4 Ways Moms Can Be Kinder to Themselves

Moms can be pretty hard on themselves. They’re already having to experience a massive amount of pressure playing multiple roles such as the spouse, the worker, cleaner, cook, the daughter, and the mother. It’s truly amazing the amount of work that a mother needs to do and the sheer number of expectations that they’re having to deal with.  This leads to a massive amount of expectations, on themselves and from others.

While it can’t be controlled how others think or expect out of you, you can only control your expectations, especially the ones about yourself.  It’s important to build empathy, empathy for yourself.  You’re amazing, and you have the whole world on your shoulders, mama. But, for yourself and for the sake of your mental health, you need to be kinder to yourself. These are some tips to do just that.

Don’t be afraid to splurge on yourself

Most mothers are having to work full time, parent full time, and are still having to carry most of the unpaid labor at homes such as chores or cooking. You work hard, you work every single day, you’re always working some role 24/7 no matter what. It’s best for yourself to just take a step back and see what you’ve done. You’ve achieved so much! You deserve to reward yourself with something every once in a while. This could be something such as affordable dental implants, clothes, home décor, or anything else. You deserve to spend a little bit of money on yourself, so why now?

Give yourself the chance to unplug

We live in a world where we’re constantly connected to technology, our phones being a great example. Unfortunately, this leads to the expectation of always having to be connected. Don’t put this expectation on yourself. Learn that it’s okay to unplug and have a digital detox. Another issue that comes from being too connected is comparing. Stop comparing yourself with others, especially those Instagram moms. There are no perfect moms, and those moms from Instagram are far from perfect. Instagram and reality are completely different, so never compare your life to theirs.

Forgive yourself

Mothers guilt themselves to infinity and beyond. If you’re wanting to become a super mom, then this is something that you simply should not be doing to yourself. Whenever you make a mistake, don’t try to feel guilty. If others make a mistake, don’t try to give yourself a guilt trip either. Mistakes happen, it’s simply just a part of life. This lingering guilt shouldn’t be a part of motherhood, and it’s only going to hold you back. We’re all human, mistakes just happen.

Do what makes you feel good

This could be something as small as a bath, or something major as going on vacation (which all moms need). So, what makes you feel good? What makes you feel recharged? This can be something that gives you bliss for an hour such as a nice bubble bath, but it can be something bigger too. The bottom line, just do things for yourself, just know that you are entitled to feel good.
