You might show concerns about your family’s health every step of the way, but have you taken the time to consider what aspects of your partner’s health need examining? If you’ve got a hubby who is, like so many men, afraid of going to the doctor, a major health condition or worse could be right around the corner. So, instead of getting to that point, it might be best to encourage them to take the right supplements. What are the best ones as men age?

Boron

Not typically mentioned in the roster of essential supplements. But for men, where prostate cancer is one of the, if not the most common cancer, boron supplements will help to prevent the development of prostate cancer. Men with the highest rate of boron in their bodies are 65% less likely to develop prostate cancer. In addition to this, it’s beneficial for concentration and memory.

Testosterone

As men age, their hormone levels start to go awry. As testosterone provides many of the essential functions in men, including strength, they can take a testosterone supplement, or for general hormone deficiency, there are herbs like Tongkat Ali and offshoots like Eurycomanone. You can buy Eurycomanone easily online. But as men age, their testosterone levels drop, and it’s vital that men keep their levels up.

Omega-3

We’ve all heard by now how omega-3 is essential for overall health. Its biggest benefit is for protecting your heart. As omega-3 fatty acids keep your blood pressure under control, this will help your heart beat regularly. You can get your fill of omega-3 from oily fish such as mackerel or salmon, or you can purchase an omega-3 supplement easily over the counter.

Glucosamine

As men get older, cartilage in the joints wears away. If your man likes to go running or put his body under a lot of pressure, this cartilage will wear away after time. Various supplements include glucosamine, MSM, and chondroitin, which form a powerhouse trio in protecting your joints. If you want to go the long way round in protecting your joints, you can join the bone broth bandwagon, and make soups and stews, using the bones of grass-fed animals, which releases collagen. It is also great for your skin, as it promotes its elasticity.

Creatine

Creatine in high doses is not that good. And there are many concerns about the side effects of prolonged use, but creatine in small doses isn’t just fantastic for boosting muscle, but it’s fantastic for the mind. There are various creatine supplements available, and if your man works out, then it’s a very beneficial substance to have in the short term.

If the man in your life refuses to go to the doctor, then it’s so important that you get them the most important supplements for overall body and brain composition. But, if you notice long-term problems, it’s vital that they go to the doctor. As far as maintaining day-to-day health is concerned, supplements are great, but they still need medical help where necessary.

Most Common Sports Injuries and How to Treat Them

Most Common Sports Injuries and How to Treat Them

Even though physical activity is the best thing you can do for your body, when you are not being careful, many bad things can happen. Whether you are a professional athlete, a weekend warrior, or a rookie, you still have a chance to get injured. Some injuries may only require a great, hands-on professional sports massage. However, some might need more extensive treatment.

When it comes to injuries themselves, there are countless types and variations, but still, some parts of our body are simply more prone to damage than others.

And in the sea of countless sports injuries, here is the list of the most common ones, along with the ways to treat them.

Read: 3 FANTASTIC WAYS TO EXCEL IN SPORTS

Strained hip flexor

Hip flexors are actually the muscles on the upper front side of thighs. Their main functions are lifting knees towards the trunk and assisting with moving legs toward and away from each other. These muscles can become weak in individuals who spend a lot of time sitting and have a poor posture while sitting.

Sports injuries to this muscle are usually caused by sprinting, inclined running and other activities that involve quick turns and sudden starts.

Symptoms include pain while raising the leg, climbing stairs, or getting out of the car, as well as running. Bruising in the front of the upper thighs and groin may also occur.

The best way to treat a strained hip flexor is to rest and icing for approximately 20 minutes at a time for the first 72 hours. After those first days of recovery, it is time to apply heat for 20 minutes, followed by laying down and gently sliding heels and stretching hip flexor.

If symptoms, pain and limited movement are still present after two weeks, you should make an urgent visit to the doctor’s office.

Torn or strained ACL

The anterior cruciate ligament, or ACL, is the major kneel stabilizing ligament. The most common cause of ACL injury is slowing down and trying to pivot, cut or change direction. When ligaments inside the knee are torn, consequences can be severe.

Common ACL tear symptoms are instability when walking or turning corners and increased swelling in the knee. However, even though a light strain or tear can be healed with the help of ice and rest, a complete tear requires surgery and a couple of months of recovery with a very aggressive physical therapy regimen.

Pulled groin

This is also called a groin strain. The groin muscles run from the inner thigh right above the knee up to the upper inner thigh. They pull our legs together and can be injured when performing quick side-to-side movements. The injured person will notice difficulty with lateral movements such as getting in and out of the car, as well as bruising and tenderness in the inner thigh or groin.

Treatment includes rest and icing for 20 minutes periodically during the first three days and heat after those three days, followed by gentle and proper stretching and range motion exercises.

Shin Splints

The most common symptom of a shin splint is pain in the tibia – the lower leg bone. Usually, athletes who participate in activities that involve a lot of running (such as soccer players) are the ones who get this injury.

