Makeup Trends For A/W 19/20

Makeup Trends For A/W 19/20

Spring and summer are full of glitters and brights. The glossy lip, highlighter that speaks to you on a deep soul level, beach wave hair… It’s relaxing, colorful, and glowing.

But then when autumn and winter hit, the sky is a little let bright, the air isn’t as warm, and the trends begin to change. Skincare routines change too. The moisturizer you use needs to be a little thicker because the cold can chap your lips and skin pretty quickly. Those once loose and lovely beach waves get blown around and get frustrating.

But! Never fear, because your A/W trends list is here.

Barely-There

There is always space for the ‘no makeup, makeup look.’ And thanks to all of the beautiful youtube influencers, we have the perfect guides on how to achieve it. Shout out to Tati Westbrook for her gorgeous tutorial.

This is a runway classic that comes back year after year.

The makeup is lightly glowing, soft and the pops of spring neon yellow are replaced with soft smoked out nudes. It is the perfect time to pick up a new eyeshadow palette too. Well-nourished lips look plumper and healthy, and you can achieve it with a simple balm and a small blob of gloss in the middle of the bottom lip.

Swapping black mascara for a brown one keeps the look soft and natural too.

Glitter

Twice a year it (or more if you love it) glitter reigns queen. Festival season, where more is more and the festive season – where there is no such thing as too sparkly.

Keeping the rest of the face minimal, eyes were beaming on the runway. There is nothing subtle about glitter coated eyelids, so you can go all out when the mood takes you. OR, you can skip the eyes and try a glitter lip.

Halpern, Dries Van Noten and Rodarte took the glitter bold and beautiful.

The good news is you can find planet friendly glitter, and eye-safe glitter – so if you’ve been skipping the pretty plastic flakes for the sake of the planet – then fear not, you’re covered.

Bolds

But very subdued. Which seems like it just isn’t going to make sense, but Guy Laroche put paid to that. Replacing a black winged liner with a bright red. Again, the rest of the face was soft and dewy, making the bold swipe of color the star of the show.

If you already have a feel for the color you’d like to try then grab a colored eyeliner and get some practice in. If the only color you have on your face is your eyeliner, those wings need to be razor sharp.

If a winged liner is not your thing, then a light dusting of green or deep blue slightly blended out from the corner of the eye is rather eye-catching.

Gold

Ah, the true old faithful of A/W – any year, ever.

You can opt for a more metallic eye, with foils and creams or a softer look with gold used with browns and taupes. Just remember if you’re using creams and foils without a good primer, they can settle in the lines of your eyelids and age your eyes.

For a dramatic look, get the eyeliner out and smoke out that perfect line.

Big Lashes

Some of us love them, others – not so much. But if you spend some time working on your application now, you might just find come winter you are an eyelash master.

If falsies are too much faff, then pick up a volumizing mascara, and if you want to go even bigger – something with fiber.

If you remember the royal blue mascara from the ’90s, then you might love the next trend in lashes. Hot pink, white and blacks with a purple or blue hue. The rest of the face remaining subtly made up.

Lips

This probably doesn’t even need to be mentioned anymore but berries, reds and ultra glossy glosses and the go-tos.

However, the K-beauty smudged lips are pretty gorgeous. If you aren’t one for those perfectly lined lips, then the soft bloom of color that the smudged lip gives you is perfect. The hap-hazard style isn’t for everyone, as it can come off as unfinished rather than youthful.

Mattes be gone! A/W will see the rise of the gloss. Leaving lips looking moisturized, soft and hydrated rather than the dry matte look from the previous months.

So there you have it, the significant makeup trends for your autumn/winter of 2019 and early 2020. A nude base with some gorgeous twists.

Swap Your Way to Radiant Skin

Swap Your Way to Radiant Skin

Many of us strive for perfectly clear, radiantly glowing skin, but lots of us fall far short of the mark despite how many expensive skincare products we use. That’s because, although the right products can certainly help to improve your skin, it is often our lifestyles, and particularly what we eat, that determines how good or bad our skin looks from day to day.

The good news is, it’s possible to make a number of simple swaps to your life to achieve the radiant skin you’ve always wanted…

Swap Processed Foods for Whole Foods

I think we all know that highly processed foods are not the best for our health, especially eaten regularly in large quantities, but did you know that they’re really bad for your skin too? Most processed meals and snacks have a high-glycemic index, and this spikes the blood sugar, causing insulin to be released. When insulin reaches the bloodstream, it can get in the way of collagen production, and since collagen is what keeps our skin looking full, soft and supple, that can lead to dull, older looking skin.

