3 Tips for Choosing the Right tires for Your Car

3 Tips for Choosing the Right tires for Your Car

Tires weren’t always designed the way they are today. The first models were made of iron bands attached to the wooden wheels. They were used for carts and wagons. The first use of rubber was recorded in the mid 19th century. Still, these were also very simple types of tires where all the load was placed on the rubber.

The first pneumatic tire appeared in 1845. The design patented by R.W. Thomson used air to absorb the shocks of the road. But this type of tire was only the beginning to invent the one we use today. While improving a bike, John Boyd Dunlop created the improved version of a pneumatic tire. That was I  1888 and was noticed only because the rider of the bike won the race.

Andre and Édouard Michelin were the first to use a pneumatic tire on a car in 1895. This is considered the beginning of the global use of pneumatic tires. Countries all around the world issued regulations requiring that all manufacturers start using pneumatic tires in production.

From then on, tires were only improved to reduce the fuel consumption, handling different types of road and carry an appropriate load. In order to take good care of your car, you have to know your tires. Since we are not all car savvy, here are some easy tips for choosing the right ones.

1.    Let us look at the basics

Tires are rubber containers filled with compressed air. They take the load of the car upon themselves, but also they have to handle the road conditions. Observe them as cushions which reduce the impact of the ride on the vehicle.

Nowadays, tires have from 19 to 25 components. The core of every tire is an inner liner since it holds the air inside and so gives the tire its round shape. Steel belts are used for stability and to flatten the treated pattern as much as possible.

A sidewall is located, as the name says, on the side. It defines the ride characteristics. For example, the softer sidewall can take a harder impact like bumps, while stiffer provides sharper steering.

Also, every sidewall on every tire has an alphanumeric code. These are dimensions of the tire. Most start with the letter “P” unless you drive a light truck where they start with “LT”. This code will help you choose the right tire for your vehicle, however that may not be the only helpful factor.

2.    Learn to read the code

As we mentioned, every tire has a code on its sidewall which contains information you can use to choose the right one. Correct tire size is a very common mistake, but it’s also an easily solvable one.

So let’s break down the code so you can understand what every letter and number stands for. The code starts with the letter “P”, which signifies the type of tire. Its followed by the three-digit number like 195, for example. This is the tire’s width across the thread and is shown in millimeters.

After the symbol “/”, follows another number which signifies aspect ratio of the sidewall. Right next to this number is the letter “R” for radial construction and a number which stands for a diameter of the rim. After a blank space comes the number which shows tire’s load rating and a letter signifying the speed rating. If there is M+S at the end of the code, this means that the tire is suitable for all-season driving.

3.     How to avoid mistakes

Even though having this code means that you can simply go to the store and buy a tire, unfortunately, some mistakes still happen. Consulting a car repair center is always the best choice if you’re unsure how to buy the right ones.

For example, you have to pay attention not to choose the lower-load tire. This is especially important when you are buying a spare tire. Traction is another aspect you need to pay attention to. Choosing a tire inappropriate for the road you’ll be driving on is actually a very common mistake. Every season requires a certain type of tires, as well as certain terrains like mountain, dirt or wet roads.

The cost of the tire differs depending on the vehicle. SUV requires different ones than the passenger vehicle. However, it’s very commonly noticed that SUV owners choose tires intended for the lighter cars because they’re cheaper. This is not only damaging to the car but also dangerous for the passengers.

So make sure that you use tires appropriate for your vehicle type, road conditions and season to avoid accidents and avoidable repairs.

Finally

This may be a lot to remember since people handle numbers on daily basis. Passwords, PINs, security codes and all other figures can be a little too much to handle. But, now that you know that the code to buy the right tire is right on its sidewall, you can remember fewer symbols. Alternatively, you can always go to professionals for help and have one less worry on your mind.

Tips To Help You Fully Unwind On Your Summer Vacation

Tips To Help You Fully Unwind On Your Summer Vacation

(image)

Summer is on the way, and that means only one thing for many of us: the annual Summer vacation. Finally, you will have the time to unwind and de-stress, improving your mood as you get away from all those things that put pressure on you in your day-to-day life. That’s the theory, anyway. To be honest, vacation time can be stressful in itself. From lost passports to missed flights, your relaxation time can be hindered in a multitude of ways. Still, we are here to help. Here are some useful tips to help you fully unwind on your summer vacation.