The best way to treat a shin splint is by icing, resting, and gradually increasing all running activities. Shoes with quality support also play a major role here.

Sciatica

This is actually a back pain that can travel down the back of your leg and even your feet. The feeling can be associated with burning, numbness, and tingling down the leg. It is usually seen in athletes who are often in a flexed forward posture, like cyclists, and ones who perform a lot of trunk rotation like golf and tennis players do. The pain itself can be caused by a pinched nerve or a bulging disc.

To alleviate the symptoms, try laying on your stomach or stretching your back and hamstrings. And if the pain persists for more than two weeks, seek medical assistance.

Strained hamstring

Hamstrings are muscles located on the back of the thighs. Unfortunately, they can get tight and are susceptible to strain and injury (pulled muscle). One of the biggest causes is definitely improper stretching and lack of stretching.

This can be treated with icing and rest in early phases, followed by gentle stretching and overall strengthening in order to prevent another injury. If the pain lasts longer than two weeks, the athlete should turn to physical therapy or ultrasound treatments.

Golf or tennis elbow

This injury is usually seen in athletes who perform many gripping activities, just like golf and tennis players – hence the name. Due to strong and repetitive action, forearm tendons become inflamed and make lifting things, making a grip, opening the door, shaking hands, and raising your hand or straightening your wrist very painful. Athletes also complain that their grip is weak.

Doctors treat this with anti-inflammatory medications and braces in order to take the pressure away from the area and prevent further injuries. Stretching techniques applied by a physical or occupational therapist can also break down that stiffness and build strength gradually.

Cracked tooth

Believe it or not, but according to American Dental Assistants’ Association, every year around 5 million Americans lose teeth in sports-related injuries and probably the most common of them is a cracked tooth.

A cracked tooth happens when a player sustains a sudden blow to the face. Symptoms include a sharp pain when biting down, constantly present tooth pain, especially when eating and drinking, and losing a section of the outer enamel shell. However, this injury isn’t always visible to the naked eye, and a person may not even experience any pain, so there is another reason for doing dental checkups regularly.

When it comes to treating it, it depends entirely on the dentist, but when it comes to preventing it, wearing custom dental sports mouthguards during a boxing or any full-contact sports session is mandatory.

A concussion is an injury to the brain due to head trauma when the brain is shaken or jarred. Concussions are extremely serious and should never be taken lightly. An athlete who experiences this injury should immediately seek the help of a professional who has experience in treating concussions.

Symptoms include confusion, dizziness, headache, nausea, slurred speech, light sensitivity, and delayed response to questions.

Common treatment involves rest with minimal mental or physical stress.

Just because there is a risk of getting hurt, doesn’t mean you should now give up on doing sports. However, just like everything else in life, you have to be smart about it. Never forget to stretch, wear quality sports gear, and you won’t have to worry about anything.

Natural Ways To Care For Sensitive Skin

Natural Ways To Care For Sensitive Skin

Unfortunately, some people have much more sensitive skin than others. It would be nice if we could subject our outer layers to the same kind of abuse as some without the consequences, but instead, you might end up with rashes, irritation, inflammation, and exacerbating issues like eczema. When treating sensitive skin, you have to be careful to what you put on it, as well. Here are a few changes you can make to start treating your skin a little kindlier and hopefully help it start behaving, too.

Clean carefully

Sensitive skin doesn’t react only to how you treat it, but the environment you surround it in, as well. For a lot of people, most of their irritation may actually come from their home. The dust and debris that gathers are an allergen themselves and can certainly irritate the skin. But the methods by which we clean them can be just as harmful. Bleaches and many household cleaning products contain chemicals like ammonia and sodium lauryl sulphate. These might not be too harmful for the average person. If you have allergies or sensitive skin, however, you might have a much better time turning to green cleaning products. Lemon juice or vinegar can be mixed into water to create a surface cleaning solution, for instance, while baking soda and warm water can help you clean stains out from fabrics.

Treat thoughtfully

If you have a skin condition such as chronic inflammation, acne, or eczema, you want to make sure you’re taking some kind of effort to treat it. However, you may be aware that certain medications or creams that contain ingredients like steroids can end up causing your skin to thin, making it even more sensitive and prone to irritation. Dermveda.com shows some examples of alternative treatments that can be used to treat eczema, including using natural oils like coconut oil, Shea butter, or other medications like calcineurin inhibitors. When you talk to your doctor about treatments for your skin, don’t forget to bring up your ongoing skin sensitivity and see if there aren’t other medications or home treatments they might be able to suggest.

Beautify benignly

We all want to look our best, sensitive skin or no. If you’re like a lot of women, you have not just your makeup but your morning and nighttime skin care routines. But little do most know that the ingredients in so-called skin care isn’t always the healthiest. Annmariegianni.com sums up the ingredients you should start looking out for and the effects they can have that do the opposite of what those products are supposed to help with. Fragrances are one of the most notorious, using that label to cover all kinds of ingredients that can dry, age, and irritate your skin even further. Get into the habit of reading the labels for those red flag ingredients before buying skin care products.

