Don’t Let Your New Home Drain Your Finances

Don’t Let Your New Home Drain Your Finances

A lot of people are under the impression that when they buy their first home, the money troubles are over. This does make quite a lot of sense. After all, if you can afford to buy a home, you will have something that you own in this world. It can make things easier if anything does go wrong with your finances because you’ll have something to fall back on which is useful. At the same time, though, you need to be aware that buying a home can lead to more issues with money. You might even find that it causes you to end up in a debt, as has been the case with home buyers before. We are brought up to believe that buying a home is an affordable possibility. But, if you’re not careful your new home could quickly become a huge drain. Here’s how to avoid that situation.

Get It Checked

Before you even think about purchasing a home, you need to get it thoroughly checked out. It’s important that you know everything about the property from the state of the wiring to the plumbing and how old the boiler is. Homeowners with houses that need work tend to use tricks to get you to skip over these checks and buy without thinking. For instance, there’s the infamous ‘other interested party’ that have put in an offer. Or, who is looking for a quick buy? Usually, there is no other buyer at all. Instead, it’s just a mind trick to get you to buy without thinking or checking. Don’t forget, it’s your responsibility to make sure there are no issues with the home before you buy. Nine times out of ten a survey is going to show no serious issues. But you still need to make sure otherwise, you can end up with a home that isn’t worth the ground it’s built on.

Do The Calculations

It’s not just repairs that can make a home an expensive possibility. You need to think about mortgage repayments as well. They can be a huge drain on your finances to the point where you find yourself struggling to pay off the home each month. Usually, mortgage payments are expensive if you’ve bought the house with a small deposit. To avoid falling into this trap, it’s worth using a mortgage amortizaton calculator. By doing this, you can find out exactly what you will be able to afford and what you might be expected to pay. That way, you won’t fall into this expensive trap.

Plan It Out

Last but not least, you need to think about your plans after you purchase the property. No one buys the property and then leaves it as it is. Some people will make extensive remodels while others will invest in redesigns. That’s perfectly fine as long as you have the money saved to pay for it. Don’t ever think about using a loan for these type of changes. No sooner have you taken one out, you’ll be hit by an expensive property repair that you won’t be able to afford.

What’s Shadow Root Effect?

By, Tia Cristy

What is Shadow Root Effect?

Have you ever had an amazing haircut or color? I have. With my career, I’ve had to travel a lot. Years ago, I went to a salon, Jean Raymond and had an amazing hair experience. All this time later, I popped in the other day and surprisingly found the same kind of remarkable talent I did all those years ago.

Brantley greeted me with a sweet smile as he had me sit in his chair. His southern twang makes him instantly endearing, but finding out about his early career in NYC and his move to the Philadelphia area, makes him cutting edge. He decided to go with the trendy technique of root shadowing on my blonde locks. When it came to the cut. He didn’t feel the need to over-cut my hair, like some stylist have done in the past. He listened to what I was trying to achieve and made a conscious decision that he didn’t need to over-exhaust himself or appear dramatic in his snips for me to receive exactly what I was hoping for. And when it came to my blowout, there are no words!

So, what is Root Shadowing or Shadow Root effect?

It’s a great coloring technique, bringing a crown of essence, literally, to the hair. The hair will maintain a dark crown with lighter or bolder colors down the shaft. It brings new life to seasoned trends of ombres or balayage by starting with a traditional root application and then pluck or sweep the color in. This effect makes the new growth blend in smoother and more natural, than having a blunt line. Don’t get me wrong, the options don’t have to be neutral at all. Some people are going very dramatic in their shadows with an inch or so, of shadow. Pair the shadow with a vivid color, and the results can be over-the-top fabulous.  Whether you are looking for a natural look or an iconic statement, shadowing results can be extraordinary.

Who has been seen with root shadowing?

Celebs like Juliane Hough, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry and Blake Lively have rocked the shadow with not just blonde locks, but with red, pinks, purples and greys.

Is it easy to maintain?

Absolutely! And depending on the shadow length you are trying to achieve, touchups aren’t needed as often as regular color applications.

Thanks to Brantley, Erik and Jean Raymond for the beauty treatment. Brantley is taking on new clients at this time. If you are visiting or living in the Philadelphia, Pa. area, setup an appointment now. Haircuts start at $50 and new clients who reach out to Jean Raymond today, can get a $10 off coupon!

How to Choose the Perfect Eyewear

By Guest Blogger Diana S.

How to Choose the Perfect Eyewear

Glasses are cool. To those in the back row, I’ll repeat louder: GLASSES ARE COOL.

Except for being essential to all of us who, obviously, can’t see properly, they are also known to give a more sophisticated look, intellectual if you will. People usually perceive other people with glasses as smart, well-read and educated. If you’re scared that you’ll be seen as nerdy, come on. You’re not in third grade anymore. Even if you are, don’t listen to them. Glasses are cool!

Now, picking the right glasses can be very stressful due to several reasons. First and foremost, the price. Nowadays, glasses can be inexplicably expensive, especially if they’re branded. Don’t fall for the price. Pricier doesn’t necessarily mean better, and trust me on this one since I’m writing this with the help of my very affordable eye friends.

Now that we’ve got this covered, there’s another issue: the way they look (not the way they help you look). When it comes to this, you need to take into consideration your looks, your style, and your personality. Most of us only have one or two pairs; so, you don’t want to feel self-conscious about them every day. As far as the style part is concerned, you have to decide on your own. For a more technical help, keep reading.

Here is some advice on how to choose the perfect type of glasses according to the shape of your face.

square-faceSquare face

People with a square-shaped face should go for glasses that soften the overall looks; so, you won’t be wrong if you choose round or oval ones. This creates a contrasting effect that works fantastic. The frame design is entirely up to your taste, but you might consider a thinner, light-colored frame.

Round face

Now, this one is the complete opposite. For the round face, go for rectangular or square glasses since they too will create a contrast here. Protip: Try finding bold, larger frames to create the effect of a longer, slimmer face.

oval-faceOval face

Here, you can experiment with geometry, but make sure they are a bit wider than the area around your eyes and forehead. Unusually shaped glasses, such as hexagonal ones, can do wonders for an oval face. However, find the balance and don’t go over the top with too big glasses.

heart-shaped-faceHeart-shaped face

If you have a heart-shaped face, you can really go wild with experimenting. The only thing to bear in mind is to try and create a balance between the width of your forehead and your chin. Other than that, you can wear both round and softer, rectangular frames. Also, you might want to consider bold colors and some interesting decorations on the top part.

diamond-faceDiamond face

Shine bright like a diamond! The joke was inevitable. When it comes to a face in the shape of a diamond, you people can pull off what nobody else can. You know iconic cat-eye glasses that retro superstars used to wear? Well, you can too, since you have just the perfect face for them. You shouldn’t be afraid of colors, patterns, and decorations since that can only make the look better. Just go easy on the narrow ones. You can check out the models that Zoom Optics offer, and you surely won’t be disappointed.

As you will soon be able to see with your new glasses, these are only some general guidelines for making the ideal choice of eyewear based on the shape of your face. However, these aren’t strict rules; so, you can feel free to combine, try out, and of course, choose the ones you are most comfortable with.
