Why Asking For Help Isn’t A Bad Thing

Why Asking For Help Isn’t A Bad Thing

It’s a big step, asking for help. There are so many of us who never ask for it for fear of being perceived as “weak,†and you would think that the message has been communicated for so long that asking for help or advice is okay now. And it always was, but why is it such an issue for a lot of us? We all end up being consumed with worry over the tiniest thing sometimes, but the big issues we tend to brush over and adopt the stiff upper lip method of carrying on. What are the reasons we tend to avoid asking for help when we are in completely dire situations?

Well, the main thing is that, apart from the perception of being weak, it’s actually the fact that you feel that you are letting yourself down in some way. Even if you know you have a problem, such as an addiction, the fact that you are admitting there is something wrong is communicating the realization that you are weak; and it’s official now that it’s out there. Pride, ego, or sheer self-centeredness are the things that stop us from asking for help. And we can very easily fear asking for help, but unfortunately, it’s something that we are unable to do by ourselves. But what does asking for help accomplish, and what can you do to make it an easier transition to recovery?

Courage

While we all perceive asking for help as a sheer and utter weakness, it’s actually the opposite. It’s your pride and inability to ask for help that makes you weak, and in standing alone to deal with your problems, you might think that it’s easier for you. But if you looked at the impact it has on people you love, that is usually the reason a lot of addicts reach out for help. This is the biggest step in recovering, but it’s also the hardest, and you are showing a lot of courage by asking for help.

Honesty Is The Best Policy

This is the key when asking for help. If you haven’t been honest up to this point, that when you do finally ask for the help you realize you need, it’s time to come clean. Deception, no matter how big or small, doesn’t inspire trust, and it’s the time for a clean slate. The other side of the honesty coin is acceptance. It’s never easy to sit with your faults and accept that you have been dishonest because if it was so easy to be honest, we’d all do it right away to get the help we need without damaging our pride or ego. But the real fact is that when we face up to everything with an honest outlook, only then can we, and our loved ones, move on.

Do You Think You’re A Burden?

When people ask for help, the concern is that they may have put loved ones through enough. It’s common to feel like you’re dead weight, and you’re just a burden to them and nothing more. The fact is, you’re not. Family members won’t help you because they feel it makes life easier for them, it’s because they care about you! When you ask for help it means you are ready to take on board the advice and support of professionals. Whatever addiction you have, you will always have the support of professionals on hand once you’ve reached out. There are organizations like The Recovery Village that are purpose-built to help you not just “dry out,†but to enable you to build a new life that is healthy and happy, independent of the trappings of addiction. Asking for help is all about reaching into yourself for that notion of strength you didn’t realize you had.

You Shouldn’t Feel Embarrassed

Asking for help, regardless of the situation, leaves us in a vulnerable position, and as a result, we can feel very embarrassed when we finally ask for help. But if you decide to open up to your loved ones after toying with the idea, it’s very likely that they’ve already noticed. So don’t feel nervous. Or if they haven’t noticed, they will still want to help you because they care! We all show that we care in different ways, and if they are showing willing to do everything they can to help, then it’s apparent that they care, and it’s important to not be nervous about approaching the subject. They want you to be well and happy above everything else, so asking for help, as difficult as it may be, will lead you towards the best outcome for you.

Creating A Personal Style For Your Home

Creating A Personal Style For Your Home

(colorful-interior-wall-conceptimage: miserv.net)

Forget the notion of keeping up with your neighbors. It doesn’t matter what size tv they have in their living room, or how great their new garden furniture looks. You don’t need to copy or better them with some misguided feelings about competition. Your home should reflect who you are with your personal preferences. Whether it is the place you enjoy coming back to at the end of each working day, or if you are at home full time, it should be your haven of happiness and pleasure.

So, if you would like to make your home unique and personal to you, here are a few ideas to stir your imagination.

On the outside

No matter what the size of your garden, populate it with items that suit you. If you are into all things fantasy, purchase sculptures and statues to fashion your garden into a landscape J.R.R. Tolkien would have been proud to call his own.

Who cares if every house in the street is painted in the same shades of white? If you have a favorite color, hire a painting company to make your house stand out from the rest.

