5 of the Best Ways to Invest in Yourself

5 of the Best Ways to Invest in Yourself

As adults, most of us are good at putting others first- we care for our kids, our parents/ grandparents and our partner. We’re always there to provide a shoulder to cry on for our friends and give them advice, but when it comes to ourselves we can be at the bottom of our own priority lists. Many of us can actually feel bad or guilty when we invest time or money into ourselves, but it shouldn’t be the case. Always remember that you’re important to, and you deserve to be happy. Investing into yourself shouldn’t be seen as selfish, but necessary. Here are a few of the ways you can go about it.

Research shows that fewer millennials tend to drive than generations before them, and when they do, they get their licenses much later. There are lots of reasons for this, from busy cities not being car friendly to the accessibility of lift apps like Uber and more reliable public transport. However, being able to drive is still a really useful skill to have. If you want to move away later in life you won’t be able to rely on the public transport system as heavily. Being able to drive can also improve your job prospects. Even if you don’t plan on purchasing and driving a car right now, taking your lessons and getting your license means you’re able to in the future if you need to. See learning to drive as an investment in yourself, it’s a useful life skill which could come in really handy.

Focus on health

There’s only one you; you only have one body so it’s important to take care of it as best you can. Your health is an investment, buy good quality food that’s going to nourish you and skip out on the cheap, convenient rubbish. You don’t have to have a gym membership to get fit, but if you find that having one encourages you to workout then don’t feel bad about spending the money on it. Spending any kind of time or money on your health is never going to be a bad thing. Eating well doesn’t have to be difficult, and these days it’s easy to fit it around your everyday life. From mail order, high quality foods delivered to your door (check out this omaha steaks review as an example) to opting for a healthy restaurant or a healthy dish at a restaurant if you go out. These days, most places cater for those looking to eat less fat or calories, so it doesn’t mean you need to give up going out and eating with friends.

Improve your smile

Your smile is so important; it’s how you communicate with the world and is closely linked with your self esteem. If you’re insecure about your teeth, you can find that you hold back, you cover your mouth with your hands or try to avoid smiling instead of just being in the moment with others. If you don’t like the way your teeth look, consider going to a dentist and seeing what they can do- veneers, teeth whitening and braces are amongst the treatments you can have. Taking care of your newly fixed up teeth is important too. learn about flossing and the importance of regular brushing. Even missing out on brushing your teeth a couple of times can be enough for cavities to start or stains to develop so it’s important to be consistent.

Get educated

Most of us couldn’t wait to leave school and get out into the big wide world, but later on as adults we can appreciate how incredible education is. It opens your mind and opens doors in your career, taking on more education is a smart move regardless of what path you’re on in life.

Travel

Finally, travel is more than just a luxury. It’s great for mental health and personal development, there’s nothing quite like experiencing new things around different cultures in different climates and completely different ways of life that makes you question your own. Travel gives you perspective, builds memories and gives you stories to tell. If you have the time and money, always grab the opportunity with both hands. You don’t always need a huge budget- road trips, backpacking and camping are all cheap and cheerful and allow you to go to new places without spending a fortune on hotels.

How To Become The New You

How To Become The New You

2020 is on its way, and is actually almost here. This can make anyone excited and also apprehensive as to what the next ten years might hold.  It’s anyone’s guess. When we see how technology, culture and many other interesting elements of life have developed in ten years, anyone who can accurately predict what will happen in another ten will only be giving their best guess, despite what they say.

However, as always, worrying about the future is often left second to caring about the present. This means that becoming the new you before or as the new decade starts can help you segment yourself into productive new habits with this decade change as a milestone. It may seem overly optimistic, but there’s no reason as to why you should consider it so.

All you may need is an encouraging element of support and also someone gently whispering that yes, you can achieve this. With that said, please consider our advice to this end, as we hope to fulfil this role for you:

Stop Asking For Permission To Be You

We can often think that simply being ourselves is the greatest sin we can commit. Perhaps you like watching anime, or playing online games, or reading young adult fiction despite being 30 years old. Perhaps you enjoy baking in an apron as a 45-year-old buff security guard. Perhaps you enjoy learning full-contact MMA despite being a pleasant, middle-aged schoolteacher. Have we listed anything out of the ordinary here? Perhaps. Is that something to be ashamed of? Never. Stop asking for permission to be you. To use a cliched but always relevant phrase – the people who matter don’t mind, and the people who mind don’t matter.

