How to cool a memory foam mattress?

Memory foam mattresses are very comfortable. But unfortunately some of them are just too hot to sleep on. As a result, you might not be getting enough sleep or waking up feeling very tired even though you have a high quality memory foam mattress and you need to immediately find the best hot mattress solutions so that you can sleep well.

Your memory foam mattress gets too hot because you are in direct contact with a foam block. It is normal that it heats up and it won’t be a nice feeling. So in this article we will provide you with the best hot mattress solutions:

1-     Use a mattress cover:

A mattress cover will allow your body to cool off. Many people feel very comfortable with their foam mattresses that they don’t want to change them even if they are too hot. But with a mattress cover, you can hardly feel any difference.

You should choose a mattress cover that is breathable and designed to absorb your sweat. The mattress cover will also protect your mattress from stains and spills and it can be easily washed in the washing machine.

2-     Use a Mattress Topper :

This is one of the best hot mattress solutions. Mattress toppers are designed to provide more cushioning. But you already have a foam mattress and you don’t need any more cushioning. So in this case, you should go for a thin mattress topper, ideally from 1 to 3 inches.

When you choose to buy a topper, you are actually creating insulation between your body and the foam in the mattress. It is normal that your body heats up during sleep, but sleeping on the mattress will heat up the foam too. That is why; you should use a mattress topper that is not made from foam so that it doesn’t transfer your body heat to the mattress where it gets trapped.

Cotton is used to make mattress toppers because it is breathable and will act as a barrier between your body and the mattress. Wool is another material that will draw the moisture away from your body and will make you cooler.

3-     Use the right sheets:

Some materials are known to trap heat more than others. Synthetic materials in general heat up way more than natural ones. If you always wake up sweaty, this means that you are not getting the comforting type of sleep. Moreover, some people will wake up no matter how tired they are because their mattresses are too hot. Go for sheets that are made from materials like cotton. Choose a thread count between 200 and 800, to ensure that your body heat will not be transferred to the mattress. Sateen is a cheaper option to silk and will stay very cool. Bamboo sheets will keep your body very dry as it absorbs your body moisture while feeling like cashmere.

4-     Control the temperature in your room:

You can keep your room cool by adjusting the AC temperature, keep a fan going or keep a window open. Bed fans are designed to blow air under the bed and along the sheets. They are usually very quiet and the speed can be adjusted with a remote control without ever having to leave your bed.

Conclusion:

Cooling your mattress can improve the overall quality of your sleep which will have a positive effect on your health. Follow these tips to have the best hot mattress solutions and make sure that you are having a night of uninterrupted sleep.

How to clean a mattress

By Guest Blogger, David H.

How to clean a mattress

Many people ignore the importance of cleaning their mattresses although it can lead to serious health problems. Some people spend years trying to cure acne or asthma not knowing that their mattresses are the main reason why they are not getting any better. Even though you sleep on the bed sheets, your mattress is still subject to dust, dead skin cells and other allergens that can cause serious respiratory and skin problems. In this article we will highlight the best ways to clean a mattress:

  1. Vacuum your mattress:

Even with changing your sheets every other day, dust and skin cells would still reach your mattress. We shed skin cells as we sleep, and while we don’t directly sleep on the mattress, some of these cells do end up on the mattress’s surface. You need to vacuum your mattress every week to remove accumulated dust, pet hair and food crumbs. Not removing the dust can make your mattress the best home for dust mites and bed bugs which are very dangerous.

  1. Spot clean new stains:

The best way to clean a mattress is to treat spots as soon as they happen. This is will prevent the spill from sinking into the mattress. As soon as you have a spill, you should make sure that you have absorbed most of the moisture before trying to clean the stain. You can use tissue paper to absorb the moisture before trying to clean the stain. Always clean the stain from the outside towards the center. Avoid rubbing as it will make the stain sink in deeper into the mattress. You can use baking soda with water to remove tough stains. Let it dry then vacuum away the white powder.

  1. Deal with old stains:

Maybe you don’t feel that you need to replace your mattress just yet, but it doesn’t mean that you have to ignore old stains. Once stains have dried they become very tough to deal with. When bodily fluids like sweat and blood dry out they combine with the mattress fabric and they become very hard to remove. Use an enzyme cleaner to clean old stains. They break down stains and odors. You can also use a mixture of hydrogen peroxide, dish soap and baking soda to remove tough stains.

  1. Deodorize your mattress:

Cleaning a mattress means to keep it smelling fresh and clean. Even after removing stains you will not feel that your mattress smells clean all the time. Prepare a mixture of lemon juice and water to remove the bad odors and to keep your mattress smelling nice for some time.

  1. Disinfect your mattress:

Lemon juice and vinegar can also disinfect your mattress by killing all the bacteria and the germs. Using a chemical disinfectant can activate allergies.

  1. Air your mattress:

The best thing you can do is to leave your mattress in the air and in the sun. It might not be easy but you need to properly ventilate your mattress at least once a month. This will kill the bacteria and the germs.

These are the best tips to clean a mattress that will likely make your mattress live for a long time. Sleeping on a clean mattress will improve the quality of your sleep and will fix a lot of health problems.

Here we provide some of the most effective home treatments for bacterial vaginosis which are all easy to perform at home in order to completely manage the condition.

It is recommended by many gynecologists to support the treatment of bacterial vaginosis with yogurt. Lactobacillus acidophilus – a good type of bacteria in yogurt holds the power to reestablish the pH level in the vagina.  One cup of yogurt in your daily diet also gives your immune system a happy boost, which helps our body fight against bacteria more effectively.

  1. Tea Tree Oil

The powerful antifungal and antibacterial properties make tea tree oil a hero when treating with bacterial vaginosis. It is very effective in killing harmful bacteria and alleviating the symptoms. It is also ideal if you can avoid intercourse until the doctor says your vagina are free from bacterial vaginosis to because those activities can bring harmful bacteria deeper in the vagina or transmit to your sex partner.

  1. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar again can amaze us by its ability to treat bacterial vaginosis. Its natural acidic compound restores the pH balance in the vagina and makes it an inhabitable environment for harmful bacteria.

How to apply:

  • Prepare a warm tub of water that is added 3 cups of apple cider vinegar; soak yourself in the tub for 15 minutes.
  • Another good option is to simply wash your vagina with a mixture of ½ cup of apple cider vinegar and water. You will see improvement in no time.
