Why Sleep is Essential to Your Overall Health

Why Sleep is Essential to Your Overall Health

Not sleeping enough can be extremely detrimental to our overall health. If you have even spoken to an insomniac, for example, someone who is at the extreme end of sleep deprivation, they will tell you have debilitating it feels. From being tired all the time to feeling sick, not to mention the negative effects on their mental health. However, you do not need to be a full-blown insomniac to suffer the negative health consequences of not getting enough sleep. This can happen to anyone who does not get at least seven hours every night. Here are a few ways not getting enough sleep can affect you:

Weight Gain

Did you know that by not sleeping enough, you can actually gain weight? There is a link between obesity and reduced sleep cycles, in the sense that by feeling tired, a person is more likely to choose negative life choices, such as overeating. If you are tired, you may well eat more sugary or fatty foods to boost energy levels, leading to obesity. Additionally, being overweight may mean you wake up hungry and therefore need to snack during the night. And this has a snowballing effect.

Your Concentration

Sleep deprivation will have a severe effect on your concentration, productivity, and cognition levels. This clearly affects you in almost every aspect of your life, from work and home to your relationships with people.

Heart disease

If you don’t sleep enough, you are not giving your body the chance to regulate its blood pressure. High blood pressure is a major contributing factor to heart disease. If you can sleep more, you will reduce your blood pressure, and this will also affect conditions such as sleep apnea, which will help you sleep better and deeper.

Depression

Instances of depression are definitely linked to lack of sleep. Not sleeping enough will make you feel run down, and over time, this will affect your mood, no matter how positive you may be. That means that sleep and mental health work together. Your brain needs to be switched off to help regulate your mood. People who suffer from depression may suffer from other conditions, such as drug or alcohol abuse. This may well be a coping mechanism, but this actually reduces sleep even more. A vicious cycle then rears its head. If you are stuck in a negative life cycle like this, then going to alcohol treatment centers may well help you solve the issue and improve your life in many ways.

Your Immune System

Have you ever noticed that you are more likely to get ill after a heavy weekend, or just simply when you have not slept properly? Well, when you are asleep, the body gets to work on repairing all the damage that has occurred to it over the day. It is where the immune system is strengthened. If you are not sleeping enough, even just an hour too little every night, over time, you will become more likely to fall ill from any sort of infection.

The Big Picture: How To Stop Compartmentalizing Your Health

The Big Picture: How To Stop Compartmentalizing Your Health

The modern way of thinking is that we’ve got to treat problem areas, but when we address components of our own health we can end up being too compartmentalized. The Western way of thinking is very regimented and breaks problems down, whether it is in terms of matters of the heads, heart, and organs but the Eastern way of thinking, specifically in Chinese medicine, is to view everything as connected. And it’s a very important mindset to get into. But how can we start to think of ourselves as an entire entity, rather than being parts of a whole?

Make Insecurities a Thing of the Past

One of the biggest problems we all have is these little insecurities. When there is a problem with something like our teeth, we can obsess over these things. But while dental services can certainly fix these little things, we have to remember that all of these little components add up to major insecurity in our lives. When we start to treat ourselves as an entire entity, rather than obsessing over something negative, we start to view ourselves in terms of the bigger picture. Big picture thinking is very important, and it’s one of the best ways to start addressing life and ourselves as a fully formed entity because we are.

Practice Thinking About Yourself as an Entity

We live in an age where we are physically under-stimulated, and mentally overstimulated. We must intentionally practice in order to get some equilibrium back to our lives. Checking in with yourself is something that has long been part of mindfulness practices, and it’s a very beneficial skill to learn. Checking in with yourself from head to toe, and addressing any niggling aches and pains, or if there are any overriding issues in an emotional sense will help you to get into this habit of connecting everything from top to bottom.

