Taking Matters Into Your Own Hands: How You Can Help The Environment

There is something that is happening in the world that we all need to worry about, and that is climate change. Whether you know anything about this, or not, in inescapable fact is that we all need to start dealing with this problem because it is never going to go away on its own.

Experts may differ on their prognosis of the exact timeline, but they generally all agree that we will notice a drastic change within our lifetimes. And, if we do not do anything about this in the next few years, we are facing irreparable damage to the planet.

So What’s Going Wrong?

There are a number of things that are affecting the environment. Firstly, pollution is a big problem. When our power stations burn coal and gas to create the energy we need heat and power our homes, offices, shops, and factories, we are letting C02 and dangerous greenhouse gasses into the environment. Ordinarily, our planet can take carbon emissions. Trees take carbon dioxide and turn it into oxygen, which we all need for a healthy life. But we’ve chopped down so much of the earth’s forests that too much C02 is getting lost into the atmosphere and is gradually causing changes in the temperature of the planet. This leads to ice caps melting and sea levels rising.

Other problems that we face include large amounts of undegradable waste which is often dumped at sea, chocking our oceans and our marine life. Water is being polluted everywhere, from everything from runoff from animal agriculture, and the dumping of industrial waste. This causes a reduction in good drinking water.

What Can We Do To Help?

These problems may sound as though they are too big to help deal with. But they are all of our problems, and we all need to work together to fix them.

Conserve Water

You could do simple things such as fit a water tank such as the ones at https://www.clarktanks.com.au/ in your home to collect rainwater. This can be used for flushing toilets and watering the garden.

Drive Less

If you are a driver, you could look for ways to make fewer journeys in your vehicle. You may want to look at car shares, or getting the bus or cycling places. There are lots of ways that you can reduce your carbon footprint by changing your motoring habits. Have a look at getting an electric car in the future as these go a long way to helping to solve the problems.

Eat Less Meat

Adopting veganism and plant-based diets have been suggested by the UN as being one way that we can help to solve the climate crisis. So much of the world’s environmental issues are caused by animal agriculture, from deforestation to make way for farms, through to the amount of water that goes into making a hamburger. There is a very strong argument for reducing the intensity that we farm animals drastically. If you don’t feel you could give up totally, why not try a flexitarian diet, and look at reducing your meat consumption?

What Are The Biggest Regrets People Have?

What Are The Biggest Regrets People Have?

No-one lives the entirety of their life without a few regrets; the best you can hope for is that they’re the right regrets, that they’re the ones you can live with. You might regret not having seen your favorite band on their final tour, but that thought isn’t going to give you too many sleepless nights later on in life. There are some things however, that can cause problems, both in the immediate future and when a person is looking back and reflecting on how they lived. The good news is that if you know what these big regrets tend to be, you can do things to ensure that you don’t end up living with them in the future. Below, we take a look at some areas of life that can cause issues later in life.

Fear of Expression

Everyone wants to fit in, to varying degrees. There are benefits to working hard to establish and maintain good relationships, but in our quest to be accepted, it’s often the case that we dampen certain sides of ourselves. We might tone down our views so as to not offend others, even when we don’t know for sure that they will be offended. The other side of the ‘fear of expression’ coin could be ‘fear of ridicule.’ No-one wants to be laughed at, which does seem to be an unavoidable aspect of putting yourself out there — no matter what you do, there’s always a chance that someone — or many people — will judge, mock, and the rest. The choice is between bowing down to this reaction or standing tall!

Working Too Much

We have to work in order to live. There’s no getting around that one! But we don’t need to work fifty plus hours a week, for years on end. There are advantages to working long hours — you’ll be paid more, most likely — but you’ll be missing out on a lot of the fun aspects of life. Even if you enjoy work, you probably don’t love it enough to make it essentially your entire life. Of course, it’s easy to fall into the idea that you have no choice but to work as many hours as you can — but in 95% of cases, that’s nonsense. There’s much to be said for working fewer hours and gently decreasing your standard of living. You’ll have more time to enjoy the finer things in life.

Taking Friends and Family For Granted

You don’t need us to tell you how annoying friends and family can be. They push your buttons, they have their annoying habits, you seem them too often — it’s enough to drive anyone mad. But who can blame them for being less than perfect? Ultimately, when you’re in a difficult moment, it’ll be your friends and family who are there to pick you up, help you out, and they’re also going to be there for all your happy moments, too. Later in life, many people look back and realize that they didn’t treat their loved ones as well as they could have. So give thanks for them, as often as you can! And if you’re really struggling to move past their annoying habits, just remember that you’re not perfect either….

