5 Things You Can Do to Feel Better about Yourself

We can’t always feel our best or be at our best. But in order to live a happier and more stress-free life, there are certain things you can do to help the tough times flow by faster.

Exercise More

Did you know that exercise actually makes you happy? While doing your workout, your brain recognises the activity as stress, which is why it releases endorphins which are also known as the hormones of happiness. And the more you “torture” your body with exercise, the happier you are afterwards! You can even get hooked on your daily workout and it is probably the best addiction you can develop. There is a long list of benefits including a healthier heart, lower blood sugar levels, a slimmer figure, a sense of achievement, better mental health, to name but a few.

Most people find it hard to endure a certain type of exercise. We tend to give up for all sorts of reasons: it is too hard, we don’t have the time, it is more fun to do other things or we simply get bored of repeating the same drill over and over again. You can solve this problem by changing the type of workout you do. Combine different activities such as running, cycling, swimming and going to the gym. Or try out some fun new ways to keep fit such as power yoga, pilates, kickboxing or even dancing.

Enjoy a Long Walk by Yourself

If you want a quick fix for your body and soul, then go outside and take a stroll by yourself! Did you know you can spend a lot of calories just by walking? In one hour, you can burn about 200 calories, which is one snack. And just being outside alone and enjoying the fresh air will help you clear your mind and forget about anything that was previously bothering you. Beautiful scenery will help you even more, so go to a park, forest, river bank or simply stroll along quiet streets.

But what if it is too hot, too cold, too windy or too rainy outside? Then you can walk at home! All you need is a few square meters and a step counter. You can play the music you like or even watch a movie! And if you need extra motivation, find walk at home videos online.

Eat Healthy

Changing your eating habits can also help you feel better about yourself. If you want to lose weight, start counting calories. You can download an app to help you monitor what you eat and achieve your goals. You should also carefully choose the food you eat. Read the labels and avoid products which contain additives, artificial sweeteners, nitrites, nitrates, and other nasties.

You should also try to eat more organic food and cook your meals from scratch. Instead of buying a pasta sauce or mayonnaise, why not make them yourself. Fresh, healthy food tastes better anyway! Whenever you can, cook your meals, because it can be so rewarding. And if you don’t have time to do that, buy healthy, quality ingredients which can be tossed together and prepared quickly, or order food from trusty restaurants.

Have a Cosmetic Procedure

Not happy with your looks? Why not treat yourself with a cosmetic procedure! If you need a small boost, try one of the non-surgical treatments such as lip enhancement, face fillers, acne treatment or laser hair removal. Perhaps you have a tattoo you are no longer happy about? That can be fixed too!

Cosmetic surgery is nothing to be ashamed of if it can actually improve your overall wellbeing. A small intervention can boost your confidence and let you embrace new opportunities in life easier. In some cases, it can even improve your mental health!

Have a Pampering Session

And occasionally spoil yourself with a pampering session! Book a treatment at a beauty salon to fix your brows, get a wax or have your nails done. It will make you feel so much better about yourself! Or even go to a spa and enjoy a massage, an indulgent cosmetic treatment, a sauna or an energetic swim in the pool. It is a great idea for a girly outing with your bestie!

Alternatively, stay at home and dedicate an evening to yourself. Light up your favourite candles, make a bubble bath, put a rejuvenating mask on your face, do a scrub and use your most loved lotions and potions. Then tuck yourself in comfy pajamas and watch a series you are hooked on. It is one of the best ways to end the day and fill yourself with positive energy.

The Dos & Don’ts When You’re Trying To Lose Weight

The Dos & Don’ts When You’re Trying To Lose Weight

From

Losing weight isn’t an easy feat, but then, if it were, no one would be overweight. Unfortunately, there is also no one-size-fits-all solution for those want to lose a few extra pounds, as everyone is different and everyone’s body burns off fat differently. However, there are a few general rules that everyone should follow when they’re trying to lose weight. Here they are for you to consider.