Resolve Your Weights

Weights can hold all of us down. For some, it might be guilt for something experienced years ago. For others, it might be that they have been struggling with food addiction, or are falling back into terrible habits. It’s never as easy as clicking your fingers and being rid of the problem weighing you down, but the resolution process means taking a careful approach and doing your best to overcome the harmful issues you are facing. This means taking that first step, be it utilizing excellent substance abuse treatment, or even admitting that you need to speak to someone, allows you to find great inner strength and peace knowing you are making progress.

Don’t Force ‘You’

When we think of who we want to be, it’s easy to force ourselves into a singular version of who we think we are. But the truth is, you’re not that. You cannot force who you are. Moulding yourself into who you become is achieved through following what you are passionate about, through trying to live up to your highest ideals such as kindness or good faith. If you can approximate these measures, you feel much more alive than you have done prior. Because instead of living as an artificial version of you – you’re actually you.

With these tips, we hope you can find yourself, because you have and will always be enough.

How to Ensure Your Family Is Thriving

How to Ensure Your Family Is Thriving

Life isn’t easy, that much is true. And it becomes even more difficult once we have a family to look after. Then, we need to make sure that everyone in our little clan is doing well and hitting all the milestones right on time. But of course, we don’t just need to settle for surviving as a family. We should thrive! And if you put a few crucial pieces in place, that’s just what your family will be doing. Below, we take a look at a few tried and tested ways you can ensure your family life hits new heights.

Live with Purpose

It’s normal that all begin to live on autopilot a little after a while. We’re in the routine of going to work, looking after the children, cleaning the house, and so on. When we’re so busy, it makes sense that we can’t always be as present as we’d like. It is worthwhile finding ways to live with more purpose, however. You’ll find that if you’re proactive with your family, then it’s easier to overcome the humdrum of the routine. Meditation can be an excellent method for staying focused and avoiding autopilot life.

Entertainment and Excitement

We all have responsibilities in life, but they shouldn’t be what life’s all about. We’re here to have fun and enjoy things! As such, one way you can ensure that your family is thriving is to make sure there’s plenty of excitement and entertainment in your life. Rather than just sitting around on a rainy Saturday, you could get crafty, or perform a play, or anything else that’ll get the creative juices flowing. Life is hard, sure, but there should always be time for having fun as a family: it’s those things that’ll form the basis of a happy childhood for your kids.

The Basics of Life

If the individual members of your family are all good on a personal life, then the whole family will be thriving. While it’s important to focus on the children’s long-term ambitions and dreams, it’s the fundamentals that should be given top billing on the priorities list. It’s things like their health, education, and overall fitness that’ll play the biggest role in determining their prospects. As such, you’ll want to learn how to prepare healthy meals for the family, find a trustworthy family doctor, and play an active role when it comes to their schooling. If the essentials in life are managed well, but it’ll be much easier for everyone to be at their best. And of course, this includes you: you’ll be in a much better position to provide for your loved ones if you’re feeling at your best on a personal level.

Get Organized

Finally, it’s worthwhile setting up a system that leads to robust organization. There are too many facets of family life just to keep them in your head. By developing a routine and managing all the duties with the help of communal calendars and so on, you can make sure that everyone’s where they need to be at the right time.

How To Take Yourself Sincerely, Not Seriously

How To Take Yourself Sincerely, Not Seriously

Pexels – CC0 License

In life, it is incredibly easy to take yourself too seriously. You may not think that you do, but the next time someone insults you, see how you react. Even if the insult is obviously silly or exaggerated, or coming from someone whose opinion you likely care little about, you will often take the insult and think about it. Is it correct? What if they are right? Why do they think like this? All of this can run through your mind, when in reality, that person may just wish to cause the most harm possible.

Of course, many of us learn how to deal with scenarios like that in our youth. However, that doesn’t mean we take ourselves any less seriously as time progresses. In fact, certain life scenarios, such as getting promoted at work, being complimented, or perhaps having faith in our self-confidence can lead us to take ourselves and our egos completely seriously.

So in either direction then, positive or negative, it’s common to see just how taking yourself seriously can be a bad idea. We would like to volunteer the following advice to suggest why taking yourself sincerely, not seriously, could be your best option:

You Understand Your Development

Seriousness and sincerity are completely different things, although they are parallel to one another. When you are serious about yourself, for example, you are much more likely to be critical of yourself. Make a mistake, such as telling a joke that lands poorly at a party, and you’ll likely start identifying just if you had a sense of humor in the first place, or why you are such a social failure. Sincerity shows that you had good intentions when you made the joke, and it’s not your fault if others didn’t respond to it.

It’s hardly something anyone will remember one hour from then. In other words, sincerity allows you to understand that you are a fallible being and can make mistakes, but that if your intentions are good, you are always learning and developing. In seriousness, there is no wriggle room. In sincerity, wiggle room is celebrated. It can help you stop pathologizing your progression through life, and instead lets you consider it as you move forward and try to better your approach.

