Get Your Skin Ready for Sun. By Guest Blogger, Amy G.

Get Your Skin Ready for Sun

Every year we promise ourselves that we will prepare our bodies for the summer on time, and yet it always catches us unprepared. Although the summer is just around the corner, there is still time to get your skin glowing for the beach. Here are a few useful tips to get you started.

  1. Full Body Exfoliation
Provided by Guest Blogger Amy G.
Provided by Guest Blogger Amy G.

No matter the season, regular exfoliation should be a part of your skin care routine. While we remember to take care of our face during winter, we often neglect our bodies because they are hidden under layers of clothes. If you have not done it yet, now is the time to exfoliate both your face AND your body. Unless your skin is too sensitive, dermatologists recommend exfoliating once or twice a week to achieve smooth and healthy-looking skin. But be careful – exfoliation is meant to remove only the surface, dead skin cells, without damaging the underlying new layer. Since body skin is a bit rougher, you can use brushes and exfoliating cloths or scrubs with coarse particles, like sugar. On the other hand, avoid using them on your face because they might cause irritation.

  1. Sunscreen as an Everyday Accessory

Freshly exfoliated skin is extremely susceptible to burning. This should be a reason enough to use sunscreen daily. If you are wearing makeup that contains sunscreen, that does not count. The SPF of beauty products is too low to provide an effective UV protection. But any broad spectrum sunscreen with SPF 15 will be enough on a regular day. Make it at least 30 if you are heading to the beach. If you are wearing makeup, you should layer sunscreen under it. But remember that you will have to reapply the SPF about every two hours, so you might want to skip the whole makeup thing. Don’t forget that you should wear appropriate clothes to protect your skin in summer. The tighter the knit or weave, the smaller the holes and the less UV can get through. Also, if you have children, you get quality children clothes online that are made from quality fabrics to protect their skin in sunny days.

  1. Switch to Summer Skincare Products

Products that kept your skin feeling hydrated and comfortable during cold and dry winter months may leave it sticky and sweaty once the heat sets in. As the temperatures start to rise and the air becomes more humid, your skin begins to adjust by producing more oil. So, you need to adjust your skincare products accordingly. Pick products that contain lightweight ingredients, such as silicones and glycerine. They will hydrate your skin and leave a breathable barrier. If your skin is prone to breakouts, dab facial oil in dry spots and skip the rest of your face. You may be tempted to use harsh soaps in order to get squeaky clean skin, but this method can only backfire and cause your skin to produce even more oil. Instead, use a gentle facial cleanser such as rose water spray or a foaming face wash.

  1. Get Familiar with the New SPF Regulations

In 2012, the FDA adopted new regulations that redefined

sunscreens as we knew them. The term ‘sunblock’ came out of use because it cannot be scientifically proven that these products completely block sun radiation. New sunscreens are labelled only ‘broad-spectrum’ if they filter out both UVA and UVB rays. SPFs higher than 50 are also a thing of the past since the sky-high digits are not a guarantee of higher protective powers of sunscreen. A SPF 30 filters approximately 97 percent of UVB rays, and SPF 75 cannot be much more effective than that, can it?

With age, these tricks become less effective in providing us youthful-looking skin. This is when you should consider facial rejuvenation. We recommend laser clinics whose experts assure you that facial rejuvenation can improve the look of deep lines and prevent the occurrence of new ones.

How Your Gut Bacteria Can Help You Lose Weight. By Guest Blogger Amy G.

How Your Gut Bacteria Can Help You Lose Weight

If someone approached you saying that the era of dieting and exercising are over and that now you can rely on the microbes in your stomach to keep you lean and healthy, your reaction would probably be You’ve GUT to be kidding me! But, terrible puns aside, recent studies have showed that the bacterium living in your gut plays a major role when it comes to your overall health and weight. But how does this work exactly?

Hippocrates once said that all disease begin in the gut. Taken in consideration that the bacterial cells in the human body outnumber human cells 10 to one, this presumption is not that surprising. But what is important to realize is that not all bacteria in our bodies is harmful. Our bodies are home to both good a bad bacteria and your health is determined by how well you maintain this balance. There are many factors that affect the gut flora and your dietary habits are one of the most important ones. So if you are looking for ways to lose a few pounds and not harm your health in the process, perhaps these few nutrition tips will help you:

  1. Eat More Fiber
Photos provided by Guest Blogger Amy G.
Photos provided by Guest Blogger Amy G.

One thing that can greatly help you maintain your ideal body weight is to keep those friendly bacteria well nourished. Fibers play a significant role here, as the fibers consumed by the friendly bacteria in the intestine are transformed into energy. Feeding these good microbes with viscous fiber also has anti-inflammatory effects, which is a great thing, considering the fact that inflammations can cause weight gain and obesity. Consuming high amount of beans, oats, Brussels sprouts, bananas and garlic can give your body the sufficient amount of fibers needed to maintain good weight. Fibers are also known to increase satiety and reduce the appetite, which can greatly contribute to losing a few extra pounds.

