Dry Skin, Dry Hair, Dry Nails

DRY SKIN, DRY HAIR, DRY NAILS

It’s been a fairly mild season for a lot of regions, which is nice when it comes to the health of our bodies. Did you know that harsh weather can wreak havoc on our skin, hair and nails. However, due to the pandemic, several other factors are terrorizing these things instead.

Washing hands is a MUST

Since the beginning of the sweep of Covid-19, health officials have agreed on one thing… Washing hands. It’s necessary to wash our hands much more frequently and for a long period of time than ever before. Ergo, our hands can become extremely dry and cracked, which isn’t good when it comes to any kind of virus or bacteria that could creep in through little cuts in the skin.

Prevention is key

Keeping our hands from cracking and staying clean is the goal. Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds. Next apply a moisturizer of some kind. My favorite is Argan Oil. It’s light. It dries quickly without leaving a thick, oily residue behind. A little goes a long way… a drop will do you well. And best part, Argan Oil can be used on other parts of the body, including the scalp and hair!

Stop falling out

During the pandemic, a common theme of hair loss has been reported for those that haven’t gotten sick. Quarantine hair loss is a thing. It’s a strange phenomenon that no one can really explain. Is it a deficiency in vitamins or a lack of sunshine? Is it just as simple as common hair loss brough on by stress? Argan Oil is a natural strengthener to hair and is nurturing to the scalp. Again, a little goes a long way. But before you try to douse your head in Argan, be sure to do a test spot on the back of your wrist to make sure you don’t have any adverse reactions. Practice safety first, always.

Natural nails

With the closing and reopening of salons, who knows when it’s possible to get a refill on the nails? Some have asked is it even worth taking the risk of COVID-19 exposure since no one is seeing my nails but me? That’s a question only you can answer for yourself. But many have gone all natural with their nails over the last several months. Repairing the insult of what we can put our nails through just to look fabulous can take some time and patience. And lots of nourishment. Argan oil can help with that, too. Pack with vitamins and anti-inflammatory properties, Argan has the ability to strengthen nails and heal damage. Another bonus, Argan can help treat nail fungus, naturally.

It’s no secret that I love this little bottle packed with so many benefits. I have written about the magic of this oil many times. But if you want to take a chance on winning your own bottle from Green Esthetics… Send an email with your name and address to Tia@TipsfromTia.com Subject: Argan Oil.

How To Get Your Guy To Always Look His Best

How To Get Your Guy To Always Look His Best

(Pixnio CC0)

Picture the scene: It’s date night, and you have spent the day getting yourself ready for the special evening ahead with your guy. You have taken a shower, organized your evening wear, and carefully applied your beauty products. You’re good to go.

Your partner on the other hand…

If he isn’t looking his best, perhaps because he hasn’t made the effort, you’re going to be pretty upset! This might even taint your date night, as you might be a little angry and embarrassed if he hasn’t bothered to care about his appearance.

So, how can you make sure he always looks his best in the future?

#1: Buy nice clothes for him

Some guys prefer to do their own clothes shopping, but there are also those who are content to wear whatever they have owned for the last ‘x’ number of years. If it’s a case of the latter with your guy, it might be that you should gift him nice clothes occasionally, perhaps on his birthday, at Christmas, or on any random occasion. You do need to be careful. of course. You will need to know his size, and you will need to know what he is likely to wear, as you might make matters worse if you buy something ill-fitting and against his taste. But if you do your homework first, you should be able to buy him something that looks good, and as it’s a gift, he might be more likely to wear it.

#2: Add items to your supermarket basket

When you’re out shopping, look for the best deodorants for your guy if you know he doesn’t have any. And look for the right shampoos for your guy too, and even the best oil-based pomade if you know he would benefit. When he has the right products at home, he will be more likely to use them, even if you do need to point him in the right direction occasionally. So, consider what he is short of and unlikely to buy himself, and add them to your supermarket basket.

#3: Compliment him when he does make the effort

We all like to be complimented, so when he does do something to make the effort with his appearance, let him know how good he looks. This form of encouragement might make him make more of an effort again in the future, not only because he knows he looks good, but because he knows it makes you happy too.

