The Survival Guide When You’ve Got Workmen In

The Survival Guide When You’ve Got Workmen In

All homeowners know just how awkward it can be when there are workmen in decorating, doing repairs, or renovating the whole home. The house will be upside down, and you might not be able to stick to your usual routine. It can turn into a complete nightmare!

Thankfully, though, there are some tips that can help you survive at home while the workmen are in. Read on to find out more about them!

Leave Them To It

Some people would rather not be at home when the workmen are carrying out all of their work. That’s because it can be very noisy and they might end up getting in the workman’s way. So, you might want to arrange the workmen to come on days when you are at work. If they can only come when you are off, you might want to plan a day out with your family. Then, when you get home, you should find that all the work has been done!

Get To Know Them

If the workmen are going to be working in your home for a few days, then you might not be able to leave them to it every day. So, as you will be all at home together for a while, it’s a good idea to get to know the workers a bit. You can break the ice by offering them cups of tea and coffee as well as a few snacks. It’s also worth having a chat with them whenever they have their break. That way, you can get to know them, and you might not feel quite as awkward with them in your home.

Leave Things As Tidy As Possible

One of the worst thing about having workmen in your home is all the mess they leave behind. To ensure that this doesn’t build up too much, it’s important that you clean and tidy up after they finish each day. If you don’t have the time, then you might really benefit from hiring a cleaning maid service to take care of everything. It’s also a good idea to hire the cleaners to have one final clean once the workmen are finished for good. That way, the mess won’t linger around for a while after they leave.

Lock Up Any Valuables

Even if you hire some highly reputable workmen, you still need to take some security precautions. So, it’s worth hiding or locking up any of your valuables so that you are 100% sure that they are safe. It’s important that you lock up any valuable jewelry as this can have sentimental value and won’t be replaceable if lost. You won’t be able to lock up any larger items, such as a TV or a bicycle, so it’s worth moving these items into a bedroom in which the workmen won’t be working. If possible, you should lock the bedroom door.

Having workmen in your home can be a frustrating time for you and your family. But, hopefully, all of these tips can make it easier for you!

6 Great Tips for Team-Building Adventures

By Guest Blogger Marie N,

6 Great Tips for Team-Building Adventures

Does your team look like they need a bit morale-boosting and some more pep in their step? Then it sure sounds like they need a good team-building adventure. Here’s how to organize a team outing that’s useful, but also much more fun than boring old trust falls.

Best team-building happens in summer

Summer should be the obvious choice for your team-building event. During that time of the year, productivity is at its lowest: studies show that it can drop as much as 20 percent during summer! So, holding a summertime team-building event is the perfect opportunity to reinvigorate employees and get them excited about the rest of the year.

Feed a crowd

No matter what kind of event you plan, there has to be some food on the table. Team-building events can be mentally and physically demanding, so keep your team in top shape with a full spread of catered treats throughout the day. Don’t forget to include drinks such as water bottles, coffee or tea, and other snacks such as fresh fruit, trail mixes or cheese platters. Depending on the time frame of your event, plan to include breakfast, lunch, or dinner as needed.

Incorporate play with a purpose

Although your team-building event should mainly be an occasion for your employees to socialize, there should also be some fun games that have a deeper meaning. Good team-building activities are great for improving morale and leadership skills, but they should also have other benefits. Choose games that exercise creativity, amplify a team’s ability to problem-solve and work together, promote organizational productivity, identify staff-wide strengths and weaknesses and enhance everyday processes and procedures.

Make it a whole day event

If you really want to take advantage of the outdoors and beautiful sunny days, then take your team somewhere for a day filled with adventure. So, rent a bus, and head out to your nearest river or lake for some paddling fun.  Everyone can meet at a designated spot, but since the trip is usually half the adventure, look into charter bus rental services, and hire one to take you to your destination as a group. Public rivers and lakes usually have some sort of kayak or canoe houses where you can rent all the boats and gear required. Also, while there are kayaks for one person, encourage people to choose multi-person ones and pair up with people they don’t usually work with. Spending a day on the water will lift everyone’s spirits and get them ready for the next work week.