  1. Snack Smarter

Most diet plans require giving up your favorite treats and snacks for good. You do not necessarily have to say goodbye to all your guilty pleasures, all you need to do is learn how to snack smarter. The first step is to try and avoid processed foods which contain too many preservatives and refined sugars. By consuming too much sugar you are feeding only the bad bacteria and leaving your friendly microbes hungry. This can later result in increased inflammation which is one of the leading causes of obesity. So the next time you decide on snacking, try some alternative snacking options like nuts, fruits or some healthy homemade treats.

  1. Pick Probiotic Foods

Probiotics actually represent that good gut bacterium which is already found in your body. They are in charge of keeping our digestive system in order. Probiotic foods hold many health benefits and controlling your weight is just one of them. Plain low-fat yogurt is definitely the best probiotic food and people who consume it on regular basis are known to have a much faster metabolism and a highly functional digestive system, which are also linked to weight loss. Other great probiotic foods include kefir, kimchi, tempeh, miso soup and even pickles.

  1. The Importance Of Regular Exercise

We are all aware that losing weight requires a bit more effort than simply regulating your diet a bit. But recent researches have shown a correlation between exercise and gut health. Apparently, people who indulge in regular fitness activities have shown an increased level of friendly microbes in their gut, therefore improved gut health. Also, people who exercise regularly are known to have a more diverse set of bacteria in their organism, which is another indicator of good health.

Unfortunately, scientists still have not developed a magical device that allows you to eat whatever, whenever and maintain ideal weight. But good news is that they have a good insight into our bodies and the fact that we have friendly bacteria in our bodies fighting to keep us healthy makes a pretty compelling argument for making some lifestyle changes. After all, we cannot expect for these friendly microbes to do all the work, they need some assistance. So why not take it from Hippocrates when he says Let food be thy medicine and let thy medicine be food.

New Year Resolutions: What You Should Promise Yourself in the New Year

The New Year’s Eve is almost here, which means that the majority of people are thinking about what they have accomplished in the last 365 days. New Year’s resolutions are the best opportunity for us to make important changes which motivate and inspire us very much, since the beginning of the new year brings an opportunity for a fresh start. Sit down and come up with a list of the changes you want to make – if you are not sure, here is a bit of help from us. Good luck!

Stop Procrastinating

Procrastinating is a tricky habit – once you get used to it, it will be very hard to snap yourself out of it. The truth is that it is much easier to do something fun and relax instead of working hard – everyone would agree with that. However, this will just prolong the whole process that inevitably has to be done. There are numerous tips that can help you stop procrastinating. After all, the most important thing is to find your own way of dealing with it.

Be More Confident and Take Some Chances

Self-confident and outgoing people are certainly much more noticeable than those who are quiet and shy. When other people notice your confidence, it is highly likely that your opinion will be heard, which will largely contribute to your overall success – both in private life and in business. Besides that, the right amount of self-confidence will help you lead much happier and fulfilled life.

Go organic – go green

Choosing to switch to organic food is probably the best decision you can make for your own health. However, it can get very complicated, especially when you realize that junk food is all around. Determination is crucial in this resolution – with some basic tips you can gradually develop healthy eating habits. It is essential for you to learn how to control emotional eating and to find out which reasons lead to the failure of your diet. Also, if you haven’t already, switch to organic cosmetics – use everything organic, even makeup brushes!

Get in Shape

It can be quite hard to find a decent exercise and diet program that will give great results and will be easy to keep up with in the long run. Losing weight and getting fit is possible with a lifestyle change, so you have to be ready to try some different things that will contribute to your success. Besides that, consuming particular nutrients after your workout, will improve your performance and overall recovery. These drinks are a perfect option that is both healthy and very delicious.

Pick Up Useful Skills or Fun Hobbies

Use your free time constructively – sitting around all day is definitely not beneficial to anyone. Pick up some skills and hobbies that will entertain you and make you feel useful at the same time. No matter whether it is crocheting, learning foreign language, or sports – it is important that you find something that fulfils you.