  1. Choose the right destination

You need to pick a place that won’t trigger your stressors while you’re away. You might want to avoid the crowds, for example, so don’t go to those places that attract multitudes of tourists. If you have a fear of heights, don’t think about scaling the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Find somewhere that will enhance your relaxation time, such as the Delta Hotels Grand Okanagan Resort with its fabulous scenic views, or a beach holiday in a remote destination away from the throngs of other holidaymakers.

  1. Don’t overdo your plans

Some planning is always useful, especially if you want to make the most of the area you are visiting (and you don’t want to forget anything vital). But allow time for your free spirit, as well, doing things at the spur of the moment instead of adhering to a packed schedule, and enjoying the moment rather than worrying about the next thing on your itinerary.

  1. Go with the flow

You’re on vacation – things will go wrong! You may choose the wrong thing from the menu, or you may get lost if you travel off the beaten track. Provided you aren’t putting your life in mortal danger, laugh off these mishaps and add them to your memory bank for your holiday stories back home. Life isn’t perfect, so don’t sweat the small stuff.

  1. Don’t always throw caution to the wind

We may seem as if we are contradicting ourselves here, but that isn’t our intention. Yes, there are times when you should go with the flow, but without a few precautions here and there, you are going to make life harder for yourself. So, don’t head out into the sun without a hat and lotion, don’t stay out late at night if you are unfamiliar with the town you are staying in, and don’t eat anything off the menu if you know your fragile tum can’t take it. Have fun by all means, but be wise as well.

  1. Turn yourself off from the outside world

To truly unwind, free yourself from anything that will remind you of your life outside of the holiday. You need to centre on the moment, and enjoy the time you have away from work and those other pressures that burden you. So, don’t be tempted to look at work emails, avoid social media for a while, switch your phone off, and appreciate the beauty around you. You will be returning to the world outside of your holiday soon enough, so don’t waste your time and energy by thinking about it when you’re away.

Finally

Whatever you’re doing this summer, whether you are on vacation or staying at home, we hope you find time to unwind and gain some peace in your life. Take care, and if you are going away, bon voyage!

Are E-Cigarettes Unsafe?

Are E-Cigarettes Unsafe?

The health risks of smoking cigarettes are now widely known and the ever-increasing prices of cigarettes are intended to discourage people from smoking. Also, in many countries, it is now illegal to smoke in a public place. Many smokers use e-cigarettes as an alternative, with vaping largely free of the negative connotations associated with smoking. However, research has shown that e-cigarettes are not a whole lot healthier than the time-honored tobacco equivalents.

Most e-cigarettes contain nicotine, which is known to have addictive properties and to make users more susceptible to other addictive substances. Researchers from the New York School of Medicine found that nicotine from e-cigarettes could lead to cancer due to damaging string DNA. Also, Swedish researchers discovered that the use of e-cigarettes containing nicotine results in increased heart rate and blood pressure within 30 minutes.

This infographic from Union Quay Medical Centre  in Ireland, educating children from a young age about its dangers and implementing stricter regulations about the sale and advertising of e-cigarettes.

Benefits of Black Seed Oil

By Tia Cristy

Benefits of Black Seed Oil

It’s known as a cure-all or black cumin. Black Seed Oil comes in a liquid or pill form, as well as mild or extra-strength. It has been known to make people feel brand-new overall. But really, what is Black Seed Oil?

What is Black Seed Oil?

Black Seed Oil is the result of pressing the seed of the Nigella Sativa plant. It has been used in Asia and Middle Eastern countries for centuries to heal the body inside and outside. The oil is safe to take internally or to place on the skin topically. Rumor has it, princesses throughout history used the oil as a daily moisturizer to remain youthful.