Interior décor

Again, use whatever color you fancy to paint the inside of your home. Bathrooms are traditionally painted blue, for example, but you can go with whatever color of the spectrum you fancy. Provided you do not intend to sell your house anytime soon, feel free to mix and match colors and decor in every room of your house.

Works of art can add character to any room. Whether you prefer landscape paintings or something abstract, there will be something available for your taste and budget. You may consider yourself an artist, so add your own creations to your home. If you are a keen photographer, blow up your work to poster size and frame them to add to your walls. One room of the house could be a personal gallery displaying your work, perfect for showing off to any visitors.

Personal collections

Many people enjoy collecting things, including models of vintage cars, vast DVD collections, and classic works of literature. Whatever you enjoy, display them in your home. Any valuable items should always be kept in a glass cabinet to avoid accidents, but anything else can be displayed on shelving. Of course, your items will still hold personal value to you, even if they are not of monetary worth, so you may still wish to add a ‘Do Not Touch’ sign to keep away sticky fingers.

Creating a personal space

You may share your home with family or friends, so you may not be entitled to furnish every room in the house to your liking. If this is true, try and create a space in a suitable room that is all about you. For example, if you enjoy reading, set up a bookcase and comfortable chair for your relaxation time. If you do have more control over the house, have a designated room for your hobbies, such as a movie room with a projector and large screen.

How to Kick the Sugar Habit

How to Kick the Sugar Habit

Sugar is in everything. It’s pretty hard to avoid these days so our average intake is way higher than it should be. Along with being the leading cause of type 2 diabetes, it also lowers the function of white blood cells, has links to different types of cancer and generally leaves you feeling not at your best. People who have cut down on or completely cut out sugar often comment on how energized they feel and how much easier it is to get through a long day. Here’s some tips for kicking the sugar habit.

Re-think Your Grocery List

If you’re buying a lot of ready-made meals and sugary snacks, it may be time to re-think what you’re buying. Processed foods are the worst for sugar content so you should avoid them like the plague. If you’re having trouble with finding the time to cook, try using some free time on the weekends to do most of your prep work. You can chop up a weeks’ worth of roasting vegetables within an hour. Don’t be tempted to buy chocolate and sweets to keep in the cupboard for guests or ‘emergencies’. If it’s there you will eat it! Out of sight, out of mind.

Replace What You’ve Lost

A smoker doesn’t quit without any help. They are offered nicotine patches, chewing gum and other ways of relieving their cravings while coming through the initial stages. It’s the same for any kind of addiction. When it comes to sugar, you need to replace refined sugars with natural sugars, like those found in fruit. You may want to take a look at some of the tips and advice from places like boulder co. Get yourself a good selection of fruits and when you feel the need for a sugary snack, grab an apple instead of a bar of chocolate.

Make Your Own

Store bought sauces and dressings come with a shocking amount of sugar included. If you use sauces in your cooking on a regular basis, you may find it valuable to make your own. Why not try out this recipe for pasta sauce? You can also start making smoothies or juicing your fruit and veg to make sure you’re getting enough nutrients in your diet. When you switch from unhealthy eating to healthy eating, you’ll be surprised how quickly you notice the changes.

Treat Yourself Once in a While

Once you’ve gone without sugar for a few weeks, you could slowly start to introduce it back into your diet. After all, it’s not something you need to completely avoid. However, by this time you should be able to control how much you’re eating and how often. For example, if you go out for a meal once a week, it’s okay to treat yourself to dessert. It doesn’t mean you can demolish a box of chocolates every time you have a bad day at work.

With the amount of sugar put into our foods, it has become no less than an addiction for many. Kick the habit and watch the results take place.

Like a Virgin: Preparing Yourself for Your First Music Festival

Like a Virgin: Preparing Yourself for Your First Music Festival

Summer is coming, and chances are you’re drawing together a list of plans and activities for the warmer months. Who can blame you? We all want to make the most of the good weather while it’s around. Top of many people’s lists will be a music festival. Our newsfeeds are full of pictures of celebrities wandering about Coachella and Firefly, and we want to try them out too! But when it comes down to it, festivals for the average person aren’t as glamorous and chic as the celebs make out. It’s a long weekend of camping, little sleep, mud, and dirt. But at the same time, all of these things contribute to what will be one of the best experiences of your life. So, how to go about delving into the festival lifestyle while still looking and feeling good?

