Don’t Let These Bad Habits Ruin Your Home (or Health!)

Many of us have awful housekeeping habits. We may not think that much about them. But there are some habits out there that can cause very severe problems. They can damage your property in big ways. They can play havoc with your health.

Let’s take a look at some common and dangerous habits!

Not washing things enough

We shed. A lot. Like, all of the time. Moisture, hair, dead skin… We might not be able to see it, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t happening! What do you think most of the dust and the dirt in your home is made from?

bed-1348721_960_720Pixabay

We often forget about this sort of thing. So most of us don’t ash our towels and bed sheets as often as we should. A towel should be washed every three days or so. Your bed sheets should be washed every week. These things are frequently exposed to your body, and they really get the brunt of the things I mentioned about. Carpets also get it pretty bad – most people never even clean their carpet! (And no, vacuuming isn’t the same as cleaning.)

Letting cables pile up

The average home has loads of electrical equipment. More, in fact, than might be safe for it. We have televisions, laptops, desktops, monitors, mobile phones, games consoles. They all need to be plugged in for hours at a time. A lot of the time, we’re using them all at once.

But most of us don’t appreciate how much pressure this puts on our electrical systems. Many of us are probably using cheap extension cords. Using them for most of the day could overload them easily. Make sure you invest in strong extension cords. Aim for mid-priced at least.

Covering up problems

Hiding an issue instead of dealing with it fosters bad habits. Not only that, it can cause tremendous damage to your property and your health. Got a dust problem? Get a vacuum and get rid of it properly instead of sweeping it under the rug. Got rust or mold? Eradicate the problem instead of just painting over it. Rust and mold can spread and weaken your home’s structure, even if you paint over them! Don’t just conceal problems. Find the time to deal with them.

Neglecting air quality

We spray a million different substances into the air. We use harsh chemicals to clean everything in the house. We let moisture build up and cause damage to the walls. Many of us are actually living in pretty dangerous environments when we’re at home. That activity doesn’t exactly create a great place for your lungs! The problem is that it’s hard to tell when there’s danger about. Mold testing can help you detect certain air-related problems. In general, you’re best off using less harsh sprays and fluids.

Keeping too much junk

The importance of getting rid of all that clutter that builds up should never be underestimated. Seriously, most of us will probably never use a good half of our possessions. Unloved clothes, books we’ll never read again, various gadgets and trinkets… Just get rid of them. Turn your house into a clean, calming place.

Sore Muscles After Your Workout? Try These Effective Remedies

Sore Muscles After Your Workout? Try These Effective Remedies

Whether you’ve been for a run or to a spin class, a workout can make you feel better than ever. You’ll feel stronger, more energized and one step closer to achieving your fitness goals. But there is something else you might gain from your workout too that isn’t so rewarding. An extensive workout can cause your muscles to become stiff and sore. This doesn’t usually happen straight away and can take a few days to develop. Sore muscles can cause pain and discomfort, while also affecting your mobility. This can stop you from being able to continue working out until you have recovered. While it’s difficult to avoid getting them, there are things you can do to reduce the pain.

Have a warm bath

Having a warm bath after your workout can help to relieve your sore muscles and the pain they cause. This is because the heat produced by the water increased blood flow and can improve your circulation. It can also promote relaxation which encourages your tight muscles to loosen up. In addition to using warm water, there are other things you can add to your bath to boost its effectiveness. Lavender and eucalyptus oils can make you feel even more relaxed and help to ease your pain. You can also use sea salts to reduce swelling for additional relief.

Do some gentle stretches

Stretching might feel like the last thing you want to do when your body is sore. But it can be extremely beneficial. Your muscles can feel tight and restricted when they start to recover from your workout. This can increase the amount of soreness you experience. But by stretching, you can loosen your muscles and relieve this tightness. This should then give you some relief from the pain. So no matter where you might be feeling sore, look on Youtube for stretching video tutorials. This will ensure you target the affected area and get relief sooner rather than later. You can also ask your personal trainer or the staff at your gym for their stretching recommendations.

