Getting Those Holiday Deals

By Tia Cristy

Getting Those Holiday Deals

I’ve gotten a few questions over the last few weeks regarding holiday shopping. Not just inquiring about the perfect gifts for him or her, but what’s the best strategy on finding those holiday deals.

Four options come to mind.

Shop all year ‘round

This is, personally, my favorite. I hit the clearance racks after each season. I tend to stay away from anything trendy when it comes to clothes shopping for others. Remember how fast palazzo pants come in and out of style? There’s no guarantee that something you get on the sale rack will be in-fashion next year. However, staying within ‘basics’ is usually a homerun because you can feel good knowing got that perfect little black dress for a fraction of the original price.

Black Friday

Of course, it’s well known the Friday after we give thanks for all we have can be the time to score deals that make us even more thankful. Black Friday traditions can feel like a holiday all their own. But in the past several years, I’ve been reminded of my elementary days where upper classmen should be yelling don’t run in the hallways to all the young tots wildly trying to get to their next class. But instead of a Safety sporting a plastic badge and whistle, a young store manager toting a ring of keys has to practically jump out of the way after unlocking the doors of a superstore in the wee hours of the morning. I can’t help but reflect on when my parents would say, ‘don’t grab… there’s plenty enough to go ‘round’, but sadly, that’s not usually the case when there’s only two available. Doorbusters have a way of making some folks forget human values. So be aware of life-lessons; no sale is worth compromising your humanity.

Small Business Saturday

The latest and perhaps the greatest way to go shopping during the holiday season is showing patronage to the small business owners. Sales and deals are always to be found. But beyond that, you’ll find lots of ‘one-of-a-kinds’ for that special someone that appreciates being unique. Small businesses are usually more apt to help the customers with suggestions, returns and overall customer service since they rely heavily on recommendations. Small businesses can also offer online shopping for customers that aren’t quite local. Momentum highlights some of the best small businesses to check out for Small Business Saturday… or any other day of the week.

Cyber Monday

Curling up on the couch with your laptop and a cup of tea can be the least hassle-free in most cases. Cyber Monday’s sales can offer specials as good as Black Friday, however you need to be quick on the ‘complete order’ button. There have been several times where I’ve filled up the cyber cart, clicked to pay and then half the merchandise is no longer available. But once I got the trick down of making several purchases throughout crossing off my Christmas list, I was pretty happy with the results—that includes the shipping options.

So when is the best time to get the shopping deals?

It’s really trial and error. And it has the ability to change year in and year out. But these are my top choices for getting the shopping list done without ending up at the mall the day before Christmas. Happy shopping and here’s to a safe and happy holiday season!

Unlucky in Love? Turn Your Luck Around With These 3 Simple Tips

Unlucky in Love? Turn Your Luck Around With These 3 Simple Tips

As a teenager, it seems so easy to find someone, fall in love and live happily ever after. But as you grow older, you soon realize that it is not as easy as you think. Falling in love is easy but finding a serious relationship is very difficult. It is so difficult that a lot of people believe that it is easier to win in a casino rather than finding true love.

People believe that “luck†plays a role in finding the right relationship. You will often hear people say “Wow! You’re so lucky to find true love.â€. There are people who are perceived as “lucky†and “unlucky†in love.

Are There People Who Are Unlucky In Love?

Actually, luck has nothing to do with love. It is what we do that makes us become unlucky in love. There are ways for us to find the right love.

How to Turn Your Luck Around?

Since luck has no significant role in finding a long-term relationship, you can turn your “unlucky†love life upside down.  Here are three simple tips on how to be “lucky†in love.

Right Place

In finding the right love, you have to look in the right place. You have to consider the type of people that go to a certain place. If you go to a bar, you will likely meet people who love to party and drink. If you like this kind of people, then you are in luck. However, if you don’t like that kind of people, then don’t go to the bar.

To find the person you want, you should go to a place of common interest. If you like reading, then go to the library or bookstore. You will likely meet someone there that loves reading too. If you want to meet someone who enjoy fitness and exercise, then go to gym. If you want interracial dating for black and white singles, then go online dating.

