Warning Signs You Should Never Ignore in Your HomeÂ
Your home is likely to be the biggest purchase you will ever make, and more importantly, it is your sanctuary, so it is really important that you do what you can to protect it.
This can sometimes be tricky because you don’t always know that a problem is actually a problem. That’s why, below, I’ve listed a few of the biggest warning signs that all may not be well with your property. If you spot any of these signs, then you need to act fast.
Cracks in the foundations
This one is a biggie. If there are cracks in your foundations, it could mean that the foundation beneath your home is becoming unstable, and the longer you leave a problem like that, the bigger the cracks will get and the more likely it is your will be dealing with serious subsidence. Don’t let that happen, and call a qualified surveyor to assess the damage as soon as possible.
Flickering lights
Flickering lights may seem like little more than an irritation, but they could be much more than that. Lights on the frits are often a sign that the wiring in your home is faulty. If that is the case, they could prevent a serious fire risk. That’s why you need to call in an electrician as soon as possible. Keeping your family safe is the most important thing.
Pooling water
If you have noticed puddles of water anywhere on your property you need to act. Even if you cannot find a leak anywhere, there could be one under your property that needs investigating, or it might be that there is an excessive level of moisture in your home. This can lead to structural problems, dampness issues, mold, and much more besides.
If you’re confident it’s not a leak, try running a dehumidifier for a few days. If that doesn’t help, you may need to call in a professional to come in and carry out a more thorough assessment.
Loose roof tiles
If you have noticed that the tiles on your roof are loose, or even if there are holes in your roof, don’t delay in calling your local residential roofers to inspect it as soon as possible. Loose roof tiles can fall and injure people, but even if that does not happen, they can let water in through the roof which will cause serious problems for your property. The sooner this issue is fixed, the better.
Asbestos and lead paint
If you think that your home has asbestos or lead paint inside, then this is something that could seriously harm your family’s health. You should call in professionals to confirm whether it is asbestos/lead and then employ a professional to remove it. You should NEVER try to get rid of these substances yourself because they can cause serious issues to the brain and lungs.
