Small Additions To Your Diet With HUGE Impacts

What is the foundation of a human being? Is it their hopes and dreams? Their feelings? Is it who they define themselves to be? Scientists say that it’s mainly water, actually. We’re all over seventy percent of H20, so we’re mostly water – that’s our foundation.

You could go one step further though. Food is our foundation. Easily. We say things like ‘breakfast is the most important part of the day’ – so how could it not be? Food sets us up for the day; it is something to look forward to. We can’t function without our diet.

However, we don’t all eat healthily. Bad foods are in abundance, and they are cheap. The temptation is always there as well, to eat something bad to feel good. With that being said, what are some effortless things that we can add to our diet to ensure that we’re getting the most from it, without going out of our way?

Chia Seeds

The Aztecs found an all powerful plant in the Salvia Hispanica, and its seeds (chia). These little pills of power have a large amount of benefits when consumed! The best thing about them is how tiny they are, meaning you can sprinkle them on all sorts of meals – from breakfast to dessert. The chia seed punches above its weight in terms of almost everything. They are rich in fiber; they are full of protein and abundant with omega-3 fatty acids. A few spoonfuls of chia with your meals can seriously help with your nutrition. This food is a real heavyweight despite it’s small size.

Mentioned at the start of the article was the fact that humans are mostly made up of water. If that is the case, why wouldn’t you include water with your food? Why wouldn’t you want to drink as much as possible (and as is safe)? Water is relatively easy to come by, and downing a cup before a meal can help your feelings of fullness last for longer. Water is necessary, and you should be trying to drink around eight cups or 2 litres a day, and more if necessary. If you move around a lot or if it is a hot day, you need to be drinking a lot more water than you usually would.  You need to get hydrated by water. Tea, coffee and fruit juices won’t work – so you need to ensure the majority of your drinking revolves around water, otherwise you will be dehydrated.

No – you can’t go out into the garden and pick some leaves to put on your plate. However, if you can move away from the majority of your meals being based around meats and carbs, you can reap the digestive benefits of fiber. We can get a lot of fiber from plant-based foods. Kale, cabbage, cilantro – all sorts of greenery can be added to our meals to enhance the nutrition that we get from our meals. If we can move meat and other foods to the sideline – we can live a much healthier life. However, if we take a few minutes to add a bit of spinach and kale to our meals, we can boost our fiber intake and add some health to our meals, it takes no time at all.

Healthy fats

We’ve been almost indoctrinated into the belief that fat is no good for us. The word alone comes with so much negative thought and connotations. However, fat isn’t bad. It really does depend on the type of fat that you consume. Good fats are the unsaturated fats that don’t outstay their welcome. Bad fats are the saturated fats – the trans fats that stick and glue to our bodies and our arteries. Saturated fats are found in natural products – like coconut oil and vegetable oil as well as meat, so be careful. Unsaturated fats are located in avocados, nuts, seeds and peanut butter. Drop the saturates and bring on the unsaturated fats.
