Changes of seasons usually warrant changes of hair

Changes of seasons usually warrant changes of hair

As you know with each season the texture and maybe even color of your hair changes. Protecting your hair in the summer slightly differs from winter protection in several ways.

Unlike the summer when you must protect your strands from pool water and sweat, in the winter you must remember to keep hair hydrated from the drying heat of any indoors. Using a hair mask or using argan oil once a week can help restore moisture into those locks. Using a shampoo and conditioner that protects from UV rays is also important in both winter as well as summer.

Changing your hair color like the leaves

This season, I went from a summer blonde to an icy blonde with a touch of low lights thanks to previous Hollywood hair stylist, CJ Deaver Designs. Reds are a desired color for fall, but remember, reds are hard to get rid of and even harder to keep. But the most important thing to remember when coloring your hair is to not color on top of clean hair. The cold strips the moisture out of your hair. Washing your hair strips it of natural oils. And we all know, bleaching and coloring dries hair. So, it’s best to plan accordingly when you’re about to get colored. Dirty hair will give you the best color results.

CJ had no worries about lifting my blonde to its icy tone when I walked in with oily hair. When the lift was completed, she used a purple shampoo to bring out the rest. *Using a color safe shampoo is key for maintaining the salon results. CJ finished with a blowout and razor cut to get me moving into my winter season.

Even days after the fact, my hair has remained in great health. It’s important to remember great hair starts on what you put in the inside. So, maintain a healthy diet along with adding plenty of nuts and oils. B vitamins are also a major importance when it comes to fabulous hair, no matter what season it is. And just like your skin needs it, your hair needs water too. So, drink plenty of water and your hair (and body) will thank you for it!

7 Beauty Tips for Girls to Enhance Their Natural Beauty

To look and feel good, you have to pamper yourself and dedicate time to yourself, not only on the outside but also on the inside. A proper diet and small daily gestures can help us complete our beauty ritual to enhance our natural beauty and feel the change from within.

Here are 7 beauty tips for you that will help you enhance your natural beauty! It is worth noting that these little things do not take much time at all and following them religiously can take you a long way in staying beautiful without much effort. Let’s check them out!

1.

For skin to look pretty and healthy, it is imperative that you clean your face every night, even if you do not wear makeup. Once you have a clean skin, you can take advantage of it by hydrating your skin with essential oil. Put a few drops in the palm of your hand, rub them to warm it, smell it to give you that relaxing moment and apply it on your face doing a little massage.

2.

It is also essential to take care of ourselves from the inside to have a beautiful outside. For that reason, it is recommended to take infusions of horsetail, thyme, dandelion or rosemary, which are very good body purifiers. Taking them after meals will help us improve digestion, get rid of gas and make us feel satiated. The juices of fruits and vegetables are also very good to purify the blood, although it is essential that they are natural and not packaged since they will provide all the antioxidants, vitamins and minerals that we need. Lemon, celery, asparagus, apple, artichoke, and onion are excellent for detoxifying.

3.

Do not forget to exfoliate the skin, both the face and the body, once a week to activate blood circulation and eliminate dead cells. For the face, you can use a homemade exfoliator based on lemon, sugar, oil, and honey. For the body, you can use brown sugar and body oil, almond or honey. Massage the whole body and face with circular movements to relax the muscles. Likewise, facial massages are ideal for relaxing. You can undergo facial treatments at home with some oil or cream. Massage the entire face in all directions, rub the forehead from one side to the other, rub the neck from above to the clavicle with the thumbs, etc. Finally, you can apply rose water to refresh the face.

4.

To have beautiful skin, it is also crucial that we have a good diet. Do not forget that we are what we eat! This is why it is essential to drink a lot of water to have a well-hydrated skin and to consume fruits & vegetables that provide antioxidants and vitamins. Citrus fruits, nuts, bluefish and green leafy vegetables will help us retain our natural beauty.

5.

Indulging in any sports activity every day helps us feel better and fitter. Having a physically active life is also very important. Climbing more stairs, walking to places close by instead of taking a cab, walking the dog, etc. – everything counts! At the end of the day, you will feel more tired, and you will rest better. These daily physical activities also help in achieving glowing skin.

