The Perfect Shade.

The Perfect Shade.

While j. Christian were discussing a new topic for our readers, Ashley who works in the back end of the studio approached me. She gave me insight to what her profession is. She’s a make-up chemist.

What exactly is that? She makes cosmetics from the scratch ingredients and personalizes it for her clients. Sounds expensive? It’s affordable! I set up an appointment for a personal mix.

When I got into the chair she wrapped a cape around me and started to find my base tone. It turns out I’m a mix between Ivory and porcelain. She then added in  reds, blue, and purple tones to get my absolute color.

After the color was the perfect shade, she then added other ingredients that those price make-ups claim to have. A dash of a glow, a few drops of anti-aging, and a smidge of a highlighter. Other things she could have added included sunblock or oil absorbents.

I don’t wear much makeup on the daily. I leave that stuff for the photo shoots. But after she applied it to my whole face, I was feeling light, not heavy.

Makeup artist, Mary stepped in to do some basic contouring ideas, while Ashley whipped up some glamorous eye shadow from scratch. It was really cool to watch the process unfold. I have used it as an everyday for a week and my skin actually felt better. Her ingredients have healing properties. And the neatest thing, the cosmetics look better the longer they are on. So by the evening, you look amazing to go out, instead of needing to refresh the makeup. What a bonus!

TipsfromTia.com_customized_cosmetics_31Ashley has her own full line that she is mixing on a personal level. From foundations, liquid, powders and mouses to eyes, cheeks, and lips.

You can make an appointment for a consultation with Ashley at J. Christian Studio.

Deep fry that Turkey. Stupid Tip of the Day:

By Tia Cristy

Stupid Tip of the Day: Deep Fry that Turkey.
TipsfromTia.com Holiday Turkey

Holiday dinner menus are being planned as we speak. This week surrounds the cooking of the bird and some enjoy the technique of deep frying it. This is a fine way if you know what you are doing and have the right tools for the job.

We have all heard the insurance commercials telling us how many house fires happen during the season due to the big deep fry. The number one reason the explosion happens is, being unaware that the turkey still has moisture inside it, when it goes in the blazing hot oil. This causes a dispersing reaction (remember, oil and water don’t mix) and the oil explodes out, causing people immediate injury, as well as catch fire to materials in close proximity, due to the excessive temperatures. Make sure if you are a deep fryer, the turkey has had plenty of time drying out. And, if you are going to stuff it prior, follow all instructions to do so. (once again, oil and water don’t mix)

One proper tool to have if deep frying meats is a pull harness to be able to release the meat into the vat from a great distance. This can save people many painful trips, to the hospital. And, can keep firemen at bay so they too, can enjoy the Holiday.

So please, enjoy the cooking of the traditional bird, but save the deep frying to those that are willing to invest in the customary tools and time to keep safe. Best of luck with turkey dinner.

How to Incorporate Healthy Living Back to Your Life

As you get older, a change in eating habits is in order, along with other inevitable lifestyle changes. Basically, your body needs extra doses of vitamins, minerals and other important nutrients to maintain optimal levels of energy, brain power and good health. In time, the body’s metabolism (the rate at which calories are burned) begins to decrease. That means that later in life, you need less calories than you needed when you were younger. This leaves very little room for that extra piece of cake or a supersized order of fries.

Taking dietary supplements

It is important for everyone to consider appropriate multivitamins for their specific age. Calcium and vitamin D are especially important for bone health, as well as some other nutrients such as magnesium, potassium, vitamins C, K and B, and carotenoids. Contributions in protein and moderate wine consumption also has a positive effect.

Add flavor to your life

As you get older, the number of taste buds in your mouth decreases, so many people tend to eat sweeter or saltier foods. By adding natural herbs and spices to meals, you can maintain a healthy and delicious home cuisine without adding more fats, salt and / or sugar.

Fiber

Eating more fiber can prevent stomach or intestinal problems such as constipation. Fiber may also help lower cholesterol and blood sugar. Make sure that at least half of the grains you eat are whole. Fruit and vegetables can also help with a balanced fiber intake. Women need approximately 21 grams of fiber per day, while men need about 28 grams. If you need to increase your fiber intake, do so gradually over the course of a few weeks, and drink more liquids to compensate for the extra fiber.