Or just an evening of brain-teasing

Don’t have time or funds to organize a whole-day outing? No problem, there are great activities that can be done in just a couple of hours. For instance, room escape games require leadership skills, teamwork, patience and most of all, logic. Your team will be “locked” in a room for one hour, and during that hour they have to solve various puzzles, find hidden objects and connect clues to locate the key or a code that will set them free. After the game is over, you can all go get drinks and celebrate your successes and forget your fails.

Or just blow off some steam

Forget about leadership, problem-solving and teamwork, and simply take your employees to a trampoline park for some jumping fun and a chance to work off the day’s stress. Many cities have local places with trampoline activities such as trampoline dodgeball or extreme basketball for those who appreciate a little adrenaline. Jumping is a great way to return to childhood and just forget about all the work problems and stress.

Now you’re ready to show your team a great time while increasing their morale and creating a great company atmosphere. And after the day is over, you’ll probably become the “cool boss” everyone looks up to.

How to get rid of whiteheads

By Guest Blogger, Sancta

How to get rid of whiteheads

Do you feel that when you were just about to take relief that you managed a mighty escape from breakouts, but now you are caught up with whiteheads? Fret not, for there is a solution for everything. Whiteheads and blackheads are the not so cool partners that leave your face looking that one step away from calling ‘clear skin’. Although whiteheads do not make your skin look bad as a breakout, these are certainly unhealthy for skin and guess out, they are a type of acne too!

Whiteheads and blackheads are called comedones which are non-inflammatory acne blemishes. When your tiny skin pores are clogged with sebum, they cause whiteheads. When these clogged pores with sebum and bacterial growth come in contact with air, they get oxidized and turn black- blackheads ultimately! Whiteheads make skin rough, and gives it a dull look. They are a sign that your skin is in great need of a proper skin care routine and help. There are many ways to prevent and remove whiteheads. Topical removal of whiteheads at a spa, using Salicylic acid and Benzoyl peroxide are few of the most effective and best ways for immediate results. However, if aren’t very keen about these methods you can always turn to home remedies that help to remove whiteheads. Here are few…

Face packs for whiteheads removal

Baking soda with water: A small amount of baking soda with water is one of the best remedies to fight against the bacterial build up on face that causes whiteheads. It also helps to balance the pH level in skin which will check on sebum production. Use this mixture as an exfoliator once in a week. If you have sensitive skin you can avoid this remedy and try others.

Lemon juice: Plain lemon juice for face is a brilliant hack. Its alpha hydroxyl acid content works to balance sebum, unclog blocked pores and fight bacterial build up, and also lighten the scars and marks left behind by whiteheads. Apply lemon juice on your face twice a week and wash off after 10 minutes.

Tea tree oil: This is one of the best oils that work or whiteheads. Tea tree oil is anti bacterial in nature and also an astringent. This means your skin pores are tightened and also bacterial activity is reduced to a great extent, which thereby suppresses whiteheads. Use plain tea tree oil for face, leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes and wash off.

You can also use other natural products to combat whiteheads. They include; apple cider vinegar, cornstarch, oatmeal, honey, walnut powder, apricot, ground almonds, cinnamon, etc.

Pay attention to…

Fresh assorted vegetables in boxes on farmer’s market

·       Your diet: Consume a lot of vegetables and fresh fruits. They will help to clear out the toxin build up from body. Your skin will be naturally healthy which means less of sebum and whiteheads. Take Vitamin E and C supplements since they aid in skin renewal and repair. You can either include them as tomato face packs, lemon juice, orange juice, avocado mask, etc., or consume them directly.

·       Your skin care routine: Exfoliate twice a week and not more than that. Cleanse face twice a day without fail. Indulge in the use of facial oils to improve overall skin health. You can try Vitamin E oil, Kumkumadi Thailam, olive oil, etc. Keep hair away from face, change pillow cases regularly, avoid touching your face (you will be spreading the whiteheads without your knowledge), replace face towel with disposable tissues (to keep away bacterial build up), pamper your skin the amazing benefits of facials.

