Fear of The Dentist: A Survival Guide

Fear of The Dentist: A Survival Guide

Source: Fotonerd

Fear of the dentist is incredibly common in adults, which may come as a surprise to most people. Predominantly, being afraid of a visit to the dentist is thought to be a problem that occurs in childhood but is then resolved in adulthood— the statistics, however, disagree with this. Estimates by experts vary in number, but it is thought that between 5 and 8% of the population are genuinely terrified of the dentist, to the point they will forgo their dental health in an effort to avoid the issue. Dental health checks are incredibly important, but thousands of people choose to go without due to their phobia.

If you’re afraid of the dentist, then you may find it comforting to know you are not alone in your fears— but it’s also an issue you’re going to have to eventually confront. Your dental health is a vital part of your overall health, and you deserve to live without a perpetual fear of something that is so routine. Below are a few ideas and strategies that can help to resolve dentophobia once and for all.

#1 – Choose a dentist that practices sedation dentistry

Sedation dentistry is the same in practice as standard dentistry; you’ll receive the same treatment and clinical rigor as you would expect from any dentist. However, by choosing sedation dentistry, you can be assured of a more peaceful experience with the help of medication. This will allow you to feel at ease throughout the procedure, safe in the hands of the expert clinical staff who will monitor you throughout your treatment. Sedation dentistry is a life-changer for those who have previously been too afraid to visit the dentist at all, so finding a dentist that offers this service is definitely a benefit for patients with dentophobia.

#2 – Overcome bad experiences

Some people are afraid of the dentist for no particular reason, but many cases of dentophobia have their roots in prior bad experiences. If you have been through a trying dental care experience, then it’s natural to be hesitant about getting in the chair again. It’s important to treat what you experienced with the adequate respect; you may even be suffering a form of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) due to previous mistreatment. If this is the case, counselling may help you come to terms with your past experience, and allow you to move on to a more productive dental care experience in the future.

#3 – Demystify the dentist

One of the main contributors to all phobias is a fear of the unknown— that’s why a fear of the dark is such a common thing. If you don’t truly understand what is going to happen during a dental procedure, you are likely to catastrophize the situation in your mind, which is just going to stoke fear and concern. Ask to speak to your dentist prior to your visit; this gives you a chance to fully understand what’s going to happen in detail. After all, to be forewarned is to be prepared.

In conclusion

Hopefully, the above strategies may be able to allow you to move past your dentophobia and obtain the dental care that you need. Good luck!

Common Beauty Insecurities And How To Get Over Them For Good!

Common Beauty Insecurities And How To Get Over Them For Good!

There’s no shame in being insecure about something. In many ways, if you’re not insecure about anything, then you’re probably not human! It’s a natural way of life, we all have elements of ourselves that we don’t like. What’s more, it can take a lot to put these negative thoughts out of our mind and get over our insecurities for good. As such, every day is spent looking in the mirror and focusing on the little things that we don’t like, rather than the things we do like.

We all have different insecurities, but some are more common than others. Today, I’m going to look at the most prevalent beauty insecurities in modern women, and provide a bit of advice to help you get over them for good. My main hope is that this little guide can help all of you to start loving yourselves more!

My Face Is Full Of Spots

So many women are insecure about their appearance because they have breakouts on their face. They think this makes them look super ugly, and they’ll try and cover the spots up as well as possible. Often, this means going overboard with foundation, which just fuels the spots and makes the breakout even worse.

When you have constant issues with spots, it makes you so insecure that you’ll avoid leaving the house unless it’s essential. The thing is, there are so many solutions to this problem, and you’re probably going about it the wrong way. Instead of trying to cover your spots up with loads of makeup, work on addressing the cause of them. Is it because your skin is too greasy or oily? If so, work on cleansing your pores and taking better care of your face. Also, never sleep with makeup on and always wash your face before bed! Then, apply a thin layer of makeup, and only when necessary. If you’re not going anywhere, don’t bother with makeup around the house! If all else fails, see a doctor and they can prescribe acne medication to help you out.