Fruit and vegetables

Eat two cups of fruit and 2 1/2 cups of vegetables each day and rotate between kinds of fruit and vegetables. A serving can be a cup of fresh or frozen fruit or half a cup of dried fruit. If you have difficulty eating raw fruits and vegetables, consider adding soup, vegetable juice or tomato sauce to your meals.

Stay hydrated

Aging decreases the perception of thirst. Drink fluids throughout the day. Water is probably the best calorie-free drink, but if you like to drink fizzy drinks, make sure that they are labelled as diet. Do not wait until you feel thirsty. Try taking several large glasses of water each day.

Fight the stress

Stress is a natural reaction of the body that allows people to act against unexpected situations of everyday life. The problem occurs when people feel stressed all the time. Meditation has been proven to be highly effective in reducing stress. Moreover, look for ways to relax in everyday life. Enjoy the silence for a while once the workday is over – no TV, no music, no conversations.

Exercise

Even if you get just a little physical activity, such as walking, it is still better than nothing. Exercise helps maintain and strengthen the muscles that are lost due to the process of aging, and boosts the metabolism. It also helps you keep a healthy heart, and prevents disease. The routine should be repetitive, so do two walks of 15 minutes a day, or, if you have time, sign up for a fitness center for the elderly where you can do some light exercises, yoga or cycling. Letting your childish side show is a great way to train your body, too. Bouncing on trampolines and awesome adult jumping castles is equally fun in the company of your grandchildren and on your own.

Reaching a certain age marks the deadline for a change and healthy living. The period between your 40th and 50th birthdays is crucial. That is the time when you should start eating better, quit smoking, get into exercise and try to reduce stress and alcohol (if you have not done so earlier) to ensure good health. You can always start later, but the benefits would not be the same.

I enter the J. Christian Studio and J. greets me with a giant bear hug. “So you’re still giving me free reign with your color today?†he shines that smile at me. I shake my head ‘yes’ as he wraps the cape around me. I’ve been blonde for years, so I thought he would vamp my locks with a platinum. He spins my chair away from the mirror and goes to the color wall. I watch as he grabs color after color, looking between me and four mixing bowls, he moves like a professional chemist. (Technically he is) J. wheels a black cart towards me and the sectioning of my long hair begins. Before I realize it, two assistants are on each side holding strands of my hair as he switches from bowl to bowl. The paste’s colors range from purple to red. I don’t flinch. I have trust in the international artist. You don’t get named 6th in the country for just any reason. J. has a vision, and I let him work, even though nervousness is somewhat present in my stomach.

We are able to chat about the importance of color as he works vigorously. At one point I feel the heat on the top of my head. I inform him of this. “Do you use a sea salt hair product?†How did he know this and what does that have to do with anything? Well a lot, actually. It turns out sea salt is high in various minerals that have a heat reaction to hair dye. This can actually cause severe burns. J. moves quickly to double coat the foils touching my head, until the burning subsides.

J. pauses and his face grows serious. “This is why the hair industry has as many lawsuits as the medical field, nowadays.†Shocking information. And it’s not hair salons being sued; it’s the large companies that provide at home products. J. understands women and men like to use a lot of at home products, but he stresses that everyone should find a budget for professional color. Mass production products can only be so reliable. There are more factors to consider, like changing up a shampoo or even a styling product can change the chemical reaction. J. says the only guarantee to keep hair healthy or diminish damage is to have a professional mix the colors and quickly troubleshoot if any problem should arise.

The next topic of discussion is what he’s actually doing to my hair. I don’t feel foils being folded, so this leaves me curious. “Balayage Effect,†he tells me. What exactly is this technique? It’s a French coloring technique that came about in 1970ish. It’s a freehand painting of color rather than using the usual foiling or cap. It allows the artist to put in as many colors as they want and where they want. This is the trend for top celebrities this season and it’s very rare to find a salon that can properly do the crafted effect in most areas. It differs from the popular hombre, with highlights sparingly going up to the crown and lowlights all the way to the end. J. is quite fluent in this technique.