6.

You can take advantage of the bath time to relax. The ideal scenario is to light some aromatic candles, turn off the lights and use some aromatic bath salts to help you release the stress of the day. You can make homemade aromatic bath salts by mixing coarse salt, food coloring, essential oils and tea bags or dried flowers. Once everything is mixed, it is necessary to let it dry a few hours on a tray. After the bath, the pores of the skin are more open, so it is essential to hydrate the entire body very well with a body lotion. With regularity in this schedule, you will get a smoother and more luminous skin.

7.

The face mask is equally important. Make a mask for the face and the hair. For the face, make a clay-based mask to balance the oiliness and if your skin is on the drier side, make a nutritive one with fruits, honey, and yogurt. For the hair, use essential oils to nourish it and make it shine. You can apply heat to the hair so that the pores open up and the product penetrates better than usual.

Lastly, if you feel that your eyes are tired or puffy, you can use cotton disks soaked in green tea and let them rest on your eyes or directly use tea bags. To complete your ritual, do not forget to wear your favorite perfume! Smelling good makes us feel better and more beautiful. If you do not want to use a perfume, you can use a body cream that smells good.

Instead of Alcohol I can use lime juice? Responses from Tips

Responses from Tips

Hi M,

Thanks for reading and also thanks for the question. “Tia could you please tell me if instead of Alcohol I can use lime juice? –M” in regard to http://tipsfromtia.com/2012/11/26/how-to-remove-sticky-glue-from-labels-on-cloth.aspx

https://pixabay.com/en/background-bitter-breakfast-bright-1239267/

Lime juice probably isn’t the best way to go. I’ve never tried it, but lime juice itself has sticky properties. Not only that, it is very acidic and can bleach or weaken fabric over time. You could try a
white vinegar, it won’t change the color of the fabric.  Although remember, it’s acidic too and could weaken the fabric over time as well.

I would save the lime juice for a twist in a drink. But in case you didn’t know, lime is great for skin care. Lime fights bacteria and tightens pores. Don’t over use lime juice on your face. (maybe once a week, for sensitive skin) Remember, it’s like a mini acid peel at home.

How try dry out after the flood.

By, Tia Cristy

How try dry out after the flood.

So hurricanes can leave many in the mud and sand. I got to storms and their brutal effects up close. After Hurricane Sandy, I spent my day helping people clean up after the devastation. We were able to put many good tips to use.

Seeing soggy pictures and documents of great importance to these lovely people was heart-breaking. So I knew, I had to use my knowledge to help where I could. I took my time removing water logged photos from saturated albums full of wet sand and mud. I then showed the people how to dry them out using cornstarch. We discarded the albums themselves, but were able to save all the photos, documents and books that were of the highest significance to these people.

This process can work for most paper materials. Find a dry area to do this work. Get a cookie sheet and fill the bottom with pure cornstarch. Place the photo on top and shake some additional cornstarch on top of the photo or paper. Smooth it over with your hand gently. If the paper is very wet it will put a solid coating over the paper. Lightly knock off the excess and place flat on a surface lined with wax paper. You can do this repeatedly for all your pics and documents. Be sure to lay each thing separately, don’t stack.  Let alone for several hours. When photo is dry you will be able to rub your finger over the paper and the cornstarch will flake off. if it doesn’t come off easy it still needs drying time. If needed, add more cornstarch. Once fully dry, you can sweep off the powder with a soft paint brush. It takes a little patience for the complete process, but it’s worth doing to remove the moisture, so your important documents don’t wrinkle and curl as much as the would if they were simply air drying. Bonus tip, cornstarch kills many nasty bugs and organisms, which is great for sanitizing those flood filled documents.

As for books, paper back and hardback text books, drying them will take longer. First, lay them in a dry place; in direct sunlight is ideal. After they air dry for a day, they maybe ready for step 2.