My Boobs Are Too Small

When it comes to insecurities on the body, your breasts are usually at the top of the list. So many girls fear that they’re unattractive because they don’t have big boobs. Once more, the media has a lot to answer for this, as we’ve constantly seen attractive women with big breasts as leading roles in films, on magazine covers, and getting most of the limelight. Needless to say, you can feel very insecure when you don’t have big breasts, and this stops you from wearing things you might like the look of – such as crop tops, bikinis, low-cut dresses, and so on.

The good news is there are both temporary and permanent solutions to this insecurity. If you’re super self-conscious about your breast size and would kill to make them bigger, then why don’t you? Breast augmentation is common, and you can subtly enhance the look of your breasts if you want. It’s not for everyone, and I strongly suggest you see surgery details before you go through with this. This is the permanent solution, and the temporary ones can help give your boobs the appearance of being bigger, without actually changing their size. Things like push-up bras or padding can help make your boobs look bigger and fuller. You’ll be very surprised at how much of a difference a good push up bra makes to your breasts, and this can be all you need for a little confidence boost.

My Legs Are Too Chunky

Another body insecurity most women have is with their legs. A lot of girls see their thighs as being too chunky and wobbly. They feel like they jiggle when you walk, and it can make you so insecure. Especially around the spring/summer seasons where it gets hot, and loads of people wear shorts and skirts. You feel very insecure because you see everyone’s nice legs, and you think you’re being judged for being the only person still wearing jeans.

The reality is, you can easily take care of this insecurity if you’re willing to put in the hard work. All you have to do is start exercising and eating right. This will help you lose body fat, which slims down your thighs. They’ll lose that ‘chunkiness’ you don’t like, and you can also tone them up by doing squats and leg workouts. In fact, I’ll leave a video down below this paragraph of a sample leg workout to help you add muscle tone and firmness. In a matter of weeks, you can transform the way your legs look and feel a lot more secure about them.

My Eyebrows Are Too Light

Finally, we end things off with another insecurity that’s found on your face. Having light eyebrows has become a really big issue in modern times. There seems to be a big beauty trend at the moment where good eyebrows are a must. Everyone wants nice dark brows that are shaped well and finely trimmed. If yours are too light, then it looks like you have none at all, which causes major insecurities.

Again, there are both permanent and temporary solutions here. The temporary one is simply drawing on your eyebrows whenever you want to go out. Once more, I’ll link a video below this paragraph that gives a few tips on how to do this and make your brows look natural. When done correctly, you’ll see the effect looks so real, and no one will guess your eyebrows are really very light. The permanent solution is to get something known as an eyebrow tattoo. Essentially, you get eyebrows tattooed on you, so they always look a lot darker. It’s not for everyone and can be quite expensive. But, if you’re really insecure and can’t bear to even walk around the house with your natural brows, then this may be your best option.

As I said earlier, I really want this guide to help everyone with these insecurities. First and foremost; don’t be ashamed if you’re insecure. Secondly; don’t be ashamed about wanting to change things about yourself. A lot of people say you should just grow to love your insecurities, but it’s not as easy as that. Some people get really badly affected by the things mentioned on this list, so doing things to change the way you look can help you love yourself for once!

How To Bring More Wildlife Into Your Garden

How To Bring More Wildlife Into Your Garden

Having a garden is having that special somewhere to take a deep breath of that wonderful fresh spring air. There are so many things that you can do to make it your own, by the things you plant, to what you do inside it. You can host regular barbecue parties full of your closest friends and family. Or you could grow your own fruit, vegetables and herbs and live a sustainable life. The options are endless, and that’s part of the fun of having a garden to play around with.

But what about making it an animal sanctuary? If you love nature and wildlife, then what better way to show that off than catering your garden to it all?

Here’s how you can do just that.

Water.

