Uh, it’s approaching that time of the month again, where you dread the pain and everything which comes with your menstrual cycle. What if we told you it doesn’t have to be a horror story, but instead, a reason to relax and enjoy being a woman. Of course, if you have any serious health problems consult your doctor before making any decisions. Follow these tips to have a better period.

Pamper yourself

During our menstrual cycle, there’s no denying it can be hard to get on with life as normal. As we get on with daily duties, it’s important to make yourself feel good when you have spare time. The more you relax, the more in control you are; try listening to your favourite music, read a book or meditate. If you have the spare coin, you could even go for a spa treatment with a friend, or get your partner to give you a massage at home. Soak in a bubble bath and let your muscles unwind. You can do all these things either before or during your period.

Exercise regularly

If you keep up with a weekly exercise routine, this will have huge benefits to how you experience your period. Exercising affects your hormone levels and ultimately reduces menstrual pain, which is what we want! It may feel painful to exercise while on your period, but it has so many benefits. One of these is that it reduces fluid retention and stops the feeling of heaviness in your pelvic area. Another huge plus to exercising is that it releases endorphins into your body, which makes you feel happier and less stressed. If it seems your bones and joints are weak, consider looking at AlgaeCal reviews on Glassdoor as a source of calcium to strengthen them.

Keep your hygiene level up

We should try to keep ourselves as fresh as we can when we’re on our monthly. For the sake of your own self-confidence and other’s noses! It’s essential to change your pad or tampon every couple of hours, especially if the blood flow is heavy. You should shower regularly too, even if it’s a body wash, doing this keeps you as fresh as a daisy. When you wash your private parts, be aware of feminine care products that use too many chemicals. Try buying scent-free, sensitive wash for intimate areas as this avoids irritation and potential infection. Just remember, don’t feel like you need to be clean constantly as this will create compulsive and unhealthy behaviour. Keeping ourselves washed down there and our overall hygiene up makes us feel better and boosts our mood!

Try not to think about it

You probably think this is easier said than done, but if you take your mind off your menstrual cycle, you’ll feel a lot more relaxed, and the pain will seem less severe. Constantly dwelling about something draws more attention to it and always seems ten times worse than it actually is. Whether you do some work from home, research for an important college assignment or just watching a thought-provoking movie, keeping your mind busy is the key!

See, periods aren’t as bad as they seem. As long as you know how to treat yourself before and during it, you should be able to cope with ease.

The demands of modern life can weigh on everyone. It all adds up so quickly: the job, the kids, making sure you’re eating healthy and exercising regularly, the never-ending to-do list, outings with friends and relatives on the weekend. Oh, and don’t forget it’s your best friend’s birthday tomorrow. The world just rushes madly on, doesn’t it?

But what about your own peace of mind? Even when your life is filled with people and things you love, if you don’t take time out for yourself once in a while, you can find your tank running on empty too often. And let’s face it, every woman deserves to feel like a queen for day.

Here are five ways to indulge in a day of luxury that will leave you feeling refreshed, invigorated and ready to face the world again without breaking your pocket book.

Schedule a Spa Treatment

Not everyone can afford a day at the spa, but if you can, go all out. Schedule an appointment for a massage, a pedicure in one of those awesome pedicure chairs, a manicure or laser hair removal. While laser hair removal prices in Salt Lake City and around the country tend to fluctuate, laser hair removal is something every woman deserves to treat herself to. Or you can always create your own spa experience at home by sprinkling fresh rose petals around the bathtub, lighting some candles, adding a few drops of essential oils to the water and playing your favorite relaxing music in the background. Let yourself sink into the moment, breathe deeply and enjoy the peace.

Take Yourself out for Dessert

Take yourself out to a cafe or restaurant you’ve always wanted to visit, and order desert. Go for something you wouldn’t normally allow yourself to have, and savor every rich bite. If you’d rather eat it at home on the couch in your pajamas, order it to-go, and kiss public appearances goodbye for the day.

Do Nothing

Make sure you clear your calendar of commitments, because you’re going to need a block of time to do nothing while you’re queen for a day. Dress in your most luxurious, relaxing clothes, and put your feet up. Watch a movie you’ve been wanting to see, listen to relaxing music, meditate, or just stare out the window for a few hours and think, “I have nothing to do and nowhere to be but right here being me.” In the mad rush of life, we often overlook how amazing it can feel to do nothing.

Get Your Hair or Makeup Done

A few hours at the makeup counter or in the beauty parlor can make a world of difference to your state of mind. Get a trim, a color, or just discover a new shade of eyeshadow that looks awesome with your skin this season. You’ll be thanking yourself for the instant beauty lift.

Buy Something Beautiful

Every woman needs to feel beautiful. It’s easy to fall into our routines and forget to buy ourselves something new now and then. Go shopping with the sole purpose of buying something that makes you feel beautiful. Maybe a new outfit, a pair of ridiculous yet amazing shoes, a scarf, or a pair of earrings. Never underestimate the power of a new accessory to make you feel like you can take on the world again.

Whatever you choose to do for your day of queendom, just make sure it feeds your mind, body and spirit. If it stresses you out, don’t do it. Pick only the things that leave you feeling relaxed, recharged and beautiful.
