Best Way to Clean Oven.

By Tia Cristy

Best Way to Clean Oven.

Problem: Hi Tia. What is the best way you recommend to clean the oven?

Tip from Tia:

Hi, thank you for your question. The best most natural way is, letting the oven do it’s own cleaning setting. It’s better than using any chemicals and then, sticking your head in to inhale them all.

The cleaning setting on the oven is high, high temperatures, that will burn off all the grime, without causing any harm. The door should lock, either automatically or manually. (Know how to work your oven before cleaning.) The timer runs for several hours, but can be canceled usually at any time.

The hardest part of letting the oven do the work is, the smell. The smell can be yucky, depending on how dirty the oven is. Cleaning it more frequently, like seasonally, can reduce that smell.

And, another great tip while letting the oven self clean is, put an old candle that still has wax but, doesn’t burn anymore, on top of the oven. The scented wax will melt from the heat and, give a delicate aroma to help with the smell. And, on a plate or paper towel, put stale bread on the counter next to the oven. The stale bread will help absorb the odors as well.

Bleaching Skin or Nails. Quickie:

By Tia Cristy

Quickie: Bleaching Skin or Nails.

So, we have talked about other options to remove dye stains from skin or yellowing of nails, but after receiving questions on it, one other option is bleach. Yet, I don’t recommend it for little or sensitive hands, unless using extreme caution.

It’s very effective. Bleach will burn off, the discolor. It only takes a few seconds to a minute or two, to work completely. After that, wash your hands and skin immediately and thoroughly, to neutralize the area.

Safety is a must, when doing this method. Be sure to keep it away from mouth, eyes and broken skin.

You Can Paint Anytime. Stupid Tip of the Day:

By Tia Cristy

Stupid Tip of the Day: You Can Paint Anytime.

This week I have been painting, so all these tips have flowed to the forefront, so I figured share them with you now.

Painting can be enjoyable or a hassle to some, but either way remember painting is not good to do in high humidity or extreme heat unless you have patience. Both environments will cause long drying periods, especially when using latex or acrylic paints.

Naturally, those paints bubble and flatten during their drying process, so waiting a bit in between coats is already necessary, when weather is not cool and mild, that wait time increases.

So the best climate to paint in, is a climate that has low humidity and not blazing hot.

Freshen Your Hair. Tips in Action:

By Tia Cristy

Tips in Action: Freshen Your Hair.

Sometimes odors can stick to your hair, whether it’s from smoke, smog,
cooking, etc. That’s alright, because in most cases, the shampoo will
wash out the odor. But, what to do if you don’t have time to wash, before your busy life takes you to the next place. Make your hair smell fresh as a rose…or what ever scent you prefer actually.

Here’s an easy tip. Using a body spray to freshen up your hair is a great way to go. You must flip your dry hair, while spritzing above it and allowing the scent to fall into place. Then, while up right spray above your head and allow the scent to cascade into your locks.

(Side Note: Using perfumes can be too heavy weight and scent wise. Body sprays will give a light delicate smell and weight to your hair.)

Keep Paint Brushes Ready for Tomorrow.

Keep Paint Brushes Ready for Tomorrow.

When you are painting, clean up can be a hassle, especially, if you know you need to do a second coat or touch up later.

Instead of washing out all the bushes and rollers, keep them ready for your next coat without cleaning them. Put paint brush or roller in plastic wrap or bag and place in refrigerator. The paint won’t dry and will keep the brushes ready to go, for the next coat.

(Side Note: Brushes can stay ready to reuse, in the refrigerator for days.)

How to Relieve a Headache: Tips on Triggers

By Tia Cristy

Tips on Triggers: Can’t shake that headache?

One trigger everyone can use at one point in time, is knowing how relieve a headache fairly quick. The best spot to tackle that headache, is a the point in between your thumb and “pointer” finger. It’s that pudgy part of the web, when you stretch the finger and thumb to make the famous “L” shape.

Press down with your opposite hand’s finger (under hand) and thumb (on top of hand). Apply a deep pressure and hold for several seconds and release. Magically the pain in your head should start to release as well. If pain continues, try trigger point again or switch hands and repeat process.

If you have a trigger point you want to share, email me or comment.

Protection is Protection. Stupid Tip of the Day. (MA)

By Tia Cristy

Stupid Tip of the Day: Protection is Protection.

Yeah, I don’t think so.

When it comes to that magic moment you don’t want anything to ruin the momentum, but in fact you must remember to think first and act second. It can be a scary world out there if you are not in a committed relationship and don’t protect yourself.

Studies are always coming up with new numbers, but it can be safe to say 1 out of 3 over the age of 14 has the potential of having an STD. So to put it bluntly, wrap it up. If you are responsible enough to have sex, you are responsible to be in charge of protecting yourself. Sex responsibility is not sexist.

Birth control does only that, protects you against giving birth, and is not 100% effective. Condoms are the way to protect yourself from pregnancy and STD’s, but as you also know, they too are not 100% effective. It may sound cliche’ but, abstinence is the only full proof way to keep clear of both, pregnancy and STD’s.

Using a plastic bag or wrap, is not the same thing as a condom, no matter what your friends may tell you. Plastic wrap only protects your food from freezer burn. (not 100% effective) No matter how much the urge has taken over, take the time to get the proper protection, because protection is not always protection.

By Tia Cristy

Tips In Action: Unable to Wash your Hair Today.

When your hair looks greasy, but you have no time to wash it. Easy and quick tip. Grab the cornstarch! Cornstarch will absorb the grease out of your hair and leave it looking clean and ready.

First pour some into your hand, rub hands together and shake off excess. Then stroke through your hair starting from scalp up the shaft. Repeat until the white of the powder is unnoticeable.  The final look should be soft and natural. Your hair should feel clean and ready to style. (SIDE NOTE: Cornstarch should not block pores, but if method is used repeatedly without washing hair in between, it can eventually dry the scalp)
