Get Back On Track And Get Things Done

Get Back On Track And Get Things Done

For many of us, mid-February is the time when our resolutions are waning. After a positive start to the year, our determination falters, and we slip back into old habits. We then feel frustrated and angry at ourselves, but feel overwhelmed and powerless to get back on track.

If you recognize this cycle, then you’re certainly not alone. It’s time to stop beating yourself up and make a few simple, positive changes.

Silence Your Inner Critic

So, you just spent the weekend binging on your latest box set. You slept late and ate fast, processed food. When Monday morning comes around, you’re tired, bloated, and feeling guilty and disgusted at yourself. Dirty dishes are still stacked up in the kitchen, and you haven’t achieved any of your goals.

Put it behind you. The weekend has gone, and this is a new week. Make a fresh list and get stuck in. Silence that critical voice. There’s no point in going over and over what you haven’t done. Just make a start on doing it.

Split Tasks

Often, we fail in achieving our goals because we take on too much. We were over ambitious in what we could reasonably achieve. It helps to make a list of all the things you want to complete over a long period of time. But it’s not helpful to look at in its entirety. Have you ever felt completely overwhelmed because you have so much to do? And the result was that you did nothing?

Try splitting your tasks into manageable chunks. Prioritize and focus on one thing at a time. This will help you adopt good habits. Work out which of the items would bring about the most benefit and tackle those first. Even if you tick one item off your list or make one simple change in your life, it’s something. And it’s certainly better than doing nothing at all.

Delegate

You don’t have to do everything yourself. In fact, it’s not advisable to do so. Wherever possible, split tasks with your family or work colleagues, etc. Make use of local services such as City Appliance Repair, who will fix broken appliances in super-fast time. This will free up your time and allow you to tick off another item from your to-do list.

Tackle Short Tasks

If you find you have a build-up of short tasks, re-think how you’re planning your time. If tasks take a couple of minutes to complete, get them out of the way immediately. For example, opening and filing post, washing your coffee cup, putting magazines or books away after use. These are the little things that mount up if left and end up taking much longer.

Plan Your Weekends

People often find that they waste time at the weekend. They set out with all good intentions but get lost along the way. Try planning your weekends in the same way you would plan your working days. You don’t have to be as strict, of course. After all, it is the weekend, and you should have some time off. But it helps to have a few things planned to ensure you stay on track. And remember to schedule some time to do the things you enjoy.

What If You Have No Time?

Finally, it’s worth mentioning time. Many of us lead busy lives, something that is part of modern living. But is it true that you have no time? As a simple exercise, try writing down everything you do in a week. You’ll be amazed how much time you spend watching television or scrolling through your phone. Think of how much time you could save or put to better use if you switched off your screens for a few hours.

A Smile A Day Keeps the Dentist Away

A Smile A Day Keeps the Dentist Away

Our teeth go through a lot in their lifetime. If we live past the age of 70, it is likely that we will have lost the majority of them through natural decay; the lifespan of a tooth has not evolved in the same way as our general lifespan has, as the years have gone by and been kinder to us.

There are so many ways to treat our teeth the way that they deserve to be treated, yet many of us rarely do it (only half of us admit to keeping up a regular flossing routine). So what can we do to ensure our smile never fades?

Floss

So as previously stated, only half of us floss. The main reason that a number of us don’t is because we haven’t been brought up with it as habit (i.e. shown to us as a positive thing to do by parents or another figure that we would’ve looked up to as children), so it is imperative that if you have a child, you show them what to do when they are age-appropriate. Flossing has evolved so that you don’t even have to rely on the traditional dental-string now to get in between your teeth – interdental brushes such as those made by Wisdom and TePe are gaining in popularity due to dentist recommendations, and come in different sizes to ensure a more thorough clean than traditional floss could ever provide.

Brush Properly

It may sound incredibly patronizing, as it is something that we have been doing every day for years, but do you know how to brush your teeth? Have a quick search online for how best to do it. You may be thinking that the whiter your teeth are is a good indicator of how good your brushing technique is, but the colour of your teeth isn’t the main thing that dentists are looking for to show that you are up keeping a good routine. There are things to help you get your teeth looking whiter if brushing isn’t helping – look for reviews on the best teeth whitening strips for a quicker solution if any whitening toothpaste that you have invested in isn’t working as well as you had hoped.

Drink More

Certain drinks stain – certainly the notable ones like coffee, tea and wine – and not just your carpets if spilt. They can cause marks to appear on teeth that may be hard to get off, if you can get them off at all without cosmetic help. If you drink more water, not only will this help with your general health and wellbeing, but it is also extremely good for your teeth. Any food debris that you have floating around your mouth will be washed away with water without causing any other damage, and it will help your mouth to keep lubricated with saliva. As gross as this sounds, saliva is actually your friend – it contains enamel-strengthening enzymes which fight against tooth decay and help to keep your mouth a happy one.

Let’s Get Adulting! Five Things You Must Invest In

Let’s Get Adulting! Five Things You Must Invest In

Time is ticking on and at some point we’ll all have to admit that we’re – gasp! – real live adults. As you grow up, your priorities tend to change – you decide that staying out until 4am every Friday night isn’t your idea of how to have a good time any more, and you also decide that the sort of moody bad boy who always used to win your heart really isn’t worth your energy. The rest of your life starts to change too as your finances change and you decide what you should be spending money on these days. Here are five things that you should start to invest in as you get older…

Skincare

Noticing fine lines around your eyes? Aren’t we all? It feels disastrous but at the same time they’re a little bit like war wounds: we’re proud of them because they demonstrate that we’ve grown up over the years it’s taken to get those fine lines, and that we’ve become wiser as well as older. That doesn’t mean that we aren’t going to moisturise the heck out of them until they start to fade. Make sure that you keep your skin hydrated with a good quality moisturiser – you want it to glow, after all – and wear night cream and eye cream every night.