Uses of the Oil

The Black Seed oil has been found to reduce blood-pressure, so if you already have low blood-pressure you may want to use this oil topically. Always consult with your doctor when starting natural supplements. However, the side effects of Black Seed oil are next to nothing. Some have developed rashes. But there haven’t been major issues reported. Other healing benefits have been reducing wrinkles, healing scars, antibacterial properties, etc. Then, upon further investigation Black Seed oil has been used to treat viruses, disease, STD’s, resistant bacterial infections, liver issues, cancer, diabetes, stomach issues, hair loss issues and MRSA. It has reduced symptoms of Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and many neurological aliments. And on top of it all, it is a big promoter in weight-loss.

Have I Seen a Difference?

I started using the oil topically to see if I had any reactions first. It has a pleasant odor and absorbs fairly quickly into the skin. It feels silky, not greasy. I had extremely dry hands from a cold-harsh winter. I had used several of my go-to oil fixes and was only getting relief for a couple hours at a time. I decided to try a dab of the Black Seed on my hands. I have been problem-free for days after one treatment. Bonus, my hands still feel incredible. I started using it on my face only three-days ago, and I’m already happy with the results. We all know summer or winter months can be harsh on the largest organ. I’m feeling confident, I will continue to be happy with the results.

Can You Stop Taking Black Seed?

After all the research that I’ve done on those that use the oil, they have stopped the oil at one point or another for only a short period of time. It’s totally safe to stop. However, after a few months missed the positive reaction of Black Seed Oil and returned to taking the supplement again. (especially around Allergy Season)

If you are thinking about taking Black Seed as a daily health supplement, it’s recommended to start with the mild. If you are hoping to take it as a therapy, please discuss with your doctor on the dosage they recommend. If you need more information on dosage or Black Seed oil, contact The Blessed Seed. Tricky Travel Costs That Can Catch People Out- And How to Avoid Them

Tricky Travel Costs That Can Catch People Out- And How to Avoid Them

credit

Most of us would travel more given the opportunity, but something that holds many of us back are the costs. As well as booking the trip itself, there are a ton of other costs to consider and admittedly, it CAN all add up. However it doesn’t need to be this way, and if you’re careful you can travel or have a vacation without spending excessively and still have a good time. Here are some examples.

Don’t Spend a Fortune on Clothes

Aside from the cost of the travel itself, such as flights, hotels and transfers, one of the biggest costs most people find when they’re planning to travel is buying clothes. You might need some specialist clothing in some cases, good walking boots, proper socks and a good backpack if you’re going backpacking for example. However for other items, you really don’t need to spend a fortune. Some shorts and t-shirts, some long trouser and long sleeve tops will get you through most occasions while you’re travelling and needn’t cost much. Go to thrift stores, and shop in budget shops. Create a capsule wardrobe so that you don’t have to purchase lots of items but still have plenty of things to wear. You want to feel comfortable and confident, but you can definitely get away with spending less here if you’re smart about it. If you have a rummage through your wardrobe, you might find you have pieces already you can take with you.

Use an Amex Gold Card

If you’re a frequent traveler, you’ll know that premier cards come with a hefty fee. If you want all of the great benefits without the associated costs, then check out this Amex Gold Card review and see if this is something that would work for you. There are plenty of great perks, and you won’t get into debt because it’s a charge card meaning you pay the balance each month instead of rolling it over.

Utilise Public Transport

When you’re away, it can be tempting to rely on taxis and other private transport to get you from A to B. However lots of places, especially if you’re in a busier city will have great transport links so it’s well worth brushing up on what’s there and utilising them. Buses, trams, trains and coaches are all examples, have a look before you arrive and check out things like frequencies and costs, you could save yourself a fortune when it comes to getting around.

Eat Cheaply

When you’re away on vacation or travelling, you will of course want to sample some of the delicious foods of the country you’re in. But you don’t need to break the bank here, and you can certainly feed yourself without having to dine at a five star restaurant every night. If you want to try somewhere fancy, do some research and book one or two nice meals. The rest of the time, try markets which are full of incredible street food stalls. Cafes and casual eateries will work out cheaper, and for some meals you could purchase a few things from a grocery store and have an inexpensive meal in your room.

Landscaping Ideas for Your Backyard

By Guest Blogger, Diana S.

