There’s also a lot to get your head around. You’re no longer just responsible for you. Keeping your baby safe is now your priority. But, how do you go about it? STOP SMOKING AND DRINKING

The moment you found out about your pregnancy, you should have stopped putting harmful things into your body. That includes alcohol and cigarettes. Everything you put into your body for the next nine months will go straight to your baby. If you continue with harmful behaviours, you put your baby at risk of all types of birth injuries. If you’re struggling to give up, there’s a lot of help out there. Don’t be afraid to admit you’re finding it hard! Take this opportunity to kick those habits for the long run. You’re going to need to quit smoking for good. Even once your baby is born, you put them at risk if you start up again! Not to mention the risk you put yourself at if you continue. Stay fit and healthy by cutting out the bad stuff!

GET TO GRIPS WITH VITAMINS

At most times in life, you shouldn’t need to take vitamins. When you’re pregnant, that changes. Learn what vitamins you should take to ensure you and your baby’s health. Growing a life is going to be a huge drain on your vitamin supply and could leave you feeling under the weather. Not to mention that you need to ensure your baby is getting everything they require. There are many pregnancy specific vitamins out there. Do your research to find out which you should take.

TAKE IT EASY

Overdoing things while you’re pregnant puts you and baby at risk. You may want to keep going until you’re unable, but it’s not a good idea. People won’t think any less of you for taking it easy. Get someone else to do the heavy lifting. They’ll be more annoyed to find out you’ve done it on your own! Don’t be afraid, too, to sit down when you feel the need. It’s important that both Mum and baby stay healthy! This is the one chance in your life where you’re free to be lazy. Make the most of it.

LOOK AFTER YOUR EMOTIONAL HEALTH

Being pregnant is an emotional time. Though it’s a joyous occasion, there’s also a lot of fear involved. Not to mention the fact that your hormones will be going mad. You may be experiencing emotions that you don’t understand. Take time to look after yourself. Get to grips with deep breathing, and try a little meditation. Remember, too, to treat yourself when you feel the need. Take an evening to yourself if you need to. It’ll make all the difference.

Transform Your Home Into a Soothing Sanctuary

Transform Your Home Into a Soothing Sanctuary

Your home is your safe place, your sanctuary from the world. When you’ve had a bad day at work or life has gotten a little stressful, your home should feel like your own little haven. It’s so important to get enough rest and relaxation, without it both your mental and physical health can suffer, so it’s more than just a luxury. Here are some of the ways you can turn your home into a soothing sanctuary.

Décor

Color can have a profound effect on the human brain. We respond emotionally to different colors on a subconscious level. You can tap into this by using colors that psychologists have shown to be soothing, especially in the areas of the home that you relax in most such as the bathroom, bedrooms and living room. Neutrals are always a good choice, or very light pastel blues, greens or lavender. Opting for a light shade will keep the space bright and airy which is what you want in your home. You might love how deep reds, blacks, and other bold colors look décor-wise. But they’re definitely not the most relaxing shades. It’s something to bear in mind next time you redecorate.

Furniture

There are certain pieces of furniture that it’s worth pushing the boat out for and spending the extra on. One of these is your bed. Since as humans we spend so much time sleeping and in bed, it doesn’t make sense to try and make savings here. A good mattress will support your weight, reduce painful pressure points and keep you at the right temperature. Memory foam, gel, and latex mattresses perform consistently better in independent tests compared with springs. So if yours is due for an update (this should be done every seven years), these are the materials to consider. Another piece of furniture to spend the extra on is your sofa. When you’re relaxing at home (and you’re not sleeping) chances are you’ll be on the sofa. It’s the perfect place to watch tv, read, nap and host guests, so it needs to be good quality. Cheaper models might look ok, to begin with, but won’t hold up as well over time and can become springy or sagging. If you have children, pets or both, leather might be your best bet since it can easily be cleaned and wiped down. Another piece of furniture you could invest in to turn your home into a soothing sanctuary is a massage chair. Zero gravity helps to give you the very best massage experience, so you could opting for a chair which offers a ‘zero gravity.’

Lighting

The best way to set the mood and ambiance at home is with the right lighting. Along with your main overhead light, you should have different lamps offering varying levels of brightness. You can do this by choosing a lamp with a variety of brightness settings, or by investing in ‘smart bulbs’ which allow you to control the brightness from your phone. You can adjust the brightness in a room depending on what you’re doing, whether it’s crafting, watching tv, eating or reading. That way you always have the perfect relaxing lighting which is neither too bright or too dim.