Sincerity Has Room For Fun

Being serious is always trying to adapt yourself to the latest fashion trends, trying to fit in and understanding that your niche will never amount to anything without the latest fashion wisdom as part of its understanding. However, sincerity opens up room for fun with fashion, pure creativity, and also lets you make a fool of yourself. It allows you to purchase trendy leggings as part of a creative outfit idea, with no real event or extra plan to wear them by a specific date. In other words, it allows you to enjoy yourself. Additionally, it can help you make the most of a situation you were not expecting.

For example, in the serious mindset, purchasing a formal shirt too big for your body might be a mistake that should have been prepared for or considered when opting for a new retailer. With sincerity, you might use that oversized shirt as part of another outfit, or return it without anything to worry about. If you have humor and fun as part of your life, sincerity will help you open up to yourself in the best possible means.

Sincerity Is More Authentic

Let us say that we are trying to comfort someone who is experiencing the loss of a relative. Being serious about this matter must make you think that you need to comfort them in exactly the same manner prescribed by that advice column you read that morning. That you must never smile, must never say anything out of turn, or outstay your welcome even for a second. It’s so filled with personal rules and regulations that you’re not actually focusing on the person, you’re just focusing on how best to move though the situation despite your good intentions.

However, sincerity is there. It listens. It lets you crack an off-timed joke that is received with a small smile from the person you are comforting, or it allows you to talk about the subject without fear of being insensitive to an overdramatic degree. In other words, it is more authentic, and it allows you to connect with the person more thoroughly.

With this advice, you are certain to take yourself sincerely and not seriously. Watch yourself as you embody either one of these. If you pay attention, you will learn just how much of your life is dictated by one of these two approaches. We’d recommend you choose the healthiest options to the extent that you can.

How Do People Actually Feel Attractive?

How Do People Actually Feel Attractive?

Do you sometimes have that feeling, when you look into the mirror, that attractiveness is for other people?

We all have a bad day when we feel vulnerable; one of those days when all you want to do is to hide away until you’ve made peace with the reflection in the mirror. Bad days happen to the best of us. But they are not without consequences. Indeed, it’s hard to stand for yourself when your inner critic is stuck on a loop of ugliness. Attractive people never have self-doubts, you tell yourself. But that’s where you’re wrong. Attractiveness is in all of us, and that includes you even on your bad days. You need to find your way back to the real you.

They buy the clothes for it

There’s no denying it; you’re not going to feel at your most sensual when you’re wearing a pair of oversized joggers. What you wear plays a significant role in how you think. Feeling attractive is all about choosing a delicate lingerie set that revive your inner femme fatale. After all, you have to dress the part! It’s up to you whether you prefer a cheeky babydoll with a bow or a pair of alluring French knickers. There’s a moment when you have to give your mind a chance to look at yourself from the right angle, and that includes buying the clothes that make you feel like a woman.

They look after their body

Your body is a temple. You’ve heard the saying countless times before, but you’ve never really thought it through. There’s a double meaning to the temple imagery. Indeed, it means that you need to treat your body with the utmost respect, in terms of how you feed it and look after it. But it also means that, like a temple, it has the potential to shine – aren’t temples filled with the most delicate decorations? If you’re the kind of person who lives primarily on takeaway and goes to bed without removing their makeup, the chances are that the temple might be in need of repair works! But ensuring you give your body the vitamins and minerals it needs to stay strong and healthy and that you protect your skin, you’re guaranteed to feel like a goddess!

5 Ways To Get Self-Care Right

5 Ways To Get Self-Care Right

Self-care is something that we all need to think about, because looking after yourself is super important. If you don’t, you could find that you burn out, and you can’t do anything at all, so it’s totally worth it to give yourself a little break now and again. But how do you actually do this, and do you really have to go to a yoga class to feel like you’re looking after your mind and body?

Luckily, self-care comes in many different shapes and sizes, so you’re likely to find something that suits you. Here are 5 ideas to get the self-care newbie started.

#1: Switch off

If you’re going to take some time to recuperate from all of the stresses that life throws at you, then you need to switch off… like really switch off. It’s not enough to just chill out on the couch with your phone in your hand; you should try not to go on it for a few hours, and just do something that you really enjoy. If you’re still getting stressed out about emails, then you’re not chilling out enough!

#2: Look after your body

Another simple way to exercise some self-care is to look after your body, by drinking more water and having a healthy, balanced diet. Sure, treating yourself to something every now and again isn’t an issue, but getting your fruit and veggie intake nailed will make you feel on top of the world, so it’s worth giving your body some lovin’. Avoid smoking and alcohol if you can, as this will also help.

