Taking Control Of Your Life And Succeeding

Taking Control Of Your Life And Succeeding

Do you ever feel that you’re just existing? Or that you’re going through the motions to keep everything together, but you’re not really living? It’s easy to get caught up in the busy details of modern life. There’s so much to do that you have no time to change anything or even think clearly. If you recognize these patterns, it’s time to take control once and for all and make some meaningful changes.

Clear Some Time

To make positive changes in your life, you have to stop for a moment. This can seem scary. It feels that if you take time away from your job or your grueling schedule, that things will fall apart. They won’t, and this is necessary.

Sit down for a few hours and think carefully about your life. Make a list of the all the good things and then move onto the things you would like to change. What is no longer working for you? What makes you feel unhappy, anxious, unfulfilled? What would your life look like if all those negative things no longer existed?

What Are The Things You Feel You Have No Control Over?

Often it’s the things that we feel we cannot change that limit our lives. For example, we may feel as though we can’t quit smoking, or we need a few glasses of wine to help us through the day. It might be that we feel unable to leave our job, though it makes us miserable. For some of us, it might be our anxiety or our anger that we’re unable to control. Being aware of these factors in our life is the first step to tackling them. Sometimes this is not something we can resolve alone and we may need some help. For example, if anger is a problem for you, anger management from John Arber or a similar therapist may help. Or, you may feel that talking your problems through with a friend or family member would be beneficial.

Whatever it is, identify those things you feel you cannot change. Work out why you can’t change them. Often this process can help us to feel less ‘stuck’. But reach out and find extra help if you need it. There are no problems that can’t be resolved.

Avoid Negative Triggers

If you’re struggling with certain aspects of your life, try to avoid negative triggers. For example, if you’re trying to lose weight, avoid situations that may test your willpower. Or, if you’re trying to reduce your stress levels, avoid toxic people who make you feel worse. Though you can’t remove every obstacle from your life, you can take steps to make things a little easier on yourself.

Establish Healthy Barriers

Often we feel compelled to do things even if we don’t want to. We may take on extra work from a colleague who is struggling. Or, we may agree to helping a family member, even if we’re pushed for time ourselves. If you find it difficult to say no, it’s likely that you don’t feel fully in control of your life. It’s important to understand that you are. Establishing barriers and putting your own health and well-being first, is healthy and necessary. It may feel difficult initially, but once you practice this, it will become easier in time.

Taking control of your life can seem impossible at first. But acknowledging the difficulties is the first step. Remember that there is a solution to everything. You just have to find it. And if you can’t, there will be someone who can help.

Boost Your Health By Making These Small Changes

Boost Your Health By Making These Small Changes

Our health is vitally important to us, but there are some things we do each day without even realising that could be hindering our health in some way. It may only be a small thing, but over a longer period, some of the things we do, eat or drink can have an adverse effect on our health. Of course, we all have to live a little and enjoy treats and life, but at the same time perhaps changing the way we do things or our habits would improve our health overall and make us ultimately feel much better. So I thought I would share with you some of the smaller changes you could make that could end up having a big impact on your health.

Give up smoking

Smoking is one of those things that can become a habit very quickly. Many people who smoke may have just started on a whim years ago and now feel like it is more of a comfort to them and find it difficult to stop. But I’m sure some of us are aware that smoking can cause damage to our health in the long term. So taking this habit and ditching it for good could be one of the best health decisions you make. Of course, it’s a decision only you can make yourself.

Embrace sobriety

Drinking alcohol for some can be something you do socially when you are out of the house on a night out. Some will drink quite a bit, and others won’t tolerate too much. But there are some people that could be drinking everyday of the week, perhaps in small or larger quantities. But excessive alcohol can cause damage to our health, and it’s important to understand whether you are drinking too much. Some people really embrace sobriety and others choose to give up midweek drinking, whatever you choose there is plenty of resources available on how to stop drinking that could be life changing.

Increase the amount of water you drink

Water is an excellent resource to boosting your health and wellbeing. Not only can it help rid your body of bad toxins naturally, but it can also improve your mood and energy levels. It can be hard to get into the habit of drinking more water, especially when we have so many options of carbonated and squash drinks. But water is a great way to feel better on the inside, and it can also show on the outside by improving your skin tone and condition.

Cut sugar from your diet completely

Sugar is in most foods these days. You may think it’s as simple as not eating biscuits and chocolates, but you will find sugar in ready meals, in yoghurt and natural sugars in fruit. But sugar can be bad for your health and our teeth, and it is something we can become addicted to without even realising. If you can, try and cut sugar from your diet or at least in the foods you are aware of it in and see how you feel after a few weeks.

I hope this has inspired you to make some small changes that could have a big impact on your health.

The Strains On Your Wallet That You Could Do Without

The Strains On Your Wallet That You Could Do Without

Finances don’t have to be a tricky thing. After all, it’s income vs. expenditure. It’s two items in a relationship, and you just need to ensure one has its head above the over. It’s not always that easy, especially when you’re running a family and the little purchases add up. Frankly, it might be that you’re not earning enough – but don’t worry. Let’s have a look at the strains on your wallet and finances and see if we can’t break them down.

16958703915_e4d043355c_z(source)

Firstly, I’d advise treating your money and finances with respect. It’s far too often that someone is awarded a credit card minutes before a splurge. Treat your credit card as a safety net, not something to reward yourself with. Use it to buy small essentials that are needed – food, petrol and water. Don’t use it to buy makeup, takeaway and video games! Also – ensure your credit cards are paid off on time as the fees and interest can create a huge strain on your finances, and it’s perhaps the most common form of debt one can fall into – and it’s a vicious cycle – you spend to live, then spend on your credit card, then spend to pay off the credit card meaning you need to use the credit card to see you through to your next paycheck. You’ll never be able to build savings that way, and you’ll have no-one to blame.

