Why You Should Use Local Goods and Services

Why You Should Use Local Goods and Services

It can be easy to buy and do everything through massive multinational corporations and not bother with small, local businesses. However, these same businesses need your support, and there are plenty of reasons to use them over their corporate competitors. Here are some reasons why you should use local goods and services.

Fewer Miles Travelled

If you care about the planet, being eco-friendly and reducing carbon emissions, then you should go local. Local good such as locally grown food has far fewer miles travelled. This means that it hasn’t been on a boat, plane, train, or truck to make its way to you. This also probably means that it is much fresher and has far fewer chemicals on it to keep it fresh. Locally produced goods are also the work of much smaller teams who love what they do, rather than a faceless corporation. There might be a slight premium on these kinds of products, but they are often of a higher quality and are made with a lot more attention and care. Often locally made goods are made by hand rather than being mass produced in a factory. This also means that they are more unique. If you care about any of those things, then you should buy locally made goods.

They Know The Area

The benefit of buying locally is that the people you are getting a good or service from know the area. If you are hiring movers, then you want to look up local moving services in the area. They will know the best way to transport your things to or from your home, won’t get lost and if you are moving into an area, they will be able to tell you about it. The same is true for other kinds of good or service. Due to the fact that these people live and work locally, they know the area well and can provide advice or tips based on this. On the other hand, larger companies do not know about specific areas and won’t be able to give you that same level of care and attention. For example, if you are buying a car from a local dealership they will be able to tell you how this car will perform on local roads and streets. This might mean that certain cars are better or worse for you depending on where you live. You might need a 4×4 over a city car, and the will be able to advise you on this. A large company can give you the benefits of each, but not in the context of where you will use it.

Build A Relationship

This is one of the best reasons to buy locally. You get to build a relationship with the people you are buying from. For example, if you regularly go into a local grocery store then you will get to know the staff and owner of the store and get to know them. This adds a personal touch to each visit, and it can be a way for you to make friends in a new area and get to know where you are living. If you are buying your groceries from a large company that you won’t get this as they have too many employees and won’t be able to treat you the same way.

Becoming Healthy The Organic Way

Becoming Healthy The Organic Way

With all of the expensive fad diets in the world these days, you will be thankful to know that there is a way of keeping yourself healthy using organic methods. Switching to all organic foods and methods is becoming increasingly popular because of the awareness of animal and human cruelty being largely spread. We have also realised that nasty additives aren’t good for our bodies. Eating organic foods will not only improve your health no end, but it will also help take steps towards ensuring that animal cruelty ends. Here are some ways that you can become fully organic.

For something to be organic, it has to be derived in the most natural way, without the use of chemicals, pesticides or additives. This means that ingredients like vegetables, cops and fruit must not have anything added to them to make them grow bigger and better. Growing your own vegetables and fruit means that you can rest assured that no horrible chemicals have been added to your food. If you have children, growing your own produce is a brilliant way of getting them on board and keeping them excited about eating organically. You may need to invest in a greenhouse for your garden for certain fruit and vegetables, but it will pay for itself in time.

Having meat that is organic is a must too. It must have been able to wander about and not be kept in a cage. Animals that are kept in cages are often bred for the sake of killing and then the sale of their meat. Having livestock that has been organically raised will often taste better too, because it will have had the chance to graze on natural sources and had plenty of sunlight. If you have the space, (and the time) you could think about getting a chicken coop. Letting them run free around your backyard and feeding them only fresh and natural seeds is another way that you could become organic. That is, if you can handle humanely killing and plucking one, of course.

Ensuring that things that you have to buy in are organically sourced is important too, so be sure to check all of the labels on your products. Drinks, for example, are something that you should keep an eye out for. Consider buying skinny tea for your morning drinks because you can rest assured that it was fairly sourced, and it’s great for your health too. Only buying organic cleaning products from the store too will benefit your health because you won’t be using any harsh chemicals that can damage your skin and lungs from inhalation. Organic products often smell nicer too.

Although buying organically can often prove to be more expensive, isn’t it worth spending that extra money for the sake of yours and your family’s health? If you are choosing to go organic, why not go green too and help save our wonderful earth?

We should all aim on making the world a better place to live.

Use Green Carpet Cleaning Methods

But if you hire a cleaning company, they could use all kinds of chemicals to get your carpets clean. However, you can find services that use green methods, so you don’t have to worry so much. There are lots of natural ingredients, from lemon juice to vinegar, that can make very useful cleaning products.

Maintenance to Save Energy and Water

Doing the right maintenance tasks in your home can help you lead a greener lifestyle by saving energy and water. Saving The Planet One House At A Time

Saving The Planet One House At A Time

Green living is becoming more and more popular, as it can help the planet, and save you money at the same time. Sometimes it might seem like anything you do isn’t going to make a difference anyway, because everybody else is still living an irresponsible lifestyle. That’s not the attitude to have, every small change makes a difference. There are plenty of things that you can do around your own home to reduce energy wastage and save a bit of extra cash. If you want to make your home more environmentally friendly, here are a few tips.

Insulation

One of the main reasons that we use so much energy to warm our homes is because they are losing massive amounts of heat all of the time. There are some quick fixes to this problem, like putting draught excluders under all of the doors. If this doesn’t quite cut it, then you might need to look at the insulation in your house. Calling in a roofer to properly insulate your house could save you thousands in energy bills over the coming years. Having the walls insulated might be a bit more troublesome, but if you have the time and the money, it is worth having done.

Solar Panels

Getting solar panels might seem like an expensive outlay, but a lot of companies offer a payback service that could extend as far as ten years. You will be making your own energy from day one, making your energy bills almost nothing. In fact, you can actually make money by selling any surplus energy that you create during the summer months. All of this extra money can be used to pay off the cost of installing the solar panels in the first place, and your house will be run on entirely clean energy.

Update Heating

Even if you make an effort to insulate the house, and add some solar panels to the roof, an outdated heating system will keep your bills high. It is a big initial expense, but replacing the boiler with a newer, more efficient one, will save you lots of money. It also reduces the risk of dangerous gases like Carbon Monoxide being released and harming you and your family.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

We’ve all heard this one before, but most people think that it’s just about the rubbish you produce. Almost everybody recycles the rubbish that they can, but there is so many other ways that you can reuse things around the home. Instead of throwing things away, see if there is anything that you can use them for first. Old clothes can easily be turned into toys for your pets if you have any, and old tin cans can be made into flowerpots, for example.

There are plenty of companies out there that are selling furniture made from reclaimed wood, so if you don’t fancy making your own, you can still help the planet by buying them. Another good place to get furniture is from second-hand shops, it might need a bit of restoring but this is a fun project that will give you some lovely furniture for a fraction of the price of buying new.
