Easy Ways To Work Spirituality Into Your Modern Life

Easy Ways To Work Spirituality Into Your Modern Life

Among the hustle and bustle of everyday life, many of us struggle to fit in anything to do with spirituality. In fact, how many of us can honestly say that we have been in touch with our spiritual side ever before? A lot of people tie it very closely with religion, when in fact, you do not necessarily need to be religious in order to be spiritual. But why would you bother being spiritual at all? Well, modern life is very hectic, and especially for women, can be full of all sorts of pressures and sources of stress. Getting back in touch with your spiritual side can help to put our worries and stresses back into perspective – thus helping you to live a much richer, more fulfilling life. The plus side is that you don’t need to change your whole lifestyle either – the kinds of changes you make can be so minor that you will notice how easily they slip into your existing routine. If you are ready to get spiritual and to improve your quality of life, here’s how you can do so.

Be in the present

You might think that you are one of those people who ‘lives in the moment’. But do you find yourself constantly worrying about the future, or spending time dwelling on the past? If you answer yes to either of these things, then you probably don’t live in the present quite as much as you thought you did. Actually living in the present can be learnt through a technique called mindfulness, which has its roots in ancient Buddhist traditions. However, it has now expanded across the world and is practiced by people of all religions/no religion too.

Carry reminders with you

We all know how children carry comforters around with them to help soothe them when they are stressed out. Now, we are not recommended that you keep a blanket or a stuffed toy in your purse to get out the minute you find yourself in a stressful situation. But having a little reminder to stay grounded on your person every day can be great if it’s all getting a bit too much for you. For example, you might choose to carry a tigers eye mala, or maybe even a smooth gemstone you can hold or rub when you feel yourself getting anxious or worried. A simple act like this can easily bring you back into the present and offer you perspective on your current situation.

Try yoga

If you want to combine your new found spirituality with a way to keep fit, why not give yoga a try? Yoga is an ancient practice and comes in many forms, but the general basis for it is moving through a selection of poses while being aware of the breath in the body. This can be incredibly relaxing and you may also find that you start to tone up and gain muscle from the practice too. Yoga classes are run in studios all over the country, so you’ll easily find one near you.

Keep It Sleek: Hair Tips To Get You Through The Winter

Keep It Sleek: Hair Tips To Get You Through The Winter

We’ve all experienced the dreaded hat hair at some point through winter – that unattractive plastered-to-your-skull look at the roots, followed by a strange sort of puffiness in the hair that was exposed to the cold air. Here are some tips to help you get through the winter without resorting to the terrible hat hair…

Keep Your Hair Protected

No, we don’t necessarily mean that you should wear a hat all the time – hat hair, remember? But you should try to keep your hair protected from the elements. If that entails a hat, that’s fine – but try to steer away from scratchy wool and go for fleece lined hats instead to keep your hair smooth. You could also consider putting up your hood or wrapping a soft scarf around your head instead of going for a hat.

Prepare For The Next Day At Night

Are you a morning shower’er? Are you prepared to change that? If your answer is yes to both questions, then look no further: your winter hair solutions are here waiting for you. If you wash your hair in the morning, then you probably use a hairdryer to dry it, meaning that your hair becomes dry and frizzy over time if you aren’t careful to use heat protecting sprays. If you wash it the night before, it’ll be much easier to dry it overnight without using heated products – and sleeping on a silk pillowcase will make it sleek and glossy. In addition, it’ll stop you going out with wet hair that might freeze and snap!

Splash Out On Quality Products

Over the winter, a lot of the time your hair can look dull and lifeless – and something that could be contributing to that is the same old shampoo and conditioner that you’ve been using for absolutely ever. If your hair’s used to your hair products then it probably doesn’t respond as well to them as it used to, meaning that it’s time for a change. Look at the best natural hair products to cut out harmful chemicals from your everyday hair routine, and make sure that you choose the products to suit your hair type.

