How To Go From 0 To Employed, Quickly

Being out of work can be a pretty stressful experience. You’re struggling to contribute to your family finances, you’re feeling the strain, and you’re also just bored of sitting at home and applying for the same roles everyday. No matter what you do, it can sometimes feel like you’re just going around in circles, which can really make you lose hope about securing yourself a job in the future.

However, there are some ways to increase your chances of finding that perfect role, and we’ve noted them down here!

Perfect your resume

Your resume is the first thing that an employer will see, and if it’s not looking good, then you can expect to be thrown in with the rest of the ‘no’ applicants. There are some simple rules here: put the most recent (and most important) roles and skills at the top, in order to make an impact straight away. Tailor your resume to each job that you’re applying for, too, and you should see more success.

Work on your confidence

OK, so not everybody can stroll into an interview without an inch of nerves within them, and completely knock it out of the park. It’s natural to have nerves, and if your potential employer is a decent human being, then they will totally understand this. However, working on your confidence will really help you to say what you actually want to say, and to sell yourself well, so try to get psyched up.

Be picky

If you’re out of work, you may be frantically applying for every job that you find out there on the web. Whilst this is understandable, it’s rarely the road that takes you to success. Instead, be picky about what you’re applying for, and really work on getting the application right for each one. Although it does narrow down your potential jobs, it means that you are more likely to actually get one.

Make yourself an ideal candidate

When an employer looks through your resume, they will be looking for certain things. A willingness to learn and adapt, perhaps, or even the flexibility needed to arrive on time. Maybe they want to see that you have a vehicle and a full license. Check out some used Subaru cars if you’re thinking about making yourself a more ideal, flexible candidate, and it could increase your chances.

Follow up

Whilst it can seem like a strange – and mildly annoying – thing to do, following up on your applications may be a good idea. Call up the people responsible for recruitment where you’ve applied, and ask them when you will hear back. This puts your name in their minds, and shows that you’re eager to get the job. If you get rejected, call up and ask questions about how to improve. Be persistent!

So, if you want to secure yourself a job ASAP, then keep these things in mind. With a bit of hard work and persistence, and the right resume, you could find yourself bossing that interview a lot sooner than you thought!
