The Power of Mint on Your Face and Body

thIn a previous post on Tips from Tia, the benefits of lavender oil was tackled but today, the spotlight is on mint. You may know this essence best as a flavour of tea, gum or Tic-Tac considering that it gives off a natural soothing sensation and fragrance. That’s also why it’s commonly used in toothpaste. According to Tooth Wisdom U, the usual toothpaste being mint flavoured doesn’t necessarily affect its mouth cleaning properties and even mentioned several other flavours of toothpaste. It’s just that mint really has that soothing and refreshing taste which feels nicer after every brush. The ‘coolness’ attached to mint not only applies orally, but visually as well.

Everyone knows mint as a popular colour given that it’s ‘cool’ to look at and not heavy on the eyes. A blog post from Tootsa highlighted how nice it appears when paired with melon and few will argue against the intrinsically appealing colour combination. With all that being said, this familiar extract has so much more other uses than just a breath freshener or for a colour basis in fashion. Mint has numerous beneficial properties which is why it’s used by many self-conscious individuals in their beauty regimes. In this tips sharing session, let’s learn about the power of mint when applied to your face and body. Let’s start with your hair. Did you know that mint can make your hair stronger?

The Experts’ Column enumerated several benefits of mint and mentioned that a solution made of boiled mint leaves together with celery will strengthen your locks and even help in preventing hair loss. Create your own minty hair wash by boiling the leaves in water for 20 minutes, straining the herbs, and rinsing your hair with the liquid after it becomes lukewarm. If you or someone you know has head lice, it’s also worth noting that mint can help solve the problem given that it acts as a natural insect repellent. Depending on the degree of infestation, apply mint oil on your hair for up to four times each week, gradually lessening the frequency as the condition gets better.

Moving down to the face, you can use mint paste to get rid of blackheads. Style Craze explained how and stated that you should apply the paste and let it stay on your face for at least 15 minutes. Afterwards, wash it completely with warm water. For those suffering from acne, mint will also serve as natural remedy. A paste made from mint leaves and rose water applied regularly to the face for 20 minutes will help treat the condition or prevent it from returning. If you’re face just needs maintenance for that youthful glow, create a mint-based toner or astringent by boiling mint leaves in water.

Additionally, mint essence has components that can tighten pores and you can achieve this effect by scrubbing your face with a mixture recommended by India Times which is made of crushed mint leaves and honey. Face masks containing the ingredient will help keep your face feeling cool and soft as well. Bride Everyday shared different methods of making your own mint face mask which varies depending on your skin type.

As for the body, one surefire way to hydrate and moisturise your skin is to mix oats in mint juice and using the concoction as a body scrub. The combination of oats which brushes off dead skin cells and mint which soothes your skin will leave you revitalized after each bath!

Lastly, you can eliminate cracked heels through mixing boiled mint leaves in a tub of warm water and soaking your feet in it. Notice how soft the soles of your feet feel after doing this ritual. Now that you know several benefits of mint from head to toe, it’s time to consider this ingredient more when choosing your beauty products. Seeing as it’s all natural, it’s a bonus not having to worry about any side effects.

These are just some of the benefits of mint on your face and body, and there are so much more you can do with this essence. If you have additional tips to share regarding mint, do share your beauty regimen through your comments!

Sore Muscles After Your Workout? Try These Effective Remedies

Sore Muscles After Your Workout? Try These Effective Remedies

Whether you’ve been for a run or to a spin class, a workout can make you feel better than ever. You’ll feel stronger, more energized and one step closer to achieving your fitness goals. But there is something else you might gain from your workout too that isn’t so rewarding. An extensive workout can cause your muscles to become stiff and sore. This doesn’t usually happen straight away and can take a few days to develop. Sore muscles can cause pain and discomfort, while also affecting your mobility. This can stop you from being able to continue working out until you have recovered. While it’s difficult to avoid getting them, there are things you can do to reduce the pain.

Have a warm bath

Having a warm bath after your workout can help to relieve your sore muscles and the pain they cause. This is because the heat produced by the water increased blood flow and can improve your circulation. It can also promote relaxation which encourages your tight muscles to loosen up. In addition to using warm water, there are other things you can add to your bath to boost its effectiveness. Lavender and eucalyptus oils can make you feel even more relaxed and help to ease your pain. You can also use sea salts to reduce swelling for additional relief.

Do some gentle stretches

Stretching might feel like the last thing you want to do when your body is sore. But it can be extremely beneficial. Your muscles can feel tight and restricted when they start to recover from your workout. This can increase the amount of soreness you experience. But by stretching, you can loosen your muscles and relieve this tightness. This should then give you some relief from the pain. So no matter where you might be feeling sore, look on Youtube for stretching video tutorials. This will ensure you target the affected area and get relief sooner rather than later. You can also ask your personal trainer or the staff at your gym for their stretching recommendations.

Wear a compression sleeve

You might think that compression sleeves are only needed by people who require additional support after a sprain or injury. However, while there is some truth to this, it is not the only function a compression sleeve has. When you wear these devices after a tough workout, they have been found to reduce muscle soreness. This is because they can help to increase blood flow to certain areas which can aid recovery. They can also help you to avoid inflammation. So look online for an ankle, wrist or knee support sleeve which you can put on after each workout. Choose the most suitable option based on which areas you experience the most pain in. You should also consider wearing compression clothing after your workouts to reduce sore muscles even more.

If you often experience sore muscles after a workout, these remedies should provide you with some much-needed relief. The sooner your muscles recover from their pain and discomfort, the sooner you can get back to your fitness regime. So take what you have learned and enjoy having less pain to deal with.