Switching to a whole food diet that is rich in protein, slow-release carbs and vitamin-rich vegetables will ensure that you produce plenty of collagen and all of the nutrients you need to build protein, repair skin damage and get a healthy glow.

Swap Smoking for Vaping

Smoking is bad for your health, period. As well as causing cancer and heart disease, amongst other things, it can also make your skin look bad because those toxins that are released in the smoke are pretty harmful. If you smoke regularly, chances are you will age prematurely.

Luckily, companies like Blazed Vapes now offer an alternative in the form of electronic cigarettes, which don’t contain any of the nasties that threaten your health and your skin. Swap your usual pack of cigarettes for a vape pen and you should start to notice the difference pretty quick.

Swap Sugary Snacks for Fruit

Sadly, sugar is really bad for your skin. It can interrupt the production of collagen and elastin, which keep the skin supple. It can also give you a dull, dry complexion due to the fact it can spike blood sugar and cause inflammation.

If you really must have something naughty and sweet, then choosing snacks that have been sweetened with sugar alternatives like Stevia is a good choice. However, you’d be far better off eating a piece of fruit instead. Fruit does contain sugar, but it contains fiber and other vitamins and nutrients, which offset it’s negative effects too. Fruits also contain antioxidants, which improves the appearance, Vitamin C which is able to neutralise free radicals and keep skin looking youthful and even flavanols that plump the skin and help to minimise damage caused by sun exposure.

Swap Sun for Shade

It’s pretty obvious, but spending less time in the harsh light of the sun and more time in the shade is a great way to minimise skin damage and maintain fresh, radiant skin. Of course, some sun is good for us, so you shouldn’t dodge it completely, but when it’s really hot, hit the shade, and always wear sunscreen.

What’s Stopping You From Wearing Shorts This Summer?

What’s Stopping You From Wearing Shorts This Summer?

Winter has been long and unforgiving this year and, if you’re anything like most, you’re pleased to see that March is at least bringing some sunny days along with it right now. After what seems like forever, you can finally put those chunky jumpers away and start looking towards the season of salads and shorts. And, it couldn’t come soon enough.

The only trouble is that shorts are looking a little daunting now you’ve been able to cover your legs all winter long. The idea of bearing it all is pretty petrifying right now. By the end of last summer, you were wearing shorts loud and proud. Now, though, you’ve lost your nerve. And the chances are there are reasons why.

Shorts are just one of those items which can be tough to pull off. At the very least, you have to be confident in your body to make these work. While they can look fantastic when worn right, they can also become a fashion disaster. That’s especially the case if you make one of many short faux pas when wearing them.

But, what exactly are these faux pas, and are they behind your short-based fear this year?

Thunder thighs

After all those winter carbs, it’s possible that your thighs aren’t exactly streamlined right now. Who can blame you? Anything to get through the colder months. The trouble is that thunder thighs and shorts don’t go hand in hand. Before you know, you’ll be sweating it out in jeans through the warmest weather. Don’t let it happen. Instead, turn your attention to thigh fat now to ensure you slim down before summer hits. Something simple like bike riding or squats can make a difference here. Pair these with a more summer-based diet, and you could be bossing shorts before you know.

Trashy tattoos

Some short-based worries are a little trickier to address. Take, for instance, people who have unflattering tattoos on their legs or ankles. It may be that you got a terrible tattoo when you were young, or that you thought it’d be romantic to get a partner’s name. For whatever reason, you can’t stand showing that mark to the world. Perhaps you broke up with your partner during winter or grew up a bit. Either way, embarrassed doesn’t even begin to cover your feelings about it now. Admittedly, the cure for this isn’t as easy as exercising, but there are ways to work around this for short success. First, ask questions like ‘how does laser removal work?’ and ‘how much will it cost me?’. Once you know these basics, you can book up for a removal procedure well before the hottest weather hits. As simple as that, you’ll be able to reach for shorts without thought.

Shaving rashes

Shaving rashes are another common reason for worry when wearing shorts. No one wants to leave their chicken legs on display, after all. The trouble is that, if you aren’t careful, it’s all too easy to fall foul to this issue. This is especially the case if you’ve gotten lax with shaving during the winter. Suddenly shaving off that long hair could lead to all manner of problems. At least, it can if you don’t take care. As a general rule, though, there are things you can do to avoid this issue. Using high-end sharp razors can be a huge help in itself here. You should also aim to exfoliate and moisturize after every shaving session. And, if you haven’t done so in a while, it’s worth starting shaving now. That way, you can address any issues which arise in the initial aftermath of your first shave of the year.

What about height?