Step 2, may sound excessive pending on the amount of books you want to dry out. Place the books in a plastic moving container, then add bags and bags of dry rice. It’s the same method as drying out electronics. Leave the books submerged in the rice for a day or two, (may need time longer depending on thickness and how saturated the books are) After the books have dried mostly then, sprinkle them with cornstarch. Again, this will kill yucky stuff that may still be on the pages.

To reuse the rice, place rice in the sun for the day and let air dry to remove the moisture that it soaked up. Use new bags of rice if you plan on drying out electronics so it is able to absorb as much moisture as possible. Electronic dry-outs can take a lot longer to get results. Have patience.

If you’ve been challenged by Sandy, Tips from Tia wishes you well. And, let us know if you need any other tips to help you get one step back to normal.

Maintain Your Natural Hair

Maintain Your Natural Hair

Our hair is our signature upon first impressions. Trying to bring our best everyday, it can be difficult to maintain hair through season changes, chemical changes, and growth changes. Extensions are a great resource to achieve that gorgeous head of hair you’re trying to accomplish without using chemicals. Perhaps you’re trying to grow your hair out.  Maybe wearing wigs is your preference instead of using chemicals to change your color. But whether you have short hair or longer locks it’s important to maintain your natural hair all year round.

Hair is not a one-size fits all, and amazingbeautyhair.com breaks it down into hair types and options along with several methods to help keep your natural hair healthy in a natural way.

Getting Ready for Summer Skin and Hair

Getting Ready for Summer Skin and Hair

As the season changes, so does our skin and hair. Preparing for any season takes a little TLC so your body doesn’t pay the price. Dry skin is common in the winter, but as we transcend from winter to spring, dry skin and hair tends to happen.

Signs that Your Skin and Hair Needs Moisture

Dry, peeling or breaking skin or hair is usually a good sign that you need to hydrate yourself. The best way to hydrate your skin and hair is by drinking plenty of water. Eight, eight ounces of water is needed per day. I’ve heard time and time again from people saying, ‘I can’t drink eight bottles of water per day’. Well, first off, most bottles of water are sixteen ounces, so you would only need to drink four if that was your only source. However, fruits and veggies hold a lot of water. Eating your daily servings help contribute to your daily needed water content.

Keep Clean and Balanced

When your skin is clean and hydrated, you will be able to maintain a healthier balance in skin tone. Oil or shiny spots on skin is also a sign that you need hydration. The body is genius. It knows how to try and hydrate on its own, unfortunately, it will only show up in certain areas like, the T-zone. If are part of the percentage of the population that has honest oily skin issues, check with your dermatologist for your best options. For the others, in most cases, when you try to dry out the area, it will only make the shiny areas worse. Instead, try hydrating.

Add Oils

Adding oils into your diet can help promote moisture and hydration. Nuts are a great source to maintain great health and hydration. Also, try cooking with olive oil, coconut oil or sunflower seed to nourish your body. You’ll find these benefits are helping you from the inside out. I personally like adding external oils into my daily regimen. Essential oils have plenty of healing properties. One of my favorite external oils that has multiple purposes is Argan oil. Use Argan oil on hair, skin or nails for hydration, balancing skin tone, calming inflammation, reducing wrinkles and preventing hair-breakage or skin breakouts while stimulating hair and nail growth. Greenesthetics.com offers a 100% Moroccan Argan oil as well as other cool products including their new Alightener Foam for teeth whitening while cleaning your mouth tray or an Invisalign retainer.

Exfoliate to Look Polished

Removing dead skin cells is an important part of maintaining skin health. Removing the build up can help reduce pores and remove fine lines. Also, exfoliating requires a light scrub, so you’re providing a light massage to the skin, which stimulates cells to regenerate. Exfoliate the skin on a weekly basis. Don’t just focus on your face. It’s important to scrub the whole body.

Get Versatile with Your Hair

By Tia Cristy

Get Versatile with Your Hair

We all go through periods where we get bored with our hair. Is your hair dull? Has you locks lost their life? Does it seem like a bun or ponytail is the only style you’re rocking on a daily basis? Don’t get me wrong, a messy bun or ponytail can be the right style for the right moment, but if it’s your go-to style, you might be in need of a change.