Keep Yourself Hydrated

Drinking water during the summer seems like second nature, but you need to ensure that you keep doing it through the winter months too – this will improve your skin and hair (and, if we’re honest, it will help your entire body to work better). If you don’t love the taste of water, go for a water filter or add some fruit for flavour. You should also make sure that you deep condition your hair once a week to reduce breakage and make it glossy and well-behaved.

Get A New Look

Finally, if you’ve been thinking about getting a new look for a while, why not go for it now? It’s harder to make big statements with your fashion over the winter, so you could do it with your hair instead – and having shorter hair will mean that you’ll have to do less to look after it. Not only that, but a new look will automatically make you feel beautiful and good about yourself.

Confidence- Boosting Beauty Tips

Confidence- Boosting Beauty Tips

The great thing about beauty products and treatments is they can really increase your confidence. Sometimes a good hair day and a fresh set of nails is all you need to give you a boost, make you feel put together and like you can tackle the world. If you’re experiencing any of the following common complaints, here’s how you can deal with them and boost your confidence.

Dark Circles and Puffy Eyes

Have you ever woken up in the morning looking like you’d done ten round with Mike Tyson? Busy schedules and poor sleep habits mean that most of us don’t get the sleep we need, and it’s quick to show in our faces. If you don’t want your eyes to give you away, there are plenty of things you can do to look bright eyed and bushy tailed- even if you don’t feel it! First, pop two spoons in the fridge for twenty minutes, and then press the back of them onto your eyes. The cool metal helps to shrink and de-puff eyes, it feels really refreshing too. Next, conceal dark circles using a peach concealer. This colour corrects and neutralises the blue tones under the eyes. You can then go in with your regular skin coloured concealer, but choose one that’s light and doesn’t look heavy or collect under the eyes. Next, a neutral eyeshadow look with plenty of black mascara can help eyes look bigger and more open and awake. A white eyeliner on the waterline can brighten things up even further.

Puffy Cheeks

Maybe a lack of sleep has caused puffy cheeks, or maybe your diet hasn’t been the best lately. Salt and sugar can both cause water retention. Drinking plenty of water to flush this out and addressing your food choices is the obvious step, but in the meantime, makeup has your back! Contouring and highlighting can give the appearance of sculpting and chiselling the cheekbones, making your face look slimmer and more defined. There are loads of tutorials online you can check out for techniques and products if you’re unsure. If your face always lacks definition, you could consider a non-invasive sculpting procedure like laser liposuction. This can make you look more attractive by making your jawline more defined, reducing jowls and giving you a nicer side profile.

Thin Lips

Our lips can naturally thin out as we age, although some of us never have particularly full lips naturally. Big lips are most definitely ‘in’ thanks to celebs like Kylie Jenner, if you want to boost your pout, there are a few things you could try. Aside from lip injections you could also use makeup to carefully overline and define lips with a good liner and lipstick. If you temporarily want to make your lips bigger to snap the perfect selfie, you could use a suction cup tool.

Skin Conditions

Acne, rosacea, birthmarks and other skin conditions can all cause a lack of confidence. When your skin is so visible, it can be a difficult situation to deal with. Thankfully there are products on the market that are excellent, and can cover up all kinds of marks and blemishes. If your skin is sore or prone to being irritated, try natural mineral makeup. This offers good coverage without the chemicals that can cause problems.

Get Back On Track And Get Things Done

Get Back On Track And Get Things Done

For many of us, mid-February is the time when our resolutions are waning. After a positive start to the year, our determination falters, and we slip back into old habits. We then feel frustrated and angry at ourselves, but feel overwhelmed and powerless to get back on track.

If you recognize this cycle, then you’re certainly not alone. It’s time to stop beating yourself up and make a few simple, positive changes.

Silence Your Inner Critic

So, you just spent the weekend binging on your latest box set. You slept late and ate fast, processed food. When Monday morning comes around, you’re tired, bloated, and feeling guilty and disgusted at yourself. Dirty dishes are still stacked up in the kitchen, and you haven’t achieved any of your goals.

Put it behind you. The weekend has gone, and this is a new week. Make a fresh list and get stuck in. Silence that critical voice. There’s no point in going over and over what you haven’t done. Just make a start on doing it.

