How to Prepare for Retirement

By Blogger Jenny H.

How to Prepare for Retirement

For many, a simple retirement is the ultimate goal: a white picket fence, children and grandchildren who visit occasionally, a garden that you can take pride in. But it always seems so far away. When it starts to creep closer, certain fears can start to take hold, and we forget to see it for the enjoyable experience it is. However, if we start to prepare for it mentally and financially, retirement can be the ultimate reward for years of hard work and perseverance.

Financial implications

Although we would all like to think of ourselves as being happy and healthy well into our golden years, this may sadly not always be the case. Levels of care will vary from person to person, so it is important you know yourself, your strengths and weaknesses, and what exactly it is you need help with.

Although the idea of having constant room for family is wonderful, a large home can become difficult to manage in later years and could limit some autonomy. It is important to consider buying a smaller home that you can more easily manage in order to keep the independence that is important to so many.

  • Mortgage repayments

Whether you need to remortgage a current property or create a new one, your age will be a factor for some companies. It would be wise to receive professional help from advisors to ensure you are getting the best possible deal for you.

Mentally preparing

Pottering around in the garden can be wonderful, though you are somewhat limited by the weather. While this is ideal as a summer activity, what you will do to pass the time during other seasons should be taken into consideration. For some, hobbies become their “new job”. This could be something as simple as collecting pennies, or as complex as buying old, decrepit cars, fixing them up, and selling them on. Whatever you choose to focus on, it is important that you find it enjoyable and that there is no pressure.

Enjoy yourself

The most important thing to remember is that you have worked hard for retirement and it is there for you to enjoy, so always make the most of it.

3 Tips for Creating A Sparkling Smile That Lasts A Lifetime

Maintaining a bright, healthy smile is an essential part of a beautiful appearance. While you know this to be true for your own teeth, the same is especially true for your child’s dental health. If you want your child to have that perfect smile that graces the covers of magazines, then growing and developing teeth requires extra attention to ensure excellent oral health as a teen and an adult. This includes consistent practice of the basics: brushing, flossing, and regular check-ups at the dentist.

In recent years, there has been quite a bit of media attention on the dangers of certain oral care products. The safety of fluoride has been questioned, and the potential harm caused by polyethylene plastic beads has also been covered in the news. For parents looking to protect their children’s teeth naturally, there are three top tips to follow.

Teach proper dental health habits

One of the best ways to help ensure proper, natural oral care is to teach your child dental health habits. Empowering children with the knowledge of how to naturally care for their teeth is a powerful way to maintain a healthy smile. When your children know the importance of keeping their teeth healthy, and when you encourage them to brush and floss without being asked, you will help them develop the oral health habits they need.

Buy all-natural toothpaste and mouthwash

If you are concerned about the ingredients used in conventional toothpaste and mouthwash, there are exceptional natural alternatives. Look for brands that specifically list the chemicals that are not used (e.g. fluoride), rather than choosing brands that simply add “all-natural” to the product label. Currently, there are no real regulations on the use of the term “all-natural,” so be sure that you carefully select your toothpaste and mouthwash brands.

Limit sugar intake

It is a well-known fact that sugar can promote the development of cavities. However, some of the tastiest treats for children are loaded with sugar. Monitor your child’s intake of sugar, and be sure to limit the amount of sweet treats that he or she consumes.

Natural dental health can be simple

With a little bit of advanced planning, education, and dedication, you can help your child have a healthy smile without the use of questionable chemicals. Taking the time to learn about potential dental hazards can help you make informed decisions when selecting dental health products for your child. No matter what brands you choose, prioritizing your child’s oral health now is the key to a healthy smile later on in life.

Dress to Impress for Any Date That’s Thrown Your Way

Dress to Impress for Any Date That’s Thrown Your Way

Let’s face it, we all dress to impress. When we go on a first date, we break out the little black dress that’s a tad too little, the expensive jewelry we’ve only worn once in our life, and the sexy black heels that give us painful blisters. We all know what to wear and how to impress our date when he takes us to dinner. But what if he decides to be adventurous and take you somewhere else for your date? Well here are some tips on how to dress to impress in uncharted waters.

Hiking Up Lover’s Lane

Hiking is a great date idea. It shows that you’re fit, healthy, and smart and lets you get to know each other more intimately. But how do you impress the guy with your fashion as well as your athleticism? You dress sporty, cute, and smart. You don’t want to go out there dressed like Ranger Rick, and you don’t want to be out in your sundress. Instead, opt for something waterproof, cool, and light. Break out the sweats – men dig women in yoga pants and running leggings. Wear something that hugs your curves yet makes you feel comfortable exercising and pair your outfit with either running shoes or cute hiking boots. As for hair and makeup, do your hair in a casually sexy ponytail or braid, and go for natural minimalistic make-up. Look like you didn’t try too hard to look that cute.