·       Your face products: Use cosmetic products that are non comedogenic, skin products that contain ingredients that are safe for your skin type (and do not cause you to break out). Clean your make up applicators regularly since they are the most viable source of bacteria.

How to Look Great at the Gym

By Guest Blogger Diana S.

How to Look Great at the Gym

Losing weight and staying fit is tough work and sometimes it’s hard to look your best when you’re covered in sweat from head to toe. But, if looking extra fly will motivate you to work out harder and more often, then you must try to get some new gym wear that will inspire you to hit the treadmill. The right gym clothes will not only make you look amazing but also make your workouts more efficient and easier. So, what to wear, what to wear?

Undergarments

Even though it looks super cute on you, that lace bra and underwear might not be the best gym clothes option. It certainly makes you feel sexy on a date night, but it will only make you feel uncomfortable at the gym. In general, no underwear will be as comfy during exercise as a sports bra and athletic panties. Sports bras provide some extra support, limit breast movement and pain, and typically come in light and breathable materials that help keep your skin dry. Men have it a bit easier here, just make sure your undies are comfortable.

Socks and shoes

Athletic socks should be your number one choice to wear during your workout because they’re made of light, synthetic materials that wick away sweat and don’t scratch your skin. No matter the length you prefer, sporting goods stores have all kind of athletic socks for you. When it comes to shoes, you should choose them according to your preferred activity. For instance, if you love to run, then getting cross trainers is just not a great idea, and if you’re an avid weightlifter, running shoes will not do the job. Don’t be scared to splurge some more money on high-quality shoes, otherwise, you’re risking injuries and all sorts of unwanted side-effects. But, generally, look for shoes that are light, comfortable, keep your feet cool and provide ample support.

Shirts

Both women and men have a wide variety of options here. Ladies usually opt for T-shirts, tank tops, long-sleeved shirts or sweatshirts for the gym. In general, gyms permit all sorts of tank tops, but halter tops and shirts that show excessive cleavage are usually frowned upon. Just to be sure, check your gym’s dress code to ensure which shirts are appropriate. Guys better avoid tiny tank tops, even if you’re a pro bodybuilder. We get it, you have a killer body, but obviously, you have an even bigger ego. Instead, get a high-quality sleeveless shell tank that will show off your arms and hint at your abs just the right amount. And as with all gym clothing, ensure your tops and shirts are made of light, stretchy fabric that keeps you cool and doesn’t limit your mobility. You can also check out some moisture-wicking options.

Pants and shorts

For many women, the only criterion when buying gym pants is that they match with their shirt. But, your foremost priority should always be to find shorts, yoga pants and sweatpants that are light, comfortable and allow a wide range of movements. Some ladies prefer elasticized biking-style shorts, while others favor the comfort and freedom they find in yoga pants. When it comes to the gentlemen, don’t try to make your swim trunks do your gym work. Instead, pick up a few pairs of men’s gym shorts that offer breathability and comfort.

Hair and makeup

If you feel too naked going to the gym without any makeup, then choose a sheer, light foundation, a couple of coats of waterproof mascara and pull your hair out of your face. It’s an easy and functional look that still allows you to look polished at the gym

Now that you know what to wear and what to avoid in the gym, there are no more excuses. Grab your gear and hit those dumbbells.

Doing These Things Regularly Will Make You A Natural Beauty

Doing These Things Regularly Will Make You A Natural Beauty

If you want to be a natural beauty, you need to make sure you get into a consistent routine. Doing the things in this guide regularly will make you glow from the inside out, not to mention feel great. You’ll soon realise that you don’t need to wear a ton of makeup or spend hours getting ready in the morning to look beautiful. Read on to learn what to do!