Landscaping Ideas for Your Backyard

Landscaping can be the most rewarding and relaxing process, but if you lack creativity, it can become daunting and frustrating. No matter how much you wish to transform your old, dull backyard into a fabulous oasis, the lack of landscaping ideas will create will create a real nightmare that will only stress you out. Therefore, if you still haven’t come up with the best solution for your Sydney backyard, we have a few ideas you’ll certainly love.

Add a pop of colour

When you want to create a relaxing feel, adding some greenery to your yard is the best solution. However, if you want to make your yard more appealing, adding a pop of colour is a great idea. Therefore, plant colourful flowers alongside green shrubs and trees to create the perfect contrast. Pathways without flowers next to them will look plain, so plant pink, red, white, orange, and yellow flowers on the sides of the paths to give them some extra charm. Your backyard would be beautiful with bellflowers,  roses, orange anemones and white daffodils embellishing the outdoors. If you want to illuminate your Sydney garden from winter to spring, plant camellia japonica and dahlias, while kangaroo paw will flower all year long.

Make a few smaller sections

Breaking your outdoor space into a few sections can significantly improve the look of your backyard. Not only will your garden look more interesting, but also it’ll appear visually larger since you won’t be able to detect all the areas at once. Plant screens, walled enclosures, and grade changes can serve as perfect dividers between the areas. To block bigger garden views use dwarf Alberta spruces, and surround the dining spot with planters, letting their close-up blooms pose as the perfect camouflage for the rest of the area. If you’re not sure how to create multiple areas in your backyard, look for professional landscaping services in Sydney, and let talented landscaping designers and architects do all the work for you. Thanks to the team of creative people, your home will get a fresh new look you’ll instantly fall in love with.

Create a garden paradise

With hidden rooms, inspiring views, meandering streams, and intersecting trails, you’ll create a perfect little sanctuary in your backyard. Add a special flower display, a bench, a fountain or a wall of plants. Clematis winding around fences and columns with its blue, purple, red, pink, or white blossoms would look fabulous in your home. Grow it on a fence, on a trellis, or in a container for best appearance. Allowing them to ramble and scramble over your shrubs is another option if you’d like a little more of a laissez-faire style. Since the weather is cool in fall and spring, consider planting clematis during these two seasons.

Accent with Containers

To bring life and softness to paved places, think about adorning entrances, lounging spots, and doors, with big containers full of blooming annuals. They’ll easily draw attention to any area you want, while also adding a pop of colour and vibrancy to the entire yard. You can place pots of begonias, petunias, fuchsias, and impatiens around your potting shed, dining deck, or maybe near the lounge, gates and doors, for example. However, try to focus on grouping the pots with a main colour, to make a statement. If you let too many hues pop up from everywhere, you won’t be able to create that staggering effect.

We all want a beautiful backyard in our home, but sometimes we just lack imagination and that’s when things get rough. Luckily, with the help of these few tips, you’ll manage to create a wonderful outdoor area that your entire family can enjoy for years to come.

Common Beauty Insecurities And How To Get Over Them For Good!

Common Beauty Insecurities And How To Get Over Them For Good!

There’s no shame in being insecure about something. In many ways, if you’re not insecure about anything, then you’re probably not human! It’s a natural way of life, we all have elements of ourselves that we don’t like. What’s more, it can take a lot to put these negative thoughts out of our mind and get over our insecurities for good. As such, every day is spent looking in the mirror and focusing on the little things that we don’t like, rather than the things we do like.

We all have different insecurities, but some are more common than others. Today, I’m going to look at the most prevalent beauty insecurities in modern women, and provide a bit of advice to help you get over them for good. My main hope is that this little guide can help all of you to start loving yourselves more!

My Face Is Full Of Spots

So many women are insecure about their appearance because they have breakouts on their face. They think this makes them look super ugly, and they’ll try and cover the spots up as well as possible. Often, this means going overboard with foundation, which just fuels the spots and makes the breakout even worse.

