Worked Out With A Swiss Ball Yet?

Are you bored of endless sit ups, press ups and treadmill runs as part of your cardio routines? I have a fun alternative solution, namely Swiss ball training. Swiss balls can train your entire body with innovative moves that can sprinkle a breath of fresh air through monotonous workout drills.

Often used in Pilates you may know them by alternatives names; yoga balls, balance balls, gym balls body balls or sports balls. But whatever name you call them they are as versatile as a Swiss army knife. They therefore can be used in lots of different ways to target muscles all over your body.

So how do they work?

A Swiss ball allows you to improve your stability and coordination due to the nature of the ball being unstable in the first place. It is aspherical in shape and therefore will move about in all directions forcing you to counteract its momentum so you don’t fall off.
This works your core, something that every workout publication and training program seems to be obsessed with. The core is so important as it is like the central hub that connects your entire body. A strong core will bullet proof your back and work wonders for your waistline and can also increase your agility.

How A Swiss Ball Enhances Muscle Development

As you use a Swiss ball consistency over a period of time, your muscles will start to develop rapidly to handle the stress of the new workload. This occurs as the individual core muscles gradually lengthen and become used to contracting on demand. It’s no wonder that the mammoth 350 pound plus contenders in the World’s Strongest Man contest attribute much of their success to having a strong core.

If you need to lift anything heavy the abdomen has to tighten like a belt to prevent a lower or upper back injury. A lot of the body’s strength also originates in the core, so whether you want to be super-sized or super skinny, core training is essential.
But traditional exercises like sit ups, planks and ab crunches don’t cut it anymore. They do not isolate your abdomen enough, and have a lot of assistance by the surrounding muscles. That’s where new accessories like balance balls come into play. They help you specifically target the parts of the body that have been previously difficult to hone in on.

Full Body Workouts

However, these balls can be used to target more than just the core muscles of the body, which include the abdominal muscles. The outlying muscles of the hips and shoulders can also be trained. An exercised called Swiss ball prone push-ups will engage these extra areas plus if it’s the first ever exercise you start out with, it will allow you to become acclimatized to the ball.

Here is one of many variations on how to perform this exercise.
To begin lie on top of the ball facing forwards (prone). Gently roll your weight forward so that your feet rest on the rear of the ball and your hands take the traditional push up position at the front. Just like a traditional push up, press your weight upwards from the floor.
Start of by doing 10 repetitions of the exercise and build up until you can do 20. If it is too easy for you work up to 5 sets of 20 reps and shorten the rest between sets down to 30 seconds.

You should feel the exercise in your shoulders, triceps and also your abs. For an increased stretch in your abdomen area tighten your abs on the way down. This will build up killer abs if you keep at it for a few months.

Here is a video of the exact exercise sequence.

Losing Balance

Like all things new, getting accustomed to a Swiss ball can be cumbersome, especially if you don’t have good balance to begin with. The trick is to make small movements when starting out and increase them gradually. Over time you will become more proficient. Once your muscles start to build up some strength and your mind to muscle connection is established the movements will get easier.
The next time you see one of those oversized balls in the corner of your gym, take one on.

Valentine’s Day on a Tight Budget.

How to do Valentine’s Day on a Tight Budget.

classbook-for-falling-in-love05

Valentine’s Day is the card giving, chocolate eating, gift exchanging day you either love or hate. There are many reasons people pick this day out of the year to express their love, but the price tag that comes with the day can be substantial. So you don’t have the money to buy that over-sized teddy bear or the giant candy heart. That’s alright. It’s the thoughts that counts.

Why not find that, kid-like side of you, that is innocent and sincere. A paper heart with “I Love You” written on it, when you were a child, worked, why not now? Take the time to do a little arts and crafts. Making your own card can go a long way. And, personalize it with just the right words. Store bought cards do a good job, but making it yourself, allows you to say just what you want.

Don’t put your craft skills away just yet.

Guys, if you can’t afford to buy the jewels, why not make some. Making a necklace out of macaroni will melt her heart, knowing that you took the time to do this.

If you got a bit more patience, try making a gumball necklace or bracelet. All you need is a large needle, a steady hand, elastic string and gumballs.

Ladies, if you are stumped on a heart’s day project, try thinking of games. Guys like being entertained, as well as seeing the romantic stuff.

Get a box of Alphabet dry pasta. Spell out love words and move them aside. In a bowl, put in those words and add red food coloring, mix it up till all letters are covered with color. Let them dry. Once they dry completely, add them back with the uncolored letters in a decorated jar. Give him the jar as a gift, and tell him how many words he needs to find. Give him a sweet reward, for each word he puts together.

Don’t have the funds to go out to have fun, no problem. Make a dinner as fancy as you’d like. Having a blanket dinner, with all their favorite candy in front of a fireplace, could be a nice alternative to a heavy meal-candlelit dinner.

The money and expensive gift aren’t going to make the day special; it’s being together and letting the other one know you made an effort for love.