#4: Gently educate him

Some guys want to look good but they don’t know how to do it. They might be clueless when it comes to choosing their own wardrobe, and they might not know the first thing about hair or skincare. So, direct him to fashion sites where he will pick up a few top tips, and bookmark any articles you find, such as our post on men’s skincare. Maybe look for a few YouTube tutorials too, but in all that you do, don’t force these things on him. Simply encourage him to take a look in his own time, without making a big deal about it. This way, he won’t feel as if you are nagging him in any way.

With these tips, your guy should (hopefully) look his best the next time you’re out together! Leave a comment below if you have any other advice for our readers.

Shape Up for the Holidays

Shape Up for the Holidays

Most years, trying to stay fit during the holiday season can be difficult for anyone. First of all, if you live in the northern hemisphere, it is winter. The body automatically keeps an additional few pounds as insulation for the colder months. Next, add in all the gatherings that are surrounded by the most delicious food… This is a recipe for adding on weight.

This Holiday Season

Covid-19 and self-quarantine have changed a lot of people’s eating habits during the warmer months. Binge watching TV and snacking away the extra stress is totally understandable. Plus, being unable to commit to the usual summer activities has subsequently added on a few pounds to some fine folks. If you’re feeling self-conscious about it, fine, get yourself the best shapewear for tummy and waist to inspire you to feel better about your appearance. However, this isn’t the time to be overanxious about what the winter is going to do to your body if you are already feeling out of shape. You need to first remember: you are beautiful inside and out. And second: this is the time to focus on staying healthy, any which way you and your family can.

Staying Active, Even in Small Ways

Staying active in any way is needed to keep your immune system up. Don’t belong to a gym or don’t want to go to one during this time. Do some simple things to maintain health.

-Add in a daily walk around your property. Brisk walks can really stir up the heart rate.

-If you got a staircase, use it. Going up and down the stairs, repeatedly, can give your body a total cardio workout.

-Got kids? Little ones love to be helpful. Do stretching together as a playtime activity. Do squats while picking up the toys. Reward sit-ups with a kiss from your fellow quarantined loved ones.

-Give a little support. Add the best workout waist trainer to your wardrobe to give support to your back and help shape your body as you even do the most minimal workouts.

Invest in Yourself This Holiday Season

With Black Friday Deals happening everywhere already this holiday season, lookout for some great deals on the ‘home’ things you’ve been thinking about. Exercise equipment is usually a huge score during the Black Friday sales. If it’s just you and your partner, perhaps, invest in a box-food company for portion control on your main meals. Don’t forget about the pampering aspects… Sculptshe Black Friday Promotion is where you can get workout support waist trainers as well as silky waist shapers to bring some sexy back into your quarantined self-esteem. And don’t forget, massaging chairs or portable back massagers might be a great way to care for your muscles, especially at this time.

The north has a lot of colder weather ahead of them as the southern hemisphere falls into their warmer months. Either way, staying in healthy and preventing serious side effects from our quarantine-lifestyles is very important. Muscle atrophy, mental health and malnutrition has affected many during this time. It’s time to make sure you are getting the best from the nutrients in the food you eat, the people you surround yourself with and the way you treat your body on a regular basis.

Top Tips For Men’s Skin Care This Winter

Top Tips For Men’s Skin Care This Winter

We are now in the autumn and before we know it, winter will be upon us and with that is cold, harsh weather. This can play havoc with our skin, leaving us with dry and often sore skin.

Men, in particular, tend to neglect their skin and leave it to the elements. They are more likely to be working outside, they are more likely to be shaving their faces and much less likely to be using any skincare products. Put all these things together and you have the perfect recipe for sad winter skin.

Here, we look at some of the things that you can do to help protect your skin this winter so you can have skin that feels smooth, soft and perfectly touchable.

Clean your shaving tools

No matter how good your cleansing and skincare routine is, if your tools aren’t clean, your face won’t be either. For example, if you are using a beard trimmer or a razor and do not clean them in between uses, you are transferring all of the dead skin cells, oil, and grime back onto your skin. Not only is this pretty gross, but it is a cesspool of bacteria which can even cause infections of the skin.

Make sure you clean your shaving tools in between use. And remember, if trimmers begin to show signs of rust or damage, get rid of them and buy new ones straight away to avoid injuring your skin.

Moisturize

If you are going to do one thing for your skin, whatever time of the year it is, make sure you moisturize it. Moisturizing is not just for women – it is for anyone with skin! It is especially important to use a moisturizer along with other skincare products from letsdisco.co in the winter to replace all the natural oils and moisture lost from your skin. Opt for something rich and luxurious and slather it on every morning and every evening after cleansing.