When you have constant issues with spots, it makes you so insecure that you’ll avoid leaving the house unless it’s essential. The thing is, there are so many solutions to this problem, and you’re probably going about it the wrong way. Instead of trying to cover your spots up with loads of makeup, work on addressing the cause of them. Is it because your skin is too greasy or oily? If so, work on cleansing your pores and taking better care of your face. Also, never sleep with makeup on and always wash your face before bed! Then, apply a thin layer of makeup, and only when necessary. If you’re not going anywhere, don’t bother with makeup around the house! If all else fails, see a doctor and they can prescribe acne medication to help you out.

My Boobs Are Too Small

When it comes to insecurities on the body, your breasts are usually at the top of the list. So many girls fear that they’re unattractive because they don’t have big boobs. Once more, the media has a lot to answer for this, as we’ve constantly seen attractive women with big breasts as leading roles in films, on magazine covers, and getting most of the limelight. Needless to say, you can feel very insecure when you don’t have big breasts, and this stops you from wearing things you might like the look of – such as crop tops, bikinis, low-cut dresses, and so on.

The good news is there are both temporary and permanent solutions to this insecurity. If you’re super self-conscious about your breast size and would kill to make them bigger, then why don’t you? Breast augmentation is common, and you can subtly enhance the look of your breasts if you want. It’s not for everyone, and I strongly suggest you see surgery details before you go through with this. This is the permanent solution, and the temporary ones can help give your boobs the appearance of being bigger, without actually changing their size. Things like push-up bras or padding can help make your boobs look bigger and fuller. You’ll be very surprised at how much of a difference a good push up bra makes to your breasts, and this can be all you need for a little confidence boost.

My Legs Are Too Chunky

Another body insecurity most women have is with their legs. A lot of girls see their thighs as being too chunky and wobbly. They feel like they jiggle when you walk, and it can make you so insecure. Especially around the spring/summer seasons where it gets hot, and loads of people wear shorts and skirts. You feel very insecure because you see everyone’s nice legs, and you think you’re being judged for being the only person still wearing jeans.

The reality is, you can easily take care of this insecurity if you’re willing to put in the hard work. All you have to do is start exercising and eating right. This will help you lose body fat, which slims down your thighs. They’ll lose that ‘chunkiness’ you don’t like, and you can also tone them up by doing squats and leg workouts. In fact, I’ll leave a video down below this paragraph of a sample leg workout to help you add muscle tone and firmness. In a matter of weeks, you can transform the way your legs look and feel a lot more secure about them.

My Eyebrows Are Too Light

Finally, we end things off with another insecurity that’s found on your face. Having light eyebrows has become a really big issue in modern times. There seems to be a big beauty trend at the moment where good eyebrows are a must. Everyone wants nice dark brows that are shaped well and finely trimmed. If yours are too light, then it looks like you have none at all, which causes major insecurities.

Again, there are both permanent and temporary solutions here. The temporary one is simply drawing on your eyebrows whenever you want to go out. Once more, I’ll link a video below this paragraph that gives a few tips on how to do this and make your brows look natural. When done correctly, you’ll see the effect looks so real, and no one will guess your eyebrows are really very light. The permanent solution is to get something known as an eyebrow tattoo. Essentially, you get eyebrows tattooed on you, so they always look a lot darker. It’s not for everyone and can be quite expensive. But, if you’re really insecure and can’t bear to even walk around the house with your natural brows, then this may be your best option.

As I said earlier, I really want this guide to help everyone with these insecurities. First and foremost; don’t be ashamed if you’re insecure. Secondly; don’t be ashamed about wanting to change things about yourself. A lot of people say you should just grow to love your insecurities, but it’s not as easy as that. Some people get really badly affected by the things mentioned on this list, so doing things to change the way you look can help you love yourself for once!

4 Tell Tale Signs That Your Relationship May Be Ending

4 Tell Tale Signs That Your Relationship May Be Ending

Breaking up is hard to do, or so Neil Sedaka would have us believe. Any relationship that ends, whether amicably or in a shouty mess is traumatic for everyone involved. You may have been devoted to the same person for years, only to witness the foundations of your bond crumbling. Trying to maintain an amicable end to a relationship is ridiculously hard, even for the most friendly of exes. Breaking up is intense, emotional and bittersweet. Although this may be a mutual decision, there will always be one person in the relationship who initiated the ‘break up’ thought. If this wasn’t you, it could be even tougher to go your separate ways.