Sensitive skin isn’t always the easiest to handle and if you start suffering serious problems with it, it’s time to visit your dermatologist. For everyday care, however, the tips above can help you keep the peace and avoid those unsightly breakouts.

The Importance Of Teaching Young Kids About Healthy Relationships

The Importance Of Teaching Young Kids About Healthy Relationships

When raising our children, it’s all too tempting to think of them in a vacuum. They are, after all, the center of your universe and it’s hard to envisage a world where they’re not at your side/ However, we can’t escape the fact that before we know it, they’ll be out in the real world paying bills, getting stuck in traffic, doing their laundry (hopefully) and, yes, getting into relationships. Relationships may not seem like a priority subject to address with young kids. You have so much on your plate, logistically that it seems appropriate to deal with issues as and when they arise. Nonetheless, there’s never a bad time to start teaching kids about healthy relationships. Even young kids understand relationships on a surface level. You’ll see them holding hands with other kids on the playground and playing house. But while this dramatic play shows a surface level understanding of what a relationship is, it’s up to us as parents to explain the more meaningful aspects of what a relationship is and should be…

It starts with you

Never forget that their children will base their expectations for their future relationships on you and the relationship you have with your co-parent or significant other. Thus, it’s important not only to talk the talk but to walk the walk, too. Take every opportunity you can to model positive relationships with your partner. Be forthcoming in your affections as well as keeping your head in times of conflict. This will help them to find healthy ways forms of conflict resolution in their adult life.

Keep their expectations realistic

While no parent relishes the prospect of their son or daughter having to find a divorce attorney, it’s important that kids grow up with a realistic understanding of what relationships can be, what they should be, and that not every relationship is for life. While a separation is a heartbreak that we’d rather we didn’t see them go through, it’s infinitely preferable to watching them spend years or even decades settling for someone you (and they) know that they aren’t truly happy with. Not everyone they encounter with will be “the one†and by keeping their expectations realistic and teaching them that every relationship has a shelf life, you’ll reduce the risk of them settling for less than they deserve.

R-E-S-P-E-C-T

Every meaningful relationship has to be built on a foundation of mutual respect. Many parents show their kids the value of giving respect to their peers, to their authority figures, and of course to their parents. It’s equally important, however, to teach kids to expect respect for themselves. Far too many of us fall into unhealthy relationships because we don’t respect ourselves or don’t know how to identify when we aren’t being treated with the proper respect. It’s really important that you define the parameters of what respect actually means with your kids. Respect is not adoration or adulation, nor is it being showered with gifts. It’s being heard, understood, appreciated and valued. If your kids have self respect and know how to respect others they’ll enter the world of dating and relationships with confidence.

Pack Man: Making Moving Into A Game

Pack Man: Making Moving Into A Game

(Image Link)

When you have work, school, and a huge list of other commitments to handle each day, the idea of spending time moving home can feel like a chore. Already spending much of your time doing things which aren’t fun, it will feel bad to spend so much effort on something like this, leaving a lot of people to stay in places which they don’t like. This is a shame, though, and it doesn’t take much to solve it. To help you out, this post will be exploring some of the easiest ways to make this part of life into a game, all while giving you some advice in the process.

Finding The Place

The place you choose will be very important to the time you have there. A lot of people will rely on estate agents to handle this part of the job for them, leaving all of the work to someone else. Of course, though, this sort of approach is rarely much fun, and could be greatly enhanced with a couple of games. Starting the process with a professional will single the beginning of a race. You will be working to beat the estate agent, showing your skills in a field which you don’t belong to.

Packing Things Up

Once you have a place in mind, you will be ready to start the long process of packing all of your possessions into boxes for transport. Moving is never easy, though, leaving a lot of people to rely on professionals to help them. Instead, creating a game out of your packing will be a great idea. This sort of option can be based mostly on time, and you can work hard to beat your past personal bests as a way to make it more fun.

Making The Move

The move itself could also be a bit of a pain, as a lot of people don’t have the skills or credentials to drive a large vehicle. Of course, for this option, the gamification won’t come in the form of driving, as you will probably have to pay someone to do this for you. To get some fun out of it, you can focus on the time before and after the drive, when the van is being packed.

Getting Things Ready

Finally, as the last area to consider, getting everything ready at the other end will be one of the funniest parts of your move. Most people will enjoy laying out rooms and assembling furniture, making the whole thing much more entertaining. Adding a little more to this won’t be too much effort, either. A lot of people find that unpacking efficiently is a big challenge, and this can give you something to aspire to while exploring.

Hopefully, this post will inspire you to start working harder on the time you put into your next house move. This part of life doesn’t have to be dull or stressful, as long as you’re willing to put the effort in to make things right and have enough time to spend on it.
