Stress Isn’t Just Annoying, It’s Actually Dangerous!

Stress Isn’t Just Annoying, It’s Actually Dangerous!

We all get stressed from time to time, that’s just a natural part of life. Between work, family life and trying to maintain a healthy social life, there are plenty of occasions when things start to pile on, and you need to take a break from it all. For the most part, the best thing to do is just step back and relax for a little bit. Try to forget the things that are causing you stress, rest, and recharge. But what happens when you’re not able to do that? What happens when stress goes from being a minor and occasional inconvenience to being a constant and persistent part of your life? Well, it turns out that too much stress isn’t just annoying or inconvenient, it can actually be downright dangerous! Here are a few ways that too much stress can actually cause problems for you, your life, and your body.

Adrenal fatigue

Your adrenal glands are the primary stress control center in your body. They are incredibly important for maintaining correct stress levels throughout your system. When put under too much strain through external stress such as depression, anger, sleep deprivation or infection, then your adrenal glands can actually stop functioning properly. This can lead to adrenal exhaustion. There are a lot of different symptoms of adrenal exhaustion but some of them include weight gain and respiratory problems.

Weakened immune system

There is a lot less attention paid to the relationship between the mind and the body than there should be. However there have been links found between stress levels and a weakened immune system. How many us have been in the position where we get sick right at the moment where we really needed not to. Perhaps there was a big presentation coming up at work, or you were getting ready to move house. These kinds of situations can be incredibly stressful and those stress levels in your system can often leave your body vulnerable.

Heart problems

Too much stress hormone in your system increases your heart rate and constricts your blood vessels. This means that your heart is under much more pressure and is forced to work a lot harder, leading increase blood pressure levels. Studies have also shown a clear link between stress levels and a person’s risk of suffering a heart attack.

Relationship difficulties

This might not relate to your body, but it is still a risk factor when it comes to the stress levels in your life. If you’re feeling very stressed and under a lot of pressure, that can very often lead to difficulty communicating in your relationship, as well as sometimes taking that stress out on the people closest to you. Large amounts of stress also make you more likely to overreact to minor inconveniences. This is what often leads to minor disagreements turn into heated screaming matches for seemingly no reason. People with increased levels of stress often find it much harder to come back down from that place and calm down as well. It’s important not to let the stress of life get in the way of a happy, healthy relationship.

Get Beauty Sleep Not Baby Sleep!

Get Beauty Sleep Not Baby Sleep!

Ask any new mom, and I’m sure they will tell you exactly what it is like to try and get a proper good night’s sleep when there is a new-born baby in the house. And they will all say that it is pretty much impossible! One thing is for certain when you are blessed with a baby you definitely won’t be blessed with sleep. But, you will be happy to hear that having a baby doesn’t necessarily mean giving up sleep for good. Here are some brilliant tips to help you turn that baby sleep into beauty sleep!

Lie Down

Even if you don’t feel tired, it is important to rest while your baby is having a nap or while someone else is occupying your child. Even if you don’t feel particularly tired, you will find that simply lying and relaxing for an hour or so can be very rejuvenating and restorative. It doesn’t matter if you don’t even feel like closing your eyes. You will feel the benefits that come with simply lying flat and taking all the strain off your feet.

Don’t Use Coffee

When you wake up very early after little sleep, you might want to brew up a large pot of coffee to help you get through the day. However, this can be very counterproductive indeed. Sure, all the caffeine in the coffee can help you stay wide awake when you need to, but it will also make it very difficult to fall asleep and nap when you are able to. So try not to use coffee or other caffeinated drinks to keep you going. Instead, stick to a natural alternative, such as herbal teas.

Create A Comfortable Sleep Environment

If your bedroom is a great sleep environment, you will find it much easier and quicker to nod off at night. So make sure your bed is super comfy and has the ideal pillows and mattress for your needs, which can be found at Best Beds Boutique and other bedding stores. Make sure there is nothing to distract you in your bedroom either, like TV and computer screens. You will also find that blackout blinds are a great way to sleep through light nights.