Planning

If you want to have a good festival experience, you’re going to have to become organized. Make sure that you purchase your tickets for any live music event directly from the source or from a trusted reseller like The Ticket Merchant. This helps to avoid the disappointment that can occur when tickets are fake or don’t arrive at all.

Camping Gear

You’re facing the elements for an extended period, so it’s worth investing in a decent bit of camping gear. Make sure that your tent is of good enough quality that it doesn’t leak. There’s nothing worse than returning to a flooded tent filled with soaked clothes and soggy sleeping bags. Your sleeping bags should be warm and made from good insulating fabrics. It may be summer, but temperatures drop dramatically at night, so you’ll want to be tucked up nice and warm for a decent night’s sleep.

Side note: Bringing a hammock in your backpack for the Woodlands of Dover for Firefly can give you a great option to lay and chill while listening to some amazing artists on the main stage.

Toiletries

Alongside camping gear, you’re also going to need to pack your bag with the essentials to get you through a weekend without proper showers, beds, and electronics. A few necessary bits and bobs should include baby wipes, hand sanitizer, dry shampoo, a toothbrush with toothpaste and plenty of deodorants. Whatever is necessary to keep you fresh and clean in the outdoors.

First Aid

You should take along a small first aid kit packed with plasters, bandages and antiseptic wipes. These will all come in invaluable if you end up with cuts and scrapes or rubbing from wellies. Take some tablets too; paracetamol or ibuprofen are a must for any festival goer. Ladies, remember to take plenty of sanitary products too.

Make Up

Chances are, you’re not going to be too focused on your makeup. You will be getting ready in a tent and will be more focused on getting to see your favorite band than sticking fake eyelashes on. But festivals are a time when you can get creative with your look. Pack plenty of glitter, stick on jewels and anything else that you wouldn’t usually be able to get with on a day to day basis. It’s time for you to stand out with statement hair pieces and bold colors. Make heads turn.

When Money Is No Object: Luxury Home Improvement Ideas

When Money Is No Object: Luxury Home Improvement Ideas

Do you want to improve your home and ensure it’s perfect for your family for many years to come? Then you’ve stumbled upon the right article today. I’m going to make some suggestions in this post designed for people with a lot of money to spend. Don’t worry if you’re on a tight budget, as there are many other pages on this blog with information for you. Today, I’m focusing on the changes you could make if you had more than enough cash in the bank. With a bit of luck, these suggestions will help to point you in the right direction. At the very least, they should give you some inspiration and assist you in setting some goals.

Build an extension and add an indoor pool

How amazing would it be to have an indoor pool in your home? Well, it’s not as far-fetched as it sounds. Many homeowners build extensions for that purpose every single year. It all comes down to your budget and the amount of land you own. Of course, pools use a lot of electricity, and you won’t want to harm the planet. So, it makes sense to install lots of solar panels if you like that idea. With a bit of luck, you will create enough energy to power the pool without hurting our eco-system. Place them on the roof of your new extension for the best results.

Add a games room with a bar

Everyone needs somewhere to relax at home. If money’s no object, you might consider adding a games room with a working bar. You can use that space to entertain guests or unwind after a long day at the office. Of course, you are free to use your imagination when it comes to the design of the room. Most people would choose to purchase pool tables or something similar. Perhaps you want to go further, and you like to idea of having a basketball hoop? The possibilities are endless and only limited by your imagination.

Opt for a complete professional renovation

Lastly, you might consider renovating your entire property from top to bottom. Most people don’t like that suggestion because they think it would cause lots of disruption. However, a decent renovation company could perform the entire task in under six weeks. With the school holidays fast approaching, now would be the best time to put the wheels in motion. The best thing about that concept if you get a new home without having to move. You keep control over all the design aspects, and you just need to discuss your requirements. If I had the money, that’s what I’d do.

That’s about it for today. Still, I hoped you enjoyed reading by luxury home improvement ideas. Remember, this is not a complete guide, and you don’t have to use any of my suggestions. I just wanted to show you what you can achieve when you don’t have to stress about finance. As I just mentioned, the summer is upon us, and so it’s best to get started as soon as possible. Good luck!
