Water on Frozen Windshield. Stupid Tip of the Day:

By Tia Cristy

Water on Frozen Windshield. Stupid Tip of the Day:

So, the ice is pretty thick on the windshield and you are in a rush. You may have hear water gets it off quickly, but was that warm water? Hot water? No! Getting ice off the windshield takes cold water.

Cold water will take off the ice, where warm or hot water could break or crack your windshield.

A good way to get the ice off quickly is, put the cool water in a spray bottle and spray the windshield in sections, while using a scraper to get off the clumps of ice. Depending how cold it is, wetting the whole windshield at once could freeze up quickly. So de-icing in sections, may sound time consuming, but can actually be a whole lot faster.

Adding rubbing alcohol to the water, will speed up the process faster, but use caution, rubbing alcohol is flammable and mark the spray bottle with it’s ingredients, so you don’t use it on other things, where the alcohol could not be helpful or may even be harmful.

Cold Wind can Trigger an Ear Infection. Tips on Triggers.

By Tia Cristy

(recap) Tips on Triggers: A cold wind can trigger an ear infection no matter what age you are.

Pelting weather going sideways hitting hard in the face and head; this is a reason for the invention of ear muffs and headbands that cover the ears. The wind can zip right into the ear applying pressure; then add in a sleet, rain or snow with it and now moisture has gotten into the canal. This is the worst.

It can create a very painful situation. So if it is a windy, cold, wet day, and you don’t have access to the ear coverings, here’s a tip. Get 2 cotton balls, add petroleum jelly or olive oil onto the cotton and place in each ear. Don’t shove in ear canal, place gently to just cover the canal. (be sure to assist your child if using this technique on them and remind them not to push it into the ear while it’s in there) The jelly or oil will keep the cotton ball from getting wet from the weather and the cotton will cover the opening so wind won’t pressurize your ear drums.

Preparing for Extreme Cold.

By Tia Cristy

Preparing for Extreme Cold.

The temperatures across the country are dipping down to record lows, in some areas. Extreme cold, causes some extreme precautions. Being prepared for the bitter cold, is like being prepared for a big storm, even if there is no rain, snow or wind in the forecast; it’s best to be ready for emergency action.

As like a storm, be prepared with foods. Have plenty of foods that don’t need refrigeration or cooking. Stock up on water. And, if you have kids, make sure you have what they need to eat.

Be prepared for any power outages. Have candles, first aid, fire extinguisher, batteries, battery radio, a fully charge phone for emergency, etc.

With it being extreme cold, there are some other things to have ready. Another heating source is necessary, like a fire place or space heater to use with a generator or knowing where the closest shelter is. In some cases, the power won’t go out but the heat source will. So make sure you have plenty of oil or propane if that is your heat source.

Have plenty of blankets and clean clothes to layer on if necessary. I of course, like those instant heat packs, that last up to 8 hours. They are good in an emergency heat loss situation.

Other things to have close by, are shovel, rock salt, extra fuel, games for the family, flash lights, lighters or matches (I recommend both, lighters can have a hard time lighting in the frigged cold).

Be safe and warm when experiencing extreme low temperatures. Check on neighbors and animals. If you need to go outside in sub-degree temps, expose yourself to the cold, for less than 10 minutes at a time, and recover, at least 10 minutes at a time.

Make a Snow Day Even Better. Quickie:

By Tia Cristy

Quickie: Make a Snow Day Even Better.

Depending on where you are located, you could actually be waking up to snow, today. Make a snow day even better for you and the kids, by adding food coloring to water bottles. Add a few drops of color with water into a water bottle and punch a small hole in the cap with a thin nail. If you have old hair coloring bottles or mustard bottles; these work fantastic.

Get the kids bundled up and give them the colored water. All you do, is squeeze the bottles of color, to spend the day “drawing” in the snow.

Natural Relief for ADHD Symptoms

Natural Relief for ADHD Symptoms

Problem: Hi Tia, I was recently diagnosed with ADHD. I am not sure about the medications. Is there natural remedies for that, that you know of?

Tip from Tia: Hi,well first off, I hope you are feeling alright. Second, I am not a doctor, so you need to talk to your doctor about other options with ADHD. Now, the information that I can give, is only to be considered as helpful opinion, not medical advice.

Recent studies have shown a belief that there is a link between ADHD and vitamin D deficiency. I would suggest, that you request a blood test on your vitamin D levels from your family doctor. If you are low, the doctor can give you a high dose, over time to balance you back out.

Also, another way you may get some relief from symptoms could be a 20 minute soak in Epsom salts, daily. ADHD, has also been believed to be linked to an overgrowth of yeast and a deficiency in magnesium. The soak; whether you do a full body or just a foot soak, will give you your daily value of magnesium. It’s been shown to balance the body. And, in the least case scenario, it will be a 20 minute relaxation time, that is beneficial to soothe your symptoms.

And, like anything linked to yeast overgrowth, watch your sugar in take. Yeast feeds off sugar and multiplies. So, if it is true ADHD is linked to yeast overgrowth, cutting out sugar will have a multitude of benefits in relieving your symptoms of ADHD.

Keep your doctor in the loop, of all that you are doing and follow his instructions, if you are on medications. In some cases, stopping medications without the doctors knowledge or instructions, could result in other problems.
