Shut Off Water Before the Freeze.

By Tia Cristy

Shut Off Water Before the Freeze.

Problem: Hi T, it’s my first winter in a new place. I have a sink in the garage where it’s unheated, do I have to shut that water off before freezing temperatures?

Tip from Tia: Thanks for the question. Before the freeze you most definitely want to shut off water to all outside water, like hoses; making sure water is not still in the pipes by letting all the water run out. Now, as for areas where it’s covered, yet unheated, you want to also shut the water off, unless you have it well insulated.

Turn off the water to the sink and be sure to also empty the water from the trap as well. Standing water can cause the pipe to crack or break.

If you need the outside water or sink during winter months remember to shut it off and winterize the pipes again.

Thanks for reading!

Ear Infection with a Cold. Tips in Action:

Tips in Action: Ear Infection with a Cold

Problem: Do you have any home remedies to get rid of ear infection during cold?

Tip from Tia: Sad to say, this is becoming a common question this season. Having a cold can be bad, but adding an ear infection into the mix is down right miserable! A great home remedy to relieve the pain while treating the infection is using olive oil. Heat a spoon with warm water. Then pour a small amount of olive oil onto the spoon. Make sure it’s not too hot and drizzle into the ear. (Having a helping hand, while you lay down is easiest) Let the oil run in the canal for a few minutes. Watch your balance before getting up, and have a paper towel close by to catch what runs back out.

Then, use a heating pad throughout the day. Place it behind the infected ear. This will help with swelling and loosen and thin the mucus inside the ear.

Using over the counter medicine? Get one with an expectorant. that will help break up the blockage as well.

Get Ink Out of Vinyl Bag

By Tia Cristy

Problem:

Okay Tia, how do I get pen in out of my “leather” (not real) handbag? I’ve tried everything.

Tip from Tia:

Thanks for the question. I’m going to tell you something you probably haven’t tried yet. I know because this works great. Pending upon how long it’s sat or how deep it is, you may see some left behind, but this will get out a bulk of it.

Baking Soda Fixes A Lot

Baking soda can help with all types of things around the house. From cleaning to oral and hair hygiene, a little baking soda can change your daily life.

Mix together baking soda and water to make a thick paste. Apply it to the ink stain and rub it in so it gets in all the cracks and crevices. Let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes while periodically rubbing it in. Wipe down with a damp cloth or towel. The stain will be lighter if not gone. Repeat as necessary.

If residue is stubborn, scrub down with a foaming dish soap and try above method again.

Need to kick Start Energy. Tips on Triggers:

Tips on Triggers: Need to kick Start Energy.

Sometimes throughout the day we lose energy. Yet, sometimes it’s hard to even find the energy from the start of the day. A good trigger to kick start energy actually starts in the feet.

On the bottom of the foot the “top” of the arch is closest to the toes. So, from the top of the arch go to the half way point, from the top of the arch and the pinky toe.

This spot is where you will find energy. Press and rub area in a circular motion to stimulate a surge of energy to get moving.

Don’t Need Sunblock in Fall. Stupid Tip of the Day:

By Tia Cristy

Stupid Tip of the Day: Don’t Need Sunblock in Fall.

Sunblock is still very important, even in colder temperatures. Just like a cloudy day, still allows those harmful rays to get through to you, the cold doesn’t have protection against the sun either.

But, 1 bonus of the cold is to not stay out too long, so if it’s only 10 minutes in the sun, skip the sunblock. Yes, I said, skip it. It takes 10 minutes in the sun without sun block, to get the proper daily amount of Vitamin D from the sun.
