Clean Your Way To Spring Freshness

Clean Your Way To Spring Freshness

Ah, it felt like the sun would never return, but here we are at last – spring has finally sprung! It’s time to store away our winter wardrobe and begin looking forward to those long days and nights of being outside in the great outdoors, BBQs with friends and family, and afternoons in the hammock with a book. But hold right there, mister or missus, because there’s pretty big task that needs to be taken care of before you get to enjoy the bright and energising gifts of spring. That’s right, you need to make sure your home is fit for purpose! So dig out the rubber gloves, because it’s going to be a busy (but worthwhile!) couple of days….

Throw Away The Junk

A spring clean begins with throwing away all the junk you have stockpiled in your home that you really don’t need. Remember: spring should be light and airy, you should have a spring in your step, and it’s difficult to feel like that if you have clutter all around you. Make it your first task to take a trip to your nearest charity shop with all the items you no longer need. It’ll make cleaning the rest of your house all the easier. If you do have to keep your things, look at smart home storage options to keep them in order.

Deep Clean

Yes, you should have known this tip was coming. When we say deep clean, we mean deep clean; that is, getting on your hands and knees and scrubbing those areas that haven’t been scrubbed in some time. You only do this once a year, so pull back all the furniture and electrical appliances and give the spaces beneath them a clean that would make you comfortable with eating food off the surface!

The Gritty Details

While the main cleaning will take place on the infrastructure of your home (like floors and windowsills), you should also take this opportunity to give your everyday items a good clean. Your fridge, for example, has been in pretty high demand over the winter, what with Thanksgiving and Christmas. There’s been no time or space to give it a clean, but you have no excuse now. Also, when you’ve hoover’ing make sure you do so behind the cushions on your sofa: they’re ripe for dust and dirt and will give them a freshening up.

Window Space

The sun brings a lot of good things, including our daily dose of vitamin d. But it also shines a light, literally, on the dirt and grime of our windows, so now that spring has arrived you’ll want give each and every window a thorough clean. This’ll take the best part of a full afternoon, and remember there’s an art to cleaning windows. But it’ll all be worth it when you’re able to look out and see the flowers and birds and other delights of the season.

The Front

Your home will never look as good as it does on a sunny spring afternoon. But oh gosh, the front is a bit dirty, isn’t it?! That’s why you’ll want to make sure you big up all the trash that is accumulated in the front yard over winter and make sure there’s no blemishes on your patio. A power washer can get rid of patio grime; indeed, this Karcher K2 Full Control review emphasizes its effectiveness at cleaning dirty patios, so you’ll be able to have your whole house looking spotless this season. While it’s not quite your home, the power washer can also clean your car – you don’t want a dirty car to ruin the image of your home when it’s avoidable!

In the Garden

Hopefully, if the weather plays ball, we’ll all be sitting outside often over the next few months. That’s why it’s important that you get into the garden and give it a thorough tidying up. Throughout winter our gardens can take something of a battering, so take the time to clear away all the winter debris that will have fallen from its trees and bushes. Your grass will also be in a bad way, so make sure you’re making the changes needed to make sure it looks great when it comes to summer.

Changing the Theme

Back to inside your house, you should be looking at matching your home’s décor thematically with spring. Winter is a time for deep, dark colors that invoke coziness. Spring is about bright colors that bring the splendid outdoors to your home. If you have some spare cash lying around, then invest in curtains that are lightly colored, like yellow, and replace your winter curtains with them. The same can also be said for your bedding. You no longer need a heavy duvet (or won’t soon, anyway), so instead opt for a light and colorful sheet.

The Bigger Jobs

With the sun shining on your house, you’ll begin to notice some of the bigger jobs that were hidden during the dark winter months. If you’ve had a lot of wet, snowy weather over the past few months, your painted outdoor areas might have begun to peel away, while your gutters might also be in a bad shape. Before the fun of spring and summer really begins, take care of these larger jobs once and for all. There are few DIY jobs more pleasant than spending a fresh and sunny day painting a fence, if you ask us….

Stay on Top of It

With a bit of luck and plenty of hard work, the transformation of your home from winter den to spring palace will only take a few days. However, that doesn’t mean you get to sit back and enjoy the rest of the warm weather (though there’ll be plenty of opportunities for that!). No, it’s important that you take the time to stay on top of your home and make sure it looks as good on the last day of summer as it did on the first day of spring. It’s much easier to do small tasks once a week than all the big tasks once a year, after all!

Things Need to Change…

Things Need to Change…

Your home and the space that you live in can have a massive impact on your mood. It could be that you feel sluggish and unmotivated when you walk through the door, or that you go into a total state of relaxation and don’t want to do anything for fear of being snapped out of it. There are certain jobs that you can do around the home to make you feel a bit more fresh, get you moving and have a long impact. Things that you won’t need to do again for a while, but make all the difference when they’re done.