#3: Do what you love

Self-care looks different for so many people because we all enjoy different things. Whether you want to look for free spins slots and get your game face on, or you’d prefer to go for a long walk through nature, the important thing is to do what you really love. If you make time for this, you’ll soon find that you’re feeling a lot more fulfilled, so don’t just follow the self-care routes that others lay out!

#4: Have a candlelit bath

Look, we’re not saying that a hot, candlelit bath can fix everything. OK, we might be. Chilling out and really letting your muscles relax is a great form of self-care, and you’ll also come out of the other side feeling clean and comfortable. If you want to add a face mask in for good measure then this is certainly an idea that we can get behind, so get those candles lit, and find the bubble bath.

#5: Reconnect with loved ones

When the world around you seems like a stressful and confusing place, sometimes self-care looks like calling up a loved one. Whether you head out for dinner together or catch up over the phone, it’s just nice to know that the people that you care about are there, and that you can put the world to rights with them. We’d say that the warm, fuzzy ‘love’ feeling was self-care enough, don’t you think?

Enjoy nailing self-care, however you do it!

How To Take Care Of Yourself While Travelling

How To Take Care Of Yourself While Travelling

When heading off abroad on the trip of a life time, you rarely stop to think about factors such as self-care, do you? You most probably have health insurance in place, but as far as your health goes, that’s most probably it. Instead, you are probably focused on how incredible your trip will be and how amazing it’s going to be to get away and have the most amazing time.

However, what it’s important to remember is that taking care of your health is just as important as having an amazing time away. Because the fact is, that if you don’t take self-care seriously while traveling, you could end up not being able to make the most of, or enjoy your trip properly, as a result. So it’s essential that you take the time to think carefully about your self-care while you travel.

Wondering what aspects of your health you should be thinking about? Have a read of the tips and advice below!

Eat well

While you’re traveling, it’s far too easy to forget to eat healthily. The fact is that when it comes to what you’re eating, you will most probably want to try every new cusine that you come across, and while that’s all well and good, it’s also important to think about your health. Don’t fail to keep plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet, as otherwise your health – particuarly your immune system – will plummet as a result.

When ordering food, make sure to pick food that has a health factor to it, such as meals that contain vegetables or salad, so that you are continuing to get your five-a-day even while you’re traveling. After all, you don’t want to put your health at risk, do you?

Take healthcare seriously

Make sure that wherever you visit, you know where there is a primary care doctor available, so that should your health take a serious turn, you know where you can get help. The fact is that you never know when you’re going to get sick, so making sure that you know where there is medical help available is just good common sense.

Travel is all about freedom and not caring about all those ties we have at home, such as work and social status, but that doesn’t mean not taking any aspects of your life seriously. Your health should never take a back seat, it should always be taken seriously.

Exercise reguarly

The chances are that your appetitie for adventure and exploring will mean that you are getting plenty of exercise anyway. However, what it’s important to realise is that if you’re trying to work certain muscle groups, then you might want to find ways to work those muscle groups in a DIY way, such as lifting DIY sand weights or practising yoga each morning.

There you have it, everything that you need to know about taking care of yourself while traveling. Hopefully, the tips and advice above will help to make it far easier for you to look after yourself while you are out on the road.

  1. Express Yourself

Whether it be through drawings, diary entries, or dance sequences, it is always beneficial to express your feelings, and not bottle things up. If you find it hard to explain how you feel in words, you could show your drawings and paintings to your therapist, as a form of art therapy.

Expressing yourself artistically is also a great way to keep your mind and body active, and not dwelling on negative feelings and emotions.

  1. Get Active

As above, being active is a great way to escape from negative feelings as you generally will focus on the physical activity you’re partaking in, rather than anything else. It’s also proven to reduce stress, as it pumps your body full of endorphins, which trigger a positive response in the body. Scientists have proved that endorphins are very useful at elevating your overall mood, decreasing levels of tension, and improving your self-esteem. In fact, a simple five-minute aerobic session has been shown to stimulate anti-anxiety effects

  1. Be Social

Talking through your feelings with someone you can trust may be a great help in managing your mental illness. They may have also encountered similar problems to you, or have had similar feelings to you and so may be able to provide advice, as well as emotional support.

  1. Learn About Your Illness

Learning as much about your mental illness as possible may help you to feel more in control of it, which will reduce your levels of stress and anxiety. Having a read of some blog posts, websites, or even taking a psychology degree online will all provide you will masses of information, all of which could help you better manage your illness. They could provide you will information on different types of treatments, as well as information that you could give to your friends and family so that you know that they too will always know what to expect.