After a process and wash out, J. is back to the color wall. Two more bowls come my way, this time with a purple paste and a white one. He paints my hair again. As I process my tones, J. sits across from me and we discuss the fad of white, silver and grey hair colors. “This is just the start of it. More and more people of all ages and professions want to try it. There are amazing, beautiful colors out there.†I explain my concern with the fact that people over a certain age would look older because of it. But, J. disagreed. Grey’s have become an acceptable color in today’s society and if you find the right one, it’s just like finding any right color whether it’s blonde, red, or brunette.

After the final wash out and blow-dry, J. popped in a few curls. He turned my chair for the big reveal. Six colors shine throughout my once golden locks, and not one of them is blonde anymore. Purple, red, copper, white, and gunmetal grey combine and slightly blended strands give a blue hue. Amazing. It is pure artistry on my head as the roots are a deep red that move to purple and the grey is at the ends. It’s the hottest trend with class, and super sexy for a Fall season look.

J.’s next tip is to pick a shampoo and conditioner with simple ingredients. Going organic in today’s world isn’t a bad idea, according to him. I ordered from J.’s Italian collection Artego, a vegan shampoo and conditioning mask; $25 plus shipping for shampoo or conditioner is a great deal when it comes to the assurance of a pure product that treats and heals my hair. Call J. Christian Studio to order. Orders arrive quickly. Treat yourself or give as a gift.

Thanks to J. Christian Studio for the knowledge and I look forward to J.’s next set of tips with TipsfromTia.com

Look Rich to Get Rich. By Guest Blogger Daniel R.

Look Rich to Get Rich.

TipsfromTia.com Photo Provided by Alissa J.
TipsfromTia.com Photo Provided by Alissa J.

Once you find yourself in the world of business, you will realize that there is much more than just doing a good job that influences you and your company. It’s about many other factors as well, including advertising, observing the market, trying to beat competition, and keeping up appearances. It’s not just the way you dress that can determine whether you will sing the next contract or not, but the way your office looks too.

Sharp dressed men and women

It is not necessary to spend all your savings on acquiring designer clothes and pieces so you have no money for food afterwards just so you can look rich. You can achieve the ‘rich and sophisticated’ look without breaking the bank. Wear well-fitting clothes, and make sure every piece on you is clean and in good condition. What is more, you don’t have to wear pieces that have designer logos stamped all over them; designer clothes usually are discreet with their logo placement, but you should make sure all your clothes are of good quality and preferably from natural materials. In addition, you can find a tailor and have at least some items custom made for you – no better way to ensure your clothes are well-fitting.

The space you work in

What good is it to be dressed in the best clothes when you will be sitting in a broken down chair in a dusty office that even has no windows? You need your office to reflect the air of wealth if you would like to attract similar clientele. This means a comfortable couch and armchairs in the waiting room, classy office chairs around your desk, and an office desk made of high-quality materials such as glass, steel, mahogany, and marble. You should also make sure there is enough natural light and plenty of functional and stylish lamps which will make the best atmosphere. However, try not to make your working environment too sterile; make sure your furniture is comfortable, and have live plants and fresh flowers around to liven up the atmosphere.

The details that matter

Painting Fingernails

Remember, it is not just the way you dress and decorate your office that counts, it’s the way you pay attention to details and take care of yourself.

Dirty fingernails are repulsive unless you are a gardener or a mechanic, so manicure is a must. In addition, dandruff all over your shoulders and dirty hair will make you look messy and less professional. Clean hair or at least a hairstyle which will disguise the fact that you are dying to wash it will do the trick; and this is one of the reasons women love braids and buns. Having a few expensive accessories will make you look good and professional even when paired up with plainest possible clothes: good watch, designer sunglasses, expensive tie, or a discreet piece of jewelry.

Remember, keeping up appearances and always looking your best is incredibly important, but that doesn’t mean you should forget about other things completely. Always offer the best service, focus on professionalism, and be honest with your potential and regular clients and customers, as well as with your employers. After all, money doesn’t fall from heaven and you should make an effort and have a lot to offer before you get rich.