Clean your blinds and curtains

Most people don’t realise that both curtains and blinds can get as dirty as anything else – after all, they are hung up in your home absorbing everything in the air that they possible can. Especially in kitchens, you may find that any upholstery has a greasy sheen to it, or is a bit sticky/stiff to the touch due to the fumes that are emitted when cooking. Give them a bit of love and treat them to a wash. Roller blinds can be hard to manage to get clean, but a simple wipe-over should suffice. Other blinds such as vertical blinds can be taken off and washed individually – a long and laborious task but one that will be worth the effort made when you see what a difference it makes to your room.

Change your bed, change your mattress

A lot of people know that changing your bedsheets will lift your mood and give you something to look forward to upon your return, but few people know that your mattress is recommended by professionals to be changed at least one every eight years. It’s not an everlasting investment; mattresses change over time just as your body does, and they may not be changing at the same rate or in sync with one another. What started out as the best and most comfortable home for your body to sleep on can eventually turn out to be causing damage and discomfort, as much as you may think that it’s comfortable still to sleep on. Read reviews on the best one to get for both your needs and your budget at sites such as https://www.mattress-guides.net/top-mattress-back-stomach-side-sleep-position/ – it’s best to see the pros and cons of each product before making your decision.

Go around the skirting of your home

You may not notice what places are getting especially dusty around your home until you’ve actually dusted them and noticed how the room has lifted. Go around the skirting boards and the doorframes of your home – any ledges which may be sticking out are in need of a wipe-down to get them back to how they’re meant to be. It’s strange how much it can do to lift your mood, but living and working in a clear and clean space can create this feeling.

Wipe on top of your cupboards and wipe them out

Much the same as skirting boards, cupboards are often forgotten and neglected as something that will need a good clean more than once a year. In your kitchen, just as your blinds will have done, cupboards can get grease sticking to them quite easily – but again, just like blinds, it will only need a simple wipe-down if it’s not that bad. The tops of cupboards are often forgotten, but they will need a clean too! There is so much dirt and dust that can gather on top of them, and once it’s all done you at least know that you don’t have to make such an effort for quite a long time. The sense of achievement out of doing such a mundane task is something that can be focused on for quite a while afterwards.

Go through your drawers and get out clothes

Take out all the clothes that you haven’t ever worn, have no intention of wearing again or that don’t fit you. Hold on to the stuff that you are sentimentally attached to and put to one side – everything else, put into a bag for charity, give away to friends or list for sale. Not only will it give you the space to go out and buy things that you will want and love, but it will clear out so much unnecessary stuff in your life that could be otherwise holding you back; if you clear out a space in your drawers or wardrobe, you are clearing out a space in your mind.

Rearrange your wardrobe to make everything fit

After arranging all of your clothes and chucking out those pieces that don’t warrant being in there anymore, rearrange your wardrobe to fit in everything neatly and try and couple up outfits together that you know will work. Organise sections for daytime, evening and office wear; what may take you a bit of time to accomplish now will save you tons of time in the future.

Declutter your life

The last step towards shaking off that sluggish feeling! It’s one thing to declutter your wardrobe, but a whole different level to try and declutter your house. Getting rid of everything that is unnecessary and brings you no joy is a hard thing to do, as we make up theories of when something made us happy and try to cling onto it for as long as possible – it’s part of our human nature. However, there are some things that you will put to one side and throw away and you will never even notice that they have gone – you may have a faint memory of them in the future when you look back on old photos, but the impact that they are making when they are there is probably non-existent. This can include everything from books that have been read once and are shelved just for show, to ornaments that hold no worth or meaning to you. Decide what needs to go and make the change for the good of yourself and your health.

Trigger Spring with Clean. Tips on Triggers:

You’ve heard the term “Spring Cleaning”, well that is because it’s a great way to trigger the feeling of Spring. Deep cleaning your place is good to do twice a year, but most importantly around Spring time, to remove the dust and dirt that has piled up over the winter.

Open the blinds, wash the curtains and let that sun shine in even if it’s still a bit chilly out there. Wiping your place from top to bottom will make that stagnate air, fresh.

Don’t forget to clean the ceiling fans, you’ll be using them soon enough when the heat finally kicks in. It is so unsettling, when you turn on the fan and dust bunnies fly across the room. The easiest way to clean your ceiling fan is to take the dirty sock pile, put your hand in a sock, apply the dust cleaner and use your hand to wipe the blade. Pull off your hand inside out if the dust is really thick and get another sock for the other blades. When done, shake the socks out over the trash can while turning them right side in, and throw them in the wash. And wash your hands, of course.

Using steam to clean fabrics that are unable to go into the washer is a great wash to disinfect and deep clean.

Adding Spring colors as accent colors to a room will give a Spring time feel and lighting floral scented candles or getting air fresheners will give you the sense that Spring is in full bloom.