Spend More Time With the People Who Matter

Life is too short to waste it on hypocritical and insincere people. Instead, focus on the ones who and are there for you no matter what. These people are definitely worth your attention, and they will put a smile on your face in both good and bad times. True friends will focus on you and hear what you are saying, and will always be honest with you. Besides that, they will accept you just as you are.

No matter what you decide, give your best to accomplish your resolutions and make some long-term changes in your life. The future-you will certainly be glad you did that. Just have in mind that life is hard sometimes, but when you overcome the challenges, you become much stronger. So, what are your New Year’s resolutions?

The Ultimate Health Guide for Women. By Guest Blogger, Amy G.

The Ultimate Health Guide for Women

Many nutrients and vitamins are crucial for everyone no matter the age. However, as we are getting older our bodies require more. Women, especially, have to pay more attention to their bodies than men. So, here are some things you need to consider:

Vitamin A

Photo Provided by Guest Blogger, Amy G.

This vitamin is a great antioxidant which can better your immune system. It can also improve your vision, lower the risks of heart disease, and it helps to slow down the skin aging process. However, it could be toxic if taken in big amounts, so be careful.

Vitamin B

Vitamins B6, B12, and folic acid are some of the most important types for your body. B6 is important because it enables your brain to work properly and to convert all the food you eat into energy. However, this vitamin could be toxic if you take a lot of it at once, so just try taking it through nutritious food like potatoes, fish, avocadoes, cereals, and meats. B12 also plays a big role when it comes to metabolism, and you can get this vitamin from cheese, fish, eggs, milk, and meat. Folic acid helps with building a healthy brain and spinal cord. What is more, it can prevent the changes in DNA and causes of cancer. This acid is especially important for pregnant women.

Vitamin C

Women in their 30s are prone to developing an iron-deficiency anemia (low levels of iron). If you suffer from this, you will feel tired all the time, especially during your menstrual cycles, since you are losing a lot of blood. Vitamin C helps your body absorb iron from food or supplements. Other than that, it can prevent heart disease and boost your immune system. What is more, it helps the wounds heal faster and can prevent the occurrence of wrinkles. The best sources of vitamin C are strawberries, broccoli, oranges, and kiwis.

Vitamin D

This vitamin (more precisely hormone) helps calcium and phosphorus get into the bloodstream and to your bones. When there is a deficiency of vitamin D in your organism it will take those two minerals from your bones, which will become weaker, and that can lead to osteoporosis. Foods that are rich with vitamin D are eggs and fish (salmon, mackerel, and sardines). In addition to protecting your bones, vitamin D is believed to prevent breast and ovarian cancer as well as offering protection from diabetes.

Calcium

It is crucial to mention how important calcium is for the strength of your bones and teeth. As said before, calcium is a mineral which works together with vitamin D and makes your bones thick and healthy. Women during their 20s start to lose density in their bones, so this mineral is important for women in their 30s to prevent osteoporosis. Sources of calcium are best found in dairy products such as milk, yogurt, and cheese. However, if you are not taking enough calcium through food, you can always get calcium supplements to strengthen your bones.

Finally, it is very important for women to regularly take all of these vitamins, because you start to lose important minerals in your 20s. Another reason why you should take care of your intake of these vitamins mentioned is because one day you will be pregnant and all of these are good for baby’s development and growth.

Benefits of Lavender Oil for Your Skin. By Guest Blogger, Amy G.

Benefits of Lavender Oil for Your Skin

Organic cosmetics are becoming more and more popular. Lavender and lavender oil can help you in many ways, not only freshening up your home, but help your skin as well. Oily skin, problematic, dry, red, or irritated skin can all feel better after applying this pure oil, or a mixture of oil and another ingredient.

Helps Treat Acne

If you have problematic skin that gets oily and is prone to acne, you can ask yourself what’s the point of adding more oil to it? Actually, lavender oil stimulates blood circulation and had anti-inflammatory properties. You will notice the redness of your face reduced, and improved circulation will bring more oxygen to your skin leaving it radiant and glowing. In addition, lavender oil has antibacterial traits too, so not only will your face breathe easily, but your skin will be bacteria-free as well.

Beneficially Aids in the Treatment of Eczema

You have probably thought about those skin lesions that might be troubling you (having itching, red, and scaly skin can really drive you crazy), luckily, this can be treated. We mentioned antibacterial and anti-inflammatory traits, but lavender oil has anti-fungal properties as well. It speeds up the healing process and reduces scarring of the skin, while it can also relieve pain and itching which inflammation can cause. You can make homemade spray by simply mixing a cup of distilled tap water and ten drops of essential oil.