Shout Your Love from the Top of a Roller Coaster

Amusement parks are a great date idea because you always have something to do and it gets rid of those awkward silences. However, dressing for a theme park date is hard because your outfit must take you from the morning to the night, and through hot temperatures and wet water rides. This is also another date where a dress or skirt simply won’t cut it – unless you plan on flashing everyone on the ride. Your best bet is to go for a casual chic look. Shorts and a tank top, graphic tee, or airy top are perfect for most of the elements you will be going up against at the park. Wear stylish sneakers and avoid anything with any type of heel as you will be doing a lot of walking. Take inspiration from the park and dress to match the theme. When it comes to make-up, be sure to wear SPF moisturizer and a primer because you need your make-up to last all day. Make your eye make-up and mascara as water resistant as possible and wear a lipstick stain to make sure the look lasts all day, especially important on a water ride.

Striking in Love

Most people don’t go bowling anymore. However, it’s not because it’s not fun, but because bowling has turned into an activity geared towards couples. So, what do you wear to bowl a strike in his heart? The key is your top. Wear a nice shirt and bring a stylish jacket if it’s cold outside. You will get hot inside, so make sure you wear something fashionable underneath. It is probably best to wear long pants, because you will be bending down most of the night. But, the most important thing to wear is socks and shoes that are easy to take off. You don’t want those nasty germs on your bare feet, and you also don’t want your date to watch you struggle to take your shoes off. When it comes to jewelry, less is more. Do not wear any rings or bracelets because it will distract your bowling. Instead, wear a simple necklace. When it comes to make-up, you can wear what makes you comfortable but consider the fact that most bowling dates are at night during cosmic bowling hours, so don’t wear anything that will look weird under a black light.

How to Find Love Again in Later Life

How to Find Love Again in Later Life

classbook-for-falling-in-love05Love does not have to end when you enter your senior years, whether you have been widowed or have elected to stay single. Should you decide to join the dating scene again, here are a couple of tips to make a success out of it.

Change Your Mind Set

While it is true that you are supposed to be an older, wiser and more experienced person, there is nothing in the books to say that you can’t think and behave like a youthful individual. Prepare yourself mentally to embrace the idea of dating and perhaps finding another partner for your remaining years. This means discarding preconceived notions of what your ideal partner (man or woman) should be, to avoid biases during your first meeting. After all, this is just a date and not a wedding.

Prep Your Physical Appearance

However, first impressions do count a lot so it is important to make yourself look attractive, clean, and presentable. When was the last time you had a haircut, indulged in a facial or had your nails done? Give yourself a small makeover and let professionals do your hair and makeup for your first date. It can do wonders for your self-confidence, making it a bit easy to get in the saddle again.

Get a New Wardrobe

qtq80-3t5NRCTake a look at your closet and clear out the items that you do not use anymore. Buy new outfits that complement your personal style. Do not overkill the idea of a makeover by wearing leotards or skinny jeans with high cut boots. If this is not your style, do not do it. It is recommended not to stray too far from your usual trend.

Go Out

Now that you are ready to meet someone, it is time to go out and find a date. You can do this by going to parties, sign up for dance classes, attend wine-tasting tours or game nights with your friends. The key here is to make yourself visible on the social scene. And while you are at it, there is no need to put pressure on yourself to look for a potential date. Just enjoy what you are doing and make new friends.

Another way to meet people your age is through online dating. You do have to make a great profile and keep safety considerations in mind. However, online dating has experienced a substantial boost with 12% of 55-64 year olds using a dating site or app compared to the 6% figure that did so in 2013, according to Pew Research.

Make a Good Impression

qtq80-JBU6PgFinally, you are ready for your first date. This is your one chance to make a lasting impression, so be sure to do it right. Apart from a clean and attractive appearance, be sure to show up on time. Although you might be very nervous, try to relax and be as natural as possible. Find common things you enjoy to discuss and avoid stories of the past. There is plenty of time for that later. Think of a first date as opening a present. You are just taking off the ribbon and maybe unwrapping the paper. The present inside will be revealed in the same way that getting to know your date slowly, through several dates, will tell you whether or not you have found love.

How to Clean Your Home Without Causing Allergies!

Do you know what is in the cleaning products you are buying?

The EU and many other countries ban them, but in the United States, many of these toxic chemicals are still found in cleaning products such as bleach. These include sodium lauryl sulphate, formaldehyde and ammonia. If ingested these can poison and possibly kill someone. Even if sprayed or used on an item or surface, they can cause allergies; especially among children.

There are some top tips, however, on how to cut these dangerous substances out of your life, save some money and have a healthier, more natural home which is still clean. These tips even work for baby products, toys, and clothing. I have written an in-depth guide which explores the different chemicals, what they do to you, and how you can use lemon juice and white vinegar to create totally natural cleaning products for your home.