A practical solution may be to buy less and/or buy smart. This might not sound amazingly attractive, but you can save some serious cash so that your family can enjoy the good times out.

Tech runs our lives, and that’s ok – but it is so darn fragile! Paying over five hundred dollars for a new phone might seem like a necessary expense, but paying for repairs at one hundred dollars a time can be costly, especially if you multiply that with a few kids. Insure and protect your phone and in the worst case take it to someone like Forever Wireless who can get it fixed up with you having to file for bankruptcy.

Be careful about subscriptions as well. It might seem awesome to organize finance deals at fifty dollars a month to go with your Netflix and Comixology subscriptions, but this adds up, and you could find yourself paying out $200 a month purely on subscriptions! Madness. Regulate and budget your money so that the small monthly subscriptions do not sneak up on you!

Think of your finances as a virtual safety net for your family. Would you tear a monthly hole in that safety net just for short-term gain? Of course, you would not. You would not even consider it if it was a physical manifestation, so why tempt it? Keep track of those small strains as they can build up to be the kindling of a humongous and utterly unenjoyable bonfire.

It’s Common Sense to Check Your Senses

It’s Common Sense to Check Your Senses

With our lives being constantly on the go, it is hard to take some time for ourselves. And this is not just a couple of minutes sitting on your phone and catching up with social media – this means actually taking time to look after yourself and make sure that everything is as it should be.

Time is a funny thing. You will find with quite a few events that you think back to that you are surprised at either how long it seems since it has happened or feeling like you were there just last week, when actually it was years ago. So with that in mind – how long do you think it has really been since you last saw a dentist? When was the last time you went for a general health checkup? Is your prescription still the same – can you even remember what your optometrist looks like?

Eye See You

Your eyes and the sense of sight are arguably one of the most important things that anybody can have. We are living in a time where most of us have our faces in front of a screen of some sort every day, whether it be a computer, TV or your phone, and so our eyes are straining more than they should be doing on a daily basis in order to focus. Opticians are making their way into the online world now – check out www.specsnc.com for an example – and hopefully this will serve as a reminder to many that they need to go and get tested. We are able to pop in our prescription easily enough online to order glasses, but whether it is still in date or not is another issue … the recommendation is to get your eyes tested every one to two years dependent on your age.

Pearly Whites

Usually, especially with children, dental checks are recommended by dentists to be every 6 months. This can vary depending on the health of your teeth and gums – your next appointment could be up to two years away, or they may want to see you a lot sooner. Your teeth don’t naturally have a very long lifespan, and you will often find that people over the age of 50 don’t have all of the teeth that they had when they were 20 years old. Don’t assume that a simple brushing of them will do the trick – get to a professional ASAP if you can’t remember the last time you went. Some tooth diseases are discoverable only by x-ray and examination, so it’s always worth a trip.

Check Your Ticker

Think of your body as you would a car. Cars need to be cleaned, need fuel and need to be serviced every once in a while in order to function properly. Your body is much the same – and if you just read the last sentence and realised that you put more time and consideration into a vehicle than yourself, then it’s time to book in with the doctor … pronto.

Beauty Promises To Make And Keep In 2017

Beauty Promises To Make And Keep In 2017

pexels-photo-305555Image

We made it through the first month of 2017. Resolutions were made, which may or may not be dwindling. But now is the time to settle into a realistic and achievable beauty regime that will yield results.

80/20 Rule

Research shows that goals, objectives, and resolutions often fail because we take on too much too soon. In the first few days or weeks, we’re fired up and feel as though we could take on the world. But very soon our best intentions begin to dwindle. So, rather than going all out and setting unrealistic resolutions and expectations, try the 80/20 rule. The idea is that you eat healthily for roughly 80% of the time but allow yourself the odd treat. Set up a training plan but allow time to relax. Little and often or bit by bit is better than all or nothing. Because if the latter fails, you’re left with nothing.

Establishing Routines And Setting Intentions

It’s important to establish a healthy beauty regime. Even if you have one already, there’s a benefit to reviewing this and making changes. On average it takes around 66 days to form a habit. This varies, depending on the task. When something becomes a habit, this is the point at which is starts to feel automatic.

When establishing your regime, set a plan for the year. Work out what you intend to achieve and by when. If this is the year you decide to go for the plastic surgery you’ve been deliberating, do your research and make the decision. Always opt for board certified experts such as Belcara Health.

Commit To Skincare

Whatever else you do this year, commit to skincare. A simple routine is all it takes to maintain healthy, young-looking skin.

  • Remove your makeup every day without fail
  • Invest in a good moisturizer for your skin type
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Eat well and exercise
  • Quit smoking
  • Wear a suitable SPF sun lotion and protect against harmful rays

A Healthy Smile

One of the easiest beauty commitments is to prioritize dental health. Brush at least twice a day and invest in a good-quality electric toothbrush. The benefits over a manual brush are staggering. Add flossing to your daily regimen. Visit your dentist on a regular basis to fix any problems before they become an issue.

Inner Beauty

As well as investing in cosmetic or external changes, make sure you focus on your inner beauty. Feeling stressed, sleep-deprived, or depressed has a negative impact on your overall health and this all impacts on your appearance. Whereas, feeling alert, relaxed and calm, has the opposite effect. Spend some time this year focusing on how you feel. Cut unnecessary stressors from your life and find strategies to manage anxiety. Take up yoga, meditation or tai chi which will exercise the mind and body.

Now that the year is underway, it’s time to settle down and establish a few sensible beauty regimes. Set achievable and realistic targets and remember the 80/20 rule. Beginning to form new habits will be beneficial over time, and you will begin to notice the changes. So, start now, and your future self will thank you for it.