Caring for Trees in the Winter Season.

Caring for Trees in the Winter Season.

tipsfromtia.com winter tree

With the chances of icing and thawing throughout the Winter season, trees can take a major beating. The best time is to prevent Winter damage in the late Fall, when trees go dormant. But, if you didn’t have time to do that or you’ve come to notice a problem in the Winter, it’s usually maintainable, if caught quick enough.

If ice has caused the branches to break or crack, Winter pruning is needed and also acceptable.  This will help save the tree, as well as, save anything, that a fallen branch could come in contact with. And remember, safety is a must when pruning, especially in colder conditions, because muscles tense up quicker, in cold weather.

Also, if you see the bark of the trunk starting to get bare, wrap it in burlap and put a little chicken wire fence around it, to keep any unwanted animals from eating the bark. You can also put mouse bait, on the inside of the fenced off area, so mice are not feeding off the tree as well.

Urban living, long office hours, traffic jams and crowded places have an ability to wear you out and make you feel a bit stressed. When you become a little overwhelmed by everyday responsibilities, it is the perfect opportunity to take a break and get lost in the wilderness. Going on a little vacation into the wild you will be able to recharge your batteries and heal your mind, body and soul. After all, they say that nature is not a place to visit; rather it is our true home. So in order to maximize your experience, remember these few tips:

Organization

The first and the most important thing about planning a trip into the wild is organizing everything properly. Camping in nature requires a lot of planning and coordinating. There are a lot of things you need to consider, starting from what kind of equipment to bring, how to pack economically but also how to regulate your basic needs and requirements. Because of this, it is really important to create a detailed plan before you set out on your adventure.

Shelter

When you decide you want to go back to your roots and experience nature more deeply, there is no better way to achieve this then to set up camp in the heart of the wilderness. Whether you are camping in a forest, an already set campsite or perhaps some other area depends completely on your personal preference. Just make sure you set up camp on a somewhat flat, durable and safe terrain. For maximum comfort you will definitely need a tent, a sleeping bag and a thick sleeping pad. Improvised pillows and blankets are also a good idea, especially if you are camping somewhere colder.

Food

There is no need to limit yourself only on canned food and sandwiches. Camping in nature allows you to prepare food in an old-fashioned manner, which gives it a special flavor. Cooking in the wilderness is best done using wood and coal. Local hardwood like oak and maple will surely contribute to the whole outcome of the meal. Also in order to avoid cooking directly in the fire, consider making a simple grill using only a grill grate and some coal and wood.

Equipment

When it comes to camping, less definitely is more. This means that you should strive to find the best way to pack lightly, not bring unnecessary items but also make sure that you do not lack anything. This might sound a bit problematic, but it is not impossible. Every camper needs some basic things such as cooking essentials, shelter and bedding necessities, toiletries and clothes. Of course, there are a lot of other needed items like bug repellant, first aid kit and a Scoutgard camera, which great characteristics makes it quite practical for filming the most amazing nature experiences.

Hygiene

Just because you are in the wilderness, that does not mean you will have to neglect your personal hygiene. There are a few things that you must not forget to bring with you on the trip. Hand sanitizer, wipes and even some hydrogen peroxide accompanied with cotton balls, toilet paper and towels are a must-have. If you are camping someplace near a river or a pond it is always a good option to dip in the water. Also, there are travel size bottles of soap, shampoo and toothpaste that are quite practical for vacationing in the wild.

Edward Abbey once said that wilderness is not a luxury but a necessity of the human spirit. Going back to the basics is something that every person needs in order to get in touch with his inner self. A vacation in the wilderness helps you withstand the chaos of everyday living.

Deep fry that Turkey. Stupid Tip of the Day:

By Tia Cristy

Stupid Tip of the Day: Deep Fry that Turkey.
TipsfromTia.com Holiday Turkey

Holiday dinner menus are being planned as we speak. This week surrounds the cooking of the bird and some enjoy the technique of deep frying it. This is a fine way if you know what you are doing and have the right tools for the job.

We have all heard the insurance commercials telling us how many house fires happen during the season due to the big deep fry. The number one reason the explosion happens is, being unaware that the turkey still has moisture inside it, when it goes in the blazing hot oil. This causes a dispersing reaction (remember, oil and water don’t mix) and the oil explodes out, causing people immediate injury, as well as catch fire to materials in close proximity, due to the excessive temperatures. Make sure if you are a deep fryer, the turkey has had plenty of time drying out. And, if you are going to stuff it prior, follow all instructions to do so. (once again, oil and water don’t mix)

One proper tool to have if deep frying meats is a pull harness to be able to release the meat into the vat from a great distance. This can save people many painful trips, to the hospital. And, can keep firemen at bay so they too, can enjoy the Holiday.

So please, enjoy the cooking of the traditional bird, but save the deep frying to those that are willing to invest in the customary tools and time to keep safe. Best of luck with turkey dinner.