The first step in finding the right person is meeting them at the right places. Therefore go to the place where most people, with the same interest as you or possess the qualities you want, go. However, there are times that the right person is in the wrong place or vice versa. So be sure to know if that person is what you really want.

Right Person

There are a lot of people out there that are not good for you. Meeting these types of people all the time will make you think that you are bad at love. To find the right person is making sure that you know what you really want.

What do you like in a man or woman? Make a list if you have to. Then, find out if that person you meet has those qualities. But take note, make sure these qualities are what you really want and what will make you happy.

For example, there are women who like guys that give off bad boy vibes. However, most of this type of guys will not treat their woman right. Then, women will realize that all they want is a decent guy who will treat them right. So before making that similar mistake, be clear in what you really want.

Right Action

Actually, finding the right person at the right place is a bit easy. The real difficulty begins after you meet him or her. The next goal is how to keep this person in a relationship with you. You have to take the right actions.

In taking the right action, you must know how the person responds to you. If you feel that he or she trust you, you can take your relationship up a notch. However, if you sense that he or she is reserved around you, then take things slow. Putting the right actions in your relationship can make your partner stay long… or even forever.

So in short, finding the right one is not luck. This is because anyone can find true love without luck. All you have to do is go to the right place, be sure of what type of person is the right one for you, and know what actions are you going to do to make him or her want to be with you.

Eye of the Tiger: How to Keep Your Eyes Healthy

By Guest Blogger Diana S.

Eye of the Tiger: How to Keep Your Eyes Healthy

Having a good vision and healthy eyes is an important part of your overall health and good quality of life. Even though most of us don’t think about our eyes until we start seeing (or rather not seeing) some changes, prevention is a much better option than treatment. There are many things you can do to keep your eyes in tip-top shape and maintain good vision well into your senior years.

Eat healthy foods

Ever since you were little, you’ve been listening how carrots are good for your eyesight, but that’s not the only veggie that will keep your eyes healthy. Vegetables like dark leafy greens (spinach, collard greens, and kale) will make you see like a falcon. Fish that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, such as tuna, salmon, and halibut, also have many health benefits for your eyes.

Protect your eyes from UV rays

During a sunny day, always wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from harmful UV rays. Constant exposure to UV rays can cause cataracts, pinguecula and other eye diseases. However, not all sunglasses have UV protection, so read the label carefully and choose the ones that will provide protection against the harmful UV rays.

Wear eye protection

Every time you engage in sports, DIY projects or activities around the house that can be harmful to your eyes make sure to wear appropriate eye protection, such as safety glasses. Choose eyewear that is made out of polycarbonate that is strong enough to offer good eye protection. Also, never skip wearing your eye protection in your workplace and encourage your colleagues to do the same.

Don’t smoke

Smoking is as bad for your lungs, heart and throat as it is bad for your eyes. Many studies link smoking to the development of age-related macular degeneration, cataract, and optic nerve damage. All of these eye diseases potentially lead to blindness! So, ditch your smoking habit, or better yet, never start in the first place.

Rest your eyes regularly

Resting your eyes is essential, especially if you spend a lot of time doing activities that are strenuous to the eye, like working at the computer. If you focus too much on one task, you might forget to blink and overwork your eyes which causes headaches, shoulder pain and dry eyes. In order to rest your eyes, you can try the 20-20-20 rule. Look away at about 20 feet in the distance every 20 minutes and don’t move your eyes for 20 seconds. This reduces eye fatigue and relaxes your eyes.

Don’t ignore the signs of vision deterioration

As soon as you start noticing some changes in your eyesight, make an appointment with your doctor. If you notice signs like hazy or double vision, difficulty seeing in low light, eye redness, flashes of light, floaters or eye swelling and pain, don’t ignore them for a second.

Have regular eye exams

According to recent studies, about half of Australia’s population wears glasses or contacts on a regular basis. Additionally, the number of preventable eye diseases is rising as well. All of these numbers could be significantly lower if people went for regular eye exams, at least once in two years. Your optometrist or ophthalmologist can also make sure your glasses or contacts prescription is up to date. So, don’t take any risks and book an eye test in Sydney the first chance you get.