Get Your 5 A Day

It’s recommended that we all get 5 portions of fruits and vegetables a day to stay healthy. Not only will it mean health in the long-term, it’ll mean looking and feeling great. Fruit and veggies are a great way to get our fibre intake up, as well as healthy carbs, and more color in our diets! Try to have a portion with each meal, and figure out healthy snacks you can have throughout the day. Fruit salad, vegetable sticks and hummus, and even vegetable rich foods like stews and stir frys are all brilliant examples. If you don’t currently ‘like’ vegetables, commit to trying one new one a week until you find something you like. It can take a little while for your tastes to change, but the more you cut down on junk and eat better, the more you’ll crave better foods.

Drink 3 Litres Of Water

People don’t tend to drink much water, and this leaves them feeling lethargic, amongst other things. Most people don’t realise that by drinking a large glass of water upon waking each morning, they can feel alert and energised almost right away! Add fruit to water to make it taste better, rather than cordials and things that can have bad ingredients. Drinking water with honey and lemon upon waking is a great alternative to coffee, and many amazing supermodels and celebrities swear by it too!

If you need motivation to drink water, you could download an app that allows you to track your water intake – some fitness trackers allow you to do this too. You can even carry a large bottle with you each day, and mark the times throughout the day on it, aiming to have drank that much by that time. You will eventually be drinking 3 litres of water naturally, and as your body gets used to it you won’t be making as many toilet trips.

Get Active

Getting and staying active will not only help you lead a better quality of life in the long run; it will make you look and feel incredible. You can better maintain and lose weight by staying active, and many people who exercise look younger later on in life. You don’t need to do hardcore workouts for this to be effective. You can simply make sure you walk a lot. Adding more steps throughout the day can be as simple as parking a little further away or taking the stairs rather than the elevator. Swimming, yoga, and pilates are all incredible forms of exercise too. Keep things interesting and varied and you’ll get into a good routine. Once you’re in a routine, it’s really tough to quit!

Eventually, you might feel like trying out a type of exercise that’s a little harder. As long as you always aim to improve, you’re going to look and feel great!

Say Bye To Dead Skin Cells

Dead skin cells can make the skin look dry and rough, on both the face and body. You should get rid of them regularly to make sure you’re glowing. Exfoliation can also keep the blood pumping healthily, as well as reduce lumps and bumps. Read up on reviews of the 10 best exfoliators so you find something that’s suitable for your face and body. The face needs a more gentle product, while the body can afford something a little rougher. There are products out there that aren’t 100% safe, and can actually rip the skin.

Once you’ve found a product that suits you, make sure you get into a frequency that works for you too.

Use A Silk Pillowcase

Silk pillowcases are incredible for all kinds of reasons. When it comes to your hair, they can help to retain moisture and prevent things like split ends from taking place. When it comes to your skin, it’ll reduce drag (unlike cotton pillows) helping you to wake up looking far more refreshed. They are perfect for helping the entire body retain moisture while getting a great night’s rest.

Take Your Vitamins

Vitamins aren’t always necessary; you certainly don’t need to take everything under the sun. However, taking a look at your diet and lifestyle and then selecting vitamins that suit you best is a good way to go about it. For example, if you exercise a lot, taking a fish oil supplement or a vegan alternative will help to keep your joints healthy and lubricated. A multivitamin is a good choice for just about everybody. If you’re a vegan or a vegetarian, make sure you look into suitable supplements, such as B12. Although these diets can have many great benefits on a person and the planet, you don’t want to develop any deficiencies or issues.

Focus On Self Development

Focusing on your own self development is a beautiful thing, and therefore will help to make you a natural beauty. How can you do this? Read books. Take courses. Follow your interests and passions. Don’t get stuck in a rut and become complacent. Being focused on your own development is one of the most incredible, attractive things you can do.

Start Smiling

Just because some of the biggest celebrities in the world refuse to smile doesn’t mean you should too. Smiling is far more attractive than a straight face, so make sure you do it more. The more you smile, the more you should find your mood lifted too! Smiling at a stranger always feels good and will no doubt make you more of a natural beauty.

Do you do some of these things already, or do you have your own routine that you feel makes you naturally beautiful? Leave your thoughts and comments below. Come back soon!