Recognize That Everything Is Connected

Part of the problem is that when we talk about health issues, they tend to be physical, emotional, or mental. Chinese medicine believes that it is all connected. And when you think about it, it is. A very good example is the physical stress you feel when you’ve been going through problems. If you don’t get enough sleep, this alone can wreak havoc on your physical and mental health. But sleep is one of those practices that you can either view as physical, mental, or both because it processes thoughts, but it also helps you to physically recover. And when we start to believe that there is a blockage in our lives, we could trace it back to something physical, or we could trace it back to something mental. When we start to realize that everything is connected, we will start to pay attention to everything.

Emotional health problems can stem from bad life decisions and physical health issues could stem from emotional problems as well. It’s important that we stop thinking about health as a very compartmentalized process. It is, in fact, all connected.

4 Simple Ways to Raise Your Property Value

4 Simple Ways to Raise Your Property Value

Currently, the housing market is entirely a seller’s market. This is perfect for anyone who is looking into selling their home! While it may be far easier for sellers to get more thanks to their house’s value, it’s still always best to look into ways to increase your property value even more. There is still the chance that you may wonder why isn’t anybody buying your property.  While the idea of working on your home in order to raise the value may sound counterproductive by having to spend money in the hopes of earning more money back. It’s entirely worth it and it doesn’t even need to be expensive at all!

Add sprinklers

The grass doesn’t always have to be greener on the other side. Having some sort of irrigation system in your lawn is not only going to make the grass and all the other planets look happy and refreshed, but it’s also going to massively help in increasing the value. Automated sprinklers aren’t very expensive to invest in, purchasing one that’s compatible with smart home technology will do wonders for increasing the value.

Add smart home technology

Smart homes aren’t just cool to look at and make your lives easier, but they have the power to boost the value of your home. When people think of smart homes, they immediately think of Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home, and other similar brands. While those are a part of having a smart home, it goes so much further than that.  There are a lot of other technology and brands that provide a smart home experience such as smart curtains, door locks, thermostats, fire alarms, carbon monoxide detectors, toilets, fridges, and so much more. Installation for smart home technology doesn’t even need to be expensive at all. Some of the products can be installed by yourself while others such as a smart door lock can be installed for free by the company’s providers.

Becoming energy efficient

Homebuyers want to purchase a home that’s not only eco-friendly but a home that is energy efficient. You’ll want to annually check your window seals as air may be creeping in. Older seals can not only cause your electric bill to go up but they can also damage the walls as well. You’ll want to make sure that there aren’t any cracks, broken seals, or anywhere questionable that air could be coming out of.  You’ll also want to look into Tile Roof Replacement, but the roof will greatly affect the house as well, this includes the temperature, but also check for any potential weather damage.

Increase the square footage

A sure-fire way to raise the property value would be through raising the square footage. Large homes are higher in demand, they’re also higher value, this is due to having more room. Homebuyers want to have sufficient space if they’re going to purchase a home. There are plenty of ways to increase the square footage, such as building a sunroom, adding a basement, or even something as affordable as adding a patio. Basements are often the most sought after as this is the best area for storage space and its best way to protect your family from bad weather such as tornadoes.

If you have ever experienced chronic pain or long term illness, you will know that pain is not something that is easy to live with. There’s no getting used to it, no matter how long it lasts. Medical professionals have invested hundreds of years’ worth of research into how to best relieve pain, and yet there are still unanswered questions when it comes to this area of medicine.

If you regularly experience pain due to injury, illness or a chronic condition, you might be in search of an alternative method of pain relief. Hospital-prescribed pain relief can be extremely helpful, but there are downsides, such as addiction and financial difficulty.

In today’s post, you will learn some natural ways to relieve pain that are said to work wonders for people all around the world.

1. CBD/Marijuana

Although a somewhat controversial subject, marijuana has been used for decades as a form of self-medication. Now, in some parts of the world, doctors are even able to prescribe marijuana-based products, and consumers can buy them in stores.

