opposite may be said if they’re with kids that have all the wrong intentions in life. The good thing is that you can have a say in this matter. Of course, watching over everything they do won’t be good for them, but you’ll have the knowledge and wisdom to know who is good for them and who isn’t.

How To Effectively Supplement Your Child’s Learning

How To Effectively Supplement Your Child’s Learning

A child’s learning is incredibly important, and as a parent, you need to be taking this seriously. There may be times when your child is struggling in school, or there may be a subject in which they are not the best at, resulting in their learning needing to be supplemented. This isn’t always going to happen, but when the time comes you’ve got to know how to see results here. In this article, we’re going to be taking a look at some of the ways that you can effectively supplement your child’s learning, so keep reading if you would like to find out more about this topic.

Be Fair

The first thing that we are going to say is that you have to ensure that you are being fair with them as much as possible. The schedule that you set for their learning has got to be reasonable, not making them cram in too much information in such a short period of time. It’s essential that the brain has rest breaks between learning new things, otherwise, it is going to be unable to retain the information that it is being fed.

As well as this, you have got to ensure that you are not putting too much pressure on them. Academics are not everything in life despite some people’s opinions, and that is what you need to convey to them. The results of their exams are not the be-all and end-all of life, and it’s important that they know that. Those who have too much pressure put on them are at risk of burning out and underperforming, which is the last thing that you need.

Find The Best Way They Learn

Another thing that you are going to need to do is to find the best way for your child to learn. Not everyone learns in the same way, and that is completely okay. You cannot expect one child to learn in the same way as another as each child is indivudial. As such, if you have noticed that a particular form of working is not helping, then it’s time to try another. An example of this is that some children find that they are able to simply read and retain the information, whereas others need to see it written in another format, they need to write it out, or they need to see a live demonstration.

Understanding your child’s basic educational needs is going to be essential to effectively supplementing their learning.

Make It Fun

We also want to mention that you can make learning fun if you are willing to put in the effort. You should spend some time coming up with different ways to help the information sink into your child’s brain, and take residence there so that they never forget it. For example, there will be times when you can take your kid to the local park to teach them about certain things. Doing this will make it far more memorable than trying to get them to read it from a textbook and simply memorize it.

Try to keep in mind that it’s the fun things in life that we are more likely to remember, and that is why coming up with new and exciting ways of learning is essential. Another example could be using baking to teach kids about ratios in math, or having them act out scenes in a play to get them to understand the meaning behind them. There are hundreds of ways to make teaching fun, it’s just about coming up with them and executing them well.

Use The Right Materials

Next, you should ensure that you are using the right materials which are going to provide the greatest benefits for your child. Common core worksheets and similar materials are available for free online. These are incredibly useful and can easily be printed out so that they can be used on a daily basis or around your child’s individual home learning schedule.

Do be aware that there are also resources like apps that are great for learning too. Apps are fantastic because they will mean that the whole experience feels far more fun for your child. It will allow them to work through different pieces of content in minutes and absorb all the information that they need. Don’t forget children are also used to spending lots of time on apps these days. So, it won’t feel quite as jarring as hard copies of materials.

Speak To School

Finally, you should think about speaking to the school about the best options for your child. Ultimately, you can start by speaking to your child but it’s the teacher who will be able to give you an honest and accurate perspective of your child’s overall performance. They can explain where they are falling short and the right steps that you should consider to help your child fall back in life.

You might also find that the school will be able to recommend some of the best learning materials that your child can benefit from outside of the school environment too. This is great as it means that you won’t be wasting time on materials that are either outdated or simply aren’t providing the right support for the current curriculum.

You might be worried that the school won’t be willing to help with issues like this. However, we’re confident that this won’t be the case. You just need to make sure that you remain polite when completing an initial inquiry.

We hope this helps you understand some of the key steps that you can take to effectively supplement your child’s learning. Remember, their teacher and the school, in general, will take most of the heavy lifting here. However, by putting the right steps in place, you can provide your child with the boost that they need. This will ensure that you can help them thrive in their school career and avoid a situation where they fall short of potential goals. You will also be able to take the pressure off as they won’t feel as though they are constantly fighting to stay afloat at school.

Why Teach Your Kids to Ride Bikes

Why Teach Your Kids to Ride Bikes

Is there anything more memorable for a child learning how to ride a bike for the first time with two wheels? Learning to ride a bike brings back vivid memories from Christmas gifts wrapped with ribbons of helmets and shin pads, and invokes memories of bubbling along the road while your mum or dad holds the bottom of the bike to help you to stay balanced.

It was something every child wanted to master and when your child’s friends get all the training wheels taken off you’re going to want to know how to help them to learn how to ride a bike. We are able to commute to work with the ebikes these days, but that doesn’t mean you can’t buy traditional bikes for your child to learn. Here are some of the reasons that you should allow your child to learn to ride a bike and you should help them do it.

  • It’s such an achievement. What child doesn’t love the feeling of accomplishment that comes from learning to ride a bike for the first time? Kids love to accomplish things on their own, and when they achieve a goal it boosts their confidence in a big way. The same applies to riding a bike. Usually, children begin with training wheels so that they can lead to balance. Once they’ve mastered pedaling and they must have their training wheels, you might take off one of those training wheels to help them to learn how to balance further. It’s only then you can take off both and start teaching them how to maintain that center of balance with two wheels.
  • It can build both legs and core muscles. Exercise is so important for growing children and when they learn how to ride a bike they are not just doing it to enjoy themselves. They are developing stronger core and leg muscles that they’re really going to enjoy building. Children have to really learn how to balance and it’s not just about where their hands are placed, but the way that the size sits on the bike and the way that their bodies can hold themselves upright.
  • They feel like they fit. Social contact for children is so important, and learning to ride a bike is going to help them to feel like they fit in. They want to fit in with their friends and they want to make sure that they are able to join in with any bike riding and going over to their friends’ homes. When your child learns to ride a bike, they are learning to do something big for themselves, and you should encourage that.
  • They can get around. When children learn to ride their bikes they are going to be able to go to the park and to their friends’ homes by themselves or with you by their side. They might even start riding to school.
  • Biking is healthy. It’s a simple way for children to run errands.
  • They might even learn to cycle professionally.