  1. Eat Healthily

Evidence has indicated that the foods you eat have a big impact on the development and management of certain mental illnesses, such as anxiety, depression, and schizophrenia. Those who have some level of mental health issue report eating fewer healthy foods, such as fresh fruit and vegetables, and more unhealthy foods, such as chocolate and chips, whereas over two-thirds of mentally healthy people report that they eat much more healthily. Stimulants such as alcohol and coffee, as well as many drugs, also have links to the development of certain mental illnesses. This shows that a healthy meal plan is an incredibly important factor in managing many different mental illnesses.

  1. Have A Routine

For mental illnesses such as anxiety, having a routine or a plan for the day can help to reduce stress, as you always know where you have to be and what you have to do next. Just be careful not to make the routine too strict; otherwise, you may get panicky if you have to deviate from the plan for any reason.

  1. Get Plenty Of Sleep

Getting too much or too little sleep can result in a range of negative emotions, such as stress, anxiety, and feeling depressed, and you will obviously feel very tired, even with too much sleep, which can make it difficult to cope with everyday life. You may also end up feeling lonely and isolated, as your tiredness may make you feel like you don’t want to be sociable. In extremely serious cases, if you already have a psychotic disorder, tiredness may even trigger a psychotic episode. For someone suffering from a mental illness, it is very easy to under or over sleep, which isn’t very good, when all of these negative repercussions come with it, and so getting into a regular sleeping pattern would be incredibly beneficial.

  1. Know When To See A Professional

Managing your own illness through self-care strategies can provide many people living with mental illness a sense of control over their life and their illness, which in itself can help lower levels of stress and anxiety, raise your levels of self-esteem, and reduce the symptoms of your mental illness. However, this isn’t always the case, sometimes things can go out of your control, and sometimes you may need the help of a professional, whether that be a therapist, a psychologist, or a doctor. If you start to feel as though things are getting out of your control or that you can’t cope with everyday life, it is always best to contact a professional, just to be on the safe side.

Hopefully, these self-care strategies will provide you a sense of control over your life and your mental illness. However, you must always remember that you can’t always do everything on your own. Sometimes the best strategy for self-care is knowing when you can’t completely care for yourself on your own anymore, and when that is the case there is always someone that you can contact, whether it be family, a friend, or a healthcare professional, that will be more than happy to help you.

It’s Time To Start Taking Mental Health More Seriously

It’s Time To Start Taking Mental Health More Seriously

Can you imagine if someone came to you and told you that they had a serious illness, something like cancer, but said that they weren’t going to see a doctor about it, or do anything to try and improve their quality of life? You’d be seriously worried about them, right? Well, why is it then that so many people are willing to do that very thing when it comes to their mental health? People will ignore it, pretend it doesn’t matter, and refuse any treatment whatsoever. This is because there’s a strange level of stigma around mental health that doesn’t seem to apply to physical health. But why should there be? After all, the brain is an organ just like anything else. With that in mind, here are a few things that you should start thinking more seriously about in order to take better care of your mental health.

Diagnoses

Image From Pexels

If there is something in your life that is actively causing it to get worse, then you should be willing to do something about it. If you had chronic stomach pain every day, then you’d obviously want to speak to a doctor about it and try to figure out why it was happening. And yet, people will spend years feeling miserable, or anxious, or disconnected from the world around them and still refuse to speak to a professional. If you feel like there’s something wrong in the way that you’re thinking or you’re worried about your moods, then you should always speak to a doctor. Whether it’s something simple like a persistent low mood or you think that you may have residual schizophrenia or any other serious disorders, the only way to deal with it is by getting a professional diagnosis. Ignoring a problem never did anything but make it worse further down the line.

Support

Image From Pexels

No one is ever expected to deal with an illness on their own, so why should you be able to just because the illness is one that affects your brain? Don’t shut out the people in your life because you’re ashamed of the state of your mental health. They might not be able to fully understand what’s happening but by communicating with them and letting them know that you need help, you can create a strong support network for yourself which can make even the toughest times a lot easier to deal with. There’s no shame in needing to have people to lean on from time to time.

Self-care

Image From Pexels

A lot of people are taught that needing to take time for themselves or put themselves first in any situation is inherently wrong and selfish. It’s incredibly important that you get out of this mindset because self-care is one of the most important parts of retaining control of your mental health. If you need time to yourself, or you need to spend the day under a blanket watching Netflix, that’s okay. Of course, sometimes self-care needs to take the form of being a little productive. Getting up and taking a shower can be an incredibly important step to helping you take better care of yourself when you’re really struggling.