Living Too Little

There comes the point in most people’s life when they want to find a partner, settle down, and live the life they want. However, it’s possible that this process can come too early in a person’s life. Because youth is so fleeting, people who settled down too early sometimes end up regretting not trying different modes of living before they decided on whatever lifestyle they ended up living for the bulk of their life. If you find yourself in this position, then it’s important to remember that there are no age limits on pushing yourself to try new things — it might be a little more difficult when you’re older, but you can do it.

Life Moments

In a talk about love, Alain de Botton references an old Eastern European philosopher, who says that “get married, and you’ll regret it. Don’t get married, and you’ll regret it.” You can’t win, basically. The only way to make it more bearable is to look for a person who isn’t “perfect,” but “good enough.” That’s love! Now, it’s always advisable to think carefully about long-term compatibility when it comes to finding a life partner, but what about having children? There’s a biological impulse that kicks in there, and though you need to make sure that your financially and emotionally ready for it, the decision can sometimes feel like it’s been taken out of your hands. Few people regret having children; many regret not having children. They feel like they’ve missed out on an essential life experience. Of course, some people can’t, for biological reasons, have children — but that problem is slowly being overcome, thanks to the work of companies like www.MCRMFertility.com. Having children definitely isn’t easy, far from it, but it is worth it! However, it’s also worth noting that you should never have children just because you think it’s something that you “should do,” something to tick off a bucket list. This is a lifelong commitment we’re talking about here.

Being Lead Away

No-one has all the answers as they’re navigating through life, especially in their formative years, and even more so when they’re going through a rough patch. During those times, we can often look to others to guide us — but while we can be drawn to people who are, say, fun, or daring, or who otherwise have something that we lack, it’s important that we’re not lead astray. Many people end up making poor decisions because they fall in with a bad crowd, who are friends in a loose sense, but who cause us to make mistakes. For a small amount of time, it’s no issue — but if it has a long-term, negative impact on a person’s life, they usually, and rightly, end up regretting it.

Poor Health Choices

When we’re young, everything is easy (ish), when it comes to our health. Being fit in your twenties doesn’t mean anything. It’s easy. However, the habits we fall into during those periods can have lasting effects. For example, smoking, drinking too much, or eating poorly. If we abuse our bodies for too long, the damage will be done (because they become part of our lifestyle), and we’ll feel the effects later on in life. Things like drinking might seem harmless, and the data shows that some drinking alcohol might not have a dramatic effect on the longevity of your life — but it does have an impact on the quality of your later years. To stay up and active for longer, a person needs good, healthy habits.

Stay Well In 2019

Stay Well In 2019

The year 2019 has finally arrived, and it’s about that time where we reflect on new ways to start the year right in order to better ourselves, stay safe, and of course, be happy. But the big question is, how do we do that? What changes do we need to make in order to achieve all of those things and more?

Well, the best way to figure this out is to break everything down simply, and focus on all of these things individually so you can really look at what positive changes you can make.

Here are some examples to get you onto the right track.

Look after your body

Now is a better time than any to make a lifestyle change that betters your health. Looking after yourself is so important because you have the power to extend your life and make it more enjoyable just by what choices you make. The food you eat is essentially your driving force, so you want to make sure that you’re putting good things into your body that you require for it to work and function properly. Fruit, veggies, vitamins, minerals, and all the other good stuff is a must. This doesn’t mean that you can’t have your favourite naughty snacks once in a while, it just means have them in moderation. Pair that up with regular exercise to keep your heart pumping and your blood flowing, and you will feel great.

Cover yourself

We all know that accidents can happen when we least expect, and when they do come about it can be a very difficult time and make you feel as if you have absolutely no control. And for the most part, that’s because there are in fact many things in life that we, unfortunately, have no control over, but because of this, you should ensure you focus on the things that you can. So if for example, you find yourself in a car accident that wasn’t your fault, and you’ve been hurt as a result, and your vehicle has been damaged – don’t sit around feeling sorry for yourself – do something about it. These car accident lawyers are exactly who you need on your side to fight in your corner and get you all the compensation and care that you so rightly deserve.

Surround yourself with positivity

There is no better way to uplift your spirit and better your life, than by making sure you spend your time surrounded by positivity. This can mean a number of things, from the people you hang around with, to the job that you’re doing. If you have a career that brings you down and makes you dread waking up in the morning, then it’s time to find something else. Yes, money will always be an important factor, but happiness is something that you can’t live without otherwise there’s just no point to anything. So no matter how hard a decision may be, if you know deep down it isn’t right for you – change it.