How Drastic are You Willing to Go?

Deciding how to change your look takes some effort. Hair changes are not permanent, but most changes take a bit of commitment. Are you debating about changing your color? If color change is a first for you, you might want to choose a subtle change. Add a few highlights or lowlights to change the whole appearance of your face. If you’re determine to go drastic, I recommend getting a professional. Colors and bleaches are chemicals, which means they have to be mixed correctly, timed perfectly and rinsed properly. It’s a special touch to obtain vibrant colors. If you want to go grey, purple, pink, blue, etc., bleaching the hair is usually a must. A professional can mix the right products to make that bleach safe for your scalp. Warning not all bleaches are safe on the scalp. Also, if you have a color tint mishap, a pro can fix it in the easiest and healthiest way.

Chop It?

Is it time to let go of length? Sometimes the hair needs several inches removed to regain health. Sometimes we get bored with the length. But what happens if we cut it off and wish we could glue it back on two hours later? Easy solution for that in today’s world is to buy yourself some hair. Hair extensions are more popular than ever, and more affordable for quality hair. Check out the many different styles and colors that are available out there nowadays. Some extensions are removable on a daily.  Amazing Beauty Hair has a gorgeous selection of colors and textures to choose from. There are two options to choose from. They can be applied to the head with glue or clips instead of being sewn and weaved into your hair giving you the best of both worlds with long and short hair. The extensions are shipped beautifully in a sturdy box with a comb to section the hair properly. However, if your hair is long, but thin, add extensions to give thickness. I think it’s best to invest in 100% human hair if you’re planning on using the extensions on a frequent basis. It’s worth the little extra for a longer lifespan.

Is that a Shine or Greasy?

Getting a great shine in your hair starts from the inside out. Eating a well-balanced diet helps maintain hair health. B vitamins are important to overall health but adding a Super-B complex can feed your hair properly—always check with your doctor before starting supplements. Treat your hair with a hair mask.

Mix 1 egg, a cup of mayonnaise and a few squirts of your daily conditioner. Run through your wet locks, and then pin it up for 20 minutes. To get better results, put on a shower cap to allow your own body heat to work its benefit. After 20 minutes, rinse thoroughly, and then proceed with your normal shampoo and conditioner routine. Dry naturally or with a blow-dryer. If you use a hair dryer, give your hair a cold shot to create more shine.

Hair with New Life

Trying new options with your hair can boost your mood and confidence. With minimal effort, changing our hair can change our pyridine.

5 Reasons to Book a Brazilian Blowout

5 Reasons to Book a Brazilian Blowout

You may have seen the results all over your social media feeds, Brazilian Blowouts are having a moment! The treatment is loved by women around the globe due to its transformative and, quite frankly, life-changing results.

According to Yahoo, the Brazilian Blowout is a liquid keratin formula that bonds to your hair and creates a protective layer around each strand, effectively diminishing frizz and sealing in the cuticle, thereby protecting your hair against any external damage.

It originated in Brazil and uses ingredients indigenous to the country including camu camu, annatto seed, and açai berry. The treatment leaves hair hydrated, less frizzy, and more resilient to heat styling as well as comes with an insanely glossy mirror-like shine.

In case you still aren’t sold, here are five reasons you need to book a Brazilian Blowout in Dubai or wherever you are located.

1. It’s customizable

For many people, a Brazilian Blowout is considered a hair straightening treatment. While allowing those with naturally curly hair to experience smooth, straight locks is undoubtedly the most common use of it; the treatment can be customized for you.

If you would rather keep your natural curls or waves intact while smoothing out your hair, the best hairstylist in Dubai can make that happen.

2. Requires no downtime

Compared to other smoothing procedures, there is no downtime whatsoever. Tuck your hair behind your ears, put your sunglasses on top of your head, wear a ponytail, swim, or exercise immediately after you walk out of the salon with no worries.

3. Perfect for all hair types

No matter what kind of hair you have, whether it is straight, curly, kinky, coarse, fine or damaged, a Brazilian Blowout can be tailored to work perfectly for you. The treatment is safe for any hair type and helps to improve shine as well as moisture levels.

