How to Look Great at the Gym

Losing weight and staying fit is tough work and sometimes it’s hard to look your best when you’re covered in sweat from head to toe. But, if looking extra fly will motivate you to work out harder and more often, then you must try to get some new gym wear that will inspire you to hit the treadmill. The right gym clothes will not only make you look amazing but also make your workouts more efficient and easier. So, what to wear, what to wear?

Undergarments

Even though it looks super cute on you, that lace bra and underwear might not be the best gym clothes option. It certainly makes you feel sexy on a date night, but it will only make you feel uncomfortable at the gym. In general, no underwear will be as comfy during exercise as a sports bra and athletic panties. Sports bras provide some extra support, limit breast movement and pain, and typically come in light and breathable materials that help keep your skin dry. Men have it a bit easier here, just make sure your undies are comfortable.

Socks and shoes

Athletic socks should be your number one choice to wear during your workout because they’re made of light, synthetic materials that wick away sweat and don’t scratch your skin. No matter the length you prefer, sporting goods stores have all kind of athletic socks for you. When it comes to shoes, you should choose them according to your preferred activity. For instance, if you love to run, then getting cross trainers is just not a great idea, and if you’re an avid weightlifter, running shoes will not do the job. Don’t be scared to splurge some more money on high-quality shoes, otherwise, you’re risking injuries and all sorts of unwanted side-effects. But, generally, look for shoes that are light, comfortable, keep your feet cool and provide ample support.

Shirts

Both women and men have a wide variety of options here. Ladies usually opt for T-shirts, tank tops, long-sleeved shirts or sweatshirts for the gym. In general, gyms permit all sorts of tank tops, but halter tops and shirts that show excessive cleavage are usually frowned upon. Just to be sure, check your gym’s dress code to ensure which shirts are appropriate. Guys better avoid tiny tank tops, even if you’re a pro bodybuilder. We get it, you have a killer body, but obviously, you have an even bigger ego. Instead, get a high-quality sleeveless shell tank that will show off your arms and hint at your abs just the right amount. And as with all gym clothing, ensure your tops and shirts are made of light, stretchy fabric that keeps you cool and doesn’t limit your mobility. You can also check out some moisture-wicking options.

Pants and shorts

For many women, the only criterion when buying gym pants is that they match with their shirt. But, your foremost priority should always be to find shorts, yoga pants and sweatpants that are light, comfortable and allow a wide range of movements. Some ladies prefer elasticized biking-style shorts, while others favor the comfort and freedom they find in yoga pants. When it comes to the gentlemen, don’t try to make your swim trunks do your gym work. Instead, pick up a few pairs of men’s gym shorts that offer breathability and comfort.

Hair and makeup

If you feel too naked going to the gym without any makeup, then choose a sheer, light foundation, a couple of coats of waterproof mascara and pull your hair out of your face. It’s an easy and functional look that still allows you to look polished at the gym

Now that you know what to wear and what to avoid in the gym, there are no more excuses. Grab your gear and hit those dumbbells.
