It is advisable to replace them instead since they are quite cheap. If your filter is made of plastic or foam, you can easily give it a good wash using water and soap.

If you are not 100% satisfied about the suction power of your vacuum then it is probably time to have the filter replaced. For example, if you don’t use the vacuum every day, you will probably get away with using your filter longer. Moreover, if you are using it to clean low traffic areas, it won’t be picking up much dust to begin with. By the same token, you will have to replace your filter frequently if you use your vacuum in high traffic areas. This is also true if you have a big family of kids and pets in the household.