Pump Breast Milk

The main reason why new moms end up getting up through the night so often is that their baby needs feeding. Unfortunately, dads don’t produce their own breast milk, so it has to be the mom who always gets up. But there is a way around this, ladies! You just need to start pumping your own breast milk and storing it in sterilized bottles. That way, your partner can see to the nightly feeds while you get some quality shuteye for once!

No one said it was going to be easy raising a baby. And no one said that you would get through it with plenty of energy! But, hopefully, all of these great tips will help you get a few extra hours of sleep each night so that you feel a little more refreshed each day.

Easy Ways To Work Spirituality Into Your Modern Life

Easy Ways To Work Spirituality Into Your Modern Life

Among the hustle and bustle of everyday life, many of us struggle to fit in anything to do with spirituality. In fact, how many of us can honestly say that we have been in touch with our spiritual side ever before? A lot of people tie it very closely with religion, when in fact, you do not necessarily need to be religious in order to be spiritual. But why would you bother being spiritual at all? Well, modern life is very hectic, and especially for women, can be full of all sorts of pressures and sources of stress. Getting back in touch with your spiritual side can help to put our worries and stresses back into perspective – thus helping you to live a much richer, more fulfilling life. The plus side is that you don’t need to change your whole lifestyle either – the kinds of changes you make can be so minor that you will notice how easily they slip into your existing routine. If you are ready to get spiritual and to improve your quality of life, here’s how you can do so.

Be in the present

You might think that you are one of those people who ‘lives in the moment’. But do you find yourself constantly worrying about the future, or spending time dwelling on the past? If you answer yes to either of these things, then you probably don’t live in the present quite as much as you thought you did. Actually living in the present can be learnt through a technique called mindfulness, which has its roots in ancient Buddhist traditions. However, it has now expanded across the world and is practiced by people of all religions/no religion too.

Carry reminders with you

We all know how children carry comforters around with them to help soothe them when they are stressed out. Now, we are not recommended that you keep a blanket or a stuffed toy in your purse to get out the minute you find yourself in a stressful situation. But having a little reminder to stay grounded on your person every day can be great if it’s all getting a bit too much for you. For example, you might choose to carry a tigers eye mala, or maybe even a smooth gemstone you can hold or rub when you feel yourself getting anxious or worried. A simple act like this can easily bring you back into the present and offer you perspective on your current situation.

Try yoga

If you want to combine your new found spirituality with a way to keep fit, why not give yoga a try? Yoga is an ancient practice and comes in many forms, but the general basis for it is moving through a selection of poses while being aware of the breath in the body. This can be incredibly relaxing and you may also find that you start to tone up and gain muscle from the practice too. Yoga classes are run in studios all over the country, so you’ll easily find one near you.

Keep It Sleek: Hair Tips To Get You Through The Winter

Keep It Sleek: Hair Tips To Get You Through The Winter

We’ve all experienced the dreaded hat hair at some point through winter – that unattractive plastered-to-your-skull look at the roots, followed by a strange sort of puffiness in the hair that was exposed to the cold air. Here are some tips to help you get through the winter without resorting to the terrible hat hair…

Keep Your Hair Protected

No, we don’t necessarily mean that you should wear a hat all the time – hat hair, remember? But you should try to keep your hair protected from the elements. If that entails a hat, that’s fine – but try to steer away from scratchy wool and go for fleece lined hats instead to keep your hair smooth. You could also consider putting up your hood or wrapping a soft scarf around your head instead of going for a hat.

Prepare For The Next Day At Night

Are you a morning shower’er? Are you prepared to change that? If your answer is yes to both questions, then look no further: your winter hair solutions are here waiting for you. If you wash your hair in the morning, then you probably use a hairdryer to dry it, meaning that your hair becomes dry and frizzy over time if you aren’t careful to use heat protecting sprays. If you wash it the night before, it’ll be much easier to dry it overnight without using heated products – and sleeping on a silk pillowcase will make it sleek and glossy. In addition, it’ll stop you going out with wet hair that might freeze and snap!