Sometimes, short aversions come about due to little more than height issues. People who are either tall or short may feel self-conscious with this choice as it can highlight your legs, and thus your height. Of course, there isn’t much you can do to address your height on the whole. What you can do, though, is consider different types of shorts. For taller people, extended options like Bermuda shorts could be the thing to even your legs out a little. For shorter ladies, low-rise shorts are sure to serve better. They can really lengthen the appearance of your legs.

If you’ve been shuddering at the idea of wearing shorts this year, it’s past time you addressed these issues. With a bit of luck, you’ll be wearing a pair loud and proud by the time the sun starts shining.

Can the Look of Your Eyebrows Change your Age? Tips in Action:

By Tia Cristy

Tips in Action:Can the Look of Your Eyebrows Change your Age?

Plucking your eyebrows when younger can actually make a face look more mature. But, once you start aging, hair pigment can change and grow in lighter. An easy tip for anti-aging, is to stop plucking eyebrows within the arch.

Keeping the brows cleaned up by tweezing, waxing or threading is acceptable, but allowing the brows to grow in more naturally, will diminish years, giving a younger appearance. Be sure to fill in the brows with a natural pencil or eyeshadow to make the eyebrows appear, actually fuller. Using a good eyebrow gel in clear like the one from Arbonne can tame flyway’s and keep your masterpiece on point.

Cell Phone Acne.

By Tia Cristy

Cell Phone Acne.

Problem: Hi Tia, I heard cell phone acne is a real thing. I have broken out on the side of my face, now and again, is that what it’s from?

Tip from Tia: Yes, you could certainly say, it’s a real thing! Your cell may absolutely be the culprit of your breakouts. The heat of the phone, mixed with your oils and makeup, not to mention the bacteria on the phone, can add up to a great irritation to the skin. The heat opens the pores. Bacteria can make its way into the pore, allowing the excess oils to then, clog, and wreak havoc on the skin.

The best prevention is to keep your phone wiped down, as well as being observant to placing it on clean surfaces. This will help reduce the bacteria. Cut the phone time, holding it on your ear only, by using speaker or bluetooth instead.

Keeping your skin clean and fresh, will also help in keeping the skin clear. If you see a lot of residue left behind on your phone after using it, wipe skin with a hypoallergic cleansing wipe or wash your face down, to reduce the chances of a breakout.

If you are having major problems with breakouts, contact your doctor for advice and specialized treatments.

Treating Milia Spots Naturally

Treating Milia Spots Naturally

What is Milia?

Photo by Moose Photos from Pexels

Milia spots are little white spots on your skin usually found around the eyes or lips. These annoying, tiny cysts are produced by an over production of keratin. Some folks call them milk spots.

The Medical Option.

There’s a safe effective way doctors remove milia from your skin by using a scalpel and shaving down the area to expose the cysts. Treatment is fairly painless, but can have a good price tag attached to it.

Natural Remedies for Milia that Work.

Two options we have seen work might not have permanent results, but neither does going under the knife, sometimes. Cysts of any kind are tricky… if the sack isn’t removed completely, a cyst can refill. These natural options don’t remove the sack, but can dry up and reduce the fluid inside.

Tea Tree.

Tea tree oil has plenty of benefits. Using tea tree oil on a cotton ball and placing for several minutes on the infected area can shrink milia. This process is almost immediate in appearance. The results only last a few days, but the process is safe and effective to be repeated every so many days. Be sure to stay away from the eyes. The fumes from tea tree are strong and can burn your eyes. Do not ingest tea tree oil. And if you are sensitive to tea tree, add a few drops of a carrier oil like olive or coconut oil to reduce the potency.

Castor Oil.

Castor oil is a great moisturizer for your skin. The oil is extremely thick and sticky. It’s a great oil to ingest if your constipated. However, the benefits for using it on the outside of your body are pretty amazing as well. Castor oil can give your skin a deep glow when used once. But not only that, recurring use where needed has been known to reduce milia. Not entirely sure why castor oil dries out milia when moisturizing the rest of your skin, but the results are hard to argue with. And, opposed to tea tree, the result seem to last longer than just a few days.

So if you are having issues with milk spots or milia consult with your doctor on your best options. You may find that going with one of these natural remedies just might be your best option!

How to Get Rid of Dandruff Naturally and Easily

How to Get Rid of Dandruff Naturally and Easily

Don’t you just hate dandruff shampoos? If you are battling with a dandruff problem, your initial reaction might be to reach for a dandruff shampoo. And there is nothing wrong with that. But the problem is, some dandruff shampoos make matters worse. They can dry your hair, make your scalp skin itchy and irritated, and generally worsen your condition. Natural ways for how to get rid of dandruff, on the other hand, are a much better option. For one, you know you are getting an antifungal and antimicrobial solution.

