What Greasy Hair Could Really Be Telling You.

Problem:
Hi Tia, love your site! My problem is my hair is looking greasy, after I wash it. I tried changing shampoo, but by the end of the day, it’s still looking like I haven’t washed it for days. What can I do? B.

Tip from Tia:
First off, thank you so much for reading! Yes, when hair gets limp and heavy, switching shampoo’s is the first step, because of build up, using a clarifying shampoo can break that down, to bring back clean strands.

Now, if that hasn’t worked for you and your hair is looking greasy by midday, your problem could be your scalp is actually excessively dry. And when the skin gets over dry, the natural defense is to lube it up and your body releases extra oils. The other part of that could be, your pores in the scalp are clogged in certain areas and it’s over oiling in other spots to compensate. Blocked pores are not a good thing they can lead to other problems, so unclogging is the first step. This is important for both women and men to know.

Here’s what you need to do. Get tea tree oil and add some to the palm of your hand and add in your shampoo, or get shampoo that has tea tree oil in it. Lather it up at the scalp and bring down to the ends. Let it sit on the scalp for a few minutes, you may feel a light tingle sensation. Rinse. This will unclog any pores. Tea tree oil has antibiotic and anti-fungal properties. (side note: the smell of tea tree can seem extreme at first, but the smell does diminish, and the aroma left behind can be appealing and easy enough to get use too. Plus, the results are usually worth the smell, if you don’t like it.)

Next you can choose to use conditioner on strands first then running it up towards the scalp, or do a scalp conditioning to your scalp with olive oil. putting olive oil on the scalp will moisturize the scalp without clogging the pores back up. Leave the oil on the hair for about five minutes and rinse out, then you can apply your regular conditioner to your ends working up the the root.

Doing this treatment once a month can help keep your hair in good balance.