Can Help Heal Insect Bites

Sometimes no matter how hard you try, you cannot keeps bugs at bay and be fully protected from their bites. However, you can do something about the bites after they happen, and find remedies to help heal them quite quickly. Mosquitoes, spiders, ants, flies, and bedbugs are all common insects who bug people, and whose bites are very painful and annoying. A few drops of pure lavender essential oil applied to the bitten area will reduce swelling and pain. If you do get bitten and the pain does not recede after a while, make sure you visit your doctor and check it out.

Is a Redness Reducer

Asides from helping treat eczema, lavender oil can also help with symptoms of psoriasis, burns, and skin redness. Lavender oil gives you a possibility to use natural products for completely organic skin care which will reduce inflammation. Not just that, but also stress-induced redness can aggravate the skin, but (luckily) it can be calmed by lavender. Speaking of stress, lavender oil’s wonderful scent will help you relax and fall asleep easily. It can also help with itchy scalp: mix seven drops of oil with a tablespoon of virgin coconut oil, and gently massage it into the scalp. Also, try the amazing organic skin care products from 100 percent pure that contain lavender and lavender oil.

Has anti-ageing powers

Lavender oil will also keep your skin looking young and fresh, slowing down the aging process along the way. Skin care nutrition at its best, shea butter is moisturizing and makes skin softer while also helping to reduce visible wrinkles around the eyes and mouth. You can even make your own wrinkle-reducing face cream in no time. Mix a quarter of a cup of Shea butter with a quarter of a cup of organic coconut oil, add eight drops of Frankincense essential oil, and seven drops of lavender essential oil, and you’ll have all-natural anti-ageing cream.
People passionately love lavender because of its beautiful smell, and all the other additional traits that can make your life easier and your health better. It can cleanse cuts, and ease up bruise pain, so if you choose to carry a small bottle of lavender oil with you when you go somewhere, it’s like having your own perfume and first aid kit at the same time.

What to Pack: Holiday Beauty Tips. Guest Blogger, Amy G.

What to Pack: Holiday Beauty Tips.

Photo provided by guest blogger and pixabay.com
Photo provided by guest blogger and pixabay.com

For me, planning a holiday can be very frustrating.
Since there are numerous things you need to bear in mind, you sometimes forget the things that are of greatest importance. Last year I was traveling to Europe and was preoccupied with lots of things and constantly worried about what can go wrong.
This year, I decided to pay more attention to packing instead of worrying about irrational things. This time, I made a comprehensive list of things that I should bring with myself. I actually made a special concerning only my beauty products, because last time I forgot so many things and spent a lot of money getting them in Europe.
So, finally, here it is, my list of beauty products you should bring with yourself to a longer journey. Check it out!

Have your “emergency kit” in your purse

Apart from all the makeup and skincare products that you pack in your suitcase, you should always have your “emergency kit” in your handbag. I always keep makeup wipes, moisturizer, a concealer and my favorite lipstick in the purse. This helps me look fresh and radiant, even if I have just landed.

Bring your toiletries!

Although it might sound a little paranoid, I never completely trust the hotel room service. That is exactly why I always have my toiletries packed. For example, I cannot imagine my vacation without my own hair products, especially the shampoo and conditioner adequate for my hair type. No matter where you go, your hair is exposed to both sun and water and carefully chosen hair products for your hair are always more effective than those provided by the hotel.

Apart from hair products, I also love to have my own deodorant, makeup wipes, hand sanitizer, cotton balls, deodorant, perfume and a shower gel with me. And last, but not the least, you should never go anywhere without your skin-care products. Hitting the road without my favorite cleanser, right facial moisturizer and body lotion would be a nightmare to me.

Apart from your regular skin-care products, you should also pack the ones that you will need at the beach. For example, I always bring Jane Iredale Facial Spritz Hydration Spray that helps my skin stay fresh all the time, as well as a quality self-tanner and sunscreen, which is a must-have item on every vacation.
If you are afraid that you will forget something important, I advise you to sit down and make a list of all the toiletries you use every day. It helps me a lot, and I hope that it will help you, as well.

Don’t bring all your makeup!

Makeup is a must when you go on a longer holiday. Also, bringing too much makeup might make spatial problems. That’s exactly why I always restrict myself to a couple of products I like the most.
Don’t clutter your suitcase with unnecessary shadows and lipsticks you will never use. Pack your favourite mascara, eyeliner, a couple of lipsticks, foundation, a blush and your favourite palette of eyeshadows and you are ready!

So that is my list of must-have beauty products for this year’s Europe trip. I hope it will help you not to forget a crucial item when you go travelling! Enjoy!
