Problem: Everything I’m pulling out of my closet smells like it’s been in there for too long and everything is wrinkled. What is that and how can I fix it?

Tips from Tia:

That tends to happen during the humid seasons. Closets are dark and humidity causes dampness, so a mildew can form in the closet space. A quick remedy to get rid of the smell in the garment immediately, is throw it in the dryer for a fluff. 5-10 minutes on high, will blast the smell and wrinkles. But, to solve the closet problem, the best tips for closet care can be done all year around.

First, fill a spray bottle with 1 part vinegar and 2 parts water. Spray the closet, hitting the clothes and shoes. The vinegar will kill the mildew and prevent static build up on clothes.

Next get activated charcoal. you can find it at hardware stores and such places. Hang it in your closet this will remove any moisture, so the smell and wrinkling will be gone. (If the charcoal doesn’t have it’s own pouch, you can use a stocking to hold the charcoal and hang it.)

This should help with the smell and moisture. If you continue to have issues, there could be a bigger problem inside the walls, so you may need to contact a reliable contractor.
