Quickie: Ouch, When You Get Burnt.

When cooking or working with something hot, there is always a danger of getting burnt. When celebrating holidays there are more causes for burns, like roasting marshmallows, fireworks, sparklers, grills and fire pits. REMEMBER, If it is a severe burn seek medical attention immediately.

If you happen to get a slight burn, put your skin under luke-warm water while letting the temperature increase to cold, it will start to neutralize the burn.

Once you remove the burn from cold water, pour soy sauce onto the burn. It will help draw out the burn and sting. Apply antibiotic ointment to the burn. Repeat ointment treatment till skin is healed.

Quickie: Removing Pollen from a Surface.

That yellow-greenish dust that covers the car, lawn chairs or grill is of course, pollen. Remember when removing pollen, don’t just wipe it away. Doing that will release spores into the air and cause allergy sufferers to have a flare up.

Wet the pollen first, either by pouring water directly on the surface or apply a saturated towel on top of the surface and let it sit for a few seconds. Once the pollen is wet you can wipe up the surface. Be sure to wash hands after handling, so allergens don’t transfer to other surfaces.

Quickie: Remove Garlic Smell from Hands.

When chopping garlic, most people don’t wear gloves, which allows the scent of garlic to absorb into your hands. The smell can be quite potent and last for hours, no matter how frequent you wash your hands even with a scented soap.

A quick tip, that actually can remove garlic smell from hands, is by rubbing them on something that is stainless steel. Using a faucet or a tea kettle are good options, the best option is using the refrigerator door handles if you have stainless appliances. (Side Note: Don’t use utensils, you don’t want to risk hurting yourself.)

Need Ice for a Party. Quickies:

Need Ice for a Party

A lot of parties are coming up this month and next, for graduations, holidays or just welcoming the barbecue season. The thing most party throwers overlook until party day is ice. Sure, buying bags of ice isn’t too expensive, but it’s an expense you don’t need, with a little forethought.

Whether you use ice trays or you use an ice maker, spend your time, a couple of days prior to the party, filling up old shopping bags or gallon freezer bags with ice and storing them in the freezer for the “party cooler” is a great money saver.

Ice intended only for drinks should be stored in clean or sanitized gallon bags until they can be placed into ice buckets for the party day.

You will have plenty of ice if you prepare a few times a day, several days before the big event.

Keep Lip Color on Longer, While Moisturizing and Protecting. Quickie:

Quickie: Keep Lip Color on Longer, While Moisturizing and Protecting.

There are so many products on the market now to make lip color last. But, what are the ingredients? It may leave your lips feeling sticky or doesn’t have protection properties in your shade.

The old school way to keep your lips protected and lush is putting your foundation on your lips as well as the rest of your face. Foundations have moisturizers, SPF, are well tested for years; being hypo-allergenic and are not sticky. Another bonus is, you will get a true shade of color, without the lips natural tint, altering the color.

Let the foundation set for a couple minutes, then add on your favorite shade of lip liner and/or lipstick. It won’t last all day, but it will set naturally and last longer than plain lipstick alone.
