Alternatives That Compliment Traditional Therapy

Alternatives That Compliment Traditional Therapy

Therapy can be such a powerful tool, but sometimes you want to have something that feels a little less clinical. Treatment can be emotionally and mentally challenging, too, leaving you feeling like you have been pushed to your limits. Typically therapists are great at what they do, and that is long-term work taking place. Alternative therapies can often be a little more gentle for the person taking part.

So if you are currently in therapy, or on the waiting list to be seen, you might like to explore some other options.

Yoga

This is an interesting one because you might not think that yoga would have such a significant impact on you mentally. But people who take part in yoga classes or do it from home find that it brings a considerable sense of peace. The breathing is controlled and designed to relax you and boost your relaxation and focus. The stretching releases tension that you are holding in your body too.

Massage

Trained reflexologists can work absolute wonders when it comes to triggering the right pressure points for you. As well as the room being warm and smelling divine, you’ll come away feeling lighter and relaxed. The music and silence that you get to experience is a great way to quiet your mind too.

Meditation

You can meditate any time the mood takes you, but in general, you are looking to have at least ten minutes of meditation per day. This trains your mind in dealing with intrusive thoughts. Listening to guided meditation with an app like Headspace or Calm will help you get started. Before long meditation doesn’t seem like something you have to do, but rather something you want to have in your life. Those ten minutes a day can give you a sense of peace and calm. Some guided meditation sessions will also talk through issues you might be facing at work or in your personal life.

Acupuncture

This is a traditional Chinese medicine that has a lot of history. Incredibly fine needles and placed into the skin on specific pressure points. They say that acupuncture is ideal for helping you to reduce stress levels, lower pain in your neck, back and joints, help with migraines and headaches, improve your immune system and enhance mental clarity. It has long been recommended as a form of alternative medicine and therapy. You’ll need a few sessions to start to feel the effects, but the routine of going can be a comfort for many.

Journaling

The joy of writing about your life can be as expressive and artistic as you like, or you can simply bullet point a few things. The act of writing allows us to explore our feelings and thoughts a little more in one of the safest spaces. And, if you like to draw, then this is even more enjoyable.

Alternative therapies and medicines can have a lot of power, aside from the belief that they are working, most of the time when it makes you feel good, and it is worth adding into your weekly or daily routine.

Tips For Feeling Healthier Over The Summer

When it comes to the warmer months, there’s likely to be a lot more going on in regards to your social calendar. That possibly means more indulging in food and drink which can often leave us feeling pretty sluggish. So here are some tips for feeling healthier over the summer.

Keep Hydrated

Water is the key to feeling hydrated, and it can actually have many other health benefits. By drinking a good amount of water each day, you’re giving that extra help towards flushing out the toxins and bad bacteria in your body. It can also help with your skin’s appearance because the skin cells need water in order to stay plump and glowy.

Nail Down A Sleep Routine

Sleep is very important to our bodies because it’s a time where we’re able to recover and repair ourselves from the day’s events. Nailing down your sleep routine is important to get your body relaxed and provide you with a more rested night’s sleep. Try avoiding your electronics an hour or so before and don’t bring them to bed with you. Avoid any sugary food or drink and caffeine too as this can end up with you feeling wired. That’s something you certainly don’t want to be feeling when going bed.

Try Alternatives

There are alternative medicines and treatments that you can have in order to help you feel healthier both on the inside and out. Things like cannabis pipes and CBD products have become more popular. Pilates and yoga are good for helping stretch and strengthen the body and vitamins in a tablet, or liquid form are something that many take on a daily basis in order to keep healthy.

Get Outdoors

This is the perfect opportunity for you to get fresh air in your lungs. Use the warmer weather as an excuse to get outdoors and to explore the area you live in. Either that or treat yourself to a holiday where you can do plenty of walking. The colder months can often restrict what we can do in the evenings and on the weekends. This can all contribute to feeling under the weather. So take advantage of the great parks or forests around you, perhaps take a friend or family member with you.

Eat Healthily

It can be easy to slip into an unhealthy diet, especially with all the extra social occasions you are invited to. However, it’s important to be strict with yourself sometimes and make a more healthier choice when picking out food from a menu or a drink from the bar. Make sure you are getting your breakfast each morning and start it right with a healthy option like eggs or yoghurt and fruit. Keep an eye on what your daily intake is and make sure you spend some time exercising.

So when it comes to summer, make sure you are looking after yourself in the best way to make the most out of these lovely warm months. Eat healthily, get outdoors and get plenty of rest.
