5 Easy Ways To Achieve Radiant Looking Skin

5 Easy Ways To Achieve Radiant Looking Skin

For those of us who aren’t blessed with the complexion of Cate Blanchett, it can be hard to achieve anything close to the radiant skin look. You may have blotches and blemishes that you don’t merely want to cover up but that you want to get rid of. You’ve heard hundreds of random old wives tales, like carrying an acorn around in your pocket will leave you wrinkle-free, and you just don’t buy it. Take a look at these more sensible ways to achieve healthy, glowing skin.

Exfoliate

It’s vital that if exfoliating your grubby pores isn’t a key part of your skincare routine, it needs to be added immediately. Exfoliation removes dead skin cells that can appear dry, flaky and blotchy from your face. This should leave a smoother surface on which to carry out the next stage of your skincare regimen. Ensure that you add the all important face toner to your skincare routine to remove oil build-up, unclogging your pores and allowing your skin to feel refreshed.

Cleansing

You could, of course, apply a bit of generic soap on a flannel and scrub away, but this won’t get you any closer to your goal of a glowing complexion. You need to rub your skin in gentle circles with whatever cleanser you choose. Look for products for sensitive skin containing natural ingredients. This way, your skin has less of a chance to react adversely to anything that may be synthetic.

Drink Well

To keep your skin healthy, just like any other organ of the body it needs to be hydrated at all times. Drink plenty of water, and if you want to go one step further when using H2O, try sucking on an ice cube. By doing this, you are cooling down your facial skin cells, resulting in a rosier cheeked complexion.

Boost Your Vitamins

Both Vitamins B and D can aid the regeneration of the skin’s cells and prevent you from looking red and having breakouts. Being deficient in either one of these vitamins could see your skin having a tendency to encounter spottiness and sweatier pores. Vitamin C has long been added to moisturisers as it is a powerful antioxidant that promotes healthy collagen. Sun damaged skin is also known to improve if a Vitamin C serum is used regularly.

Sleep

If you don’t want the dreaded grey, puffy bags under your eyes, it’s vital that you are getting a good night’s sleep. It isn’t necessarily about the quantity of your sleep, but the quality. Try and go to bed at a similar time each night to allow your body to fall into a healthy sleep routine. By getting some quality rest, you’ll wake up feeling refreshed, and this will be echoed in your complexion.

Achieving a radiant look isn’t easy, but if you look beyond your facial skin routine and also consider what you put into your body and how much rest you get, you’ll be able to strive for the healthy, glowing look.

How Exercise Influences Skin Health

How Exercise Influences Skin Health

Everybody by now knows how exercise is extremely important for your heart health, improving bone mineral density, lung health, improving body composition and even lowering stress.

However, the topic of skin health in relationship to exercise is not often mentioned.

And that’s a shame as it should be. Exercise does have a very important influence on skin health.

EXERCISE AND SKIN HEALTH

In a systematic review and meta-analysis on exercise training intervention in relationship to cutaneous microvascular reactivity Lanting et al (2017) with seven different trials included found out a clear benefit of exercise training on improving skin health.

This makes sense as exercise improves blood flow to the body and skin is no exception to that.

Increased blood flow means more nutrients and oxygen will be delivered to your skin. But not only that. At the same time, more waste products are transported out of your skin cells.

Exercise in a way provides a natural and cost-effective way of cleaning and nourishing your skin cells at the same time.

HOW REDUCED STRESS INFLUENCES SKIN HEALTH

Another mechanism by which exercise improves skin health is by its effects on reducing stress and anxiety.

The exact link between how reduced stress improves skin health is still under investigation, however, so far it’s safe to say that exercise has an important role in improving skin health through reduced stress.

HOW TO EXERCISE

As far as which type of exercise is best to achieve the best results of improving skin health it’s most probably aerobic types of exercises such as walking, jogging, hiking, cycling etc.

And as for the intensity of the exercise, light to moderate intensity has been shown to be best for lowering anxiety and stress levels in our body so it’s probably best to stick with this type of intensity if improving skin health is in your best interest.