Why we get dandruff?

Dandruff can be a result of many things. The most common causes of dandruff include dry scalp or a condition that is medically known as “seborrheic dermatitis”. Another common cause of dandruff is sensitivity to hair products. Just think of all the hair products you use on a regular basis. Do you know how harmful they can be to your hair? All those gels, creams, sprays, and so on.

Last, but not least, and this is where natural remedies help, is the growth of a specific type of fungus. There are many over the counter products that can treat dandruff, but we firmly believe in natural products. If you want to get rid of the itchy scalp and flakiness, here are a couple of solutions that work wonderfully in eliminating dandruff.

Aspirin

The first association of aspirin is a “headache remedy”. Well, aspirin can do much more than help you with your migraine and headache problems. Aspirin contains salicylic acid, an ingredient found in many dandruff shampoos.

For this remedy, all you have to do is crush two aspirins to a fine powder. Add the aspirin to the normal amount of shampoo you use to wash your hair. Leave the mixture on your hair the next time you wash for one to two minutes, and then rinse well. Wash again with plain shampoo.

Tea tree oil

One of the best antimicrobial, antifungal, and antibacterial natural remedies is tea tree oil. This has been proven over and over again. Just a pinch of the oil is more than enough to combat any bacterial infection.

To use tea tree oil, just add a few drops of the oil to your favorite shampoo. Wash your hair normally, and you will notice results within two weeks. In addition to treating dandruff, tea tree oil can help with many other skin and hair conditions, like greasiness, unpleasant smell, itchiness, and more.

Apple cider vinegar

Many people around the world swear by apple cider vinegar as their go-to dandruff remedy. It is all thanks to the acidity of the vinegar, which changes the pH value of your scalp. That makes harder for yeast and fungus to grow.

For this remedy, you need to mix ¼ of a cup of apple cider vinegar, and ¼ cup of water. Mix them in a spray bottle, and spritz on your scalp. Wrap your head in a towel, and then allow the solution to work for 15 minutes. Wash and rinse your hair as usual after that. Repeat the treatment two times per week.

Baking soda

Baking soda and apple cider vinegar are widely known as the cheapest remedies in your household. And both help with dandruff. We explained how you can use apple cider vinegar.

For baking soda, you need to wet your hair and then rub a handful of the remedy vigorously into your scalp. Do not apply any shampoo. Just rinse your hair and baking soda will help eliminate all of the dandruff-causing fungi in your hair. Fair notice: in the beginning, you might notice your scalp and hair is a little dried out. But that will sort out in a few weeks, as your scalp will start producing natural oils. After that, your hair will be softer and free of flakes. Of course, you can apply conditioner if you want to speed up the process.

Garlic

Now, the thought of applying garlic to your hair might be a bit repulsive. We understand that. But you have to remember, garlic has more potent and powerful antimicrobial properties than antibiotics. This is what makes garlic a superfood, and a great dandruff remedy.

Just crush some garlic and rub it into your scalp. You can add some honey to avoid the potent smell of the garlic. Massage the remedy for a few minutes, and then rinse and wash as usual.

Mouthwash

Why do we use mouthwash? Well, to get rid of bacteria in our mouth. So, with that logic, you can use it to get rid of bacteria in your scalp.

Wash your hair with a regular shampoo, and then rinse with an alcohol-based mouthwash. Apply conditioner afterward.

Coconut oil

Coconut oil is one of the more tested and well-proven remedies for dandruff. Bonus points: it smells nice when you apply to your hair.

To use coconut oil, massage 3 tablespoons of the remedy into your scalp before showering. Let it sit for one hour, and then apply shampoo and wash your hair as you normally do. You can even wash your hair with a coconut oil based shampoo, which gives you more powerful results.

Olive oil

Another oil you can use for getting rid of dandruff is olive oil. It is a well-known folk remedy. How to use it? Just massage 10 drops of olive oil into your scalp, and then cover your head with a shower cap. Leave it to stay overnight. In the morning, wash your hair as you normally do with shampoo.

Of course, you can also buy a shampoo that contains olive oil for maximum results.

Lemons

If you have lemons on hand, you might have the best dandruff remedy in your kitchen. Squeeze some lemons, and then massage 2 tablespoons of the lemon juice into your scalp. Rinse with water. Follow with stirring 1 teaspoon of lemon juice into 1 cup of water, and rinse your hair with that as well. Repeat the treatment on a daily basis until you get rid of dandruff completely.

Winter skin feeling chapped?

Winter skin feeling chapped?