Know your family’s eye problem history

Knowing your family’s history of eye conditions is very important for your eye health since many of these conditions can be hereditary. If you know you fall into a high-risk category, you will be able to react in time and take proper care of your eyes.

Even though there is no step you can take to completely prevent eye diseases and vision deterioration, healthy lifestyle, eye protection and regular eye tests will certainly help keep your peepers in top condition.

Simple Ways To Relax At Home After A Hard Day At Work

Simple Ways To Relax At Home After A Hard Day At Work

Sat with your feet up  (source)

After a hard day at work, the last thing you want is to continue feeling stressed at home. You want to return to your house, shut the door, kick off the shoes, and relax. That’s the theory anyway. Chances are you find it difficult to unwind fully when you’re at home. Perhaps it’s the thought of what happened during the day or anxieties about the day ahead. Any chances of relaxation go out of the window when you find yourself pacing around the house. Before you know it, your day is over, and it’s back to the daily grind.

Does the above sound familiar? You’re not alone, but there are ways to eliminate stress when you return home. This should be your place of solace, an escape from the outside world. Here are some of the ways you can find the relaxation you deserve when trying to chill at home.

Leave work behind

You have spent the day at work, so the last thing you need is constant reminders about your working day. When you get home, put your work gear in a place that is hidden from view, and focus on the rest of your evening at home. Don’t check your work email either. You need to completely shut off from your workplace, so turn off your work phone, ditch the paper work, and find a way to distract yourself.

Come home to a tidy house

On returning home, you won’t be able to relax when the sink is full of dirty plates, and the bin is overflowing with rubbish. This is why you need to keep on top of the housework. You may not feel like washing up after a meal, but those dishes aren’t going to wash themselves. If you share the house with other family members, put them on a housework rota so the house is reasonably clean when you return. Then spend time at the weekend having a declutter and getting the house in order, ready for the week ahead. Yes, we know it’s tiring work, but you will be amazed at how calmer you feel when you return home to a tidier environment.

Create a better bathroom space

There is nothing better than a long soak in the bath at the end of a hard day. Soft music playing in the background, scented candles situated around the room, and a fragrant bath bomb are near-essentials for complete relaxation. If your bathroom is a mess, however, and your fixtures are outdated, you won’t get the peace you are looking for. The next time you are looking to renovate your house, you might want to make the bathroom a priority. Go for the spa experience, and source ideas online. You can buy freestanding tubs for any bathroom, and underfloor heating is a great way to create a warmer room. Ambient lighting will help too, allowing you to fully relax as you wash away the pressures of the day.

Do something you enjoy

Lose yourself in a book  (source)

What you do is personal to you, whether it’s reading a good book or settling down with a glass of wine and a movie. Slip out of your work clothes and get into your pajamas if you want to, and listen to some music, or give yourself a pampering session. This is your time to do the things you enjoy, distracting your tired mind from the events of the day. Remember: life is too short to always be in work mode, so have some fun.

Spend time with friends

If you don’t want to spend time alone, get together with your besties and hang out together. When possible, don’t invite your work colleagues over, no matter how lovely they are. You might only talk about work together, which defeats the point when you are trying to escape from the place. However, whoever you hang out with, keep certain topics off the table (such as work) and relax and unwind in their company.

Make life easy for yourself

If all you want to do is come home and flop on the couch, so be it. After a busy day, you may be too tired to lift a finger to do anything else. Therefore, get a takeaway occasionally, or cook a meal in the slow cooker at weekends, and make enough to last throughout the week. Then

find your special space with everything you need to hand, so you don’t have to get up on your tired feet every few minutes for something you’ve forgotten.

Get plenty of sleep

Finally, make sure you get enough sleep. You don’t want to wake up feeling tired and stressed, as your day will probably suffer because of it. Get your beauty sleep, let your body recover from the busy day you had, and wake up refreshed and ready for what the coming day has to throw at you.