WHEN AND WHERE TO EXERCISE

The last thing we have to take into consideration in regards to working out and skin health is, of course, the environment where we exercise.

When you train outside, especially during peak sun hours and especially during the summer you have to protect your skin from sun burns at all cost.

Sunburn damages your skin in a major way so be sure keep your training hours outside peak sun hours and be sure to apply sun screen whenever necessary.

 CONCLUSION

As you can clearly see exercise has a very important role in keeping your skin healthy mainly through improved blood flow and reducing stress and anxiety levels in our body.

Exercise is thus a very effective and more cost-effective way of improving skin health in comparison to other body creams, supplements or any other skin health products.

When exercising the best types of exercises for lowering stress are lower to moderate intensity aerobic types of exercises.

Also, be sure to protect your skin from excessive sun exposure when exercising.

Benefits Of Hyaluronic Acid

By Guest Blogger, Hannah D.

Cleansing dry skin is a tricky business. Any wrong product or ingredient can easily zap out the remaining moisture on your skin.

This, in the end, can spell more trouble.

Dry skin isn’t only unattractive, but it can also make you too conscious of yourself. You can end up with rough skin, flaking and even bleeding.

In choosing the right cleanser for dry skin, you need to pay close attention to its formula and ingredients. Make sure that there are no harsh components that can make your skin drier than it already is.

Pick products that have great hydrating properties. One of your best options is hyaluronic acid.

This ingredient is able to hold 1,000 times its weight in water. It can attract and retain moisture on your skin without being occlusive.

For these properties, hyaluronic acid isn’t just great for dry skin. It also makes a great choice even for those who have oily and acne-prone skin.

Hyaluronic acid can work wonders on aging skin, too. By keeping the skin plump and hydrated, it can essentially make wrinkles and fine lines a lot less prominent.

To know more about this ingredient and how it can help you deal with your skin concerns, check out the infographic below.

How to get rid of whiteheads

By Guest Blogger, Sancta

How to get rid of whiteheads

Do you feel that when you were just about to take relief that you managed a mighty escape from breakouts, but now you are caught up with whiteheads? Fret not, for there is a solution for everything. Whiteheads and blackheads are the not so cool partners that leave your face looking that one step away from calling ‘clear skin’. Although whiteheads do not make your skin look bad as a breakout, these are certainly unhealthy for skin and guess out, they are a type of acne too!

Whiteheads and blackheads are called comedones which are non-inflammatory acne blemishes. When your tiny skin pores are clogged with sebum, they cause whiteheads. When these clogged pores with sebum and bacterial growth come in contact with air, they get oxidized and turn black- blackheads ultimately! Whiteheads make skin rough, and gives it a dull look. They are a sign that your skin is in great need of a proper skin care routine and help. There are many ways to prevent and remove whiteheads. Topical removal of whiteheads at a spa, using Salicylic acid and Benzoyl peroxide are few of the most effective and best ways for immediate results. However, if aren’t very keen about these methods you can always turn to home remedies that help to remove whiteheads. Here are few…

Face packs for whiteheads removal

Baking soda with water: A small amount of baking soda with water is one of the best remedies to fight against the bacterial build up on face that causes whiteheads. It also helps to balance the pH level in skin which will check on sebum production. Use this mixture as an exfoliator once in a week. If you have sensitive skin you can avoid this remedy and try others.

Lemon juice: Plain lemon juice for face is a brilliant hack. Its alpha hydroxyl acid content works to balance sebum, unclog blocked pores and fight bacterial build up, and also lighten the scars and marks left behind by whiteheads. Apply lemon juice on your face twice a week and wash off after 10 minutes.

Tea tree oil: This is one of the best oils that work or whiteheads. Tea tree oil is anti bacterial in nature and also an astringent. This means your skin pores are tightened and also bacterial activity is reduced to a great extent, which thereby suppresses whiteheads. Use plain tea tree oil for face, leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes and wash off.

You can also use other natural products to combat whiteheads. They include; apple cider vinegar, cornstarch, oatmeal, honey, walnut powder, apricot, ground almonds, cinnamon, etc.