Having one enables you to use less hair care products, decrease daily drying time by half, achieve salon quality hair, and air-dry hair and have it look natural and frizz-free.

If you are looking to grow your hair more quickly, a Brazilian Blowout can assist with this as the treatment reduces split ends meaning you won’t require trims as often.

4. Won’t affect your natural curl pattern

Your treatment should last anywhere from three to four months. But after this period, your natural curl pattern will return with no line of demarcation. Even if you don’t get your Brazilian Blowout touched up right away, there will be no noticeable line of separation between the previously treated hair and new growth unlike with other relaxing or straightening methods.

A Brazilian Blowout is a smoothing treatment that does not contain harsh chemicals such as formaldehyde, and it is a non-permanent treatment that won’t give you roots that must be retouched in a few months.

5. Done only by certified professionals

Overall, the process takes under two hours but depends on how much hair you have and how thick it is. In the salon, a certified Brazilian Blowout stylist will start by shampooing your hair three or four times to remove any product residue, and to create a base for the treatment to adhere.

At this point, working section by section, the Brazilian Blowout formula will be applied from root to tip, then blow-dried smooth. Next, a flat iron heated to 450 degrees will seal the formula in; then your stylist will again rinse your hair. This is then followed by a deep conditioning mask before your hair is once again blow-dried smooth.

Unlike other similar treatments, there aren’t any restrictions as to what you can and can’t do after a Brazilian Blowout. You can tie your hair up in a bun or clip it any way you want. You can sweat it out and shampoo, so you won’t have to skip your CrossFit class.

And since the treatment is already rinsed out while you are in the salon, you can wait for as long as you want to wash it. Just ensure you are using a sulfate- and chlorine-free formula to extend the pleasant appeal of a Brazilian Blowout.

7 Ways to Look and Feel Younger

7 Ways to Look and Feel Younger

In an ideal world, with the advancement of modern technology, one would hope by now, they might have stumbled upon the fountain of youth; however unless the cosmetic companies are keeping this an extremely well guarded secret we are left with a variety of nutritional and superficial remedies to help us keep looking and feeling younger.  In reality, the majority of potions we put on our skin tend to be superficial quick fixes that don’t provide sustainable benefits.  Indeed, prevention is often the best cure in terms of ensuring young looking skin; however this article isn’t just skin deep – it’s about feeling younger too – which entails having more energy and vitality to take life on.

Here are 7 tips to help you in your quest to look and feel younger:

  1. GET MORE SLEEP

Experts recommend we have between six and nine hours sleep each night.  If you’re a light sleeper then you might want to consider hypnotherapy or guided relaxation videos on YouTube to ensure you’re getting the deep sleep you require, where your brain frequency slows down sufficiently to fully replenish and repair you body.

It can take up to 6 weeks to feel the effects of getting a good night’s sleep, but once you do, you will see a reduction in the dark circles around your eyes and will feel a profound increase in your energy levels.  A good way to make sure you fall asleep on time is to slowly wind down your evening.  Try not to watch TV, or be on your phone or laptop, just before going to bed; many experts recommend reading from a book (not a backlit digital device) as a good way to wind down.

  1. NURTURE YOUR SKIN

We all know it’s important to moisturise and replenish our skin on a daily basis to keep it soft and looking young, but with so many anti-aging creams on the market containing the vitamin derivative retinol it’s important you discover which Retinol Cream is best for you and your skin as skin care is not a one-size-fits-all solution.  In addition, you might want to consider moisturising with a simple and organic product like aloe vera.  However, moisturisation isn’t the only aspect of skin care; it’s important you cleanse and tone too.  A further consideration, if you wear make-up, is that you remove the make up each night in order to avoid clogged pores.

  1. NOURISH YOUR SKIN FROM THE INSIDE OUT

We are often keen to reach for a magic cream to replenish our skin without realising that our skin is an external representation of our internal biology.  If you want younger looking more radiant skin (and hair) then ensure you’re eating plenty of Omega 3, 6 and 9 oils that will enrich your body with important nutrients to replenish skin and hair.