Often we are caught in a state of flux with our relationship becoming more volatile alongside periods of breaking up and then making up. While the making up can be a lot of fun, the roller coaster motion of the relationship can be emotionally draining and is unsustainable. Something’s got to give. Take a look at these signs that may show you that your relationship is ending.

  1. Things Are Stagnant

Often when we are the throes of young love or feel the initial flames of a burning passion, relationships can progress quite naturally. You may begin dating before spending more and more time together. You might introduce one another to family and friends. You move in together, and then, that’s it. For many couples, this suffices, and they build upon the foundation of their relationship with shared experiences and become closer. However, for other people, they hanker after marriage and children. Unless spoken about early on in a relationship, one party could be in for a rude awakening when they realize that their partner is not interested in a piece of paper or becoming a parent.

The feeling of being stagnant and going nowhere in a relationship can be crushing. You may have been tactile initially and enjoyed one another’s company. If nowadays you spend your evenings sat on separate sofas glued to a smartphone or tablet screen with barely an utterance between you, it may be time to reassess your relationship. If you want different things from your partner, you need to end the relationship sooner rather than later. The fear of being single shouldn’t keep you tied to an unfulfilling relationship.

  1. Their Cute Habits Are Not Anything But

Remember when you first met your partner and they had the sweetest sniffly sort of giggle? Now that noise that emanates from their face every time they find something funny is driving you crazy. Or do you remember when your partner used to leave you sweet love notes in the oddest of places for you to find around your home? Now all you do is wince at the amount of paper litter dotted around your humble abode. If those traits that your partner has no longer give you the warm butterfly feelings that they once did, you may be outgrowing the relationship.

If you have been with your partner for a long time or you have even walked down the aisle and said ‘I do,’ it can be hard to make the break. However, firms like USAttorneys are on hand to give you impartial advice on the legalities of divorce, home ownership and assets. While the emotional side of breaking up can be testing, the practical and financial aspect cannot be overlooked.

  1. You Seek Time Apart

Often the first sign that we no longer want to be in a relationship is our newfound ability to find any excuse not to spend time with our partner. We may head out for dinner with friends a little more often, decline the offer of dates a little more or choose to spend a night in alone with a good movie and a tub of ice cream rather than spending it with your supposed loved one. If nearly all other eventualities are more appealing than spending time with your partner, don’t fall into the trap of ghosting. This is unpleasant and unkind. Sit down with your boyfriend or girlfriend and make the break. This is easier to do if you haven’t made any sort of long-term commitment such as buying a house together or marriage. In any case, you need to talk. Unless they are in complete denial, they will know that something is awry and possibly has been for some time. Your partner may simply be waiting for you to signal the break to allow you both to carry on with your lives.

  1. One Of You Is More Into The Other

While you may not be a commitment-phobe, the fact that your partner professed their undying love for you a fortnight after you first met may be enough for you to call a halt to the whole thing. At the same time, if you are the one who has been struck by Cupid’s arrow early on, it can be difficult to hold down your true feelings. You don’t want to appear clingy or needy when you have only been on a couple of dates. If it’s impossible to slow the relationship train down, one of you will become more emotionally invested than the other which can lead to a traumatic breakup. When someone feels suffocated in a relationship, that relationship will not end up being a long one.

Sit down with your partner, talk about your feelings and make an effort to take things slowly. If the next day you find a dozen roses at your door or find that your partner has lined up some apartments for you to view to potentially move in together, it’s time to break up.

Relationships, especially those that you thought would last forever, can be difficult to end when you have to wave goodbye to a future that you thought you had planned out. However, it’s better and healthier for all involved to make a clean break rather than make do and wallow in an unhappy relationship. For your own sanity and health, be single for a while, date when you want and enjoy getting to know yourself again.

Warts and all Airbnb review – What You need to Know

By Guest Blogger, Marie N.

Warts and all Airbnb review – What You need to Know

Almost ten years since it hit the market in 2008, Airbnb has become a staple for lodging services in the modern global society. Travelers, tourists, businessmen and women from all around the world are using Airbnb as a means to experience modern travel in a unique way from what was considered to be the norm, much to the chagrin of hotel chains.