Wear a compression sleeve

You might think that compression sleeves are only needed by people who require additional support after a sprain or injury. However, while there is some truth to this, it is not the only function a compression sleeve has. When you wear these devices after a tough workout, they have been found to reduce muscle soreness. This is because they can help to increase blood flow to certain areas which can aid recovery. They can also help you to avoid inflammation. So look online for an ankle, wrist or knee support sleeve which you can put on after each workout. Choose the most suitable option based on which areas you experience the most pain in. You should also consider wearing compression clothing after your workouts to reduce sore muscles even more.

If you often experience sore muscles after a workout, these remedies should provide you with some much-needed relief. The sooner your muscles recover from their pain and discomfort, the sooner you can get back to your fitness regime. So take what you have learned and enjoy having less pain to deal with.

Devastating Mistakes Made By Newlyweds In Their First Year Of Marriage

Devastating Mistakes Made By Newlyweds In Their First Year Of Marriage

We all know that marriage is a difficult thing to get right. According to the data from the US, about half of all marriages will eventually end in failure. And that’s just the headline statistics. There are millions more marriages held together at the seams by the duty to children and for financial benefit. How many happy marriages are actually out there? Some have estimated that the figure is as low as ten percent.

The reality of marriage is shocking. But a lot of the problems that blight the institution can be traced back to those first few months as a married couple. Couples who make mistakes early on can find it difficult to fix them later. Here we’re going to look at some of the issues that married couples have in their first year and what to do about them.

Making Mistakes When Buying A New Home

pexels-photo-192329Pexels

As a couple, you need a joint plan to get yourselves on the housing ladder. Going it alone or having secret saving accounts won’t work. Both of you need to be open and honest about the amount you can earn and the amount you can save after bills.

Once you make the decision to buy, it’s also important that you choose real estate agents with clout. Different agencies have different capacities. Some use data in an intelligent way to find you a home that actually meets your needs. Others take a back seat and let you make a decision that could cost you in the long run. Since you’ll be paying for your home for 25 years or more, it’s essential you make the right decisions as a couple early on.

Giving In To The Pressure To Have A Baby

pexels-photo-62272Pexels

Parents, and family in general can pressure you to have a baby early on in your marriage. You can’t leave it until later you’re repeatedly told. The problem for many couples with having a baby early is that they don’t get time to mature together as a couple. Parents need a sort of honeymoon period once they’re married to explore their relationship and get used to married life. Having a child can disrupt that process. What’s more, according to parents, having children is their greatest regret when they look back at their marriages. So it’s of vital importance that parents only have kids at the right time. When it comes to children, it’s worth waiting.

Spending More Than You’re Saving

Besides kids, finances are the biggest cause of arguments between parents. At the start of a marriage, money is tight. You’ve just blown thousands of dollars on a wedding. And by the time you get off honeymoon, you’ve barely got the money to pay the rent. This is the point at which newlyweds can get into trouble. If something comes up, like a vet bill, many newlyweds find themselves unable to pay for it. This then creates additional stress that can wreak havoc on your relationship. A good rule of thumb, therefore, is to save, save, save. Skimp on the wedding if you have to.

When everyone is having fun, things tend to run a lot smoother. Providing the planner is in control…

  1. Consider velvet

Of course, you want him to be chic and handsome all the time, but winter fabrics are just that much more luxurious! Imagine his in a dark navy velvet suit with a crisp white shirt. How about a beautiful tweed jacket? Make sure you both explore the options.

  1. Make it sparkle

With the nights drawing in a lot quicker, you have the perfect opportunity to play with your wedding lighting plan! If you want to light candles, make sure the environment is super safe – no wedding day accidents allowed! Super sparkly set of fairy lights in mason jars look amazing at winter weddings. If an injury is affecting your exercise, there are some things that you can do. First, consult with a professional such as a rehabilitation functional medicine specialist. They will be able to devise a plan to help you recover from your injury and get back exercising again.