Pay attention to…

Fresh assorted vegetables in boxes on farmer’s market

·       Your diet: Consume a lot of vegetables and fresh fruits. They will help to clear out the toxin build up from body. Your skin will be naturally healthy which means less of sebum and whiteheads. Take Vitamin E and C supplements since they aid in skin renewal and repair. You can either include them as tomato face packs, lemon juice, orange juice, avocado mask, etc., or consume them directly.

·       Your skin care routine: Exfoliate twice a week and not more than that. Cleanse face twice a day without fail. Indulge in the use of facial oils to improve overall skin health. You can try Vitamin E oil, Kumkumadi Thailam, olive oil, etc. Keep hair away from face, change pillow cases regularly, avoid touching your face (you will be spreading the whiteheads without your knowledge), replace face towel with disposable tissues (to keep away bacterial build up), pamper your skin the amazing benefits of facials.

·       Your face products: Use cosmetic products that are non comedogenic, skin products that contain ingredients that are safe for your skin type (and do not cause you to break out). Clean your make up applicators regularly since they are the most viable source of bacteria.

How to Look Great at the Gym

By Guest Blogger Diana S.

How to Look Great at the Gym

Losing weight and staying fit is tough work and sometimes it’s hard to look your best when you’re covered in sweat from head to toe. But, if looking extra fly will motivate you to work out harder and more often, then you must try to get some new gym wear that will inspire you to hit the treadmill. The right gym clothes will not only make you look amazing but also make your workouts more efficient and easier. So, what to wear, what to wear?

Undergarments

Even though it looks super cute on you, that lace bra and underwear might not be the best gym clothes option. It certainly makes you feel sexy on a date night, but it will only make you feel uncomfortable at the gym. In general, no underwear will be as comfy during exercise as a sports bra and athletic panties. Sports bras provide some extra support, limit breast movement and pain, and typically come in light and breathable materials that help keep your skin dry. Men have it a bit easier here, just make sure your undies are comfortable.

Socks and shoes

Athletic socks should be your number one choice to wear during your workout because they’re made of light, synthetic materials that wick away sweat and don’t scratch your skin. No matter the length you prefer, sporting goods stores have all kind of athletic socks for you. When it comes to shoes, you should choose them according to your preferred activity. For instance, if you love to run, then getting cross trainers is just not a great idea, and if you’re an avid weightlifter, running shoes will not do the job. Don’t be scared to splurge some more money on high-quality shoes, otherwise, you’re risking injuries and all sorts of unwanted side-effects. But, generally, look for shoes that are light, comfortable, keep your feet cool and provide ample support.

Shirts

Both women and men have a wide variety of options here. Ladies usually opt for T-shirts, tank tops, long-sleeved shirts or sweatshirts for the gym. In general, gyms permit all sorts of tank tops, but halter tops and shirts that show excessive cleavage are usually frowned upon. Just to be sure, check your gym’s dress code to ensure which shirts are appropriate. Guys better avoid tiny tank tops, even if you’re a pro bodybuilder. We get it, you have a killer body, but obviously, you have an even bigger ego. Instead, get a high-quality sleeveless shell tank that will show off your arms and hint at your abs just the right amount. And as with all gym clothing, ensure your tops and shirts are made of light, stretchy fabric that keeps you cool and doesn’t limit your mobility. You can also check out some moisture-wicking options.

Pants and shorts

For many women, the only criterion when buying gym pants is that they match with their shirt. But, your foremost priority should always be to find shorts, yoga pants and sweatpants that are light, comfortable and allow a wide range of movements. Some ladies prefer elasticized biking-style shorts, while others favor the comfort and freedom they find in yoga pants. When it comes to the gentlemen, don’t try to make your swim trunks do your gym work. Instead, pick up a few pairs of men’s gym shorts that offer breathability and comfort.

Hair and makeup

If you feel too naked going to the gym without any makeup, then choose a sheer, light foundation, a couple of coats of waterproof mascara and pull your hair out of your face. It’s an easy and functional look that still allows you to look polished at the gym

Now that you know what to wear and what to avoid in the gym, there are no more excuses. Grab your gear and hit those dumbbells.