If you are unfamiliar with how Airbnb works, and whether you should give this popular network a whirl, here are the pros and cons of Airbnb that will put your mind at ease and allow you to make the best possible decision in terms of money, accommodation, and experience. Let’s dig in.

Pro: a travel experience

Firstly, while Airbnb hosts a wide variety of demographic, it is important to note that it is primarily centered on travelers. But who is a traveler? A traveler can be anyone, and it can be a very unique persona, it all depends on the nature of your trip.

If you are a tourist, looking to experience the pampering that hotel chains offer, then Airbnb might not be the thing for you. However, if you are looking to imbue your mind, body and soul with different cultures, customs and the local way of life, then look no further.

Because you are staying in an apartment or a house, devoid of any management or room service (apart from what the host provides) you will be instantly thrown into the center of the local community, and their way of life. This is truly a unique experience, one which more and more people are opting for.

Con: non-professional hosting

Bear in mind that the majority of hosts are not professionals, as in they lack the training and experience of say a hotel manager. While there are extraordinary hosts on the platform with stellar reviews and recommendations, and while the quality of service is increasing across the board with each passing year, there is always a possibility that you will run into a host that is a bit unprofessional.

Fortunately though, unprofessional hosts are slowly becoming a thing of the past. Property management around the world, most notably the growing Airbnb property management in Sydney, has brought professionalism into private lodging that now rivals that of the finest hotels. With the rise of property management, travelers can rest assured that they will have an amazing stay.

Pro: cheaper than a hotel

Why do hotel chains twitch at the mention of Airbnb, you ask? Because not only does private accommodation offer freedom and a unique travel experience, it’s also cheaper than paying for a hotel room. This makes Airbnb an excellent choice for those traveling on a budget.

However, bear in mind that Airbnb hosts lodging options of every kind, from cheap rooms to luxurious houses, so there is something for everyone. If you have some extra cash to spend, you can definitely experience luxury on your travels using Airbnb.

Con: misleading photos

There is always a possibility that the accommodation is not the same as it was presented on the website, however, given the fact that Airbnb has strict rules and penalties for such cases, it’s less of an occurrence with each passing year. Be sure to communicate with the host and read all of the reviews before placing your reservation in order to avoid such situations.

Pro: your own place

Finally, the thing that is amazing about Airbnb and the thing that millions of people from around the world love, is the fact that you get to be in “your” own place, at least for the duration of your stay.

While hotel rooms are predominantly stale and mundane, often devoid of any personality or ambiance, private accommodation is usually rich in culture, personality, and has a unique flair. There is nothing quite like staying at a place that is meant to accommodate real people, as opposed to a hotel room with a bed and a minibar.

Airbnb is certainly not a platform without its quirks that need to be looked at, but it sure is a fun and inexpensive way to travel. Hopefully, these pros and cons gave you the information you need to make your next journey as pleasant and unforgettable as possible.

Most Common Sports Injuries and how to Treat Them

Even though physical activity is the best thing you can do for your body, when you are not being careful, many bad things can happen. Whether you are a professional athlete, a weekend warrior or a rookie, you still have a chance to get injured.

When it comes to injuries themselves, there are countless types and variations, but still, some parts of our body are simply more prone to damage than others.

And in the sea of countless sports injuries, here is the list of the most common ones along with the ways to treat them.

Strained hip flexor

Hip flexors are actually the muscles on the upper front side of thighs. Their main functions are lifting knees towards the trunk and assisting with moving legs toward and away from each other. These muscles can become weak in individuals who spend a lot of time sitting and have a poor posture while sitting.

Sports injuries to this muscle are usually caused by sprinting, inclined running and other activities that involve quick turns and sudden starts.

Symptoms include pain while raising the leg, while climbing stairs or getting out of the car, as well as running. Bruising in the front of upper thighs and groin may also occur.

The best way to treat a strained hip flexor is rest and icing for approximately 20 minutes at a time for the first 72 hours. After those first days of recovery, it is time to apply heat for 20 minutes followed by laying down and gently sliding heels and stretching hip flexor.