Is It Time To Be Thinking About The Whole New Year New You? Let’s Debate

Is It Time To Be Thinking About The Whole New Year New You? Let’s Debate

November is here and while it may seem too early for some, many people are placing a lot of thought on the impending festive season and the celebratory New Year’s eve. While Christmas can be an amazing time to spend with family and friends, and enjoying loved ones company at many different festive parties and gatherings, there is nothing quite like that new year new start feeling, or is there?

So many people place a huge focus on new year and reel off as many new year resolutions as they can think of. While I don’t necessarily think there is anything wrong with this sort of behaviour, after all, wanting to better yourself in anyway can only be a positive experience, the whole debate I wanted to discuss was whether a new year new you is the right mentality? Is there too much pressure? Should we focus on small changes or go all out with big lifestyle choices? I thought I would explore some of the common new year resolutions when it comes to self improvement and perhaps provide an argument for them or against them in some way. Maybe it might help you decide how you want to tackle the whole self-improvement thing when the bell chimes midnight on the 31st.

A lifestyle change can be a good thing

So while new year’s represents the perfect opportunity to change your lifestyle, does it really need to be done? Is this whole new year new you thing the right approach? The truth is any change in lifestyle can actually be a positive experience, so considering this as your new year resolution or taking action with it right now could actually change your life for the better. Things like a different diet, maybe considering a plant based diet or cutting out certain aspects and ingredients could help to improve your health dramatically. It might be worth considering things like exercising more, being more active or improving your fitness levels. Again all positive lifestyle changes that can be made. A lifestyle change might be cutting out negativity in your life, or focusing more on the things that make you feel good. A new year new year lifestyle change could actually be a real positive experience to endure.

Changing your diet can work wonders

We may have loosely just visited this subject, but so many people base their resolutions on diet and more specifically losing weight. Is that really a healthy approach? Can what you intend to do in January really be sustained throughout the year? The truth is a diet change could have some major positive effects on your health, including helping you to lose a few pounds. But trying to drastically make a change with weight loss at the forefront of your motivation could end up causing you to fail at the first hurdle, which could impact you in other ways. Of course, losing weight is something that many people would like to do, but if you make that your sole intention, then it could end up causing more harm than good.

Tackling some of your own issues could boost your self-confidence

Maybe the new year means you want to focus on your own issues when it comes to self-confidence. Perhaps you really don’t like what you see in the mirror, or maybe there are certain areas on your body you don’t like. Perhaps you stomach is a problem area where companies like Dore Aesthetics could help resolve the issue. It might be that you aren’t happy with how you skin looks, or there is a problem with scarring from things like acne in the past. Taking action could provide you with real positive results, and that could be amazing. But again the best advice is to ensure that it isn’t your primary focus as it can end up consuming you.

Maybe you should start with small changes

So if you are still happy with that fact that the new year presents the perfect opportunity to make changes to how you look and feel then why does it need to be major changes that you implement on the 1st of January? A great tip is to focus on smaller changes that collectively can make an overall big impact on how you look and how you feel. For example, simply increasing your water intake daily could help improve your mood, the sleep quality you get and help with your skin tone and condition. Walking a little more often helps you on your way to become more active, which in turn helps you to feel more energised in the morning. Small changes can have a big impact on your life, and what you may find is that the smaller changes are far easier to stick with when implemented into your daily routine.

Is there too much pressure on the new year new you?

One subject that perhaps needs address is whether or not there is too much pressure on the whole new year new you mentality. If you have been happy with certain situations for the past twelve months why make that change right now? Is there just an underlying pressure to make a change because we feel we have no choice but to start January with a fresh approach? The truth is new year is a great chance to wipe the slate clean, and carry on as you intend to make the next year your best one yet. But try and avoid adding too much pressure on yourself, or feeling pressure from others to make changes you may not necessarily support. Is there a point that you could be making the change right now. Why wait for new year when you can start right now?

Is your mindset causing you the stumbling block to move forward

Finally, your mindset can be the biggest tool that helps or holds you back. A negative thought process can hinder your chances of success if you don’t believe in the change you want to make or want it enough. Changing your outlook could actually become part of your new year new you mentality? A positive approach to your thoughts and current life circumstances could help you to see things clearer.

I hope that this has sparked some thoughts about new year for you. I’d love to hear what your opinion is on the matter.
