Beautiful Skin From Within

Beautiful Skin From Within

If someone were to ask you about your skincare regime, you’d probably start talking about creams and lotions.

You’d talk about your nighttime routine, how you use face masks, what you think the pros and cons of K beauty are. There’d be a mention of serums, beneficial acids and how you use them, the luxurious feel of a moisturizer seeping into your skin.

That’s skincare, after all. It’s topical lotions applied to your skin, face masks draped over your face. It begins and ends at your bathroom vanity, save for the occasional research trip online.

… Right?

Wrong.

There is a fundamental to good skin that many women miss out on, purely because it’s not mentioned very often. The food you eat and the liquids you drink make a huge difference to how your skin looks. In fact, it’s genuinely not pushing the bounds of supposition to suggest that if you’re not taking care of what goes into your body, what you put on top of it doesn’t matter.

Your Skin Is The Biggest Organ

… so treat it like one.

Let’s say you wanted to improve the health of your liver. The best way to do that is through diet changes, both additional (such as eating more beneficial foods such as tomatoes and avocado) and by subtracting (cutting down your alcohol intake). The liver is an organ and thus we recognize the things we consume impact it – so of course, the same is true for our skin.

Improving Your Skin Health Improves You

It therefore easily follows that improving the health of your skin is going to make you healthier in general, too. Should you choose to eat and drink better as an additional to your skincare routine, then all that goodness is going to improve your general health. As Pink Mama points out, managing your well-being doesn’t have to be difficult.

So if it takes the idea of better skin and thus less need for lotions and potions to motivate you to make generally-beneficial changes, then all the better!

The Changes You Can Make

There’s no need to be patronizing, so there’s not going to be a list of the things you shouldn’t do for the sake of your skin (and overall health). You know it already. You may have heeded that advice or you may have ignored it, but most of us have heard it a thousand times over.

Instead, let’s look at what you can eat to give your skin health a boost – and all with a much lower price tag than the latest anti-aging fad serum!

  • Avocadoes. Packed with healthy fats and with a high lipid content, your skin will love you for adding these to your diet.
  • Sardines. They might not be the most tempting, but sardines pack a serious punch with omega 3 and 6 – all nutrients that your skin is craving.
  • Nuts, especially cashew and brazil nuts. Nuts have a high calorie content, but they are also full of nutrients and fatty acids that your skin will love!

Bone broth. Make it yourself from leftover roast dinners and you’ll increase your gelatin intake, improving skin health exponentially.

Have a regular skincare routine that you vary for the seasons

Skin care is important and should be a vital part of your routine in the morning and at night. But some of us can be a little complacent and lazy with our rituals. We either stick to the same products, forget to even do it, and we certainly might not take into account changing weather. However, having a regular routine in place can improve your skin tone and condition dramatically. Try and consider a heavy duty moisturiser during the winter months and something for a lighter application in the summer. Consider exfoliating your skin more regularly and use different face masks for more problematic issues. Even just using a separate moisturiser at night can make a huge difference to your skin condition.

Ensure that you protect your skin before applying makeup

Do you just apply makeup or do you add a moisturiser or primer to your skin first? It can be an added protection to your skin and avoid pores being blocked up if you were to consider applying a base to your face before adding any heavy duty makeup.

Consider other options to improve those signs of aging

Let’s be honest, some of us might be struggling with harsher drama when it comes to our skin. Perhaps too many wrinkles or sagging skin on our cheekbones and chin. It’s a common sign of aging, and while some people embrace getting older, others want to banish those signs and appear more youthful looking. This is when you might want to consider facial treatments like a laser facelift or visiting a surgeon for more cosmetic enhancements.

Drink plenty of water and improve your diet

Sometimes it is the old fashioned methods that offer the best results, and when it comes to your skin, this can ring true. Drinking plenty of water is one of the easiest ways to improve your skin tone and appear more fresh faced. There are also certain things in your diet you may want to reduce or eradicate completely. Alcohol, for example, can have an adverse effect on your skin, as can too many sugary foods and drinks.

Try DIY remedies for exfoliators and face masks

Finally, if you do some research online, you will find plenty of DIY face masks and exfoliators for your skin using household ingredients. They can offer amazing results and are often very cheap to reproduce.

I hope this has provided you a few tips on how to improve your facial skin condition.

The Health Benefits of A High Protein Diet.

The Health Benefits of A High Protein Diet.
A high protein diet can be exactly what you need to improve your overall health and well being. A high protein diet means 1-1.5g of protein per pound of body weight. It’s important not to mix this up with a bodybuilders idea of a high protein diet, which can be over 500g of protein a day! Many people argue high protein diets are bad for your health but base it on the bodybuilders standards. That angle is very extreme so we have made sure to base the infographic below on the “normal” meaning of a high protein diet. Bodybuilding supplements can be used to increase your daily protein intake easily but having a diet containing wholesome foods has greater benefits. Check out the infographic below and let us know what your favorite benefit is!