  1. DO SOME EXERCISE

Getting up and doing some cardiovascular exercise doesn’t mean you have to suddenly turn into a gym bunny; this could be as simple as starting your day off with a brisk walk.  Not only does exercise help keep you lean, and mentally sharp, it has been proven to boost your energy levels which will ensure you feel young as well as look younger.  If you don’t fancy going to your local gym, then head out for a walk or run with your music or get a group of friends together in order to motivate each other.

  1. DRINK PLENTY OF WATER

Very few of us drink enough water, on a daily basis, yet drinking water is absolutely vital for the function of all our organs… and in particular, staying hydrated really helps our skin, as dehydration often leads to tired looking dull skin.  In fact, did you know that one of the causes for dark circles around your eyes is due to dehydration – which is why they tend to be much more pronounced when hungover.

  1. GET A NEW HAIR STYLE

Getting a trendy haircut isn’t only great for your self-esteem and personal pride, it’s a fantastic way to look and feel younger.  It’s important to have an age appropriate haircut, as otherwise it’ll have the opposite effect – and, depending on your age, it could make you look like you’re the victim of a midlife crisis.  Keeping on top of your personal appearance is one of the most fundamental things you can do to look and feel younger.

  1. CHOOSE YOUR WARDROBE WISELY

In a similar vein to keeping your hairstyle current and on trend, it’s important to choose your wardrobe wisely – as the clothes you wear are a reflection of who you are on the inside; and remember like attracts like – if you wear fun, bold and vibrant clothes you’ll attract fun, bold and vibrant people.

5 Ways to Protect Your Hair from Damage While Wearing Clip-In Extensions

By Guest Blogger, Diana C.

5 Ways to Protect Your Hair from Damage While Wearing Clip-In Extensions

Clip in hair extensions are an inexpensive and convenient way to add dimension to your hair and to take your appearance to the next level. They’re so easy to insert, remove and style that it’s possible to unintentionally mishandle them and cause damage your own hair in the process.

Protect your hair from damage while wearing clip in hair extensions by doing a few simple things to keep your own hair safe from damage.

Here are just a few things you can do to protect your hair:

  1. Remove clip in extensions carefully

People prefer clip in hair extensions because they are easy to remove but take them out too quickly and you run the risk of taking some of your own hair out with them. Before removing your clip in hair extensions comb or brush your hair smooth and gently separate your hair from the extensions. Create sections in your hair to expose the place where the clip in hair extensions are attached to your hair and gently slide them out of place. Pulling or yanking clip in hair extensions out of your hair or handling them too roughly can cause your hair to break and if done routinely may lead to long term damage.

  1. Choose clip in hair extensions that are lighter in weight

When purchasing clip in hair extensions for regular use go for extensions that weigh less instead of more. Heavier clip in hair extensions have thicker individual strands of hair and are often preferred because they create a greater degree of volume when installed but they can also put stress on your own hair if they are worn daily or even several times per week especially if you have thin or fine hair. Lightweight clip in hair extensions that weigh 120 grams or less put less stress on your hair and can help save your hair from damage.

  1. Eliminate the heat

Frequent use of heat styling tools that are set on high temperatures on clip in hair extensions that are integrated into your hair can cause heat damage and breakage to occur to your own hair. Avoid potential heat related damage to your hair by blow drying, flat ironing or doing other styling with heat styling tools before attaching your clip in hair extensions.

  1. Give your hair a break

Wearing clip in hair extensions all day every day for weeks at a time may take a toll on the health of your own hair. Keep your hair in excellent shape by giving your hair a rest. Wear your hair in flattering braids, twists or upswept hair styles on days when you’re giving your clip in hair extensions a break.

  1. Avoid sleeping in your clip in hair extensions

If you fall asleep in your clip in hair extensions you run the risk of getting your extensions tangled during the night or pulling at them while sleeping. Removing your clip in extensions before going to bed at night is highly recommended but if you can’t secure them with a satin bonnet or scarf to keep them in place.