The cannabis plant has anti-inflammatory properties that can soothe aches and pains. Although it’s not for everybody, using CBD (an oil extracted from the cannabis plant) or traditional marijuana works wonders for some users with chronic pain. If you are concerned about how it might look to the people in your life, you don’t have to tell them! Your method of pain relief is private to you. You can invest in a “doob tubeâ€Â  that discreetly stores your marijuana in a simple case.  You might also want to use Delta 8 Vape Carts if you’re looking for a potent THC solution.

2. Massage

Massage is regularly sold as a spa-day kind of treatment, but in actual fact, massage has powerful healing properties for pain. Masseuses are able to correct postural issues over time, as well as improving lymphatic drainage, stimulating circulation and providing muscle relaxation – all of which can contribute to low pain overall.

3. Turmeric

Turmeric is a herb that is used medicinally for all sorts of ailments, including arthritis, IBS, menstrual cramps and skin problems. A powerful anti-inflammatory, turmeric can soothe irritated areas of the body if consumed daily in tea, tablet form, or in delicious recipes.

4. Gentle movement

There’s a well-known phrase: “Movement is medicine.†Gentle movement can be an antidote to things like rheumatoid arthritis, poor digestion, or an acute injury. Doing vigorous exercise is unlikely to help with chronic pain, but slow, controlled movement such as tai chi,  yoga or even walking can be a great natural pain remedy.

5. Physiotherapy

In a similar way to massage, physiotherapy can help solve acute problems, such as bad posture, pain after injury, or stiffness caused by illness. Working with a physiotherapist who can give you at-home exercises is always worth the investment if you experience large amounts of pain.

Final thoughts…

If you are struggling to find medical pain relief that works for you, why not try any of these five natural pain remedies? Always consult a physician before trying any of these natural pain treatments, as not all of them will be suitable for every person with chronic pain.

If there is one thing that all businesses today need to be concerned with, it is health and safety. It does not matter whether you run a construction company or you are in charge of an accounting office, health and safety is an area whereby you cannot cut corners.

Not only do you need to be physically safe, but also mentally safe. Putting extra things in place like installing actual door closers to ensure a door shuts behind you or getting automatic shutoff appliances for the breakroom can be simple ways to increase mental and physical safety.

Because no matter how safe a working environment is, there are always going to be risks. With that being said, read on to discover some important health and safety tips for all business owners to follow.

Get familiar with the legislation pertaining to your business –

The legislation doesn’t just ensure the safety of your employees, customers, and anyone on your premises. It also ensures that you’re able to cover the costs of injuries sustained by your workforce through provisions like the Affordable Care Act. Working with experts can help you avoid things like an ESRP penalty that can be levied if you’re found to be non-compliant. Due diligence is necessary to ensure that you’re providing for the rights of your workers.

There is only one place to begin, and this is with the rules and regulations that are in place. You need to make sure that you are up-to-date with all of the laws that relate to you. This includes general health and safety regulations, as well as those specific to your industry. There are also regulations on certain working practices, for example, manual handling. Most businesses will have a sizeable number of rules they need to adhere to. Of course, there are specific rules per industry, as nursing home neglect lawyers will tell you, as there are incredibly stringent rules in the care sector.

Keep a well-stocked first aid box –

No matter the size of your company, you need to make certain that you have a first aid box, and you need to make sure that is stocked properly too. There should be someone assigned to monitor the contents of the box so that you can be sure any items are replaced as soon as they need to be. You also need to make sure that there is always someone on-site who has an up-to-date first aid qualification.

Always research suppliers carefully –

It can be very tempting to simply leave your business’s health and safety in the hands of a contractor. However, you need to remember that the level of service provided by these businesses is going to have a massive impact on your own. If you do not choose with care and the service in question is not carried out properly, there are still going to be health and safety risks, and it will be your neck that is on the line. Whether it is asbestos roof encapsulation you are looking for, or you need a provider of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), take your time to carry out all of the necessary research and read reviews too.