Split Tasks

Often, we fail in achieving our goals because we take on too much. We were over ambitious in what we could reasonably achieve. It helps to make a list of all the things you want to complete over a long period of time. But it’s not helpful to look at in its entirety. Have you ever felt completely overwhelmed because you have so much to do? And the result was that you did nothing?

Try splitting your tasks into manageable chunks. Prioritize and focus on one thing at a time. This will help you adopt good habits. Work out which of the items would bring about the most benefit and tackle those first. Even if you tick one item off your list or make one simple change in your life, it’s something. And it’s certainly better than doing nothing at all.

Delegate

You don’t have to do everything yourself. In fact, it’s not advisable to do so. Wherever possible, split tasks with your family or work colleagues, etc. Make use of local services such as City Appliance Repair, who will fix broken appliances in super-fast time. This will free up your time and allow you to tick off another item from your to-do list.

Tackle Short Tasks

If you find you have a build-up of short tasks, re-think how you’re planning your time. If tasks take a couple of minutes to complete, get them out of the way immediately. For example, opening and filing post, washing your coffee cup, putting magazines or books away after use. These are the little things that mount up if left and end up taking much longer.

Plan Your Weekends

People often find that they waste time at the weekend. They set out with all good intentions but get lost along the way. Try planning your weekends in the same way you would plan your working days. You don’t have to be as strict, of course. After all, it is the weekend, and you should have some time off. But it helps to have a few things planned to ensure you stay on track. And remember to schedule some time to do the things you enjoy.

What If You Have No Time?

Finally, it’s worth mentioning time. Many of us lead busy lives, something that is part of modern living. But is it true that you have no time? As a simple exercise, try writing down everything you do in a week. You’ll be amazed how much time you spend watching television or scrolling through your phone. Think of how much time you could save or put to better use if you switched off your screens for a few hours.

A Smile A Day Keeps the Dentist Away

A Smile A Day Keeps the Dentist Away

Our teeth go through a lot in their lifetime. If we live past the age of 70, it is likely that we will have lost the majority of them through natural decay; the lifespan of a tooth has not evolved in the same way as our general lifespan has, as the years have gone by and been kinder to us.

There are so many ways to treat our teeth the way that they deserve to be treated, yet many of us rarely do it (only half of us admit to keeping up a regular flossing routine). So what can we do to ensure our smile never fades?

Floss

So as previously stated, only half of us floss. The main reason that a number of us don’t is because we haven’t been brought up with it as habit (i.e. shown to us as a positive thing to do by parents or another figure that we would’ve looked up to as children), so it is imperative that if you have a child, you show them what to do when they are age-appropriate. Flossing has evolved so that you don’t even have to rely on the traditional dental-string now to get in between your teeth – interdental brushes such as those made by Wisdom and TePe are gaining in popularity due to dentist recommendations, and come in different sizes to ensure a more thorough clean than traditional floss could ever provide.

Brush Properly

It may sound incredibly patronizing, as it is something that we have been doing every day for years, but do you know how to brush your teeth? Have a quick search online for how best to do it. You may be thinking that the whiter your teeth are is a good indicator of how good your brushing technique is, but the colour of your teeth isn’t the main thing that dentists are looking for to show that you are up keeping a good routine. There are things to help you get your teeth looking whiter if brushing isn’t helping – look for reviews on the best teeth whitening strips for a quicker solution if any whitening toothpaste that you have invested in isn’t working as well as you had hoped.

Drink More

Certain drinks stain – certainly the notable ones like coffee, tea and wine – and not just your carpets if spilt. They can cause marks to appear on teeth that may be hard to get off, if you can get them off at all without cosmetic help. If you drink more water, not only will this help with your general health and wellbeing, but it is also extremely good for your teeth. Any food debris that you have floating around your mouth will be washed away with water without causing any other damage, and it will help your mouth to keep lubricated with saliva. As gross as this sounds, saliva is actually your friend – it contains enamel-strengthening enzymes which fight against tooth decay and help to keep your mouth a happy one.