3 Tips to Keep Comfortable in 2017

3 Tips to Keep Comfortable in 2017

Comfort. It is something that we all desire. Thankfully nowadays we live in relative bliss compared to what our ancestors were in the last century, but are you missing out on something which could be massively contributing towards the life of luxury that you crave?

Keep warm

If you haven’t replaced your radiators in a while, or haven’t even considered that they might need replacing for efficiency, take a look at the current deals around. If you are constantly having to turn the heating up and leaving it on for a long time, it could be that your radiator isn’t the right size for your room, or isn’t pumping around as much hot water as it potentially could due to old age. It also pays to keep your furnace well serviced throughout the year so that you know it is providing the best possible heat management throughout your home. With heating service and installation becoming something that won’t even take up an afternoon, it’s definitely worth doing to provide comfort in the long run.

Keep cool

The great thing about seasons is that they provide us with different types of weather. If you’re lucky enough to live in a Southern state, they don’t affect you as much – but it is imperative that you have something to keep you cool. Comfort in warm weather is a necessity, and you shouldn’t skimp on getting an air conditioning unit or fan which provides you with the blast of cool air that you need. Not only will it keep you comfortable in the day, but a cooler room at night is better for your health and wellbeing.

Keep snug

There are some days when you just cannot leave your bed. Just you can not do it. Eventually we all have to, but it’s more a case of not wanting to move as it’s just so cozy. The recommended age for mattress replacement is just eight years – think about the last time you purchased a new mattress for yourself. A lot of us can’t. There are so many benefits to getting a new mattress, from better sleep patterns to helping improve your posture. Add to the comfort of it all by investing in a new duvet and pillow set, and adding some more cushions and throws for good measure. The added bonus of this is that they’ll look good as a decorative effect too – of course, you can say that this was the intention all along rather than extra coziness for naptime!

Whatever you choose to do in order to stay comfortable this year, make sure that it is an investment that lasts. This means that money spent on things which provide temporary comfort are completely moot; there’s no point in buying a cheap hand-held fan if you know that it’s going to break within a week. When you think about it logically, the big expense now may just prove to be frugal in the long-run (much better for your pocket, and better for the environment, too!)

So You’ve Had A Windfall: What To Splash Out On In Your Home

So You’ve Had A Windfall: What To Splash Out On In Your Home

If you’ve had a windfall, congratulations! Hopefully you’re saving most of it for a rainy day, or for your kids’ college educations or – more excitingly – the vacation of a lifetime. But when a lot of us get windfalls, we often think of improving our homes. Sure, there are debts to pay off, and things to save for – but our homes seem like worthwhile investments. Here are some changes you could possibly make to your home with your new windfall…

A New Couch

pexels-photo-27335Image source

Pros: We all spend a pretty sizeable amount of our lives on our couches, so why not make it as superhumanly comfortably as we possibly can? After all, you get what you pay for, and if you spend more than you usually would on a couch, you’ll probably get it back in how much comfort and happiness it gives you.

Cons: How much money should you spend on a couch really? It won’t increase the value of your house in any way, and it might encourage you to stay in too much and watch TV instead of going out and being active.

Air Conditioning

ceiling-fan-571309_960_720Image source

Pros: In the summer, good air conditioning is something that will turn your life from a nightmare into a dream. When it’s boiling outside, stepping into a cool house is truly balm for the soul. Being able to control the temperature of your home with the aid of a company like acpulse.com feels like a real privilege, especially when it’s uncomfortably warm outside and your windfall won’t quite stretch to installing a pool.

Cons: It’s still January, for starters. Do you really want to spend all your money on something that’s only going to be useful for part of the year?

A Bathroom Renovation

Pros: It will be heaven. Very little is more enjoyable than a perfect hot shower and a bathroom renovation can help to get you there. Plus, bathroom renovations are very appealing to people looking to buy houses – it could help you if you want to move onto a new place.

Cons: A lot of us have more than one bathroom, and if you only upgrade one of them then the rest of your family members might just get annoyed with you. Still, it might be worth it for your new twin sinks and shiny new shower with its perfect water pressure.

A New Bed

pexels-photo-145512Image source

Pros: There’s nothing that will improve your health better than getting a good night’s sleep as often as you can. A new bed – and new linens as well, with a considerably higher thread count – will make your back and neck less sore and achy, and will help you tackle life more easily after you’ve slept better at night.

Cons: Will you ever get out of your bed again if it’s even more comfortable than it already is? Being late for work might become the norm instead of the exception. More seriously, if you want to use your windfall to raise the value of your house, buying a new bed isn’t the solution.