Don’t Starve Yourself

The first and possibly most important piece of advice for anyone trying to lose weight is to never starve yourself. Not only is this incredibly unhealthy and could lead to anorexia, but it also isn’t a successful way to lose fat. In fact, your body will try to store more fat than it’s burning, and you’ll lose muscle instead. You will also likely start overeating at some point and will put on even more weight than you initially lost.

Do Create A Meal Plan

Instead of starving yourself, make an effort to eat foods that are healthy and full of nutrients, rather than fat and sugar. Creating a meal plan will help with this, as you’ll know what you’re supposed to be eating for each meal, so won’t just order a takeaway or buy a microwave meal on a whim.

Don’t Expect A Quick Fix

There is no quick fix for losing weight, so don’t look for one. Despite what the internet may say, there is no magic pill that will fix all of your problems. Liposuction won’t work either, as it is meant to contour the body after weight loss, rather than remove large amounts of fat. Just look at some liposuction videos, if you don’t believe me. Losing weight is a long game, I’m afraid.

Do Drink Lots Of Water

It’s important that you drink enough water each day for good health, but if you’re trying to lose weight, it’s even more important. This is because it is necessary for metabolism to occur, which burns calories and fat. It also helps you to feel full, so you don’t feel the need to eat as much.

Don’t Cut Out Foods

If you want to eat healthily and lose fat, the last thing that you should do is deny yourself the odd doughnut here and there. Trust me, having an unhealthy snack once in a blue moon isn’t going to ruin your weight loss, but not having one could, as you’ll just crave unhealthy foods more and more.

Do Have Will Power

Unfortunately, once you’ve had one unhealthy snack, you might want another one, so you’re going to have to stop yourself. Don’t start thinking that it’s okay to have two slices of cake just because you’ve had one, because, before you know it, you’ll have had the whole thing to yourself. You can treat yourself, but you can’t overindulge.

Losing weight is difficult, and it’s different for everyone. However, as long as you follow these general rules, you should find it a lot easier to shed your fat and lose a few pounds.

The New Year’s Resolutions You Shouldn’t Make This Year (And We Ones We Should Make Instead)

The New Year’s Resolutions You Shouldn’t Make This Year (And We Ones We Should Make Instead)

As the year draws to a close, many of us are letting out our waistlines and carving new notches in our belts in anticipation of a few weeks of festive gluttony. “It’s okay”, we tell ourselves “I’ll get right on it in the New Year!”. Thus, we plan a long and extensive list of positive life changes that we tell ourselves we’ll make at the start of January. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with making positive life changes, but the concept of deferring them until the New Year may be wrong headed and even counterproductive. Here we’ll look at some of the resolutions we find ourselves making year on year that we absolutely should not make this year, as well as potentially more helpful and productive ones that we should make instead.

Why New Year’s Resolutions rarely ever work

They’re a tradition that we’ve indulged in since the days of ancient Rome but, in the words of Tim Minchin, “I don’t believe just ‘cause ideas are tenacious that means that they’re worthy”. However well we may mean when we make them the simple fact is that our brains do not want us to keep them. They’re easy to make and rarely do we fully consider how difficult they may be to keep when we make them. Small and specific life changes are often way more effective. Thus…

Don’t: Say you’ll lose weight this year

It often has a starring role on the top of resolution lists but as frustrated as we may be with our bulging midriffs around this time of year, making a resolution to “lose weight” either through vigilant diet and exercise or a visit to a bariatric center is rarely a great idea. It’s fairly nebulous and we tend to go about it without having specific goals or a clear strategy of how we will meet them. Instead…

Do: Say you’ll make healthier food choices

Vague promises to ourselves about weight loss are rarely as effective as educating ourselves about healthier food choices and opting for them over the foods that we know will do us no good. Vow to cut down on or eliminate processed foods or join the Veganuary bandwagon since a vegan diet is proven to be the best for fat loss.