Staying hydrated during winter months is a necessity. Seriously, doing these simple things will help improve your skin drastically.

Drinking water like its hot is the start to great skin. Indoor heat can deplete your system quickly causing you to dry out.

You aren’t the only thing losing moisture. With the heater running during a lot during the winter nights, it’s sucking the water out of the air. To replace the water vapors in the air, you should place a vase of clean water near the heater to replenish water back into the air. It’s like an instant humidifier.

Adding oils into your diet like, olive, coconut or sunflower with also keep skin hydrated when the cold tries to zap all your moisture. Be sure to cook with nourishing oils instead of plain vegetable oil when you can.

For rough skin surfaces, I suggest trying oils on the skin as well. Putting coconut on the lips can keep them plump and soft. However, coconut oil or olive oil on the hands can leave a slippery surface until it is soaked in. Some folks however, feel it doesn’t penetrate as deeply as needed in the winter.

If that’s the case, for sever chapped skin that isn’t broken, talk to your doctor or pharmacy about trying a heavy duty cream like Biafine. This product is great for all types of issues like, diaper rash, burns and especially restoring moisture into the skin.

An extra added bonus… In France, Biafine has even been known to reduce fine lines and wrinkles! Honestly, don’t let the price scare you away. Remember, most times, you get what you pay for. And just a small amount goes along way, whether it’s on a baby’s bum or on the fine lines of mum… (Yeah, I couldn’t help myself.)

So if you’re combating the harsh results of winter, remember, hydrate is key. If you need an extra layer of moisture, talk to your doc or pharmacist about creams like Biafine to keep your skin feeling supple this season.

How to Avoid Sagging Skin After Weight Loss and What to Do If You Can’t

How to Avoid Sagging Skin After Weight Loss and What to Do If You Can’t

Who doesn’t want to lose weight fast? But few people remember that not all consequences of such a big change are positive. Sagging skin is the negative change that comes with a rapid weight loss. However, that’s an issue you can prevent if you plan your diet and exercise program right. And in case some sagging does appear, there are ways to remove it efficiently.

How to Prevent Sagging Skin After Weight Loss

The best way to deal with loose skin after weight loss is to prevent its appearance. This means you have to plan for this from the very beginning.

Diet to prevent loose skin

A healthy well-balanced diet is essential for any weight loss program. However, if you want to focus on skin sagging prevention, you should consume more protein. That will actually work out well for your goals because studies indicate that people lose more weight on a high-protein diet (Obesity Facts). One of the reasons for this is that protein-rich foods are good natural appetite suppressants. Eat them in the morning for maximum benefit.

Exercise to prevent sagging skin

The best exercise that will help tone your skin as you lose weight is strength training. Lifting weights and other workouts geared toward building muscles are what you need. This is because muscles will fill out the space left by they reducing layer of fat. There is no way to avoid sagging skin when you lose weight because your tissues are stretched. So the best you can do is to reduce the ‘empty space. Human skin is naturally elastic and should recover proper shape with time.

How fast should you lose weight to prevent loose skin?

There is no perfect rate of weight loss that will ensure your skin stays well-toned. However, it’s true that rapid weight loss is the main cause of sagging, because your tissues can’t adjust and shrink fast. The best way to avoid excessive sagging is to use a well-balanced program, like a 14-day fat burn diet plan. The plan should provide adequate nutrition that will encourage skin health as well as weight loss. Don’t forget that natural skin elasticity reduces with age and collagen destruction. Eating antioxidant-rich foods will encourage collagen synthesis.

How to Get Rid of Sagging Skin After Weight Loss?

The basic rules for how to get rid of loose skin after weight loss are the same as the ones for preventing it. You still need to grow muscles and boost skin elasticity. This means eating a lot of proteins and antioxidants. Vitamin C is particularly effective for collagen production.

Strength training is also a must. It will not only provide you with new muscles to sculpt your body into a beautiful shape. These workouts also stimulate metabolism and will kick up your skin’s natural recovery rate and encourage it to shrink.

Cosmetic surgery is also a popular option for dealing with sagging skin after weight loss. However, this is not a step to choose lightly, warns WebMD. The risk of complications is high, especially for people who were extremely overweight. You should never opt for surgical procedures without consulting your doctor. They will be able to realistically evaluate your chances and advise on whether the procedure is worth the risk.

If you want to be as healthy as possible, you should do your best to deal with the sagging skin naturally first. At the least, this will help you reduce the extent of surgical involvement.

You should also research cosmetic products that can help tighten the skin. While at it, talk to a professional beautician about non-invasive skin tightening treatments. These are much safer in but they require more time to produce visible improvements.