If symptoms, pain and limited movement are still present after two weeks, you should make an urgent visit to the doctor’s office.

Torn or strained ACL

The anterior cruciate ligament, or ACL, is the major kneel stabilizing ligament. The most common cause of ACL injury is slowing down and trying to pivot, cut or change direction. When ligaments inside the knee are torn, consequences can be severe.

Common ACL tear symptoms are instability when walking or turning corners, and increased swelling in the knee. However, even though a light strain or tear can be healed with the help of ice and rest, complete tear requires surgery and a couple months of recovery with a very aggressive physical therapy regimen.

Pulled groin

This is also called a groin strain. The groin muscles run from the inner thigh right above the knee up to the upper inner thigh. They pull our legs together, and can be injured when performing quick side-to-side movements. The injured person will notice difficulty with lateral movements such as getting in and out of the car, as well as bruising and tenderness in the inner thigh or groin.

Treatment includes rest and icing for 20 minutes periodically during the first three days, and heat after those three days, followed by gentle and proper stretching and range motion exercises.

Shin Splints

The most common symptom of a shin splint is pain in tibia – the lower leg bone. Usually, athletes that participate in activities that involve a lot of running (such as soccer players) are the ones who get this injury.

The best way to treat a shin splint is icing, rest and gradually increasing all running activities. Shoes with a quality support also play a major role here.

Sciatica

This is actually a back pain that can travel down the back of your leg and even your feet. The feeling can be associated with burning, numbness and tingling down the leg. It is usually seen in athletes who are often in a flexed forward posture, like cyclists, and ones that perform a lot of trunk rotation like golf and tennis players do. The pain itself can be caused by a pinched nerve or a bulging disc.

To alleviate the symptoms, try laying on your stomach or stretching your back and hamstrings. And if the pain persists for more than two weeks, seek medical assistance.

Strained hamstring

Hamstrings are muscles located on the back of the thighs. Unfortunately, they can get tight, and are susceptible to strain and injury (pulled muscle). One of the biggest causes is definitely improper stretching and lack of stretching.

This can be treated with icing and rest in early phases, followed by gentle stretching and overall strengthening in order to prevent another injury. If the pain lasts longer than two weeks, the athlete should turn to physical therapy or ultrasound treatments.

Golf or tennis elbow

This injury is usually seen in athletes who perform many gripping activities, just like golf and tennis players – hence the name. Due to strong and repetitive action, forearm tendons become inflamed and make lifting things, making a grip, opening the door, shaking hands and raising your hand or straightening your wrist very painful. Athletes also complain that their grip is weak.

Doctors treat this with anti-inflammatory medications and braces, in order to take the pressure away from the area and prevent further injuries. Stretching techniques applied by a physical or occupational therapist can also break down that stiffness and build strength gradually.

Cracked tooth

Believe it or not, but according to American Dental Assistants’ Association, every year around 5 million Americans lose teeth in sports-related injuries and probably the most common of them is a cracked tooth.

Cracked tooth happens when a player sustains a sudden blow to the face. Symptoms include a sharp pain when biting down, constantly present tooth pain, especially when eating and drinking, and losing a section of the outer enamel shell. However, this injury isn’t always visible to the naked eye, and a person may not even experience any pain, so there is another reason for doing dental checkups regularly.

When it comes to treating it, it depends entirely on the dentist, but when it comes to preventing it, wearing custom dental sports mouthguards during a boxing, or any full contact sport session is mandatory.

The concussion is the injury to the brain due to the head trauma when the brain is shaken or jarred. Concussions are extremely serious and should never be taken lightly. An athlete who experiences this injury should immediately seek help of a professional who has experience in treating concussions.

Symptoms include confusion, dizziness, headache, nausea, slurred speech, light sensitivity and delayed response to questions.

Common treatment involves rest with the minimal mental or physical stress.

Just because there is a risk of getting hurt, doesn’t mean you should now give up on doing sports. However, just like everything else in life, you have to be smart about it. Never forget to stretch, wear quality sports gear, and you won’t have to worry about anything.