Water is not only a lovely addition to have in your garden for yourself visually, as well as being able to listen to the wonderful sounds it makes as it moves, but a lot of animals will thank you for having it there too. A birdbath allows birds to take a quick break to rehydrate, while having a little wash too. Some squirrels may even come if they’re brave enough. Water also attracts butterflies and dragonflies too, as it’s cooling and fresh in the hotter days, and they show off their stunning patterns of colour that are displayed on their bodies and wings, making it a truly special sight.

Trees.

Trees are a great way to attract more wildlife as they provide shelter for them, as well being a food source too. Take live oak trees as an example. Acorns fall off in the autumn, and there are plenty of small animals that will eat them, like squirrels and birds. They also have the perfect branches to hang feeders on, and even to install owl nesting boxes. Then you can sit back and bird watch as your garden gets visits from species that you may have never seen before.

Flowers.

Flowers create pollen, and pollen is needed for the bees in order to feed their colony, but they are also what create us with more beauty as they pollinate other plants for us naturally. You may find things growing in your garden that has a magical colour that you haven’t seen before, and this can all be thanks to your bees. Flowers also create nectar which certain birds feed off, as well as butterflies. Plus, don’t forget that flowers smell divine, and you get to experience that whenever the wind blows, or you skim your hand across them as you walk past. And this stimulates your senses that cause chemicals to release in your brain that make you feel oh so good.

So what more are you waiting for? Focus on all these additions and you will see that within no time, your garden is full of so much life. You can then escape away to this safe haven and be at one with the nature and all the animals that reside along with it.

Looking Younger? It’s A Matter Of Routine

Looking Younger? It’s A Matter Of Routine

Wikimedia

The tensions of now and stresses of the future all form to make this one almighty ball of stress that doesn’t just impact our frame of mind, but it shows up on our face! Let’s face it, when we age, we are constantly fighting against Old Mother Time, and there aren’t enough beauty regimes out there for us to take advantage of so that we can disguise the signs of aging. But what’s the trick? It’s all about getting some good quality routines in place so you can fight the good fight…

Practice Facial Exercises

Have you heard about this? There are some facial exercises that have been shown to reduce the signs of aging by three years. As our face invariably sags as we get older, this is because of the fat pads underneath our skin getting thinner. And while there’s not much evidence to show that these facial exercises help scientifically, you only have to look at the before and after pictures of people who’ve tried it to see the impact!

Disguise The Problem Areas

Highlight your attributes, but disguise the areas that make you feel, and look, inadequate. As we get older, gravity takes its toll, and this is where a push up bra really gives you that lift! Apparently, over 80% of women are wearing the wrong size bra. So, if you are doing your breasts a disservice, get fitted at the lingerie store to make sure that you are wearing the right size, and getting the best coverage and support.

Consume More Vitamins

Generally, we don’t consume enough. When it comes to looking younger, there are some essential vitamins and minerals you need. Lycopene, commonly found in tomatoes, gives your skin protection against UV rays. But also, vegetables like kale are full of vitamin k, which helps the coagulation of your blood. This will limit your bruising. In addition to this, healthy oils, such as omega-3 fatty acids, commonly found in fish, is going to give your skin a youthful glow.

Drink More Water

This is the key. Lots of us don’t drink enough to hydrate our skin. If your skin looks dull and dry, this will mean more wrinkles forming. Instead, to make your skin look plumper, drink more water, and reduce the amount of dehydrating foods and drinks, such as alcohol, sugar, and salt, but also cut down on smoking. We all know that if we want to look 25 years older than we actually are, then smoking is the best way to get there quick!

Calm Down

To look younger, it’s about making sure that you look great on the outside, but you’ll feel great on the inside. Stress, and specifically, worrying about your looks is going to pile on the stress, which is going to add more wrinkles, and it becomes a never-ending cycle. Instead, as well as having a beauty routine, take the time to calm down. This means practicing something like mindfulness, but also learning how to manage your stress will reduce the amount of cortisol, the stress hormone, that will age you terribly.