Upgrading Your Home – Where To Invest Your Hard-Earned Cash

Upgrading Your Home – Where To Invest Your Hard-Earned Cash

No matter how long you live in a place, there is always something more that you want to do it. And over time it becomes necessary to make a few upgrades. But home ownership is also expensive. The kind of things that you need to upgrade won’t come cheap. If you’re not looking to sell anytime soon, you might be better off choosing upgrades that make your life more comfortable. It’s not just about adding profit to your place! If you want to invest your hard-earned cash on your home, why not try one of these upgrades?

Heating And Air Conditioning

While we all accept that these services are essential to our homes, not all of us consider upgrading the systems we have. However, it can be a good way to reduce the running cost of your home. Old boilers and dirty air con filters push the cost of electricity and gas higher and higher. And if they haven’t been regularly serviced, you may be risking an expensive repair bill. Have a look at websites like www.rockfordheating.com to see what your options might be. Replacing old heating or air con systems can ensure your family stay safe and healthy.

Windows And Doors

Over the years, wooden window frames and doors can weaken, warp, and even rot. Nothing lasts forever, so have a close inspection of your windows and doors. They are designed to keep the cold out and to ensure your home and family are secure and safe. If they’re no longer up to the job, it’s time to get them replaced. Modern standards of doors and windows are better and more secure. They may even keep more of the street noise and sun glare out of your home.

Wiring And Plumbing

Old houses are beautiful and elegant. They are architecturally elegant and help retain a positive memory of ages past. But original wiring and plumbing can be dangerous for you and your family. If you haven’t got the latest electrical systems supporting your modern appliances, you may be risking a fire. Have a look at websites like http://www.oldhouseweb.com/how-to-advice/electrical-issues-in-old-houses.shtml to find out what you can do. Pests over the years can chew and damage old wiring. And some old water pipes can contain harmful metals and contaminants. Make sure your electrical and plumbing systems are up to modern life with a complete replacement.

Chimneys And Roofs

It’s not often that we think about the roof. We can’t see it from the inside, and we rarely look up as we approach our own front door. Most roofs have a lifespan of just twenty-five years. Older roofs can start to weather and no longer provide the waterproofing your home needs. If you live in an area with cold winters, it’s worth upgrading your home insulation to prevent heat escaping here.

Have your chimney examined by a professional. If you use it, it should be swept every year. Some chimneys can be structurally damaged by storms. It’s important for safety that this is repaired urgently. A modern replacement may be possible. What will you upgrade in your home this season?

Risk-Free Ways to Remove Unwanted Tattoos

Remember the moment you decided to get a permanent tattoo and thought it was the best decision of your life? At that point it might have been, but fast forward a few years later, it certainly doesn’t seem so wise after all. Well, there’s no use crying over spilt milk…Or is there? In the last couple of years, removing tattoos by a laser tattoo removal machine or simply make them less visible with cosmetics has become  possible. So if you’re looking for a safe way to remove unwanted ink, perhaps you should rely on some of these methods:

Camouflage It
If you’re still not ready to finally say goodbye to your ink or you’re just looking for a temporary way to conceal your tattoo, then perhaps it’s better to camouflage your tattoo rather than try and permanently remove it. Not only will it save you a fair amount of time and energy, but it’ll also keep your wallet thicker. Try special makeup products and techniques which allow you to cover up your ink temporary. This is a great solution if you’re planning on attending a formal event, going on an interview or need to cover up during your working hours.
Cover Up!
Whether it’s a relationship gone bad, an idol you overgrew or simply a style you no longer fancy, there’s a simple way to turn your unwanted ink into something more desirable. This is by far the best solution for all those inked souls who wish to preserve their tattoos but regret their previous works of art. A simple cover up tattoo allows you to turn your tattoo into a different design and finally move away from your past. Of course, depending on the size, colour and other similar aspects of the tattoo, it might require a few sessions.

Salabrasion and Dermabrasion

If you’re not willing to rely on professional tattoo removal and wish to try out some DIY alternative methods, then salabrasion is just the thing for you. This method originated in the Middle East, in ancient times, as a method of rubbing a salt solution onto your skin, heating and scraping it in the process. Of course, this will lead to skin damage and scarring and no one can actually vouch for its effectiveness. On the other hand, dermabrasion is the surgical version of this method where you’re given a numbing solution and then sanded down until the epidermis with the tattoo is gone. It also results in scarring and doesn’t guarantee 100% removal.
Cryosurgery
Another method of removal comes in a form of cryosurgery, a procedure in which liquid nitrogen is applied to your tattoo, freezing and burning it off in the process. Chemical peels are also used for peeling away tattoos, but these two methods are known to be quite painful and also don’t guarantee maximum results.
Laser Removal

In the last couple of years, technology has advanced in such a manner that most people nowadays are relying on laser tattoo removal, as it’s known to be the most effective and successful method of removing ink. This system sends short, bright pulses of light directly onto the tattooed parts of the skin, leaving the surrounding skin intact. This has been known as the safest form of tattoo removal and has been praised by many. Of course, the amount of treatments can vary, depending on the skin type, colour and size of the tattoo.

Whether you regret the style or the purpose of the tattoo, you’re seeking new employment with a strict no-tattoo policy or you just had a bad reaction to the ink, you probably want to make your tattoo a little less permanent. Nowadays, removing unwanted ink has become easier than ever and there’s a wide range of solutions for everyone who wishes to remove, conceal or redo their ink.