Don’t: Say you’ll land your dream job

This is another staple of the resolution list. While it’s certainly noble, it’s often not a promise that we can keep to ourselves, leaving us frustrated and saddened. An increasingly competitive job market means that even if your dream does job float along, you may, through no fault of your own, not land it. Instead…

Do: Say you’ll be happier at work

You may not be able to control the job market, but you can control your enjoyment of your current job. However monotonous or frustrating your job may be, there’s always something you can do to enjoy it more. Starting the day with a positive attitude, rewarding yourself for your achievements (however small they may be) and focusing your attention on colleagues and aspects of your job that bring you joy are often a far more achievable goal than waiting for your dream job to come along.

I Can’t Lose Weight No Matter How Hard I Try. Stupid Tip of the Day:

By Tia Cristy

Stupid Tip of the Day: I Can’t Lose Weight No Matter How
Hard I Try.

Woman Stepping onto Scale

Losing weight can be one of the toughest things some individual’s will ever face. The number one thing in losing any amount of weight is being healthy about it. Trying to unload a massive amount of pounds overnight can have dangers. Yet, when dieting, those intending to lose a large amount of weight tend to notice the first few pounds come off quickly and then, the weight loss comes to a screeching halt. The reason for this is the metabolism is in shock of the body’s recent events.

A lot of times you’ll hear someone state that they gain weight after a certain age, having a baby, or they dieted and gained it back, …and then some. This is because the body’s natural chemistry has changed and changed the way the metabolism worked.

So, with that being said, I think it’s good to work out the metabolism first. With working out your metabolism first, it can shift gracefully with the new changes your body is about to endure.

The most important thing for the metabolism is proper sleep. ‘Proper’ doesn’t always mean 8 hours, but it does mean quality sleep. If you tend to sleep restless or wake up frequently, it affects everything including your digestion’s system of gathering and expelling what is needed, and not needed. It’s best to realize

Unmade Bed

sooner rather than later that all bodies are not built the same. It has been proven that women should try to get 1-2 hours more sleep than men. This is not always reality though, when it comes to maintaining the house and/or children something usually takes precedence. It’s my theory that this is one reason some women have a harder time losing pounds.

Getting the proper quality sleep sounds easier, than achieving to most people. But it doesn’t have to be that difficult. Adding the amino acid, Gaba, into your daily nighttime ritual can help with sleep, your metabolism, and brain—all at the same time. Taking Gaba as a natural sleep aid, along with Melatonin, can give you natural sleep without any grogginess or strange side effects.

Once the body’s sleep schedule is on track, the metabolism may need some extra help working properly. The way digestion works is simply complex. Simple, the body either uses the ingested, stores it for later, or disposes of it. When the metabolism isn’t working properly, it stores way too much, and that becomes fat. Taking to your doctor about adding a 400 mg. folic acid supplement into your morning routine can really boost the metabolism without sending it into some kind of dangerous overdrive.

When restarting the metabolism again, eating smaller portions more frequently is beneficial. Small portions are only hard in the beginning, but once you know you can eat every 2-3 hours, starvation isn’t an issue anymore.

These are just a couple of things to do without changing any diet or activity in your life. These natural treatments can make a huge impact on those trying to lose a few pounds to simply maintaining a healthy weight. I always suggest, keep your doctor in the loop of any herbs, diet, or exercise you plan on participating with.

Facing weight issues can impact individuals on many levels. Finding a positive outlet to absorb your progress is important in the process. Some individuals involved in weight loss are trying to reach unrealistic goals while being at a healthy weight or slightly over. These people tend to see a different picture.  Remember, not everyone is built the same.

A clinically obese man, John, has taken a healthy start and made a web diary (http://ourpersonaljourney.wordpress.com/) of his struggles and process. John’s story is interesting because he never saw his weight or would let it slow him down in his mind. This journal helps him see his downfalls and accomplishments. Bravely, he’s out there sharing it with others. Sharing with others is not for everyone. But doing something like taking a weekly photo or writing a diary on the positives of your progress will make you face the facts and truths. As we’ve come to learn, mirrors and minds can lie.