Invest in a humidifier

Skin is our largest organ and reacts to our environment. In the winter, when we have our central heating and car heating cranked up to full blast, hot, dry air is pumped around the space that you are in. This plays havoc with your skin, causing it to feel dry, itchy and flaky. Combat that by increasing the amount of moisture in the air. The best way of doing that is to put a humidifier in the room and get yourself a good supply of distilled water from somewhere like Golyath so that the air that is pumped into the room is as pure as possible.

Quality humidifers disperse moisture into the air that will hydrate you and the air around you. This will not only benefit your skin but your hair, eyes, and overall health.

Keep it covered

The two main causes of skin dryness in winter is cold and dry air. If you can minimize your skin’s exposure to harsh winter winds and cold, dry air, you can stop the natural oils of your skin from being stripped away. Where possible, wear gloves to protect your hands and use your scarf or collar on your jacket to cover your nose and lips. The less contact with the cold air and your skin, the better.

Keep hydrated and eat well

This is not really a winter skincare tip, but more of an all-year-round skincare tip. One of the best things that you can do for your skin, and general health, is to drink plenty of water and eat a healthy, balanced diet. When it comes to winter, we tend to eat lots of rich, heavy comfort foods and, when it comes to Christmas, drink lots of alcohol. This will leave your skin looking and feeling dull, lifeless and feel pretty horrible to touch. Balance out the beers with plenty of water and have a side of veggies with that pizza. It might be boring, but your skin will thank you for it.

Slough it off

This is a part of the skincare routine that many people – men and women – omit, but a gentle exfoliator or scrub will clear the skin of dead cells that cling to the face, clog up your pores causing acne and blackheads and make your skin look dull and patchy. It is particularly important as you get older – at the age of 25 or so, the rate that your skin sloughs off dead cells naturally slows down. Avoid the sandpaper though; something light and gentle is the way forward.

Taking care of your skin is not just something for women. Taking care of your skin helps your skin feel and look great, whatever the weather and whatever your age.

How to Grow and Keep a Great Looking Beard

How to Grow and Keep a Great Looking Beard

So, you’re a guy that’s decided to grow a beard? You’ll be the envy of all of the guys that secretly wish that they could sport a handsome beard and you’ll no doubt turn a few heads from those that admire beards on guys.

But where do you start when it comes to growing a beard? How do you make sure that your beard looks dapper and not a complete mess?

Here are some beard care tips for the guys out there that want to grow their mane. Read on for more.

Know Which Beard Shape Will Suit Your Face

When it comes to beard gains, you need to know which style of beard is going to best suit your face.

Generally, you should let the beard soften any extremities in your features and pull everything closer to the centre of your face. For instance, if you have a long face, you wouldn’t want a beard that is long, and that will accentuate this fact. You’ll want a beard that widens your face so plan to grow a beard that has wider sides and is kept short at the chin. If you have a square face, think about softening up your jaw and having a larger patch of hair under your chin.

A Good Beard Takes Time

When it comes to growing a great beard, it will take time. You shouldn’t expect to see your beard appearing within days or even weeks. A good beard could take months or even longer to cultivate.

Be patient with your beard. It will grow eventually.

Shave the Perimeter

There is a difference between a beard that is left to grow wild and a well-kept beard, and that is that the perimeter is always kept neat and tidy on a well-kept beard.

This means shaving your cheeks and your neckline to keep your beard in check.

Know How and When To Trim Your Beard

If you want a great looking beard, you need to know when and how you should trim your beard. Trim too early or too short, and you’ll be left with a weak-looking beard.

Invest in a good quality trimmer. If you are not confident that you’ll do a good job, find a barber that is experienced at trimming beards. A good rule of thumb when looking for a barber for your beard is to see if they have a beard themselves. They will understand the plight of perfecting the perfect mane.

Wash Your Beard Often

Just like the hairs on your head, you need to wash your beard often. Think about getting a good beard wash that will not only clean your beard but the skin underneath it too. Dead skin under your beard hairs can be a problem, so you may want to clean your beard with an antidandruff shampoo.

Then, once you have washed your beard, gently pat it dry. Never use a hairdryer or aggressively towel dry it as this could cause damage to your hairs.