Staple Clothing Items

Boots, bags, jeans and jackets: those are the clothes items that you need to start investing in because once you find the perfect ones, believe me – you’re going to want them to last forever. Choose great quality materials like buttery leather and well-sewn thick denim with a little stretch in it so that you can stay comfortable.

Furniture

If you’re starting to outgrow your Ikea phase it’s time to invest in furniture that doesn’t come in flatpacks and require you to ask your friend’s boyfriend to come over with his screwdriver to put it all together for you. Start picking out items from Plum Goose or other sites that tempt you – add some beauty and style to your home, and pick furniture that will last the test of time.

Your Friends

Your most important commodity is time, so you should spend it on what matters most to you, which should of course be people. Maintaining your friendships as you get older requires much more time and work than it did when you were at school, so it’s crucial that you overcome that end of the week tiredness to peel yourself out of bed and meet your best friend on Saturday morning for brunch. If you don’t have kids yet, then you might do one day, and it’ll be an even bigger test of your friendship and time – make sure you don’t fall at the first hurdle.

Your Future

More than anything you should be investing in yourself. You are the most precious thing in your life and your future should be something that you focus on. Take classes for further qualifications in your chosen field and put in the extra hours at work, or take relevant volunteering or interning placements. It may be tough in the meantime, but investing in your future will be the best thing you ever do.

You have probably seen those cute little egg-shaped lip balms in the checkout line at stores, but have you ever given them a try? They provide tons of moisture and nourishment to lips without the weird chemical ingredients found in many other balms. Plus their cute packaging and yummy flavors will make you want to collect them all!

EOS stands for Evolution of Smooth, which says a lot about the brand. EOS lip balms actually heal and soften your lips instead of just slathering a moisturizer on the surface. Their combination of nourishing, natural ingredients make your lips kissably smooth without any adverse effects. Shea butter smoothes, vitamin E nourishes with antioxidants, and a combination of olive, jojoba, and coconut oils add moisture to your lips.

The best part about EOS lip balms is that they are made of 100 percent natural, 95 percent organic ingredients. This brand offers only the best to put on your body! You can feel good about choosing EOS balms because they contain zero gluten, parabens, petroleum, or phthalate. These certified organic products ensure you never have to worry about putting things you can’t pronounce into or on your body.

Aside from their revolutionary formula, EOS balms are just plain fun! They come in lots of sweet, unique flavors like Strawberry Sorbet, Honeysuckle Honeydew, and Blueberry Acai. EOS releases limited edition seasonal flavors throughout the year, too, so there is always something new to try. The fun round packaging looks cute on your makeup table and is the perfect size to fit in even the smallest bag. These balms are a great way to take moisture on the go! The twist-off cap and domed balm make application super easy. EOS balms also glide on clear and have a smooth, never sticky formula so you can swipe some on quickly whenever you need a boost of softness.

You can purchase easily on Amazon.

Hands-On Foot Health

Hands-On Foot Health

Whether you find yourself standing up all day – maybe as part of your daily work – or constantly walking, it’s important to keep your feet healthy. Indeed, developing aches and getting sore feet might seem like an almost inevitable chore of your daily activities. But it isn’t! Standing up or walking regularly should never be synonymous with feet pains and troubles. If there is a pain, there is a remedy to fight it. Consequently, following a previous article that was looking at helping your body to better cope with a constant standing position, it’s time to zoom in and explore the real foot of the problem. Discover a little more about the three most common foot health issues.

Say No To Blisters

If you have once already bought a pair of new shoes and complained about the painful blisters they gave you, then you need to know that blisters don’t have to be part of the famous breaking in battle. Understanding where blisters come from and using preventive methods will help you to feel like walking on clouds in your new stilettos! This starts by ignoring vanity and making sure that the shoes fit, even if you have to buy a size bigger or larger than normal. How much your feet rub and catch against your shoes will depend of natural foot sweat. You can manage this phenomenon with antiperspirants. If you want to completely eliminate frictions, you can look for blister-prevention sticks and anti-chafing products to lubricate your skin.

Avoid Painful Bunions

Bunions are one of the most common foot ailments. But what are bunions, you may ask if you have never encountered this distortion in the foot structure, and here is the explanation. A bunion pushes your big toe laterally towards the second toe, which creates a noticeable bump on the side of the foot, just at the base of the big toe. This happens because the alignment of your bones has been disturbed and the first metatarsal bone is moved away. As a result, the pain can affect the way you walk and your entire posture. A weak posture naturally facilitates the apparition of bunions. Thankfully, you will find sturdy bunion splints that help to maintain your big toe straight and correct the issue. In extreme case, the bunion can be corrected surgically too.

No More Dried Feet

Dried feet, cracked and fissured heels are extremely common and tend to touch predominantly people who stand for long hours. However lack of moisture and improper footwear are also common causes besides more serious ones such as diabetes and thyroid disease. They are more than simply unattractive – which could be annoying enough -, as they can lead to serious pain and infections if the crack extends to all skin layers. Yet, cracked feet are also very easy to cure with simple home remedies. Soaking your feet in warm soapy to help soften the skin will facilitate the removal of the dead skin cells with a scrubbing stone. For best results you can finish the treatment by applying a generous coat of coconut or olive oil to moisturise your skin.