Splash Out On Quality Products

pexels-photo-54566Image source

Over the winter, a lot of the time your hair can look dull and lifeless – and something that could be contributing to that is the same old shampoo and conditioner that you’ve been using for absolutely ever. If your hair’s used to your hair products then it probably doesn’t respond as well to them as it used to, meaning that it’s time for a change. Look at the best natural hair products to cut out harmful chemicals from your everyday hair routine, and make sure that you choose the products to suit your hair type.

Keep Yourself Hydrated

Drinking water during the summer seems like second nature, but you need to ensure that you keep doing it through the winter months too – this will improve your skin and hair (and, if we’re honest, it will help your entire body to work better). If you don’t love the taste of water, go for a water filter or add some fruit for flavour. You should also make sure that you deep condition your hair once a week to reduce breakage and make it glossy and well-behaved.

Get A New Look

Finally, if you’ve been thinking about getting a new look for a while, why not go for it now? It’s harder to make big statements with your fashion over the winter, so you could do it with your hair instead – and having shorter hair will mean that you’ll have to do less to look after it. Not only that, but a new look will automatically make you feel beautiful and good about yourself.

Confidence- Boosting Beauty Tips

Confidence- Boosting Beauty Tips

The great thing about beauty products and treatments is they can really increase your confidence. Sometimes a good hair day and a fresh set of nails is all you need to give you a boost, make you feel put together and like you can tackle the world. If you’re experiencing any of the following common complaints, here’s how you can deal with them and boost your confidence.

Dark Circles and Puffy Eyes

Have you ever woken up in the morning looking like you’d done ten round with Mike Tyson? Busy schedules and poor sleep habits mean that most of us don’t get the sleep we need, and it’s quick to show in our faces. If you don’t want your eyes to give you away, there are plenty of things you can do to look bright eyed and bushy tailed- even if you don’t feel it! First, pop two spoons in the fridge for twenty minutes, and then press the back of them onto your eyes. The cool metal helps to shrink and de-puff eyes, it feels really refreshing too. Next, conceal dark circles using a peach concealer. This colour corrects and neutralises the blue tones under the eyes. You can then go in with your regular skin coloured concealer, but choose one that’s light and doesn’t look heavy or collect under the eyes. Next, a neutral eyeshadow look with plenty of black mascara can help eyes look bigger and more open and awake. A white eyeliner on the waterline can brighten things up even further.

Puffy Cheeks

Maybe a lack of sleep has caused puffy cheeks, or maybe your diet hasn’t been the best lately. Salt and sugar can both cause water retention. Drinking plenty of water to flush this out and addressing your food choices is the obvious step, but in the meantime, makeup has your back! Contouring and highlighting can give the appearance of sculpting and chiselling the cheekbones, making your face look slimmer and more defined. There are loads of tutorials online you can check out for techniques and products if you’re unsure. If your face always lacks definition, you could consider a non-invasive sculpting procedure like laser liposuction. This can make you look more attractive by making your jawline more defined, reducing jowls and giving you a nicer side profile.

Thin Lips

Our lips can naturally thin out as we age, although some of us never have particularly full lips naturally. Big lips are most definitely ‘in’ thanks to celebs like Kylie Jenner, if you want to boost your pout, there are a few things you could try. Aside from lip injections you could also use makeup to carefully overline and define lips with a good liner and lipstick. If you temporarily want to make your lips bigger to snap the perfect selfie, you could use a suction cup tool.

Skin Conditions

Acne, rosacea, birthmarks and other skin conditions can all cause a lack of confidence. When your skin is so visible, it can be a difficult situation to deal with. Thankfully there are products on the market that are excellent, and can cover up all kinds of marks and blemishes. If your skin is sore or prone to being irritated, try natural mineral makeup. This offers good coverage without the chemicals that can cause problems.
